Tennis is a sport that I’ve never truly liked, but I will watch it when people like Maria Sharapova is on or there’s nothing else on TV. Maria, however, makes me wanna watch it every time it comes on. Everybody knows that tennis hotties wear skimpy shorts, but these pictures show off the benefits of those shorts. Namely some good shots of butts! Given that Maria is already hot to begin with, getting to view her butt is just icing on the cake. Even in non-revealing clothing, Maria is a hottie! I’m definitely going to start tuning in more often with a DVR to get views of Maria Sharapova like in these pics!

Sophie Monk was out wearing normal clothes and walking her dog, and the singer and actress looks pretty damn good in street clothes. There’s nothing like seeing a celebrity acting like a normal person to make you realize that they’re just like us. But hotter. And richer. Really, they’re just all around better than you and me. Now I’ve just depressed myself, and all because of Sophie and her hotness. That’s okay. I’ll be fine. Maybe Sophie Monk will see this and decide to come comfort me. I like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and nudity…

Ashlee Simpson showed up at the Axe Instinct event at the Hard Rock the other day looking like she just escaped from Pete Wentz’s basement. Even the chain around her neck is still there. | Angelina Brad endorse ban on Zimbabwean blood diamonds | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
In 2006, the Marange diamond fields were discovered in Zimbabwe. When Zimbabweans heard that there was a new mine, many rushed out to see if they could find diamonds close to surface of the mine walls. Unfortunately for them, 2006 was also one of the worst years in Zimbabwe?s fragile political system. Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe?s president and brutal despot, was years into his reign of political, financial, military and humanitarian reign of terror. Mugabe cracked down on the illegal miners, and ordered the military to guard the mine, which is rumored to have more than $200 million worth of diamonds, just waiting to be mined. Military control over the mine has been bloody - Human Rights Watch claim that more than 200 people have been killed in or around the mine. HRW also compiled a report called ?Diamonds in the Rough? which describes (through witness interviews) the human rights abuses occurring by the military to those who work in or around the mine.
Most likely in the hopes of bringing more attention, more headline, and more financial support to this issue in particular and human rights abuses in general, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are issuing a statement through their foundation and through HRW. According to HRW?s executive director, ?Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have issued a call for a ban on any sale or purchase of Marange diamonds … until … the mining is not based on the violent abuse of residents in that region.? Here?s more:
Human Rights Watch said Friday that Zimbabwe’s armed forces have taken over diamond fields in the east and killed more than 200 people, forcing children to search for the precious gems and beating villagers who get in the way.
The New York-based organization said its call for a ban on diamonds from the region had received an endorsement from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. A statement from the couple’s foundation was expected later Friday.
“Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have issued a call for a ban on any sale or purchase of Marange diamonds … until … the mining is not based on the violent abuse of residents in that region,” said Kenneth Roth, Human Rights Watch’s executive director.
Zimbabwe’s deputy mining minister, Murisi Zwizwai, has denied the allegations and said the presence of the military is to secure the area.
More than 100 witnesses, miners, police officers, soldiers and children were interviewed for the report entitled “Diamonds in the Rough,” which details allegations of human rights abuses by Zimbabwean armed forces in an attempt to control access to the precious gems.
The human rights group said searchers had gathered evidence of mass graves and accounts of an incident last year when military helicopters fired at miners, while armed soldiers on the ground chased villagers from the area.
“There are hundreds of victims of human rights abuses that are unwilling to come forward for fear of the military,” Zimbabwe researcher Dewa Mavhinga said.
The report also alleges that some of the income from the diamond fields is going to officials of President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party, long accused of trampling on human rights and democracy in the southern African country.
The international human rights watchdog is calling on Zimbabwe’s coalition government, formed in February, to stop the abuses and prosecute those responsible. It is also calling on the international body that governs the global diamond industry to press Zimbabwe, a participant, to end the illegal trade in Marange diamonds.
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, established in 2002, aims to stem the flow of “blood diamonds” being used to fund fighting across Africa. Participants are forced to certify the origins of the diamonds being traded. This assures consumers that by purchasing diamonds they are not financing war and human rights abuses.
Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, said the group is calling for the definition of blood diamonds to be broadened to include gems mined through “repression and violent abuses” by governments.
[From The Associated Press]
Obviously, these abuses are wrong and they should be stopped. But I tend to think speaking out about only the human rights abuses in this one mine is tragically narrow-minded. Zimbabwe is totally and completely f-cked, and it?s going to take a lot more than a blood diamond ban to improve the quality of Zimbabweans? lives. However, I do understand that HRW is trying to move the human rights-goalpost forward by choosing this issue, and they?re right. The definition of ?blood diamonds? should be broadened.
As for why in the world Angelina and Brad are going to issue a statement - well, every major media outlet is covering this story as ?Angelina and Brad want blood diamond ban?. How many of them would have carried this story if it was just HRW calling for a ban?

Still reeling over the death of the King of Pop? Thinking that there won’t be anyone like him in the next century? Well worry no more because Kim Kardashian is in the studio right now recording tracks for an R&B album. Michael’s successor has arrived. And she’s a chick.
But what will her music sound like, you ask. Think Lady GaGa, Britney Spears and J.Lo with a bit of R&B all mixed together. In short, a clusterfuck of suck. Expect nothing short of synthesizers, auto-tune and backup singers distracting you from her voice. To find out what Kim sounds like without post-processing, simply run your fingernails across a chalkboard. [C&D, Awkward Silence]

| In Touch: Kate Hudson is a succubus who destroys men's souls | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
In Touch Weekly has a hilarious story abut Kate Hudson this week. This classic of tabloid journalism is called ?Kate?s a Curse For Men?. In Touch runs down her past relationships with Lance Armstrong, Owen Wilson and Chris Robinson, as well as her current relationship with Alex Rodriguez. The point? Kate exhausts whichever guy she?s dating, and she basically destroys their souls. Plus, whenever she and a guy break up or maybe just get together, something really horrible happens. Oh my God, she?s a witch! Burn her, In Touch Weekly!
Some of the little photo pull-outs are funny - they?ve got some of the worst pictures of all of these men, with little snippets saying: ?Alex Is Exhausted: ?He?s burning the candle at both ends,? says A-Rod?s friend. ?He seems sluggish and tired? since dating Kate.? And don?t forget this: ?Owen Was Devasted: Owen Wilson reportedly slashed his wrists during a suicide attempt following their split.? The moral of this story is that Kate is a succubus, I think.
Kate Hudson and Alex Rodriguez stayed out until 2:30 on June 20, and then the next night they hit Blade Lounge.
?The chemistry between them was obvious,? a Blade Lounge club goes tells In Touch. ?They looked amazing together?
But club-hopping probably wasn?t the greatest idea for the New York Yankees? third baseman, whose doctor pulled him from a game two days before because of ?fatigue? - even though he reserved 100 tickets for his family - according to the team?s general manager, Brian Cashman.
A buddy of A-Rod?s says: ?He?s in the middle of baseball season, yet he?s trying to wine and dine Kate? the two don?t go together very well.?
According to a friend, Kate is known for commanding a man?s attention and getting him to bend to her whims - even it it?s not in his best interest. ?Guys become addicted to her,? says the friend. But trouble follows after men date Kate.
In August 2007, Owen Wilson attempted suicide after their split. Two months after breaking up with Kate, cyclist Lance Armstrong was questioned about using performance-enhancing drugs (he tested clean). Kate?s ex-husband, rocker Chris Robinson broke up with his band and broke his hand after falling in love with her.
?I had never felt anything like that,? Chris admitted. ?It kind of took me over.? Since their 2006 separation, the band is back together.
Can Alex escape another Kate-caused controversy? His friend claims that Yankees management have already warned him not to let his latest romance become a distraction.
[From In Touch Weekly, print edition, July 6 2009]
I don?t really hate Kate - actually, I find her mildly amusing. While I don?t really find her acting career all that interesting, I like that she doesn?t seem to follow the typical ?I?m going to sit around and be a victim and get sympathy? route that so many female celebrities do. Kate?s been dumped several times, and she?s done the dumping several times. She always moves on and she never feels sorry for herself, which I really admire. As far as the whole ?sucking the life out of a man?s soul? thing? well, most of those guys totally deserve it. Except for Owen. I really do think she messed him up big time, but it?s not all her fault. She?s not really a witch after all.

Olivia Munn has definitely been getting some good time in the spotlight thanks to her recent Playboy feature. It’s a good thing then that Olivia is a major hottie because I wouldn’t want to be staring at a vast number of pictures of someone that isn’t hot. I could just go to the mall or Kroger or somewhere and see that crap. Maybe now Olivia will get popular enough to do something sexy or topless. You know, where I can see the goods. | Did Brad Pitt convince his Republican brother not to run for Congress? | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Brad Pitt?s younger brother Doug is often the spokesperson for the Pitt family, so it?s a given that Doug knows a lot about being diplomatic, dealing with the press, and knowing when to keep his mouth shut. Coincidentally, those are great qualities for a politician. When the Missouri state Republican Party was thinking and talking about who should run in Missouri?s seventh congressional district. That seat is currently being held by Rep. Roy Blunt, who is the front-runner for the Republican nomination for the 2010 Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Kit Bond. So the state party is looking for someone young, good-looking, family-oriented, with great name-recognition for the congressional seat. Guess who they wanted? None other than Doug Pitt! Doug is a successful local Springfield businessman and philanthropist, and he apparently is quite the local Republican, unlike his brother Brad, who is quite the liberal Democrat. It?s sort of like a John Steinbeck novel.
Anyway, when Doug?s name came up, Brad apparently convinced his little brother not to run. This is according to the National Enquirer - they claim Brad has ?big plans? for the work he and Doug will be doing together, and they wouldn?t be able to do their work if Doug ran for Congress. Just in the last six months, Doug and Brad (and Angelina Jolie, through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation) have given away more than $2.5 million to Missouri-based charities and causes. There was the $1 million donation to a children?s charity just before Christmas last year; then the $600,000 to Drury University for environmental technology (in the name of their father); and just a couple of weeks ago there was the $1 million donation to a pediatric cancer ward in honor of Jane Pitt. It seems Brad has successfully convinced Doug that there are better ways to help people rather than running for Congress:
Brad Pitt killed his brother Doug?s political career before it even got started.
Instead of a job in Washington, Brad wants Doug to work by his side. Doug, 42, a respected businessman and philanthropist in the family?s hometown of Springfield, Mo. He recently saw his name emerge as a leading choice to run for Congress in Missouri?s conservative 7th district.
But with firm prodding from Brad, Doug put the kibosh on entering his name on the 2010 ballot, a source told the Enquirer.
?Brad has big plans for him and Doug,? the source says. ?They?ve already worked on a few charitable projects together, and Brad wants to see them become even more involved as a team.?
?Brad felt if Doug was serving in Congress, anything they tried to do would smack of political cronyism.?
While Brad, 45, is a well-known liberal, Doug would have run as a Republican, says a friend. Doug jokingly needled his brother: ?Is this your way of trying to keep another Republican out of Congress??
Doug was intrigued with the idea of a political career, said the friend. ?And with the respect that he has, and that famous last name, he would have been a shoo-in.?
?But Brad helped him see that there are other things he can do to help make the world a better place.?
The Pitts have worked together on community projects, but Brad wants Doug by his side not just for humanitarian reasons. He values his business experience and wants him to help with his film production enterprise.
?There?s no one on earth Brad trusts more than his brother,? said the source. ?It Doug had headed to Washington as a politician, brad would have lost a trusted business partner.?
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 6 2009]
Honestly, I sort of believe this, and I sort of don?t. I?m not even sure Doug Pitt is really a Republican, but it?s conceivable. What I also find conceivable is that Doug might have had political ambitions. What I don?t buy is that Brad wouldn?t fully support whatever Doug wanted to do - and I don?t think Brad would refuse to support his brother just because of a ?cronyism? charge. It doesn?t make much sense to me - but then again, I don?t live in a Steinbeck novel.

Ashlee Simpson showed up at the “Power of Leather” event in Times Square this week Botoxed beyond belief and with a lip full of Juvederm. But it was her last role will leave us with her biggest legacy, her courageous battle with cancer. We watched as she was first diagnosed with the disease and we followed her as she fought it with all her might and then last month we saw her up close as she told her story of her nearly three year battle with cancer on NBC. | Suri Cruise gets a doll whenever she asks for a little sister | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Even though this week?s photo evidence showed a pregnant-looking Katie Holmes, we still got a formal denial from Katie?s rep. Her person said, ?Katie is not in a family way. In fact she and Tom and daughter Suri, 3, will all be heading to Australia in mid-July for Katie?s next film, Don?t Be Afraid of the Dark.? I don?t really understand why the rep threw in that part about Katie filming a movie - it?s not like pregnant women can?t act on camera just because they?re gestating. This isn?t the Middle Ages, you know? Back then, pregnant women did have to pull out of films because of pregnancy. Chuckle.
This little report from Star seems to indicate the same thing, however - that Katie is not knocked up, and that she has no interest in being knocked up any time soon. This bothers Princess Suri, who demands to be brought a little princess sister. It seems Katie placates Suri with dolls whenever Suri asks about babies. Great message, Katie:
Suri Cruise has everything except what she wants most - a sister. But mom Katie Holmes thinks she can buy that for her too!
?Every time Suri asks, Katie explains that it?s not the right time,? an insider tells Star. ?And then she buys her another doll to distract her!?
So they?ve been making a lot trips to LA?s American Girl Place, most recently on June 12. At $100 a pop, it?s almost be cheaper to have another kid!
[From Star Magazine, print edition, July 6 2009]
They do go to the American Girl store a lot - they?ve been photographed there like a half-dozen times. Suri must ask a lot of questions about babies. Or Suri is a friggin? genius, and knows that whenever she guilts her mom about ?a little sister?, Katie grabs her purse and they go shopping. Clever girl, that Suri. It must be the barley water.

| Johnny Depp on not watching his films: 'I stay as far away as I can' | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
This interview is cut a little short but is the only one I could find. Please comment with the full or two part video if you find it
Swoon-inducing Johnny Depp and his deep, smooth voice were on the Late Show last night. Depp looked just a little nervous and didn’t talk a lot, but he was incredibly gracious and funny and his quiet nature just added to his appeal.
Depp first talked about his children, Lily-Rose, 10, and Jack, 7. The 46 year-old superstar is notoriously guarded about his family life, but he revealed a little. Letterman reminded him that last time he was on the show he compared taking care of his children to watching a drunk.
On his kids
“They’re out of the tiny drunk phase now,” Depp joked. “I’m in it.”
“They’ve entered the age of technology now. It’s texting and Playstation. That sort of thing.”
“I see little boys lining up to date my daughter, and I fear for them.”
Letterman then brought up Depp’s new film on notorious criminals in the Great Depression Era, Public Enemies, in which he plays John Dillinger.
On whether he’s seen Public Enemies
“No, I’ve not [seen the movie]. Not just yet.
“In a way, once my job is done on the film, it’s really none of my business. [laughs]”
Letterman asked “So you deliberately don’t look at the finished product?”
“Oh yeah, I stay as far away as I possibly can,” he explained. “If I can, I try to stay in as profound a state of ignorance as possible.”
“Well, you’ve come to the right place,” Letterman quipped.
Letterman asked if Depp’s children have seen his movies and he said “actually, my kids have seen more of my films than I have.”
Letterman kept pressing the issue “Aren’t you a little curious to just get a glimpse of yourself.”
“Not remotely. Truly, honestly.”
This would easily explain Depp’s willingness to continue churning out confusing and bloated Pirates sequels. I can’t fault the guy, though, when he just oozes reticent charm and plays the hell out of every character. Depp makes every movie worth watching.
On getting along with his French neighbors
Letterman asked Depp if he spoke French, and he said “a bit more than before.”
“What is your life like with your fellow French speaking residents?”
“It depends. There’s a little wine. Sometimes there’s some cheese.”
On his 45 acre Island in the Bahamas
“I go to the Bahamas. We have a little place in the Bahamas.”
Dave asked, “Do you have buddies?”
“Yeah, I have a few buddies.”
“Are they actors as well?”
“No, I know a couple of actors. A couple of nice ones.”
Letterman showed a photo of Depp’s 45 acre island in the Bahamas, “Little Hall’s Pond Cay,” saying “nice going.”
Depp explained, “It’s the one place we can take the kiddies to the beach without a bunch of lenses coming out.”
After the break Letterman showed photos of Depp’s 155 foot boat that he uses to visit his private island, which is only reachable by boat or sea plane. Depp said he doesn’t fish but does enjoy snorkeling, and recounted a kind of scary encounter with a barracuda.
This interview totally made my day after some very sad news. I don’t know what it is about this guy, but whenever I see Depp talk I get butterflies in my stomach, grin like a fool, and feel all giddy. It’s not what he says, but how he says it, like someone on a first date who is confident but still nervous about making a good impression.
Public Enemies opens on July 1.
Here are photos of Depp out in NY last night and outside the Late Show. Look at how those fangirls are so thrilled to see him! Credit: WENN.com and Fame Pictures.

Fans are still in shock over Michael Jackson's death. Jackson's music entertained and inspired millions, and his devotees are reacting via all forms of media.
TV personality Ellen DeGeneres took to Twitter, saying, "So sad to hear about Michael Jackson. His music changed our lives. The world has lost an amazing singer and dancer. I will miss him."
Mariah Carey also tweeted, "I am heartbroken. My prayers go out to the Jackson family and my heart goes out to his children. Let us remember him for his unparalleled contribution to the world of music, his generosity of spirit in his quest to heal the world and the joy he brought to his millions of devoted fans throughout the world. I feel blessed to have performed with him several times and to call him my friend. No artist will ever take his place. His star will shine forever."
"Just like many other artists, I have always been inspired by Michael Jackson," Keri Hilson said. "He's the only idol I've ever had and I'm saddened that I never got to tell him how much he and his music mean to me. I've met many stars in my life but I would have been completely satisfied just to have laid eyes on MJ himself," she continued. "The closest I've come was hearing he and his band rehearsing right next door to me here in L.A. last month, while he was rehearsing for his tour abroad. I will be overseas at the same time the tour was scheduled so yet again I looked forward to being in the same place."
Juelz Santana spoke to MTV News, still in disbelief. "This is ... damn!" he said. "Wow! Unexpected. A shock. A low blow. All that right there." The Diplomat member said he woke up around 4:45 p.m. to the news of the icon's death.
"I'm getting myself together, walking in the living room [when] they said Mike died," Santana recalled. "It was breaking news at 5. I put it up on Twitter and people were saying his death was still pending. I couldn't believe it. ... I just woke up and they said, 'Mike is dead.' The first thought in your mind is, 'That's Michael Jackson. He can't be dead.' That just shows you everybody is human, nobody is immune to nothing — especially death."

Britney Spears was among the many stars mourning the loss of Michael Jackson, who died of cardiac arrest on Thursday afternoon (June 25).
"I was so excited to see his show in London," the singer said in a statement. "We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I'm devastated he's gone!"
In 2001, Britney duetted with Jackson onstage at his 30th anniversary concert
at New York's Madison Square Garden, where she strutted sexily around the stage during "The Way You Make Me Feel."
Madonna, who has collaborated with Spears and Jackson, said in a statement to People.com: "I can't stop crying over the sad news. I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."
Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos
Britney's former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, also made a statement on Jackson's passing. "I can't find the words right now to express how deeply saddened I am by Michael's passing," Timberlake said. "We have lost a genius and a true ambassador of not only pop music, but of all music. He has been an inspiration to multiple generations, and I will always cherish the moments I shared with him onstage and all of the things I learned about music from him and the time we spent together. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones."

By a stroke of luck (or, perhaps, fate), MTV was fortunate to launch just before Michael Jackson went supernova.
Back in 1981, he wasn't yet a global brand or a cultural icon — he wasn't even the King of Pop. Rather, he was just ascending to the throne. He'd had some hits (1972's "Ben," the first two cuts — "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You" — from 1979's Off the Wall), and he was ready to forever distance himself from his early years with the Jackson 5, but no one knew what to expect from him next.
Needless to say, we were all blown away with that next step. Released in 1983, Thriller was ... well, it was everything: a milestone release, a decade-defining collection of tunes, the biggest-selling album of all time and — most importantly — Michael's coronation. He was officially and forever the King of Pop, a title he held until his death Thursday (June 25) at the age of 50 and one that will probably be his forever.
And, again, whether it was due to luck or fate, MTV was there for that meteoric rise and everything that followed. Of course, there were his videos, which were not so much promotional vehicles for his songs as they were mini-movies, big-budget showcases for Michael Jackson: The Icon.
But MTV's relationship with Jackson didn't just end with his videos. The King of Pop was always there to raise the bar at the Video Music Awards, including his epic medley during the '95 show — which began with him stripping out of his jacket and breaking into "The Way You Make Me Feel," climaxed with him belting out "You Are Not Alone" backed by a full gospel choir and featured renditions of hits like "Scream," "Beat It," "Black or White" (complete with fret-bending mega solo from Slash) and "Billie Jean" in between. He also showed young guns 'NSYNC how it was really done in a surprise performance at the '01 awards. Jackson eternally brought the house down.

There were also legendary non-performance moments, all of which became pop-culture touchstones, like his awkward kiss with then-wife Lisa Marie Presley that opened the 1994 VMAs, which was intended to ward off the couple's detractors but didn't quite succeed. Or the legendary exchange at the '02 awards, where Britney Spears presented Jackson with a birthday cake, which Jackson mistook as an award proclaiming him to be the Artist of the Millennium.
MTV News was there for the less-than-light moments too. We were outside the Santa Maria, California, courthouse in November 2003 when Jackson was charged with 10 felony charges

The world has seen the death of one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Michael Jackson has died, but his impact and influence are everlasting, as evidenced by the dozens of celebrities speaking out.
"This loss has deeply saddened me!" Usher told MTV News on Thursday night (June 25). "It is with a heavy heart I composed this statement. May God cover you, Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire Jackson family, particularly Michael's mother, children and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for him, and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer, who in so many ways transcended the culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled. Michael Jackson will never be forgotten."
"I'm in total shock," Estelle said. "He's one of the reasons for me pushing for excellence with everything — shows, songs — I do. Prayers for the entire family."
"It is a sad day in the world of entertainment," Nick Cannon told MTV News. "Michael Jackson was the reason I wanted to be an entertainer."
"This is such a tragic loss and a terrible day," Beyonc added. "The incomparable Michael Jackson has made a bigger impact on music than any other artist in the history of music. He was magic. He was what we all strive to be. He will always be the King of Pop! Life is not about how many breaths you take, but about how many moments in life that take your breath away. For anyone who has ever seen, felt or heard his art, we are all honored to have been alive in this generation to experience the magic of Michael Jackson. I love you, Michael."
Irv Gotti described Jackson as "the biggest star of our generation," which is tough to dispute. "The Best Entertainer!" Gotti beamed of Jackson. "He made the best records, videos, everything. I'm saddened by the world's loss. For a brief time he considered working with me and having me produce his album. In that brief time, I got to know him fairly well. And he was just the coolest person. My prayers go out to the whole Jackson family and especially his children."
"I feel like John Lennon got shot, like Obama lost, like my dog got ran over," Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump said. "This is sad like 'On the Waterfront,' sad like 'Raging Bull,' sad like 'The Wrestler.' Music rarely gets hits like this; this is almost unparalleled. Even people who didn't enjoy his music have to acknowledge his influences. He was to pop what Davis and Coltrane were to bop. He was to R&B what Neil Armstrong was to the moon: an explorer who discovered a whole world unto itself. He was the Nikola Tesla of dance moves."
"MJ made black folks proud," Trick Daddy testified. "He influenced our music and our style of dress. He taught us what it meant to be a 'performer.' He was our beloved icon, and we'll hold him in our hearts forever.
"We've just lost the most loved, talented and famous African-American in the world," the Miami MC continued. "Everyone from the age of 25-80 should be saddened by this loss, and if you're younger and you don't know the history, you need to learn it. Michael paved the way for blacks into the mainstream."
A huge part of Jackson's legacy was his live performance. Jackson was inspired by fellow performer James Brown and dominated the stage like no other. He and the Jackson 5 had legendary performances at the "world famous" Apollo Theater.
"The entire Apollo family is saddened to learn of Michael Jackson's untimely passing," said Jonelle Procope, president and CEO of the Apollo Theater Foundation Inc. "Michael first performed at the Apollo in 1969 with his brothers when he was only 9 years old, winning Amateur Night and catapulting their career as the Jackson 5. We will always remember Michael in our hearts as a true Apollo legend, known for his professionalism and grace. Our sympathy goes out to his entire family. He will be deeply missed."

In the wake of Michael Jackson's death Thursday (June 25), musicians, actors and celebrities — including some of Jackson's closest friends like Quincy Jones and colleagues like Justin Timberlake and Martin Scorsese — are remembering Jackson as their friend and mentor.
"I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news," Jones said. "For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words. Divinity brought our souls together on 'The Wiz' and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the '80s. To this day, the music we created together on Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad is played in every corner of the world, and the reason for that is because he had it all ... talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer, and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."
In addition to JC Chasez, fellow 'NSYNCers Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass remembered the times they spent with him, like in 2001, when they performed at the VMAs together.
"I am stunned and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Michael Jackson," Bass added. "Michael was a huge supporter of my career, but more importantly, he was a good friend, had the biggest heart, and it was an honor and pleasure to be able to work with him and know him. There will never be another Michael Jackson. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Will.I.Am, who worked with Jackson, said, "I am so grateful to have worked with the King. He was a gift to the world. He is a bright light, and I wouldn't be surprised if the world stopped spinning tomorrow."
Seth Green also remembered Jackson in a statement to MTV News: "It's shocking and so sad. But for the first time in a long time, people are talking about all of the amazing things he was rather than all of the unfortunate attention he'd acquired."
The hip-hop community also shared its condolences. "Michael Jackson was my musical God," Wyclef John said. "He made me believe that all things are possible, and through real and positive music. He can live forever! I love Michael Jackson. God Bless him."
"Michael Jackson was my generation's most iconic cultural hero," Russell Simmons said. "Courageous, unique and incredibly talented. He'll be missed greatly." Diddy chimed in on Twitter: "Michael Jackson showed me that you can actually see the beat. He made the music come to life!! He made me believe in magic. I will miss him!"
A pair of legendary directors, Martin Scorsese and Steve Spielberg also paid tribute to the late star. "Michael Jackson was extraordinary," Scorsese said. "When we worked together on 'Bad,' I was in awe of his absolute mastery of movement on the one hand, and of the music on the other. Every step he took was absolutely precise and fluid at the same time. It was like watching quicksilver in motion. He was wonderful to work with, an absolute professional at all times, and — it really goes without saying — a true artist. It will be awhile before I can get used to the idea that he's no longer with us."
"Just as there will never be another Fred Astaire or Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley, there will never be anyone comparable to Michael Jackson," Spielberg told Entertainment Weekly. "His talent, his wonderment and his mystery make him legend."

Holy crap. It’s a really bad week to be a celebrity. One of the most influential artists in pop history has passed away today at the age of 50. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, suffered a cardiac arrest early this afternoon at his home in Holmby Hills. Paramedics were unable to revive him when they arrived at the scene. Sources say Jackson was already dead before they arrived. Jackson was rushed to UCLA Medical Center but they were still unable to get a pulse.

In recent years, he’s been mocked more than celebrated, but there is no denying his place in music history. So, in honor of Michael’s passing, I put on a surgeon’s mask, moonwalked across my front lawn and poured a carton of milk on the curb for my recently deceased homie.

Holy shit. You pass out at the neighborhood pool for a few hours, come back and Michael Jackson is dead. That’s two celebrities in one day, for those of you keeping a death toll. TMZ says
Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.
Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We’re told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.
A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.
Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.
Wow. I always figured he’d die on the operating table or erotically asphyxiating himself in a burqa some little kid’s closet. I have to say, this was much more dignified way to go.
In his honor, more naked pictures of Bo Derek (first printed in Lui Magazine in May 1980 before appearing in Playboy), since everyone seemed to enjoy them so much today:
