More than a week ago, there was a curious Johnny Depp story which I ignored. At the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival, Johnny Depp will be honored with the Donostia Award, which is the biggest prize at the festival and likely the equivalent of a lifetime-achievement award. Many film festivals hand out those kinds of awards to ensure that some big-name celebrity comes to their festival and makes a speech or does a Q&A session. Curiously, the Spanish Association of Female Filmmaker and Audiovisual Media has protested Depp?s award, with the president of the association telling media outlets: ?This speaks very badly of the festival and its leadership and transmits a terrible message to the public: It doesnt matter if you are an abuser as long as you are a good actor.?? The festival is still going to honor him.
In November of last year, Depp lost his libel lawsuit when the British court affirmed that when the Sun referred to him as a ?wifebeater,? it was merely a statement of fact. Depp still has other lawsuits proceeding in various courts, because he continues to use the legal system to abuse Amber Heard. Hollywood is over it I personally think the combination of his failed libel lawsuit and the Hollywood Reporter cover story last December were the final blows for Depp. He?s persona non grata for every studio, every producer, every costar. Depp is starting to figure that out too, and he?s whining about it in a new interview:
Johnny Depp says he feels he is being boycotted by Hollywood as his latest film, Minamata, has yet to be released in the United States, calling his fall from Hollywood graces as an ?absurdity of media mathematics.?
Discussing the film in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Depp discussed the ?surreal five years? he has experienced during his fallout from the Hollywood community.
Depp stars in the movie as W Eugene Smith, an American photojournalist who helped expose the devastating impact of mercury poisoning on coastal communities in Japan in the 1970s. Depp said he ?looked those people in the eyeballs and promised we would not be exploitative. That the film would be respectful. I believe that we?ve kept our end of the bargain, but those who came in later should also maintain theirs.?
The 58-year-old actor also addressed his standing in the film industry, saying, ?Some films touch people and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things. And for anything ? for Hollywood?s boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years??
Depp noted that he is ?moving towards where I need to go to make all that ? to bring things to light.?
[From THR]
Depp thinks he?s ?moving towards where I need to go to make all that ? to bring things to light.? Which means he thinks that if he just continues to sue Amber Heard and make her life a living hell and financially abuse her for years after their divorce, that suddenly one day, people will be like ?Oh, Johnny Depp was innocent all along.? He doesn?t understand that his actions post-divorce have proven Amber?s side. How many courts have to tell him that he?s an abuser?

| Nicki Minaj & Kenneth Petty sued by his rape victim for harassment, intimidation | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Nicki Minaj began dating Kenneth Petty in late 2018. Media outlets began looking into his backstory, especially given that Minaj and Petty seemed to go from ?dating? to ?super-serious? in about a week. No one had to look that far, his criminal past is public record, especially since he?s a sex offender and murderer who was still on parole when they got together. In 1995, took a plea deal for an attempted rape in the first degree on a then-16-year-old. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter of Lamont Robinson. Basically, the man had been in and out of prison for the better part of two decades when he married Minaj in 2019. The rape conviction was one of reasons why there was so much initial coverage of Petty because of that conviction, he has to register as a sex offender wherever he lives (because of Megan?s Law). And because of that, Nicki Minaj was apparently doing the fking most to somehow get Petty?s victim to recant her story. And in doing so, Minaj made the woman feel unsafe and harassed. Now the woman is suing Nicki and Kenneth Petty:
A woman says rapper Nicki Minaj?s husband raped her while the two were teens in Queens more than 20 years ago ? and the couple then harassed her and tried to intimidate her into recanting, according to a new lawsuit.
Jennifer Hough says in her Brooklyn federal-court suit that she was raped by Minaj?s hubby, Kenneth Petty, in 1994, after she encountered him while waiting for the school bus in Jamaica. Petty allegedly approached her at the bus stop ? then pulled a knife, held it to her back and led her to a nearby house, where he raped her, according to the suit. After the alleged rape, he got off Hough and stood in front of a mirror while saying, ?I am the man. I am the man,? the suit states. Petty was arrested at the time and ended up taking a plea deal, serving more than four years behind bars on the charge of attempted rape, the New York Times reported.
Hough says in her suit that she suffered mental anguish for years after the attack ? and then was targeted by Minaj when Petty was arrested in 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender in California over her case. Minaj called Hough on the phone and offered to ?help out? her situation, saying she could fly her and her family to California, according to the suit. Hough declined, the suit states.
The ?Starships? rapper also allegedly offered to fly her publicist out to meet Hough to craft a statement for her to recant the accusation, the suit alleges. Hough says she refused. Then through a series of encounters, Hough and members of her family were allegedly repeatedly offered cash bribes for as much as $500,000 by Minaj and her associates to get her to recant, the suit says.
In one proposed scheme, an old friend of Hough?s identified as ?Black? in the suit told Hough that Minaj would record ?happy birthday? videos for Hough?s daughter for her ?Sweet 16? if she recanted. Hough says in her suit that she again refused. Hough is seeking unspecified damages for the alleged harassment.
A lawyer for Petty did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A rep for Minaj could not immediately be reached.

I believe Jennifer Hough. I also believe that Nicki Minaj would be stupid enough to think that she could ?pay off? Hough to recant her statement after all of this time and that would somehow change anything? Like, Petty still took the plea deal. The rape was not ?alleged? taking a plea deal is the same as a conviction, and he still needs to register as a sex offender. Hough probably also knows that even if she did take some kind of payoff to recant, Minaj would probably turn around and demand that Hough be charged with filing a false police report.
Looking at past coverage too back when Minaj and Petty got together and the Barbz were on Nicki?s social media, talking about how Petty seemed problematic as fk because of the rape, Nicki wrote a response to one fan: ?He was 15, she was 16 ? in a relationship. But go awf Internet. Y?all can?t run my life. Y?all can?t even run y?all own life. Thank you boo.? She said that about her now-husband raping a teenage at knifepoint. Of course she was harassing Jennifer Hough.

| Emma Stone isn't suing Disney, she just signed a bigger deal for 'Cruella 2' | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A little more than two weeks ago, Scarlett Johansson sued Disney for breach of contract over the release of Black Widow. Basically, ScarJo?s bonuses are screwed up because Disney released BW on their Premier Access streaming service and Disney is not sharing the revenue with Scarlett. I think Scarlett has a good case, and I think Disney knows she has a good case, which is why Disney immediately began to smear Scarlett. While Scarlett has gotten some significant support from her agency, CAA, and her union, SAG, I?ve been a little bit surprised by the lack of vocal support she?s gotten from her peers in the industry. There?s no telling who has reached out to her privately, granted, but for now, the optics are ?everyone is waiting to see how all of this plays out before they take a side publicly.?
Immediately following Scarlett?s lawsuit, there were rumors that Emma Stone and Emily Blunt might do the same, or explore their options when it came to suing Disney. Emma?s turn in Cruella was critically acclaimed, but the box office was not as big as people expected, likely because of the same Premier Access issue. Same with Emily Blunt and Jungle Cruise. But it looks like Emma isn?t going to sue. Instead, she?s using Scarlett?s lawsuit as a way to negotiate a better deal for herself for the Cruella sequel.
Oscar winner Emma Stone has closed a deal to star in the sequel to Cruella, in what is a very good sign for Disney as it secures talent in the wake of some criticism of its theatrical-Disney+ Premier model.
Cruella, due to the pandemic, was released in theaters and on Disney+ PVOD tier on May 26, earning more than $222 million in worldwide ticket sales. The release of Cruella 2 is a ways off, and it?s not certain at this time whether the movie will be a pure theatrical release or like its predecessor released simultaneously in homes.
Emma Stone?s deal for Cruella 2, I hear, mutually benefits both sides especially at a time when Disney is still assessing the dynamic window model on its event titles.
Endeavor executive chairman Patrick Whitesell had this to say about the agency?s client Stone and her Cruella 2 deal.
?While the media landscape has been disrupted in a meaningful way for all distributors, their creative partners cannot be left on the sidelines to carry a disproportionate amount of the downside without the potential for upside. This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studios? interests with talent. We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and appreciate the studio?s willingness to recognize her contributions as a creative partner. We are hopeful that this will open the door for more members of the creative community to participate in the success of new platforms.?
[From Deadline]
It?s interesting that they specified that Emma is represented by Endeavor because I misremembered it and I thought she was with CAA, like Scarlett, and I thought ?well, that?s awkward.? But no, not as awkward. I wonder if CAA has an agency-wide beef with Disney right now, or if various CAA agents are still making deals between Disney and their clients. Endeavor certainly is, although it seems more than possible that Emma?s rep has at least been in contact with people on Scarlett?s team.
So, what are our thoughts on Emma?s machinations? Emma and Endeavor are clearly using Scarlett?s lawsuit to their benefit, and Disney has likely sweetened Emma?s deal substantially since the lawsuit, for fear of fighting off another lawsuit. Part of me is like ?good for Emma, I?m glad she found a silver lining with this Disney sh-tshow.? Another part of me is like ?damn, not much of a sisterhood.?
