The Cannes Film festival began on Tuesday, with the world premiere of Jeanne du Barry. The star of that film? Johnny Depp, who looked ?fresh? from the hairplug salon. His plugs were the only fresh thing about him this convicted wife beater looks ugly inside and out. The less said the better.
It?s truly unfortunate that people still cast Depp in anything, and it?s despicable that the Cannes Film Festival not only put Depp?s film in competition, they gave him the opening-night premiere. An audience full of misogynists gave him a standing ovation too. Even his hairplugs wept.

She wrote about how her personal and professional life was affected in the wake of speaking out about being a victim of domestic violence. She never mentioned Depp by name. That op-ed was published in 2018. In 2019, Depp sued her for defamation. Before the American case could proceed, Depp had to deal with the libel lawsuit he brought against the Sun, the British tabloid, which had referred to him as a ?wife-beater.? Depp lost the libel suit and the judge found that there was ample evidence that saying or writing ?Johnny Depp is a wife-beater? is a statement of fact and not libelous in the least. That was in 2020.
For the past six weeks during the Fairfax trial, Depp and his people have waged a sustained and batsh-t disinformation campaign against Amber. There have been live-streams of the case, TikTokers have been mocking Amber, tweeters have been running around lying in defense of a man with a history of violence, and Deppford Wives have been inserting themselves in every single conversation. Here at Celebitchy, we have not been immune. We?ve been dealing with Depp bots, Depp trolls and truly unwell Depp fans for years and it?s ramped up in recent months. Which is why we?ve opted out of daily coverage of the Fairfax trial (and also why we ignored the day-to-day storylines from the UK libel case). As I said, there?s been a sustained campaign. Someone is bankrolling this. This is not simply an organic surge of Depp-fandom. It never was.
The Fairfax trial was, frankly, deplorable. Depp?s goal was, as ever, to punish Heard. That?s been his goal for years now, to humiliate her, to punish her, to abuse her by any means necessary, to ruin her financially and professionally. And in this case, he won. The jury came back on Wednesday. The jury was not sequestered, by the way. They all had access to those TikToks and the paid Depp pysops campaign being waged like he was trying to steal an election. The jury mostly found in Depp?s favor, no surprise.
A jury has found both Amber Heard and Johnny Depp liable for defamation in their lawsuits against each other. Depp sued Heard, his ex-wife, for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in which she described herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse. Though Depp was not named in the article, he claims it cost him lucrative acting roles. Heard countersued her ex-husband for defamation over statements Depps attorney made about her abuse claims.
The jury found that Heard defamed Depp in three separate statements in The Washington Post piece, and that Depp defamed Heard with one statement his attorney made.
The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages.

This reminds me of the ?mutual abuse? argument the Deppford Wives made for about a week. That sure, Depp and Heard had a toxic and abusive relationship but that Heard shouldn?t have done this or that. That?s what this verdict is it?s the ?both sides, but mostly we hate her? verdict. While I believe that this campaign was almost all about an abusive man?s ego and sadism, it obviously has wider repercussions. The worst people in America are already celebrating this as ?the end of Me Too? and ?the end of Believe Women.? The GOP is celebrating merely because ?bitches, right?? All of this is just? contemptible.

In 2018, Amber Heard wrote a Washington Post op-ed about surviving domestic violence only to be subjected to harassment, hate and legal abuse by her powerful and abusive ex. She actually never wrote the name ?Johnny Depp? in her op-ed, but she made references to her divorce, the difficult divorce proceedings and everything that happened after she left her abuser. She wrote about how institutions are built to protect men and protect abusers. Johnny Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against her in 2019 specifically for the op-ed. There have been pre-trial motions and filings in the two and a half years since he filed, and Amber has been trying to get it thrown out of court because she?s just tired of her ex-husband exploiting the legal system to emotionally and financially abuse her. Well, the case is moving forward:
Johnny Depp has been allowed to move forward with his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard. The actor, 58, is suing his ex-wife over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed where Heard, 35, wrote about surviving domestic violence. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, a Virginia judge granted the actor the right to pursue his lawsuit, denying Heards supplemental plea to dismiss the case after Depp lost his U.K. libel lawsuit against British tabloid The Sun.
In November 2020, the Pirates of the Caribbean star lost his case against the British tabloid which called him a wife-beater. The court upheld the outlets claims as being substantially true.
Heards plea to dismiss Depps lawsuit, filed in Virginia in March 2019, came as the actress argued the U.K. judgment should hold sway on the proceedings in the U.S. since both lawsuits center on allegations of the actor as an abuser. More than a week ago, there was a curious Johnny Depp story which I ignored. At the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival, Johnny Depp will be honored with the Donostia Award, which is the biggest prize at the festival and likely the equivalent of a lifetime-achievement award. Many film festivals hand out those kinds of awards to ensure that some big-name celebrity comes to their festival and makes a speech or does a Q&A session. Curiously, the Spanish Association of Female Filmmaker and Audiovisual Media has protested Depp?s award, with the president of the association telling media outlets: ?This speaks very badly of the festival and its leadership and transmits a terrible message to the public: It doesnt matter if you are an abuser as long as you are a good actor.?? The festival is still going to honor him.
In November of last year, Depp lost his libel lawsuit when the British court affirmed that when the Sun referred to him as a ?wifebeater,? it was merely a statement of fact. Depp still has other lawsuits proceeding in various courts, because he continues to use the legal system to abuse Amber Heard. Hollywood is over it I personally think the combination of his failed libel lawsuit and the Hollywood Reporter cover story last December were the final blows for Depp. He?s persona non grata for every studio, every producer, every costar. Depp is starting to figure that out too, and he?s whining about it in a new interview:

Depp said he ?looked those people in the eyeballs and promised we would not be exploitative. That the film would be respectful. I believe that we?ve kept our end of the bargain, but those who came in later should also maintain theirs.?
The 58-year-old actor also addressed his standing in the film industry, saying, ?Some films touch people and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things. And for anything ? for Hollywood?s boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years??

At some point, last year, I simply did not want to cover Johnny Depp?s mess any longer. It felt, to me, like he was still seeking to emotionally and financially abuse Amber Heard years after their divorce, years after she left him for abusing her. Their divorce was completed in 2015. Then he sued The Sun (in Britain) for libel, because they published articles in which they called him a ?wife beater.? He also sued Amber for defamation in federal court in Virginia because of an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post where she simply called herself a survivor of abuse (she didn?t name names). All of this has had a Streisand Effect, drawing more attention to just how abusive and toxic the Heard-Depp marriage was, years after the fact. Anyway, the libel trial against the Sun happened a few months ago and now the verdict is in. Depp lost.
A UK court has ruled against the actor Johnny Depp in his explosive libel case with The Sun, saying that the tabloid was justified in its use of the phrase ?wife beater? in a 2018 article about his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard.
The judge, Justice Andrew Nicol, decreed that the allegation was ?substantially true? in today?s verdict. The 129-page court document concludes plainly that ?Mr Depp did assault Ms Heard? in reference to the multiple allegations of domestic violence that were presented during the trial, declaring that the ?great majority? had been proved.
The verdict also notes that it does not accept the characterization of Heard as a ?gold-digger?. ?She was, according to this scenario, nothing more than a gold-digger,? Justice Nicol wrote in his ruling. ?I do not accept this characterization of Ms. Heard,? he added, pointing out she had claimed to have given all of her $7 million divorce settlement to charity. ?Her donation is hardly the act one would expect of a gold-digger,? the judge said.
?The Claimant has not succeeded in his action for libel. Although he has proved the necessary elements of his cause of action in libel, the Defendants have shown that what they published in the meaning which I have held the words to bear was substantially true,? the judge?s summation reads.
The 16-day trial in July saw Depp and Heard trade accusations over their conduct during their short-lived marriage. Here?s a recap. Heard?s allegations, which included 14 instances of abuse, formed the basis for The Sun parent company News Group Newspapers? defense of its usage of the phrase ?wife beater?. Depp in turn described Heard?s accusations as ?sick? and a ?hoax? and claimed the actress was the aggressor in their relationship.
Heard and Depp are now set for a second legal showdown in the States. Depp is suing Heard for $50M in Virginia over a Washington Post column she wrote about domestic violence. The actor has been ordered to sit for deposition next month by Fairfax County VA Circuit Court Chief Judge Bruce White.
Responding to today?s verdict, Heard?s U.S. lawyer Elaine Charlson Bredehoft told AP the outcome of the UK trial was ?not a surprise?, adding that ?very soon, we will be presenting even more voluminous evidence in the U.S.?

Well, that did not go as he planned. Honestly, I?m a bit surprised considering all of the insane hoopla and he-said/she-said of the case, I thought it would all end in a wash, some vague ruling about how dare anyong question a famous movie star like Johnny Depp. But I guess not. I wonder if Heard will get to use this verdict as part of her defense in the American defamation case? That, to me, always seemed like the one Heard would win she was very careful in that op-ed and she didn?t name him at all. He was the one who raised his hand and said ?she?s talking about me!?

Many people are justifiably mad that Johnny Depp is now part of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Depp has a large role in the second film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, as he plays Grindelwald. He got the role in 2014-15, as he put in a cameo in the first film. Remember that we didn?t really know the extent of Depp?s abusive douchery until 2016, when Amber Heard filed for divorce. So, he already had the Grindelwald role, although I would argue that they could have easily replaced him for cause for the second film. But no, they didn?t. And now he?s confirming that he?ll be in the third Fantastic Beasts movie too.
How he came to the Fantastic Beast movies: ?It was amazing. It came out of nowhere. Someone said J.K. Rowling would like to talk to me. I spoke to a few producers and the director and to J.K. and had long conversations basically about the Grindelwald character. J.K. said something I did not expect to hear because obviously her detail to her characters and those wizarding worlds is astonishing. The fact that she said, ?I can?t wait to see what you do with the character.? Just to hand it off to me with that degree of trust, I was really touched, blown away by that. So I jumped into locating the character and I had my ideas. I came in and it all seemed to work out. Grindelwald is an interesting character. His intentions in his mind are for the greater good, but there have been other people in world politics and such who felt the same way. [chuckles] He?s very dedicated to his beliefs. He?s not a fun character; he?s not funny.
He enjoys playing the character: ?I loved it yeah. I loved it because that?s really an arena where you can fly around and try different things and approach a character with a lot more?um?to take someone who is teetering on being a fascist, yeah he?s a fascist, he?s one of those, but to play him as a sensitive, concerned yet manipulative and powerful wizard. The possibilities in that world are wide open, so you can really try anything. So it was a gas and I look forward to the next installment, which I think we start the middle of next year.

JK Rowling hand-picked Depp to play Grindelwald, which is probably why she was so nonsensical in her defense of his casting SHE decided that he needed to play Grindelwald and I guess no one could talk her out of it. And now Depp is clinging to this like it?s his last chance at a successful franchise, because he completely drove the Pirates franchise into the ground. I find myself angrier at JK Rowling and the producers for this mess. Ugh.

Here are those photos of Johnny Depp looking profoundly unwell in Rome again. He?s still touring with The Hollywood Vampires, and I believe this tour has not been the healthiest experience for him. He?s gone from looking bad to looking like he?s got one foot in the grave. Perhaps the Rolling Stone article?s reference to ?the last days of Elvis? isn?t far off. Note: I?m not saying I want that to happen, at all. I?m honestly hoping that Depp gets some kind of significant wakeup call and pulls himself out of this downward spiral.
Until that moment comes, it?s worth discussing this latest mess. A month ago, Page Six had a report about Depp?s terrible behavior on the set of LAbryinth, where Depp plays the real-life detective who investigated Biggie?s murder. Page Six reported that Depp was an utter nuisance on the set, that he had his entourage there at all times and they were causing a commotion. Depp also tried to direct his own scenes and he thought he could bully people around. When one crew member told him to wrap on a scene in a particular location (a location where they had already overstayed), Depp screamed in the guy?s face and then punched the guy in the ribs. Depp?s rep denied the incident vaguely at the time, telling Page Six: ?Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists. He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories ? there isn?t one here.? Guess what?
A film crew member is alleging in a lawsuit that Johnny Depp twice punched him on the Los Angeles set of a movie about the killing of the Notorious B.I.G. The lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court by location manager Gregg Rocky Brooks also claims that he was fired from the movie, called City of Lies, when he refused to sign papers saying he wouldnt sue over the incident.
Brooks alleges that in April 2017, the movies director forced him to inform Depp that an upcoming shot would have to be the days last. The lawsuit says Depp screamed obscenities at Brooks and punched him twice in the ribs, then offered him $100,000 to punch back.
Messages left with Depp representatives seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Bankruptcy law makes my eyes cross, and details on the ins and outs of foreclosures give me a headache. So if you?re anything like me, you just want to know the broad strokes. Here are the broad strokes: Johnny Depp is broke-ass-broke. His ex-managers gave him a $5 million loan to stay afloat in December 2012. Those are the same ex-managers who are now being sued by Johnny Depp, because he says they defrauded him of millions of dollars. The ex-managers say that Depp is a drunk scarf monster who blows all of his money on art and wine and real estate. Well, long story short, the ex-managers want their $5 million loan back and they?re willing to take Depp?s real estate holdings to get it.
Nearly a year after Johnny Depp and his former business managers start throwing accusations and betrayals at each other in court over millions in the seemingly spendthrift actor?s troubled finances, The Management Group on Monday filed an ?action for judicial foreclosure? against the Pirates of the Caribbean star. Aiming for the heart of what started the lawsuits flying back in January when the actor went after TMG in a $25 million fraud suit, the move Monday is to force a sale of five Los Angeles properties owned by Depp run trusts. Those sales are part of a larger play to repay a $5 million loan TMG made to the strapped actor in December 2012.
?TMG agreed to come to the aid of its long-time client,? the complaint filed in LA Superior Court today said of a pressing and due City National Bank loan that Depp had no way of meeting and his ex-biz managers got a ?pass-through? for. ?The idea behind this arrangement, which was designed to save Depp from a public and devastating financial collapse, was that Depp would pay TMG what TMG was required to pay CNB under the loan,? the non-jury trial seeking document adds of the company and its 17-year long client?s deal.
?At least at the time, Depp and his sister, personal manager, and the president of his production company, (Elisa Christi) Dembrowski, were very grateful to TMG for coming to Depp?s aid and helping him to avoid a public financial collapse,? TMG?s lawyers Michael Kump and Suann MacIsaac assert. ?In fact, three years later, Depp used the fact that TMG had lent him money to pressure his long-time agent, United Talent Agency, to guarantee a further multi-million dollar loan from Bank of America,? the duo declare.
These sort of foreclosure actions usually move through the courts faster than most matters and, if a judgment is found in Depp?s disfavor, could see the Sheriff or a marshall snagging the properties within a year and selling them to pay the loan Depp has apparently decided not to.

Depp didn?t offer a comment on Deadline?s story – perhaps because the trade papers seem to be lining up against him – but his lawyer did go to People Magazine to issue a statement, saying: ?Today?s improper foreclosure action is the latest of the Mandels? efforts to intimidate Mr. Depp into dropping his lawsuit.? The lawyer said the ex-managers won?t get Depp?s homes and ?We will move for sanctions for this latest publicity stunt.? Is it a publicity stunt or do these ex-managers just want their $5 million loan back? These Depp-financial stories are getting messier and messier.

Last Thursday, Johnny Depp came out of hiding for the London premiere of Murder on the Orient Express, which we talked about. I wrote that Depp had perhaps Depp had spent his time away from the spotlight ?drying out? somewhat, because he didn?t look so puffy and boozy in the photos. True, he doesn?t look healthy these days, but much like Brad Pitt?s post-Angelina slim-down, it did seem like Depp isn?t consuming booze at the same rate as before, and it?s notable on his face especially. The problem is that many people thought Depp was acting drunk on the red carpet:
Johnny Depp returned to London for the Murder On The Orient Express premiere on Thursday. And judging by the looks he got from his fellow cast members, the Hollywood star may have enjoyed a few drinks on the way down. Johnny appeared a little bit worse for wear on the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall and allegedly reeked of booze while mixing with co-stars including DAME JUDI DENCH, Penelope Cruz and director KENNETH BRANAGH.
Snaps of his personal security man Jerry Judge having to practically hold him up only added to the impression he was having a big night out.
Indeed, Johnny?s partying started the previous evening at London club The Box. A movie source said: ?Johnny was having big old night and was told off for smoking three times while inside. He was annoyed people were staring at him too. But on the night of the premiere, he was in a strange mood and everyone thought he?d been drinking.?
He was lamenting his split from Amber Heard so he?s clearly still not over the issues of the previous couple of years.

I believe it, just because I tend to believe any and all negative stories about Johnny Depp these days. But a source told E! News: “These reports are completely false. Johnny was not drunk at the premiere. He came straight from set to the premiere. His security was maneuvering him around the carpet as he has done for years.” Ah, Depp?s security was not propping him up, they were ?maneauvering him around the carpet.? I haven?t heard that one before. Meanwhile, Depp was also a guest on the Graham Norton Show with some of the other cast members and people were NOT happy. I love Graham Norton, but I do think he should stop inviting Depp to the show – Depp?s TV interviews are increasingly horrible and now people are mad at Graham Norton for doing a softball interview with a domestic abuser.
