She's constantly getting media backlash about her new and over-the-top image, but according to Miley Cyrus, the attention doesn't seem to phase her the slightest.
While she knows she hit some nerves with her recent antics and in MTV's documentary "Miley: The Movement," which is set to premiere on Wednesday (October 2nd), the "Wrecking Ball" hitmaker states "I don't apologize for anything."
Discussing her infamous VMA performance, the 20-year-old explains,"It's a strategic hot mess. If I wanted a raunchy sex show, I wouldn't have been dressed as a damn bear."
Miss Cyrus continues, "How many times have you seen this play out in pop? Madonna's done it. Britney [Spears has] done it."
Also opening up about saying goodbye to her "good girl" persona, Miley says, "I just needed to let go of the past in a way, so I felt like I could be the bad b**** I am."

The rumors are true. Another man has laid claim to Kate Upton’s tits. According to a source close to the couple, Kate Upton and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are dating. The two met through a mutual friend six months ago and their love blossomed like Lindsay Lohan’s nostrils near a line of coke.
Specifically, the romance bloomed when Chmerkovskiy, 33, took Upton to an intimate dinner at Scalinatella in the Big Apple, to celebrate her 21st birthday on June 10.
“That’s when it really happened,” says the source. “It all really started just after her 21st birthday. They just clicked. They have a lot of chemistry together.”
“They get along great,” adds the source. “They have a lot of fun together.”
That’s it, guy. I’m adding your name to my hit list. I mean I would if I could ever remember how to spell it. C-h-m… screw it. I’m going to play GTA 5.

She?s been acting a little crazy lately, but it turns out Miley Cyrus' erratic behavior isn?t the result of pregnancy hormones.
The ?Can?t Be Tamed? songstress was the target of baby rumors after the Cream Bmp Daily website claimed she announced that she and Juicy J were expecting.
Cyrus supposedly said, ?No, I am really pregnant,? and Juicy was claimed to have affirmed, ?She?s been doing a lot more than twerking.? But it turns out no such quotes ever actually happened.
In fact, Miley wasn?t even in attendance at the BET Hip Hop Awards where she supposedly leaked the news.
However, there?s an entirely separate batch of pregnancy rumors regarding her recently-ended relationship with ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth. One source declared, ?Miley wanted to announce it to the world but Liam begged her not to go public.?
?He was emotionally out of the romance for months by that point, though he was still sleeping with her. She agreed to stay quiet for Liam's sake.? All of this to say, Miley is not with child!

Miley Cyrus’ Rolling Stone interview is a goldmine. Today we learn that she loves weed and molly but not coke because it’s so nineties.
I think weed is the best drug on earth. One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon. Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs ? social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You’re out in the open. You’re not in a bathroom. I really don’t like coke. It’s so gross and so dark. It’s like what are you, from the Nineties? Ew.
Is it just me or does Miley have the most boring hallucinations. You saw a wolf howling at the moon? That’s some exciting stuff right there. You didn’t think the world (i.e., Larry Rudolph) was done with Miley Cyrus’ unholy union with Rolling Stone, did you? We’ve already covered much of Miley’s warring statements. All at once, she was not trying to be sexy at the VMAs while also doing her best impression of “a creepy, sexy baby.” RS has now made the skydiving video available. Yes, that’s right. Miley got a tattoo and jumped out of an airplane all for the sake of one try-hard interview.
There are even more Rolling Stone quotes if you can believe it. I’ll get to those in a second, but first I want to mention a Page Six item that follows up on Miley’s professed love for molly. Pals say Miley took the drug before twerking all over Robin Thicke’s crotch at the VMAs. Her friends are worried because she pops the drug all the time. Page Six notes how Miley’s “white-coated tongue [is] a telltale sign: People who take molly often become dehydrated, leaving them with a dry mouth.” Dehydration also leads to the “stringy spit” displayed in the “Wrecking Ball” video. I don’t know much about molly (except that it causes holes in the brain), but how often would Miley need to do the drug to become so chronically dehydrated? Here are those other RS quotes:
On racism & pop music: “Me and [producer] Mike WiLL were talking about it. He said, ‘For me, my biggest achievement has been working with a white girl–but for a white girl to work and associate with black producers, you’re being ratchet.’ He’s like, ‘Why am I on the come-up if I work with you, but if you work with me, it’s like you’re trying to be hood?’ It’s a double-standard. I didn’t really realize it, but people are still racist. It’s kind of insane. Like if I had come out [at the VMAs] with all white-girl dancers, and done the f— ing “Cha Cha Slide”– same outfit, same everything — it wouldn’t have been bad. But because of who I came out with, people got upset. Because they were girls from the club. They had thick asses. They were twerking. That’s what I want, though — I want real girls up there who can really party. The Baker girls [her backup dance crew, the L.A. Bakers] don’t give a f— about me. They love me, but they’re not kissing my ass. They’re just excited to not be dancing at the club.”
On civil rights: “When my kids are around, there will be no one on this planet who was alive when there was segregation. Like, my grandma was around when there was real segregation, when there was no intertwining. For her, for someone that was born in the ’30s, it’s kind of shocking to have a black president. My grandma didn’t have a fucking phone even in her house. It was like Gone With the Wind. Calling long distance was like the craziest shit ever. Now my grandma?s like, ‘What do you mean you can watch a video on your phone?’ It’s gonna be the exact same thing with my kids: ‘What do you mean gay people couldn?t get married?’”
On the outrage: :I think it’s all marketing. If a website is like, ‘We love Miley’s performance!,’ I don’t think people are gonna click on it. ‘Miley’s cute performance with teddy bears!’ – no one is gonna click on that. So I think it’s the media riling up the people, rather than people riling up the media. And what makes me kind of sick is, Trayvon Martin’s trial didn’t happen more than two months ago. It got talked about a lot — but it still got done being talked about a lot quicker than the VMAs. And that’s really sad. For about two days, it was on Twitter and everything, everyone had their pictures as Trayvon — and then two days later, where was it? Who cared anymore? It slips your mind. We go on to the next thing, our next problem. It’s like, ‘Why are we not still dealing with that? Why are we not still mourning that loss?’”
On the tongue: “I just stick my tongue out because I hate smiling in pictures. It?s so awkward. It looks so cheesy. Now people expect it — like, ‘Put your tongue out!’ It’s just easier that way. Taking pictures is so embarrassing. But there’s also something about it that I think is cool. Every other girl is so serious — like this is my moment on the red carpet, I’m in my ball gown, looking pretty. There’s something empowering about what I’m doing right now. Especially having ‘short hair don’t care.’ I think it?s empowering for girls. Because there’s not one thing that defines what beauty is.”
On Bangerz: “It’s coming out soon, so right now I’m listening to it 20,000 times to make sure it’s perfect. I have to make sure every detail is perfect. There are albums that people still are listening to, like Michael Jackson’s Bad, because it’s so fucking dope. I want people to listen to my album like that. There’s a line Ludacris says on my album that goes, “If I die before my time, at least I’ll still be living through my music.” That’s something I’ve said over and over again. Like, I have one Pixies record that is a time for me — from the time I was 16 until I was 18, the Pixies is all I listened to. And I’m going to be that artist to so many people, so I want to make sure my record is the best it can be. I’m trying to set a new standard for pop music. So it has to live up.”

Did you hear Miley on that last point? She’s going “to set a new standard for pop music.” It would be fine if Miley admitted she’s only interested in making music for fun, fame, and fortune because that’s exactly what the outcome will be. Unfortunately, she’s about a millimeter away from describing her music and stage shows as ART.
I do see what Miley’s trying to say about racism, but I think her point is lost in the humblebrag about Mike WiLL elevating himself by being associated with her. The part about her tongue being empowering is silly — especially since it’s now viewable as evidence of dehydration. Miley can say whatever she wants about why she sticks her tongue out, but you know she does it for the attention.

On relationships with celebs:

You can be obsessed with bad things people say and the good things, either way you're obsessed with yourself and I'm not - you can become unhinged so easily. Vanity can apply to both insecurity and egotism. So I distance myself, because I feel everything. The little I am exposed to hurts my feelings. The only things I can really control are my songs and my behavior. The rest? If I focused on it, that would lead to insanity."

Natalie covers the November issue to promote Thor: The Dark World, and the interview was conducted by Tom Hiddleston. We don?t have many quotes from Tom about Natalie (and I can?t wait), but there is this one, about Natalie slapping him in Thor: ?Natalie has a neat right hook. I know this because the first time we shared screen time, she punched me in the face.? And of course, we do have lots of new quotes from Natalie. Here you go:
Natalie on betrayal:

I agree with her feminism up to a certain point. I like this especially: ?I want them to be allowed to be weak and strong and happy and sad ? human, basically.? That?s exactly right ? it?s not ?anti-feminist? to have human failings or vulnerabilities or what have you. But I?m not sure about this: ?A movie about a weak, vulnerable woman can be feminist if it shows a real person that we can empathize with.? My mind isn?t working as well as it should this morning, so help me nit-pick that one. If I empathize with a character who is weak, who is superficial and nasty to other people and gross in general, then that?s feminism? I disagree. Millions of little girls relate to Bella in Twilight, but that doesn’t make Twilight a “feminist” film/book.

After their brief reunion/naughty weekend away in Hong Kong two weekends ago, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are separated by thousands of miles once again. Angelina flew back to Sydney, Australia, where she?s still in preproduction for Unbroken. She came back to her four oldest children, having left the twins, Knox and Vivienne, with Brad. Brad flew back to England with Knox and Viv last week I guess. Brad is still working on the WWII film Fury, but I guess he had the weekend off. And so on Saturday, he took the twins to one of Angelina?s favorite places, Legoland. These are those photos.

I?m guessing that these pics are mostly from fans posting photos on their Twitter, or maybe some fan just sold some low-quality photos to Fame/Flynet. What I?m saying is the quality isn?t great, but still, it?s nice to see Brad out and about with his youngest kids. Angelina usually takes the kids to local Legolands, wherever they are. Angelina is close friends with someone associated with Legoland but I forget exactly what it is and when I tried to look up ?Angelina Legoland? all I got was a lot of references to The Leg. Ha! When Brad was filming World War Z in England a few years ago, Angelina would take the kids to this same Legoland often. It must be one of their favorite places.
You know what I love? Vivienne insists on having something Pink on at all times. Even when she?s being forced into The Mandatory Jolie-Pitt Black, Vivienne makes sure she?s wearing at least one item that is pink, even if it?s just an accessory, like a bag. I guess her dad let her wear a Pink sweater for Legoland!

Taking a break from their parental duties, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West enjoyed a leisurely morning in Paris, France on Monday (September 30).
The ?Ni**as in Paris? rapper and his ?Disaster Movie? dame both looked snazzy in designer duds as they stepped out for some errands and sightseeing while baby North West stayed back with a sitter.
Meanwhile, Kim?s hit E! reality show ?Keeping Up with the Kardashians? returned from hiatus on Sunday with a wonderful new episode- her baby shower.
Though she was initially put off by having the party, Ms. Kardashian ended up grateful for the fete. She explained, ?To say that all of this scrutiny doesn?t get to you, I would be lying. But listening to my family, really does make me realize that I want to have this special moment for my daughter.?

It?s been years since I stayed up and watched Saturday Night Live. There. That felt good, admitting that. There was a marked decline in talent and writing a few years ago on SNL, and basically I decided that if there was any particularly good skit, it would be easy enough to simply watch it the next day. This is my explanation for not watching the season premiere of SNL this weekend, despite the fact that my favorite lady Tina Fey was the host. I love Tina and everything and she usually gets a higher-quality of writing than other hosts, but still? I wasn?t going to sit through the whole episode just to see if there were one or two funny skits.
Thankfully, everyone is still talking about only one skit in particular. Tina did a really wonderful spoof of Girls ? other SNL cast members played the regular cast members on Girls and Tina played the ?new girl? of the show, Albanian refugee/immigrant Blerta. You know what? If this was really a show ? a sitcom about self-absorbed millenials and one tough-talking refugee, I would LOVE IT. And I would watch it. Here you go:
Genius. Again, this isn?t about Tina Fey ?not supporting female artists.? This about Tina feeling/saying/acting like female artists should be treated just the same as men ? as in, everyone gets to be spoofed and joked about, male or female.
And it seems that Lena Dunham agrees ? she was at Mindy Kaling?s house watching SNL (Mindy tweeted a photo of it and Lena re-tweeted the photo) and Lena also tweeted this: ?The SNL parody of Girls was a true honor.? She ain?t mad. At least she?s not mad about it publicly. And I doubt she?s mad about it in general too.

There was a specific reason for why Kanye West and Kim Kardashian left North West in LA so they could fly to France for Paris Fashion Week: Kanye had to be in attendance at his BFF Riccardo Tisci?s fashion show! These are photos from last night?s Givenchy show at Paris Fashion Week ? Kim and Kanye were the biggest celebrities there, although when I was just glancing through the photos, I thought Ciara was Kim (they have the same hair now).
Kim wore Givenchy, of course, and it was NOT flattering. I just a read a story in Us Weekly about Kim?s post-baby diet and how she?s so proud of herself because she?s lost all but 10 pounds of her ?baby weight?. A week ago, I might have believed her. But in this dress? Not so much. I mean, it?s her business and it?s only been three months, it?s absolutely normal that she hasn?t lost the weight. But let?s not pretend that she?s almost back down to her ?size 2?. I think what?s hurting in this dress is the crap at the waist ? it?s adding bulk, right? And that leg slit is doing her no favors either.
Yesterday, some of you had questions about whether Kim is breastfeeding North West, or whether Kim is treating her baby just like she treated poor Mercy the Kitty. Radar had an interesting story about that:
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West arrived in Paris Saturday morning without their daughter, North, and the decision to leave her home in L.A. wasn?t an easy one for the new mom.
?Kim really wanted to take Nori to Paris but Kanye insisted that it wasn?t a good idea because of his issues with photographers,? a source close to the couple tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. ?He thought it was too dangerous. He also wanted Kim all to himself for a few days. He said they needed to spend time together as a couple away from her family,? the source added.
That caused a major dilemma for Kardashian, who has been breast feeding her four-month-old daughter.
?Kim had wanted to continue breast feeding for another two months,? the source reveals. ?She considered taking a breast pump with her to Paris and having either an assistant flying the milk back to L.A. or shipping it back by FedEx. Kanye thought that was ludicrous, and as usual he got his way,? the source says.
After a visit to the offices of Givenchy Saturday afternoon, the couple took a high speed train to London for some meetings. They were back in Paris Sunday morning in time for West to be seen in the front row of the Celine show.
?Kanye has set up multiple meetings with Chanel, Celine and Givenchy to design a new post pregnancy wardrobe for Kim. He thinks this is a prime opportunity for her to re-vamp her image,? the source tells us.
?Kim is also hoping to discuss wedding dress designs while in Paris,? the source says.

Hahaha, like Kim would wear Chanel for her (THIRD) wedding. Like Karl Lagerfeld wasn?t actively trolling her with that CR Fashion Book photoshoot. Like Karl would EVER. No, let?s face it: if and when Yeezus marries Kim, she?ll be wearing Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. And she?ll look like a couch, because Tisci is A) not a great designer and B) passive-aggressive. As for the breast-feeding stuff? this article aims to be Kardashian-sympathetic, but it really doesn?t sound like Kim put up any kind of fight about leaving the baby at home. Probably because Kim was bored out of her mind and in need of some good old-fashioned famewhorin?.

Taylor Swift covers the November issue of Glamour UK. I don?t hate the shoot, but I?ve seen it all before. This 1960s-styling has become a default for many of Swifty?s editorials, and she definitely plays it up. I like it, it suits her, but it?s getting slightly boring at this point. As for the interview, Swifty comes across? well, you know I?ve always had a hard time making my peace with Swifty?s 23-going-on-13 imagery versus her rather mature, business-like marketing strategy, and this interview is a good example of that. She talks about boys because she always talks about boys. But she also shades One Direction fan-girls, self-obsessed celebrities and Miley Cyrus. These quotes are fascinating:
Swifty on dealbreakers: ‘Here?s what I?ve learned about deal-breakers. If you have enough natural chemistry with someone, you overlook every single thing that you said would break the deal.’

Swifty is being surprisingly generous to Miley Cyrus, right? I mean, Taylor managed to make that Miley quote into something Swifty-specific, but there are layers of shade embedded in the comment too. It?s like Taylor is telling Miley: everyone is making fun of you and maybe you deserve it but no one is perfect and it?s important to remember that this too shall pass. I think? That?s how I interpreted it. As for ?Either way you?re obsessed with yourself and I?m not? ? does she think it?s just as easy as declaring that she?s not self-obsessed and that?s it? I think Taylor has some good parts, don?t get me wrong ? she has a charitable heart and she is lovely and gracious to her fans. But she?s just as much of a narcissistic whack-job as every other celebrity.

Here are some new photos of Christina Hendricks at a private fundraiser for The Rape Foundation. It was the ‘Annual Brunch To Benefit The Rape Treatment Center & Stuart House’. For this outing, Christina wore this floral dress which? I mean? ugh. I love her, I really do. I want her to look amazing every time I see her. I want to know it?s possible for a curvy lady with enormous boobs to look good in quality clothes. But I really worry that Christina doesn?t know how to dress for her figure. A bold print like this works on slender women, but on Christina? she looks like a mural. She looks like a couch.
I decided to talk about Christina because we still haven?t discussed the fact that AMC and Matthew Weiner have decided to split up the last season of Mad Men. SO MUCH MEGAN. You know it will be even more Megan Draper, spread out across a year a half. And I?m not sure I can do it. Basically, the seventh and final season is going to be split into two halves, the first half airing next year and the last half airing in 2015. They?re also adding one or two episodes to the final season. Weiner said: “We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience.”
This move actually makes me dislike Weiner and Mad Men even more ? you know how much I hated the last two seasons of The Megan Show or Don Draper Slips Into Alcoholic Oblivion. Slate had a good piece on why the split season makes good financial sense, but it reminds me of what they did to The Closer?s final season, which was incidentally THE WORST season. TV creators try to jam in all of this crazy sh-t into the final season and it?s a money grab, and the result is that the last season of a beloved show is rather aimless and stupid. I?m assuming that?s what will happen here.

I know some of you feel weird about discussing Gwen Stefani?s latest pregnancy, but seriously, she?s pregnant again. In Touch Weekly first reported Gwen?s pregnancy in early September, and nearly every site has confirmed it through unnamed sources (probably Gwen?s rep). We still don?t know how far along she is, but she is pregnant and her lack of any kind of formal or informal denial of the stories means that we can discuss it.
So, these are some photos of Gwen?s small bump over the weekend. She wore a tight dress/tunic thing with leggings, and in profile you can see that her normally flat abdomen has a tiny little bump. My guess? She?s maybe three or four months along. Gwen and Zuma (her youngest) were attending a friend?s baby shower. Did you realize that Kingston is 7 years old and Zuma is 5 years old? Time flies. Also, I haven?t seen any stories with guesses about the gender, but I have seen a few stories about Gwen hoping that this one is a girl. Which makes sense.
Anyway, Gwen looks happy and healthy and fit. I have my fingers crossed for her that everything goes well. And I do hope she and Gavin get their girl!
PS? Her shoes are especially ugly, right?
PPS? Do you think Gwen wraps her own gifts? I was going to say that the gift box looked professionally done, but Gwen seems like the kind of person who would take pride in being an especially good gift wrapper.

Here are some photos from the NY Film Festival premiere of the Coen Brothers? Inside Lleywn Davis. This film already premiered at the Cannes Film Festival back in May, but now they?re gearing up for the wide release of the film, so plan on seeing more of Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund. Unfortunately for all, Oscar Isaac was not at the premiere this weekend ? he?s THE STAR too. Carey and Garrett are just supporting players.
Anyway, Carey wore this cute little black dress with some kind of built-in gilded choker. You know who could have pulled this off? Naomi Campbell. In fact, I?m pretty cute Naomi has at least five versions of this dress. On Carey, it does look a little bit like someone forced her to wear it ? she?s slouching and she just looks uncomfortable with exposing that sliver of skin at her waist. But I do love her newly brunette hair ? she?s gone back and forth between blonde and brunette throughout her career, and she?s one of those rare people who looks good as both, I think.
I?m also including photos of Carey?s husband Marcus Mumford (of Mumford and Sons) and Garrett Hedlund. Surprisingly, Garrett looked very pulled together, handsome and clean at this event (usually he looks like he just rolled out of bed at his commune). His hair flip made me chuckle. Also: I really do think he and Kiki Dunst are on the rocks. But we?ll see. Kirsten wasn?t there to support him, which is weird because she usually comes out to support him.

Rihanna covers the November issue of Glamour with a total poker face. This has been RiRi’s standard expression ever since the VMAs where she looked profoundly unimpressed with Miley Cyrus’ attention-seeking antics. Glamour hasn’t released any excerpts or the editorial yet, but they’ll probably surface soon enough. The “learning to be fearless again” headline sounds promising for an interview. This cover is rather different than what we’ve come to expect from Rihanna, who loves a good weave but has been going with a more natural curl lately.
The last time I covered Rihanna, a lot of you were surprised I didn’t mention her latest Twitter feud. I had missed the festivities because Rihanna had already deleted those tweets. Tweeting and deleting is so Kanye West, right? Thankfully Us Weekly has the scoop on Rihanna’s mean girling of Teyana Taylor:
And the claws come out! On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Rihanna got into her latest Twitter tussle, this time with up-and-coming singer Teyana Taylor. The war of words escalated quickly after Taylor, 22, posted a video of herself covering Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture.”
Moments later, Rihanna tweeted an Instagram video of her hairstylist Yusef with a wig, snapback and sneakers (in an obvious jab at Taylor’s style), singing the exact same song. An irate Taylor then took the pair’s beef public in a series of since-deleted angry tweets.
“Don’t play wit me Rihanna,” she warned. “F–k all this industry s–t, YOU & I know each other VERY well. Throwing subs 4 wat? U got my #, don’t show off.”
Before the “Diamonds” singer could even respond, however, her legions of fans jumped to her defense, calling Taylor out for what they deemed a major offense.
Taylor held her own, however, tweeting that “y’all could bully everybody else & get away wit that sh-t but that sh-t ain’t one work ova here. so y’all could miss me with that NAVY sh-t.”
When Rihanna finally did reply, she was no less apologetic, telling Taylor (and her more than 31 million followers) that she “refuses” to help the other singer’s career.
“You will NOT get an @ from me! Not till you pay me!” she wrote, using the hashtags “no more free promo” and “I refuse.”
The pair pulled no punches in the conflict, with Rihanna first changing her Twitter background to the website Celebrity Net Worth, which noted Taylor’s assets at $500,000 versus Rihanna’s at $90 million. Taylor responded with her own background change, to a poorly photoshopped image of her as a boxer laying into Rihanna.
Both singers have since returned their Twitter pages to their regular settings and deleted the vast majority of the feuding tweets, though Rihanna still has a few errant tweets left over from the online shouting match.

“I hate broke bitches.” How classy. I’m sure Rihanna was sitting around and acting like a square and not smoking a bowl while acting like an a-hole to a fellow singer and budding pop star. Comparing one’s own monetary worth to another’s is probably really hilarious when you’re baked. LOL. Why does Rihanna lower herself to such rude tactics? This isn’t going to help her keep fans any more than showing up four hours late to concerts will do. Rihanna might be riding high (har har) now, but we’ll see how she fares in a decade if she keeps this behavior going.

Consider this your periodic Katie Holmes news dump since we don’t write about her that much anymore. She’s been keeping to herself lately by enjoying girls nights out in NYC and holding it together professionally in her own way. Katie is currently designing her own Bobbi Brown make-up line, which is weird because she rarely ever bothers with make-up unless she’s at an event. These are photos of Katie at the opening of the new TAO nightclub in NYC. She went casual in jeans, a striped jacket, and a belly shirt. She’s having fun, and her hair looks great.
Current “it girl” Emily Ratajkowski was also in attendance too. I have such a girl crush on her.
In a strange clash of worlds, Michael Shannon showed up. Mr. Supervillain wore a bright blue polo shirt and looks very orange.
Katie’s movie career is also on a bit of an upswing too. I am not convinced that her two most recently filmed projects, Mania Days (the wet t-shirt movie) and Miss Meadows (the cute outfits movie), will go anywhere at all. There’s some good news though — Katie just signed onto a Meryl Streep movie called The Giver:
Katie Holmes has closed a deal to join Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges in The Giver, a drama from The Weinstein Co. and Walden Media that’s being directed by Phillip Noyce.
Brenton Thwaites is the young star of the sci-fi project, which tells of a society in which there is no conflict, racism or sickness.
Thwaites plays a young boy who is selected for his life service as the Receiver of Memories and works with The Giver (Bridges), an old man who teaches the boy to use his unique gifts of the senses. Streep is the society’s Chief Elder, an authoritative and antagonistic woman who assigns the young their tasks.
Holmes will play Thwaites’ mother, a strict obeyer of the laws that govern what is described as an antiseptic society.
The movie, which is eyeing a budget of around $25 million, is being produced by Nikki Silver of Tonik Productions along with Neil Koenigsberg and Bridges.
Michael Mitnick wrote the most recent script adapting the Lois Lowry YA novel.
A shoot in South Africa is being planned, although it is likely that Steep will shoot her scenes in England, where she is filming Disney’s Into the Woods.

This sounds like an excellent career decision on Katie’s part. Her role isn’t too big and doesn’t sound demanding, but with Meryl and Jeff Bridges on board, people will actually watch this movie.
