The flurry of sugary tweets about Brad Pitt last night have me wondering if Brad is paying for pro-Pitt bots, much like Johnny Depp and the Cambridges seem to be paying for their online support. It was so immediate and so cloying. Even if you?re genuinely a Brad Pitt fan, surely you have to admit that the ?support? for him seemed weirdly over-the-top? Especially given that the man reportedly abused at least one of his children, and whose ex-wife recently told the court that she will offer proof of his domestic violence? Even for a white guy in Hollywood, Brad seems especially bulletproof, to a crazy degree. He really is prom king and no one will ever knock him off that pedestal.
Anyway, yes, Brad put in an appearance at the Oscars. He won Best Supporting Actor last year, so he returned this year to present the Best Supporting Oscar to Minari?s Youn Yuh-jung, who said something about how it was nice to ?meet? him. Which is funny because? technically speaking, Brad executive produced Minari. Had he not met the cast before now? People Magazine claims Brad ?teared up? watching her speech too.
Less than two weeks ago, Brad was seen leaving a medical center in a wheelchair. Brad?s team claimed he had his wisdom teeth removed. But his fresh face tells a different story. People were also talking about his ?man bun.?

For me, Amanda Seyfried?s Armani gown might be a victim of the dreaded post-Oscar hangover. On the carpet last night, I was convinced that it was a great look, one of the best looks of the night. In the cold light of Monday morning, I?m not so sure? It was a big look and it was sure? red. She seemed very happy with it and her styling was impeccable. But the dress itself? I don?t know, maybe it isn?t so great after all. I think we?re all just starved for drama and big fashion moments. There?s just so much tulle!!
Tyler Perry also wore Armani to the Oscars, where he picked up his Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. I?ll admit that I zoned out during his speech because I was thinking about how he helped the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last year, how he provided them with security when Prince Charles yanked their royal protection, and how he let Harry, Meghan and Archie stay at his LA home. While it is without a doubt that Tyler is incredibly deserving of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, people had some issues with his ?let?s meet in the middle? speech. I get it. But whatever, he still employs hundreds/thousands of Black creators and Black talent. He?s not a politician. I don?t think he?s trying to be, either.

I?ll give Halle Berry some credit she was easily one of the ?big moments? of what was otherwise a rather dry Oscar red carpet and ceremony. Halle attended the Oscars as a former winner and presenter, and she wanted to shake things up. She posted this photo about an hour before she arrived on the red carpet, in what would be a preview of her new look:

Margot Robbie, as always, has some kind of contract with Chanel which ensures that she wears Chanel at all of the major red carpets. Ever since she got that contract, she?s been using it as an excuse to phone it in! Chanel gives her the most boring gowns and her styling is kind of terrible. I mean, I love her, she?s a very talented actress and an amazing producer focused on female storytelling and female directors and that?s all great. But lord, she looked like hell at the Oscars! The frazzled hair and the thick, shaggy bangs? it?s awful. And she literally just threw her hair back in a limp, low ponytail!!

Laura Dern has had some doozies when it comes to her fashion. She doesnt take calculated fashion risks that pay off sometimes, nor does she always wear fug looks. She skirts that line between decent and fug looks which arent even fun. Last night she was in an Oscar de la Renta gown which was just like a too-long black turtleneck paired with a full feather skirt. It was bad, her presenting was tiresome, and her styling was off. It looked like she got her hair curled and set without a brush through. Theres no rhyme or reason to her look but thats often the case.
Laura hit the red carpet with her buddy Reese Witherspoon and they were super annoying when they were interviewed on ABC ahead of the ceremony. I completely agree with this comment on Twitter that those two are Absolutely the two girls who tell you the night before prom that they totally forgot to tell you there?s no more room in the limo. Reeses presenting was also a bit cloying. She did the animation categories. Reese was in Dior, in a crimson chiffon gown with a magenta accent. This is a rather classic gown and it needed a little something, but I dont think the belt is right for it at all. It looks like an afterthought.
Olivia Colman was in London and she was also in Christian Dior. This didnt occur to me until Anthony Hopkins accepted his award later, but it was super early in the morning in London! They must have been completely exhausted over there. Theyre six hours ahead of EST so they ended at 5:30 in the morning. This gown is a bit frumpy but I like the clean belt and I also think that Olivia elevates anything she wears. Her husband is really cute and they were cute together on screen.

I didn?t really have any fashion expectations for Oscar-nominated Best Actress Carey Mulligan. The last time she did an awards season, it was 2010 and I still remember how twee she went with her fashion and styling. More than a decade later, she?s married to Marcus Mumford, she?s a mom and she seemed pretty pleased with Promising Young Woman. She really worked to promote it, and she even engaged in some Oscar campaigning. But even then, I wasn?t expecting THIS moment, where she went Full Oscar in a bold, gold Valentino gown with a bandeau top. This feels so out of character for her! But I like that she went for it, and honestly, she pulled it off? This gown was a big moment on a somewhat scattered red carpet and Valentino got the shade of gold right. This is the perfect tone/hue for a white woman with blonde hair. If they had gone a shade lighter, they would have washed her out. A shade darker and it would have been too jarring. I also love that she?s happy enough to bring her husband Marcus Mumford out as her date! It?s nice to see them do a red carpet together.
Zendaya also got a Valentino bandeau-top dress, although hers seemed more like a party dress than an Oscar gown. Nice stuff: Zendaya is really beautiful and young, which means she can make some weird fashion look cool; the color is beautiful and bold; you could tell that she liked her look a lot. Bad stuff: this IS more of a party dress than an Oscar dress, and I think the actual design and construction of the dress is kind of terrible. If she had changed into this for the Vanity Fair Oscar party, it would have been fine. But for the Oscars? Nah.
