Miranda Kerr covers the February issue of Harper?s Bazaar. I always wonder why this kind of thing happens. I mean, it?s the February issue, it?s always going to be released in early to mid-January, during the heat of the Oscar season. You?d think that some potential Oscar-nominated actress would get the February cover, right? But no. Instead we get Miranda. And the photoshoot ? which you can see here ? was done by Terry Richardson. Gross. I was going to skip covering this completely, but then I read some of the quotes from the piece. You can read the full Bazaar interview here. Highlights:
She sleeps with a healing crystal every night: “It’s rose quartz. And then I clear it with the energy of the sun or the moon every three days.”
The rumors about her dating life: Depending on the day, Justin Bieber and Bloom are fighting over her, or she’s dating Tom Cruise, Steve Bing, or a buffet of L.A. modelizers. “Some of the stuff that gets written, there’s not one bit of truth to it,” she says. “Not even a smidgen! But if you worry about what other people think, it’s just a downward spiral.”
She actually isn?t dating much: “I’ll go on a date here and there if it works. But at this point my priority is my son. I’m not looking for a relationship. I’m just not.”
Her relationship advice: “Men don’t want to be disrespected, and women feel the best when they feel cherished. So if a woman is feeling cherished, she will respect a man, and if a man’s feeling respected, he will cherish a woman. It doesn’t need to be complicated. You know, for a long time I had it the wrong way. I was constantly doing, doing. Giving, giving for my partner. But what works is not feeling like you have to be everything to everyone.”
How to prepare for a date: “What really works is to spend 15 minutes and focus on feelings and moments that have made you feel really good. Remember those moments so you can build up a positive force field around you.”
Should a girl ever call a guy: “I don’t believe in that. I believe in the man chasing the girl, but that’s just me personally.” Texting? “I think a woman should respond but not reach out.” Wardrobe? “Something that you feel good in. Also, if you’re wearing good underwear?even if no one knows about it?it gives you that extra boost of confidence.”
Sex on the first date? “My philosophy is that until you get to know them it’s better not to, because energetically as a woman you get attached. So you’re better off to go on a few dates and see if you want to get attached or not.” Kerr cites the concept of circular dating: seeing a few men at a time and keeping all options open until you’re sure a man is worth it. The idea is about saving ladies from investing in unsuitable men. “If you are not sleeping with someone, then I think it’s okay to go on a date with this one and that one.” But when you start sleeping with one, it’s sayonara to your other suitors? “Correct!” she says, laughing. And, finally, back to those tabloids, should two men fight over a woman? She rolls her eyes. “I don’t know. Leave it up to them! It’s not really her problem.”

The tabloids would have you believe that Aussie millionaires are fighting over Kerr in the street, while Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber have petty girlfights in Ibiza bars. So? does that mean that Miranda is handing out smart relationship advice? No, she?s not. I think it?s silly for Miranda Kerr ? a supermodel! ? to try to hand out dating advice to the peasants. That being said, I don?t think she?s as aggressively judgy and elitist like Gwyneth Paltrow. Miranda is just sort of daffy and out of touch. *cleans cleansing crystal with the light of the moon*

Sienna Miller’s career resurgence continues. She’s talked a lot about how directors take her more seriously since she dumped her tabloid persona. Sienna has several movies in the can, and now she’ll be hitting Broadway. For real! The Roundabout Theater Co. announced Sienna as Emma Stone’s replacement in Cabaret. Sienna’s “messy” energy feels perfect for Sally Bowles. A few years ago (on a catty day), I may have said she was Sally Bowles. Here are the details:
The last Sally Bowles has been found.
Sienna Miller will star alongside Alan Cumming?s Emcee for the final six weeks of Roundabout Theatre Company?s hit revival of Cabaret on Broadway, replacing current headliner Emma Stone (who herself replaced the revival?s original star Michelle Williams).
Miller takes over the role of Sally Bowles on Feb. 17. (Stone?s last day is Feb. 15.) She?ll appear in the Studio 54 production through the show?s final performance on March 29.
It?s a return to the Roundabout for Miller, who made her Broadway debut in the company?s production of After Miss Julie in 2009. The actress is also on screen currently in both American Sniper and Foxcatcher.

This is obviously a good career move for Sienna. She’ll be the last Sally for this Cabaret run and be able to leave a lasting impression. I’ve never heard Sienna sing (she did reportedly sing in an audition), but Sally Bowles isn’t supposed to be a great singer. I wonder if Tom Sturridge will come to NYC for these six weeks. Their relationship seems very drama free, which is unusual for Sienna. Maybe she really has changed. I suspect she’s simply cleaned up her act in public.

God help me, I still think Ethan Hawke is gross-hot. Like, I completely understand when people say that he?s gross, that he?s smug, that he?s arrogant, that his facial hair is weak, all of it. And I agree. But I still find him attractive. UGH I have issues, I know. These are photos of Ethan out and about in NYC this week ? he?s still promoting Boyhood, plus some other projects I think. Tell Us how to get on that list! Ethan Hawke revealed to USA Today on Tuesday, Jan. 6, that he and his Taking Lives costar Angelina Jolie still keep in touch — via holiday cards!
“Every now and then, I get a Christmas card,” the Boyhood actor, 44, told the paper.
He then reflected on what it was like to work alongside Jolie over ten years ago, before she had even started her romance with now-husband Brad Pitt. In 2003 (when Taking Lives was filmed), Jolie had recently filed for divorce from Billy Bob Thornton and was raising her eldest son Maddox, then 2, on her own. A year later, the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider actress would meet the love of her life Pitt, with whom she would eventually share six children.
“I worked with her at a very interesting moment in her life,” Hawke, 44, recalled. “It?s pretty awesome what she?s doing. People wanted her to be Marilyn Monroe. They wanted her to burn out. She was about as punk rock as a movie star could be. I loved her for it.”
Hawke praised the Unbroken director for her work as a humanitarian. “She?s taken all that energy and turned that into being a substantive human being,” the Before Sunrise star noted. “The fact that Angelina has transcended the way the world objectified her and is making serious films, she deserves all the positive things that are happening.”

Aw. That?s really nice. I don?t have any shade for what he said. And I agree that Angelina was pretty punk rock? back in the day. I don?t think she?s punk at all these days. Then again, I don?t think she wants to be punk. So, did Ethan and Angelina have a thing back in the day? He always talks about her and he still has such nice things to say about her, consistently. Does that prove that they never bumped uglies?
Also, I would love to see Angelina?s Christmas card.

Jennifer Lopez is all over the place promoting her upcoming film, The Boy Next Door, which is out on January 23. Judging from the cheesy ads I’ve seen, it’s a thriller in which her older sexy character has an affair with a teen neighbor boy who turns obsessive. Also the 15th season of American Idol just premiered on Wednesday. I expect to see Lopez hustling hard in the coming weeks, which she’s always done.
In a new interview with E!, Lopez explains that she didn’t use a body double for the sex scenes and that “It was all me.” She also called those scenes “embarrassing” and “uncomfortable,” but her costar, Ryan Guzman, praised how well she kept him at ease.
Of course Lopez didn’t need a body double at all because she’s got an incredible figure which she surely busts her butt to maintain. So many of us would love to know how she does it. Well now Lopez is capitalizing on that. She’s launched a new “health and fitness program” called Bodylab in which she’s shilling protein shakes and supplements. Their tagline is “Be The Girl of Your Dreams.” Of course she’s couching all of this in empowerment language and she admits that she works hard, but it’s still disappointing to me that she’s doing this. Here’s how she explained it to Good Morning America:
Bodylab is a line of supplements and protein shakes and all kinds of things where you can enhance your workout. You know, you have to work hard. There?s no like, magic pill. I?m very much about women, women empowerment, being the best you. Different things about our metabolism that is totally different from men. A lot of the supplements out there are made for men. We just want to look good. We want to be hot.

After that she drank a protein shake from her new line and claimed it gave her energy. Food will do that for you. Protein shakes are one thing, but I checked out the Body Lab website and they’re selling week long “cleansing” shakes and “fat burning” pills with pseudoscientific claims. Here’s part of the description for “Thermodynamic TotalBurn,” “Total Burn is designed to switch a woman?s body into fat-breakdown mode in order to preferentially burn away her body fat ‘sinks’ and use them for fuel. This helps us lose weight in the form of actual fat mass.” So there’s no, like, magic pill but there is a pill that claims to “preferentially” burn fat and “switch a woman’s body into fat-breakdown mode.” Also, the “7-Day Ultra Fast Slim Kit,” which is the first product on the page incidentally, claims to be “the ultimate way to cleanse and detoxify the female body and kick-start the fat-burning process.” There are asterisks after many of the these claims which lead to a disclaimer that they have “not been evaluated by the FDA.”
This system sounds very similar to Isagenix, a diet shake program that two of my friends have tried with no success. It bothers me that a celebrity is endorsing a diet shake, but of course many other celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow have endorsed cleanses and shakes. Goop just did it with a higher price point.

Jennifer Aniston has a new interview in the New York Times. It?s actually a decent read, mainly because I didn?t have to stop and bang my head against the table as Jennifer whined about the tabloids again. In this piece, she actually avoided several linguistic traps designed to get her to say something negative about Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt (or both). Having read the whole piece, I have to say: it?s pretty clear that that the NYT is still interested in the Uncool Bermuda Triangle. But I?ll give Aniston a slow clap this time for not engaging. She also talks about her giant engagement ring, which I personally think looks like a cloudy quartz, and how God sent her Justin Theroux. Sure. Why not? The Cloak of Rachel: She recognizes this moment as perhaps her best chance to ?take away the cloak of Rachel,? she said, referring to her part on the sitcom ?Friends?? I noted that a reviewer for The Guardian had called ?Cake? a showcase for her ?hitherto hidden acting chops.? ?Hmm, yes, very deep underneath,? she said of these ostensibly buried gifts, adding that the notion was ?kind of head-scratching ? Wow?.?
Fighting for those darker parts: ?You have to do something really dark to be taken seriously, I guess. If you?re in someone?s living room every week for 10 years and every day on God knows what network, people are going to have a hard time saying, ?O.K., we?re going to see you do what now?? without making associations. It?s a Catch-22. It?s like: ?I know I can play this part, you just have to let me.? And then it?s ?I can?t let you play that part, because I?ve never seen you do it.? There were jobs that I really wanted and would fight and fight for and then the obvious previous Oscar winners would get them.?
Tabloids pitting her against Angelina Jolie: ?It?s ridiculous ? that the two names have to go into the same sentence and there has to be a compare-and-despair thing.?
The mention of Jolie?s waning Oscar chances & the Sony Hack: Ms. Aniston beat back any discussion of that. ?I don?t want to give any fuel to the fire,? she said. She is practiced and game enough to permit 30 seconds of conversation about Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt. But a full minute is pushing it. Her posture stiffens.
Her first boyfriend died of a brain tumor a few years ago: ?He was my first love ? five years we were together,? she said, referring to that boyfriend. ?He would have been the one. But I was 25, and I was stupid. He must have sent me Justin to make up for it all.?
Her giant engagement ring: ?It?s a rock, I know,? she said, sounding abashed but not really. ?He rocked it up. It took me a while to get used to it. I?m not a diamond girl. I?m more Indian jewelry and stuff.? I noted the din of speculation about why she and Mr. Theroux hadn?t tied the knot yet, and she said they?re still figuring out what kind of ceremony they want. She didn?t volunteer any more detail than necessary.
The media & sexism: ?You don?t see a lot of men getting asked: ?Why aren?t you married? Why aren?t you having children?? You don?t get the ?Well, they seem to play the same thing over and over again,? and some of them do. We?re very much a sexist society. Women are still not paid as much as men?I?ve been up against that in negotiations myself.?
On Renee Zellweger?s new face: ?There was a big whistle blown out on her, and it was unnecessary. Did she really look that different? Would she walk into a room and you?d say, ?Who is that?? That?s Rene, from here on down.? Ms. Aniston made a sweeping motion starting just below her eyes. ?You can?t hide those pouty little lips. I really do think you?re damned if you do and damned if you don?t. You either are too fat ? ?Oh my God, she?s gained weight, getting chubby, mid-40s spread!? ? or ?She?s so skeletal, get some meat on her bones!? I?ve been on too-thin lists. I?ve been on what-happened-to-her lists.?

The NYT also says that Aniston has been diligently ?following the media script of a publicist known as an Oscar whisperer,? which is what we already knew but it?s nice to see the paper of record pointing it out. As I said, I don?t really have any criticism for how Aniston handled the Angelina questions ? it was clear that the NYT pressed her on those subjects and she tried to shut them down without giving them a pull quote headline (haha, I’m still using it!!!). No, the only thing that bugs me is the Zellweger part ? I do think Renee looked that different, and I don?t think media outlets were wrong in simply NOTICING that Renee looked different.

Here are some assorted photos of Charlize Theron out and about in LA this week. She went out to dinner with Sean Penn at Craig?s several nights ago, and she was with her son Jackson at what looks like his preschool yesterday. Charlize doesn?t have any films coming out at the moment, although she is scheduled to do the sequel/prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman at some point. The prequel will be called The Huntsman, and Chris Hemsworth is going to star as well, but Kristen Stewart is definitely out. I?m pretty sure director Rupert Sanders got pushed out as well. So, the film will mainly star Charlize and Chris. And as it turns out, Chris was going to be paid a lot more than Charlize. Then the Sony Hack happened and Charlize demanded equal pay with Chris. And she got it!
After the Sony hack revealed the ugly truth about unequal pay for women in Hollywood, Charlize Theron is taking a stand. She insisted that she be paid the same as her male co-star Chris Hemsworth in their upcoming movie, ?The Huntsman.?
Hollywood sources tell Page Six that standing up for her worth paid off for Theron, who negotiated via her agents at WME. She got a deal worth more than $10 million, the same as Hemsworth.
One source said, ?Charlize insisted that she get paid the same money as Chris. She has a great track record, so she got the same deal.? Another insider added: ?One knock-on effect from the Sony hacking scandal is that there will be more sensitivity about equal pay for actresses and hiring practices at movie studios.?
?The Huntsman,? a Universal picture, is a prequel to 2012?s ?Snow White and the Huntsman,? with Hemsworth and Theron reprising their roles of huntsman Eric and evil queen Ravenna. The film, directed by Frank Darabont, is in pre-production and will be released in April 2016. The deals were handled carefully because of the drama surrounding the first movie after star Kristen Stewart was caught having an affair with director Rupert Sanders. It resulted in Sanders? divorce from wife Liberty Ross and his being dropped from directing the sequel. Despite the scandal, the film was a hit, with $396.5 million at the global box office. Stewart is not in the new movie because it doesn?t involve her character.
The salary move comes after hacked Sony e-mails revealed that the female stars of ?American Hustle,? including Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams, earned less than their male co-stars Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper. A 2013 e-mail from Andrew Gumpert of Columbia Pictures, a Sony subsidiary, to studio chief Amy Pascal revealed Lawrence was paid ?7 pts? (7 percent of the movie?s profits) while Cooper, Bale and Jeremy Renner got 9 percent.
Reps for Theron, who is also believed to be getting a fair share of the new movie?s profits, didn?t get back to us.

I threw a side-eye at ?She has a great track record? because that?s not really true. Charlize was part of the reason SWATH did so well at the box office, but SWATH was only one of the very few financially successful films Charlize has done in the past five years. Still, I agree on principle that Chris Hemsworth and Charlize should be paid the same. I would even argue that Charlize is a bigger ?star? than Chris. Chris has his Marvel franchise, obviously, but he actually hasn?t proven that he can carry a large studio film if it doesn?t involve a built-in comic book audience. Charlize is more of a known quantity for a studio, plus she?s an Oscar-winner.
