Before she was Mousketeer or multiplatinum-selling artist and household name, Britney Spears was a 10-year-old aspiring singer who got her first taste of fame when she was on "Star Search."
Late Tuesday (June 23) after news broke that "Star Search" host, Ed McMahon, had died at the age of 86, Britney took to her Twitter page to remember the man who helped kick-start her career back in 1992. "I am deeply saddened by today's news about Ed McMahon. He is responsible for giving so many artists their first shot including myself," she wrote. "He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed."
On the show, she performed the Judds' "Love Can Build a Bridge," and while she didn't win, she did earn a spot on "The Mickey Mouse Club" a year later, alongside fellow past "Star Search" contestants Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
Many other celebrities took to their Twitter accounts on Tuesday (June 23) to react to McMahon's passing. Most celebrities like Alyssa Milano and Jon Favreau posted a simple "R.I.P.," while frequent Twitterer Ashton Kutcher wrote, "Rip Ed McMahon 'the original Hype man.' "
Other stars like Liev Schrieber described McMahon's passing as "a terrible loss." "I just remember him as such a lovely guy," Schreiber told "Entertainment Tonight." "Always had a smile for everyone. He was just the sweetest person — it's a terrible loss."

While celebrities do a lot of stupid things to themselves to get attention, I?ll never understand deliberately making yourself less attractive ? or even ugly, depending on your opinion ? just for a few more paparazzi snaps. But that?s exactly how desperate Carmen Electra is. The former model/dancer/whatever had nothing left to get attention (after all, she?d already married Dennis Rodman), so she did the only logical thing she could ? shave part of her head.
Half-shaved heads are the new black.
Former Baywatch babe Carmen Electra ? known for her lengthy locks ? is the latest celebrity C-lister to pull a chapter from the ?Book of Cassie? and adopt the half-shaved head look as her own.
Carmen debuted her new haircut ?which features sides of her head buzzed cut ? during a night out on the town earlier this month.

I gotta say, I?m not into Carmen?s look. Cassie?s head shaving incident was pathetic because it was so desperate, but she did look sorta hot in a way. I think it only works if you?re otherwise perfect ? and let?s be honest, few people, even celebs, are. And even then, it?s sort of a long shot. There are so many better ways to get some flash bulbs aimed at you. Go to the right restaurants, the cool clubs. Even if you get turned away, the damage is just to your ego and it?s fleeting. Shaving your head? I think Britney Spears can tell you: it takes over a year to look even semi-normal.

Yesterday, we reported on the plagiarism and copyright infringement lawsuit filed against Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her book The G-Free Diet. A woman named Susan Hasset claims that Hasselbeck pretty much lifted huge chunks of her 2008 book Living With Celiac Disease. At first, many people were kind of thinking ?oh, whatever.? I certainly did - until I read the affidavit TMZ got their hands on, which makes a really good case for Hasselbeck being a blatant plagiarist.
Elisabeth addressed the lawsuit on The View this morning in a very short statement. The women are talking about something else, then both Joy Behar and Whoopi stop talking and Whoopi motions to Elisabeth and says ?Yes, go Elisabeth.? To which Elisabeth says, (in my take) in a rather sarcastic way to Whoopi, ?Thanks for allowing me this moment?? Then Elisabeth launches into her explanation: ?This week a claim was filed with regard to my book The G-Free Diet, and I just want to assure you the allegations are without merit and are being handled appropriately. Thank you for allowing me to speak.? Without merit, eh? Right?
No worries, says Elisabeth Hasselbeck ? who took a brief moment during Wednesday’s The View to comment on the copyright infringement charge against her by a Massachusetts author.
“I just want to assure you the allegations are without merit and are being handled appropriately,” said Hasselbeck, 32, who has spoken openly about her self-diagnosed celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder linked to gluten proteins in wheat, barley and rye.
Hasselbeck’s book, The G Free Diet-A Gluten-Free Survival Guide, was published in May 2009 by Center Street Hachette Book Group. Crying foul, and seeking $3 million, is Susan Hassett, who claims that in 2008 she had sent Hasselbeck a copy of her own book ? the self-published Living with Celiac Disease ? along with a homemade cooking video, a newspaper story about celiac disease, her business card and a personal note.
The message expressed Hassett’s hope that Hasselbeck was well and noted that the TV personality was lucky to catch her celiac disease early. Hassett also offered to discuss her book with Hasselbeck in order to spread the word about celiac disease to her viewers. In return, she never received so much as a thank you, says Hassett.
Instead, Hassett claims Hasselbeck infringed on Hassett’s copyright by stealing her material “word for word” and copying the format of her book. In her lawsuit, filed Monday in Boston federal court, Hassett says she will donate a portion of whatever proceeds she receives from the suit to create a camp designed for children with celiac disease.
On Tuesday, a statement released on behalf of Center Street and Hasselbeck, said, in part, “There is no basis for the allegations in the Complaint as published in the press. Ms. Hasselbeck worked diligently and tirelessly on her book and is disappointed in this attempt to discredit her work and her ability to bring this important message to the public.”

Elisabeth?s statement was a bit too brief? my interpretation is that she knows that she was caught. I know that Barbara Walters is no longer any kind of paragon of journalism, but I do think that Babs should do an in-house investigation into these charges, and if Barbara thinks they have merit, Elisabeth should be fired.
I?m really starting to think all of this may be our fault for actually believing for a second that Elisabeth was smart enough to bang out a relatively smart book on a complicated disease. We let her down. When she originally released the book, all of us should have been like ?Oh, no? don?t believe it. There must be another explanation. The Elisabeth we know can barely read a book, much less write one.?

It’s about time Hilary Duff did something interesting. The last time I remember seeing her was when she was stuffing a scorpion down her pants in that horrible movie War Inc. She’s also been seen wandering the streets like much of the unemployed in Hollywood tend to do. Other than that, no regular person knows who she is anymore. According to The Sun, Hunter and Stoll were set to wed in a lavish, star-studded ceremony - but he called off the engagement and sent out an e-mail to guests, saying the wedding was off.
ROD STEWART?s ex-wife Rachel Hunter has been dumped by her toyboy sweetheart ? less than two months before they were due to wed.
Ice hockey star JARRET STOLL stunned the former model by walking out without even saying the reason.
He told guests by email that the star-studded ceremony on August 14 was cancelled, but still gave no explanation.
Last night a source close to Rachel said: ?She is absolutely devastated. Everything was in place for their wedding ? she had the venue, the designer dress, the guest list.
?She has absolutely no idea why Jarret has done this. It sounds like it could be a classic case of cold feet. He is a fair bit younger than her.?
The Los Angeles Kings player turns 27 today while Kiwi Rachel will be 40 in September.
Rachel, who has two children with Rod, also wanted to start a new family.
Her daughter Renee, 17, and son Liam, 14, are said to be ?in pieces? at the break-up ? especially Liam who is a keen ice hockey player.
Canadian Jarret proposed last August.
He and Rachel bought a 2.2million home in Hermosa Beach, California, and were due to tie the knot in front of guests including Michelle Pfeiffer and Sharon Stone.
Rachel married singer Rod in 1990. They separated nine years later but their divorce was not formalised until 2006.
The pair are still friends.
Rachel told a pal: ?Rod has been amazing through all of this ? a real support.?
When they met Rod had just been dumped by swimsuit model Kelly Emberg, angry he wouldn?t marry her.
After the split, Rachel?s romances included a 10-month fling with Robbie Williams in 2002.

Magazine all about how Jarret got down on one knee and proposed to her in front of her children and her mom, saying he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Days after sharing a romantic dinner together at Il Cantinori restaurant in Manhattan, Star has the scoop on the budding romance, including how Jen’s been bubbling to pals that she’s just so into the breakout star of the mega-smash movie The Hangover!
“Jen is really excited,” an insider says in our July 6 cover story. “She feels a connection to Bradley.”
That was clear during their June 18 dinner date. Throughout the three-hour meal, Jennifer, 40, and Bradley, 34, shared food and wine, laughed at one another’s jokes and acted like two kids falling in love. “I went over to say hi to them, and I noticed they were holding hands under the table because they let go to shake my hand,” an eyewitness at the exclusive restaurant tells Star.

Last week Jaybird reported on the drama surrounding Lindsay Lohan?s not-so-cryptic tweets about Justin Timberlake maybe cheating on Jessica Biel with some random girls at a club. After Lohan tweeted, she claimed that someone had hacked into her Twitter account, blah, blah, lie, not my fault, blah, crackhead, blah. Now Page Six has some of the behind-the-scenes drama regarding the incident.
Page Six reports that Justin Timberlake was in the club, getting hammered and dancing up a storm. I don?t even care for JT, but I?d imagine he would be a lot of fun to get drunk with, especially if he?s going to break dance. Seeing a drunk famous guy break dancing is like the Lohan Siren Call of Love, apparently, because Lindsay spied JT, and went over to him. Lindsay tried to dance with JT, but he ?shooed her away?. After that, JT was drunkenly ?cozying up? to a random brunette, which I suppose Lohan noticed. Thus, Lindsay tweeted that JT was a ?jb cheater?. However, according to the club owner, JT was just chillin? with his boys and ?was not doing anything with other girls.? And the club owner has the tapes to prove it:

According to an eyewitness, the singer was in party mode at Chelsea hot spot Avenue one recent night. “Usually Justin is pretty in control, but he was acting pretty crazy,” our spy tells Page Six. “He was drinking tequila all night. At one point, he cleared out a little space and started break dancing. He was bumping into people and spilling drinks. It was hilarious.”
Our source also says that at one point, Lindsay Lohan, currently off with on-again, off-again girlfriend Samantha Ronson, tried to dance with Timberlake, but “he shooed her away.”
But that didn’t stop Timberlake from later cozying up to an unidentified brunette partygoer. “It definitely wasn’t Jessica,” laughs our source. “He was pretty drunk.”
Later that night, Lohan ended up posting a thinly veiled message on her Twitter account, “where’s jb cheater” — seemingly referring to Timberlake’s girlfriend, Biel. The next day, she added, “Why do people cheat?” But she eventually backtracked, claiming that both messages had been sent by someone who’d hacked into her Twitter account.
Avenue owner Noah Tepperberg tells Page Six, “My partner, Danny A, was with Justin and a few of his guy friends the entire night, and I was within 15 feet of him the whole time he was there, and we know for sure he was not doing anything with other girls. He was having a good time with the guys, and came and left with them. I have surveillance cameras that show this to be the case and anything you are hearing is simply not true.”
A rep for Timberlake said, “I have no comment on my client’s personal life.”

I can?t believe I?ve managed to work up enough energy to care, but here goes: I think this report is probably pretty accurate. Even though I think Jaybird was probably right last week in her assessment of Biel and Timberlake?s relationship (that he is probably seeing other women), I doubt JT was hooking up with a girl in the club, in front of a bunch of people. I think Lohan probably tweeted about ?jb cheater? because JT shunned her while paying attention and flirting with other women. And I?m going to give JT some respect for shunning Lohan - even when he?s totally wasted, he?s still a good enough judge of character to recognize that Lohan is like the plague.

Former MTV reality star Nick Lachey and former "TRL" host Vanessa Minnillo have broken up after three years together, according to People.com.
"They have amicably split but remain good friends who still greatly care for one another," a rep for Minnillo told the magazine.
A rep for Lachey, a former member of 98 Degrees, also confirmed the news.
Lachey and Minnillo began dating in 2006, but rumors of a breakup had dogged the couple recently. Earlier in June, Minnillo told People that her relationship was "very much still on."
MTV News most recently caught up with Lachey, 35, and Minnillo, 28, in May on the red carpet at the Maxim Hot 100 party in Los Angeles, where the pair joked together and compared memories of their high school proms.
Lachey and Minnillo started a relationship after Lachey's high-profile 2005 split from wife Jessica Simpson. Following the breakup of his marriage, which had been chronicled on the MTV reality show "Newlyweds," Lachey released the first single off his solo album, "What's Left of Me." Minnillo starred in the video.
A source told People that Lachey and Minnillo are "still friends. It was the right thing for both of them to do."

Katie “dignified silence” Price just spent last week whoring around Ibiza with a spray-tanned male model while her estranged, spray-tanned husband took care of the couple’s two small children and had a teary reunion with his mother. It’s pretty clear who the media (myself included) is siding with in this split, since Katie can’t seem to stop acting like a total sleazebag ever since the couple announced their separation. The glamour model took to her Twitter account to call her ex the C-bomb and also defended all her recent partying by saying that she deserves to have fun after what she’s been though. Uh, pardon me, but when exactly has she NOT been partying- even before the split? And more importantly, who is taking care of Harvey?
JORDAN has lashed out at estranged husband Peter Andre in a foul-mouthed rant.
The glamour girl, real name Katie Price, used her Twitter page to vent her anger at her ex late last night, calling him a “true c***”.
Katie, 31, who has faced criticism over the last week for going on boozy nights out with new flame Anthony Lowther in Ibiza, wrote: “Loving Ibiza. Cant wait to see my children when there back from Cyprus!
“Pete being a true c*** to me! He left me nt me leave him (sic).”
Shortly afterwards another message was posted on her page which said it was from her pal.
It read: “This is Kates friend Julie. Kate is coping with things. This was not her decision an etting very unfair press (sic).”
Today the mum-of-three finally ditched her skimpy bikinis to jet back from Ibiza to London.
A bronzed Katie checked into the Spanish airport wearing ripped jeans and a bright yellow cardigan.
She later landed in Gatwick and was accompanied by a police community support officer as she walked through the airport.
In this week’s issue of OK! magazine, Katie defended her wild holiday antics.
She wrote in her column: “I’ve had a great time in Ibiza and people can slate me all they like.
“I work hard, I’m a good mum, I’m a young woman and I’m going through a split.
“There’s nothing wrong with going away and having a good time for a week after all I’ve been through.”
Meanwhile, Peter admitted he still loved his wife and said it was now too painful for him to watch their ITV2 reality show in his column in new! magazine.

So, let me get this straight. In addition to their new dueling reality shows, the Twitter pages, and the endless paparazzi and gossip stories, each of these dimwits also has their own magazine column? Ugh. This divorce can’t be over fast enough for me. Really, I think they’re both horrid people, but at least Peter seems to give the appearance of giving a crap about the children. If the divorce judge has any compassion, he’ll grant custody of the children to their nannies. They probably spend more time with them, anyway.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have released the names of their newborn twin girls, born Monday afternoon in Ohio. The names: Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge. Um? lovely. No, I?m not being judgy, those are very far from the worst celebrity baby names. I wonder if Marion is going to go my Mary? I wonder if Tabitha will go by Tabby. Maybe I?m warped because I grew up with an extreme cat-fancier mother, but don?t the little girls? names sound like cat names? I can totally see my mom naming her cats Tabitha, Marion and Loretta. SJP and Broderick?s rep says that Elwell and Hodge are family names? which, yes, they would have to be. I can?t see SJP sitting with the baby name book and yelling out ?Elwell! That?s the ticket!?
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have confirmed they welcomed their twins girls, via a surrogate, on Monday.
“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are delighted to announce the healthy arrival of their two daughters at 3:58 p.m. on June 22 in Ohio,” their rep tells Usmagazine.com in a statement.
“Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz., and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds,” the statement continues. “Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker’s side.”

As MSat reported yesterday, SJP and Matthew were in Ohio for the births, so my guess is that they, and the babies, are already on route to New York. SJP is probably going to spend the summer with the babies, then go to work this fall on the Sex and the City sequel. I just checked to see if SJP had any projects lined up for the summer, and it doesn?t look like she does. So at least we know all of those rumored fights about nannies were probably off the mark. I hope both SJP and Matthew stick around and really spend time with the babies. As for seeing the twin girls, I suspect SJP and Broderick will do the same thing they did with James Wilke - they?ll pose publicly for all of the paparazzi, so everyone gets a picture, and then that?s it.

In case we didn’t have enough reasons to love Johnny Depp, here’s one more. A waiter at a high end Chicago steakhouse who has served Depp several times says that he’s always low-key, friendly and extremely generous. The last time he waited on Depp, in a party that included his Public Enemies co-star Marion Cotillard and the director Michael Mann, Depp left him a whopping $4,000 tip. They were drinking $500 bottles of wine, but that still sounds like way more than 20%.

Mohammed A . Sekhani — a veteran waiter at Chicago’s legendary steakhouse Gibsons — told RadarOnline.com: ?Johnny and his party arrived just after 11.30pm at the restaurant and requested a private room. He had visited our restaurant several times before while he was filming Public Enemies and he promised me that he would return after the premiere.”
Sekhani says Depp and his party ordered appetizers like shrimp cocktails while they prepared his favorite dish Clams Casino ? which is clams baked with garlic, pepper and cheese.
Said Sekhani : ?He also ordered some $500 bottles of Italian wine and he was in good spirits throughout the evening chatting with Mr Mann and Miss Cotillard. I have worked with a lot of stars like Sean Connery and Robert De Niro but Johnny Depp is my favorite. He is a very soft spoken guy who is very charming and sweet ? when I wait for him he doesn?t like to be too fussed over and is not in any way demanding. ”
It’s not the first time Sekhani has waited on Depp. ?Because he had visited us before he calls me ?Mo? and I know exactly the way he likes to be treated. He may be one of the most famous actors in the world but he is a very ?humble guy? and a really cool dude. Obviously, I was delighted with his tip but he has always been very generous every time that he has visited us here at Gibsons.
When the party left around 2.30am he smiled and told me that he would return ? they were a great group of people.?

Radar is the first outlet with this story, and it’s not like Depp told anyone that he tipped that much - the waiter blabbed about it. This is really just an excuse to post these photos from the LA premiere of Public Enemies last night. Depp has gained a little weight for his role in the film The Rum Diary and he looks incredible as always. I even like his greasy-look hair and almost no one looks dignified with oily hair, but somehow Depp pulls it off. Also shown at the premiere are Marion Cotillard, Christian Bale, and LeeLee Sobieski.

In a move that will surprise no one, Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo have decided to break up. Back in April, there were a lot of rumors that their relationship was on the rocks, partially substantiated by Vanessa spending some very cuddly time with Matt Lanter from the new 90210. That one night also wasn’t the first time that there had been rumors of cheating and a breakup - ever since they began dating in 2006, there were consistent reports that they were no longer together. In April, Vanessa said that she and Nick were “very much still on,” but obviously that didn’t last long:

“They have amicably split but remain good friends who still greatly care for one another,” Minnillo’s rep tells PEOPLE of the couple, who began dating in 2006.
The split comes after a rash of breakup rumors and reports, which were shot down. Earlier this month Minnillo told PEOPLE that she and Lachey were “very much still on.”
Though they have split, a source says Minnillo, 28, and Lachey, 35, are “still friends. It was the right thing for both of them to do.”

There’s no telling what exactly it was that caused the breakup; it’s possible that her supposed cheating had nothing to do with it. But an interview in June, after the cheating incident, hinted at some trouble. Vanessa made several comments about marriage, including the size of her future hypothetical wedding ring (10 carats) as well as backing up her claims about the stability of their relationship by commenting that “Maybe this will be the one time I wind up the bride instead of the bridesmaid!” Sounds like someone was ready to walk down the aisle - and maybe Nick wasn’t.
When his show Newlyweds with Jessica Simpson was still on television, I watched it just to see Nick. I’ve never been a fan of his music or anything, but he’s a genuinely sweet, funny, patient guy, and entertaining in a very quiet way. So I don’t think that they broke up solely because he thinks she is the reason his career is nonexistent. In fact, I think the opposite is true - I always got the impression that he was like a deer in the headlights when it came to the cameras in his house, and being married to a star like Jessica. Vanessa, on the other hand, seems to love the spotlight. Maybe Nick just decided he needed someone a little more settled than Vanessa - or maybe Vanessa got tired of waiting for Nick. Either way, they clearly weren’t headed in the same direction.

Kim Kardashian has laid low for a while, but she is now back with her cleavage at the premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Kim definitely looks as good as ever! I know many people don’t care for the celebrity hottie, but for some reason, Kim Kardashian is my guilty pleasure. There are various reasons as to why that may be.
