Hard at work on a new project, Katie Holmes showed up in Manhattan?s trendy East Village neighborhood on Thursday night (September 19).
The ?Thank You For Smoking? star was in good spirits as she worked the camera in a red dress with a gold belt as she filmed a commercial for Oil of Olay.
And while the rest of her ensemble was totally classy, Katie elected to skip the heels and instead wore sneakers in order to stay comfortable during the long shoot.
In real estate news, Ms. Holmes and her daughter Suri Cruise recently relocated to the West Coast after purchasing a $3.795 million Calabasas, California home featuring six bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Jennifer Aniston was a smoker for many years. I?m not sure if she still smokes cigarettes, but guessing from a few recent interviews, I?d say that she still smokes the weed. Regularly. My guess is that she?s pretty much stopped with the ciggies and now she just smokes pot. Plus, she gets weird formaldehyde-based hair treatments that end up burning off her hair. On the other side, her PR-reinforced image is that of health, yoga, salad-eating and ?being natural,? complete with contracts with SmartWater, Aveeno and Living Proof. So, Aniston is a mixed bag of chemicals and health. So would you trust Aniston?s ?advice? on how to live without chemicals?
Jennifer Aniston really, really wants her cohorts to go green. During the shoot for ?Cake?, Jennifer ?tried to persuade the cast and crew to stop using products with chemicals,? a set source tells Hot Stuff. The offending items: Listerine mouth spray, soda and cigarettes.
?She?d say everything she uses is all-natural and she knows every product?s ingredients,? adds a second insider. She even brought in licorice root ? believed to be an herbal remedy for smoking. While her rep denies the story and says, ?Jennifer is not the type to push anything on anyone,? the insider says Aniston also proposed yoga and meditation, a combo she said she practices ?five days a week with Justin Theroux!?

I?ve tried to use Listerine in the past, but it makes my mouth feel like it?s dying. Anyone else? Now I just use Scope products and I don?t even care about chemicals. I drink soda too. I guess that means Aniston doesn?t want to be my friend or coworker. Too bad. That being said? I kind of believe that Aniston shills her ?natural? stuff to coworkers, then she goes home, lights up a spliff and pours formaldehyde on her hair.
Two more things? Aniston?s turn in Cake still hasn?t gotten a distributor, so maybe not so much with an Oscar campaign? Ha. And Living Proof released this behind-the-scenes video of their photoshoot. Some of her outfits are cute, but am I alone in thinking her hair looks bad in this video?

Here are some photos of Viggo Mortensen out and about in NYC this week. He?s been making the rounds to promote The Two Faces of January, that film he did with Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac. It looks like a decent-ish movie, but for me it will be a rental. I?m also pleased to see that Viggo isn?t so Nice ?N Easy caramel blonde these days ? remember these photos?
As I said, he?s been doing the promotional rounds, which included a boring interview on The Colbert Report, a stop by Sirius Radio and a really good interview with HuffPo. You can see the video here. Viggo was asked about the media, his politics and whether he ever listens to Rush Limbaugh.
Viggo Mortensen is all for reading things you don’t agree with to get a broader sense of the world, but he just can’t tolerate Fox News.
The actor dropped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday to discuss his new film “The Two Faces Of January,” and he got to talking with host Ricky Camilleri about media. Specifically, he doesn’t get why people use today’s “constantly evolving means of communicating” to “reinforce their own point of view.” Mortensen said he enjoys indulging in an alternative take, but some of it is particularly troublesome:
“I take an interest. I do listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Mike Savage, and I do watch Fox News once in a while. I can only take small doses of it because they’re so appallingly shallow and manipulative. … It’s like watching a really bad movie. It’s like watching an Ed Wood movie and going, ‘Wow.’ Well, now that’s an insult to Ed Wood, actually. But, you know, like a horror movie — just poorly made.”
That’s not to say that left-wing media outlets aren’t guilty of the same thing, but Mortensen feels conservative commentators tend to use an especially egregious method of presenting information.
“You can say that about so-called left-wing radio — it’s generally talking points as well. But I think there’s more of an effort to deal with facts, even if maybe there are sins of omissions and so forth on the left as well. It’s generally not as brazen of a form of lying as you get from Fox,” Mortensen said.

I?m a political leftie and I tend to get most of my news from PBS, NPR, MSNBC and sometimes CNN. I have to admit, I have a love/hate relationship with MSNBC at this point. I love Rachel Maddow and Melissa Harris Perry and I?m developing a nerd-crush on Steve Kornacki, but even then? sometimes I?m like, ?OK, I get it, you?re super liberal. Move on, you guys.? Then again, I watch Morning Joe in the mornings and conservative hack Joe Scarborough makes my blood boil. Watching him, I am filled with morning rage. It?s not the best way to wake up.
Anyway, I agree with Viggo ? the left-wing media outlets have their faults, but I?d still rather get my news from the lefties than from? Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. Of course, this morning I watched BBC America because that was literally the only news show covering the Scottish independence vote.

I never talked about Miley’s weird NYFW debut for her clothing line with Jeremy Scott. It wasn’t worth discussing. This is Miley’s pot-infused, faux-psychedelic idea of “fashion.” What’s sad is that someone will buy this clothing.
Miley’s in trouble off the runway. She’s a source of annoyance for her stunt-queen antics, but she’s kept herself on the right side of the law. Until now. Miley performed earlier this week in Monterey, Neuvo Leon. She did her usual twerkadelic routine with her tush hanging out everywhere. Then she strapped on a Nicki Minaj-esque booty, and her backup dancers spanked her with a Mexican flag. There’s a NSFW video (the smacking happens at 2:20ish) of this weirdness.
In another country, people may have rolled their eyes and written this stunt off as Miley begging for attention. Mexico doesn’t mess around with flag desecration. HuffPo reports that Nuevo Leon has issued a warrant on Miley. She could potentially go to jail for 36 hours. You know that won’t happen. She’ll probably have to pay a $1,200 desecration fine. TMZ points out that Paulina Rubio paid a $4,000 fine after wearing (only) the flag for a photo shoot.
Miley’s latest antics were in poor taste, of course. The show happened on Mexican Independence Day! If she knew about the holiday, she didn’t care. Miley only wanted to “shock” everyone with her rebellion. This routine is growing old.

Jada Pinkett Smith covers the October issue of Health Magazine to promote her role as villain Fish Mooney on the new series Gotham on Fox. Gotham tells the origin stories of well known DC characters including Batman, The Joker and Catwoman. It also stars Donal Logue (love him!) and Benjamin McKenzie as Gotham’s finest. Jada’s character is a new addition to the story. I saw a preview clip available on X-Box, and Jada was a little stiff in the role. Maybe she’s playing an over the top classic villian. Jada says as much in her Health interview. She also talks about the hands-off parenting style she practices with Will and she praises Angelina Jolie for helping her research human trafficking. (She has a documentary called Rape for Profit, which is available on iTunes. The companion website is Don’tSellBodies.org.) At one point, when she’s asked what she does to maintain her “amazing skin,” Jada omits some key details. Here’s more, thanks to Health, and you can read the entire interview on their website:
On her parenting style?
?I think we have to have more trust in our children. People have always gotten on us about not punishing the kids, and let me just talk to you about that for a minute. We raised three kids before Willow and Jaden, and especially on my goddaughter, I put so many boundaries on her??No, you can?t do that, you can?t do this.? And everything I tried to control, every freakin? thing I was trying to avoid, happened. I learned a lot from that experience and realized that while Willow and Jaden are still with me and have a safety net, I want to give them the opportunity to make mistakes and learn how to put boundaries on themselves. So by the time they?re out of the house, they fly.?
On what didn?t work for her character on Gotham?
?I went in for the table read and did this over-the-top Mid-Atlantic accent, like Joan Crawford. And Peter Roth from Warner Bros. called me that afternoon and said, ?Jada, I don?t know how to tell you this, I love you to death, but???
On Angelina Jolie?s support?
?Angelina Jolie and I, we?re not friends, but when I called her about my human trafficking endeavors, she went all in. And I really appreciated that because there are not a lot of times that you can call upon people in our business and get serious help. She put me in contact with the people I needed to be in contact with, she sent me books, sent me all the information she had. I?m not saying that Angelina and I are, like, girlfriends and kicking it every day, but when you call another woman who?s in a position to lend support to you and she just jumps right in there ? that?s sisterhood.?
On aging?

Asked: What do you do to maintain your amazing skin?
“Nothing supremely special. I get a facial maybe twice a year, and I drink a lot of water… [She spies Willow across the street, coming back from Whole Foods with a family friend, and waves.] “Willow got into alkaline water, and Jaden’s like, ‘Mommy, you can only drink distilled water.’ And I’m like, ‘Listen, I can’t keep up with you all, I just can’t. I’m cool with the tap water.’”
On her fitness regimen?
?It?s funny?my cardio workout varies. If I have a heavy carb week, I?ve got a heavy cardio week. I tell people all the time, ?You can eat whatever you want, as long as you?re willing to put the work in,? and that?s a thing I had to learn. So I make sure I do something physical every single day. But that doesn?t mean you have to go to the gym and freakin? kill yourself! I do 20 minutes of cardio a day… Literally, I?m never in the gym longer than 45 minutes. Just be consistent? that?s it! It doesn?t necessarily have to be intense, and you will see a difference.?

There’s a lot here, and there’s even more in the source article. I found it strange that Jada praised Angelina on one hand and yet kept insisting that they weren’t friends. If someone in your industry helped you with a key project, wouldn’t you say something like “we didn’t really know each other well beforehand, but she really stepped up for me”? Why would you repeatedly insist that you are not friends with the person unless there’s some history there?
In terms of her parenting style being reactionary, that makes sense. It’s a dumb way to approach raising kids, but it makes sense. It’s still not an acknowledgment that many aspects of the Pinkett-Smith’s belief system are straight from Scientology. Jada will tell the public a lot of things, but she keeps some things close to the vest. Her skin is not just the result of facials, she’s obviously done injectables, but she’s not going to talk about it. At least it’s settled for her.

Remember in the good old days of Goopy Smugness when Gwyneth Paltrow would deign to list all of the food items she had eliminated from her diet and her kids? diets? At one point, she stopped consuming bread, pasta, rice, diary, eggs and coffee. She wrote a cookbook about it too, and she gave interviews because she was so proud of herself for her creepy new version of an eating disorder. Note: I?m not saying gluten allergies aren?t real. I?m just saying ?gluten allergy? has become the latest trend in extreme no-carb diets. And yes, at one point (2013), Gwyneth claimed she had a gluten allergy.
Well, well, well. In this week?s Goop letter, Gwyneth gets a private baking lesson from Zoe Loeb, a pastry chef and wife of one of Gwyneth?s friends. Gwyneth declares ?I am a good cook, and a s*@t baker.? What follows is? rather amazing. Gwyneth bakes! She describes recipes for beignets (PEASANT), brioche (!!), chocolate hazelnut scones (?!?!) and peach squares with flaky dough (how gauche). WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY GOOP?!
Some people have suggested that Gwyneth has been thrown for a loop because her (estranged) husband is dating an Oscar-winning 24-year-old natural beauty who tosses back pizza, beer and all of the gluteny wonders of the world. Perhaps. Perhaps this is Gwyneth?s attempt at being ?relatable? in some weird way (I want to see her put her mouth on those f?king scones). Perhaps this is some kind of technique to win back Chris Martin?s carb-loving heart. I have no idea.
Sidenote: I came across these new quotes from Jessica Seinfeld about Gwyneth. Do you buy that Jessica and Goop are really that tight? Tight enough that Jessica feels it necessary to repeatedly go out and tell media outlets about her friend?s strength, etc? Anyway, Jessica says this about Gwyneth: ?She?s the most wonderful person, misunderstood in a way that?s baffling to the people that love her. I think the people that hate her are the same people who, if they were in the same room with her, they?d be all over her to get a picture and autograph. ? She?s great, and she?s happy, and she?s deeply loved. Way more than most people I know.? Er? no. First of all, I don?t hate Goop. She amuses me. And if I met her, I?d probably say something about her hair (?Hey, girl. Stop with the center part? or ?You can get a really great conditioner at CVS, you know?). But I also find it creepy that Jessica is all ?Gwyneth is deeply loved,? not that Gwyneth loves deeply. Is this also about Martin Lawrence?

Getting to work on the set of their latest film, Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro performed some tai chi in Brooklyn, NY this afternoon (September 18).
The incredibly talented pair shot scenes for their upcoming project ?The Intern,? and in the current scene the Oscar-winning actresses seemed to be a little out of place in the group of athletes.
Per the synopsis, the film follows a fashion website crew that brings in an elderly intern (portrayed by De Niro).
In addition to Anne and Robert, the film stars Nat Wolff, Rene Russo, Adam DeVine and Reid Scott. It?s set to hit theaters on September 25, 2015.

Meanwhile, Jennifer posted a meaningful quote to her Twitter page earlier hinting at a possible struggle with a confrontation.
?Whenever it feels uncomfortable to tell the truth, that's often the most important time to tell it,? Lopez wrote. Could there be trouble in paradise for the beautiful singer?

The lovely fashion designer kept it chic, yet casual as she made sure operations were on track before the grand opening of her first store in her former home.
Meanwhile, Miss Beckham was just recognized for her excellent fashion chops when Hello! Fashion Monthly named the former Spice Girl UK's 'greatest style icon' this week.
Victoria beat out fellow British babes including Emma Watson, Alexa Chung, Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora.
Editor Hilary Alexander said, "It's great to see such a high percentage of British women represented within Hello! Fashion Monthly's new list of the most stylish stars.
