In 2018, Jada Pinkett-Smith revealed that she had been wearing headwraps and scarves because she had started losing her hair. Jada said that her hair started falling out in clumps in the shower one day. I could tell that it was a traumatic experience for Jada but she never mentioned it again, until recently. Earlier this week, Willow Smith posted a photo to Instagram where both she and Jada had freshly shaved heads. Jada posted a screenshot of Willows post, stating that she was motivated by her daughter to finally let it go. Below are a few more details from People:
On Monday, the actress re-posted an Instagram photo of herself and 20-year-old Willow Smith (who she shares with husband Will Smith) revealing her freshly shaved head. Willow made me do it because it was time to let go, she captioned the post.
BUT ? my 50s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed??? the Red Table Talk host added.
Willow, who has rocked a buzz cut on and off for years, was the first to unveil her moms new do, posting the same photo with the caption, ???

OMG! Jada looks stunning with her head shaved. Let me tell you shaving it all off is freeing AF. In 2018 I was under a lot of stress and like Jada my hair started falling out in clumps. So I decided to just shave it off. I shaved my hair off three times between 2018 and 2019 and it was the most freeing thing I ever did. In fact, I never felt sexier. Somehow, shaving off my hair made me feel more feminine which is the opposite of what we are taught. Now it grows back quite thick. Perhaps by shaving it off, Jada will give her hair follicles the opportunity to regenerate but if not, Jade wears a bald fade well. I also like that Beyonces mom, Tina Lawson, commented on the picture stating that Jadas new look highlighted her soulful eyes and beautiful face. I agree, Jada looks stunning. I am happy that her daughter was so supportive and encouraged her mom to let go of her beliefs around hair. I will also add that Jadas bald do also makes her look more youthful. Jada better get it because I dont think she has ever looked more beautiful. I am proud of her for taking the leap and am happy that she is allowing us in on her hair journey like several other notable Black women. I hope these Black women start a movement of embracing their hair in all of its variety. Until then, Jada betta get some hoops and a bold lipstick and rock that ish like 1980s Grace Jones because I am here for it.

The last time we really talked about Jada Pinkett-Smith is when she admitted her romantic entanglement with August Alsina to Will Smith on Red Table Talk. It was definitely a teachable moment and many people had their assumptions about the Smiths relationship confirmed. I am sure there have been other things to come out about Jada since then, but nothing has been as notable as that conversation with Will. In this weeks Celebitchy Zoom meeting we talked a lot about Will and Jada Pinkett Smiths very special Red Table Talk episode, where Jada admitted her entanglement with August Alsina. The consensus was that this was an ego-driven exercise and that Will and Jada did not address most of the things August said or how inappropriate the relationship was. Ashley pointed out that they didnt even acknowledge the fact that they both denied Augusts account at first. We will have a segment from our talk in the upcoming Gossip With Celebitchy podcast, #58, out Sunday morning! In the mean time Wills people went to People Magazines to give his side. They previously gave insider quotes to Us Magazine claiming no one would care about this if they werent famous. Thats too cute by half considering Jada has been desperately trying, for years, to capitalize on peoples mild interest in her.
A source close to the couple says their marital problems were exacerbated by their fame, and that the Bad Boys star, 51, felt more of the pressure to make their high-profile marriage work.
Theyre two different people trying to make it, and on top of it theres this huge spotlight on them, says the source. People are always going to grow and change, but most dont have the world watching their every move while they do that.
While the two have experienced their ups and downs, a friend of Pinkett Smith tells PEOPLE the Girls Trip star has never stopped loving Smith.
She would be the first person to admit marriage is hard work, but she will always love Will, says the friend. Even when they havent been together, Jada always spoke of her marriage as something special.

People also reported that Will and Jada went to the Bahamas with Willow right before the RTT episode came out. They stayed at an exclusive resort called the Albany. I was just looking through their website and they have villas and a whole recording studio there. (The Bahamas is open to US travelers with no quarantine requirements.)
As Zakia said in our meeting, Will surely had entanglements too and hes just mad that Jada was messy and hers got out. Wills side is saying he felt more pressure to make it work because Jadas side leaked, so hes playing the hurt one. Wills potential sidepieces include both a female costar and a man whom Will is rumored to have had a relationship with. (No shade on that if they had an open marriage.) Im not going to get into specifics, but you can figure it out. His hookups were adults, knew their role and didnt talk like August. (Incidentally August has tweeted some cryptic sh-t since the RTT episode came out, go here to read.)
All Will and Jada had to do, to quote Colleen, is to admit they have a nontraditional marriage. Theyve pretty much told us, for years, that their marriage is open. Instead they talked in circles on RTT and made it sound like they were split up. That may have been the case but they seem to have reached an understanding about it. Now were getting spin and sourced stories about how theyre surprised were paying attention to them. Jada revealed on separate RTT episodes that she was once addicted to vibrators and p0rn. Theyre only private about things they dont want to admit.

When I read the headline on Jada Pinkett Smith talking about Willow cutting herself, I felt so sorry for Willow. That sounds awful, but more than that Willow values her privacy. We know that she chose to step back from fame after the success of ?Whip My Hair? because her family has talked about it. I assumed Jada was violating Willow?s privacy yet again, but it turns out that Willow, 17, opened up earlier this year about cutting herself, at age ten, when she was trying to cope with the pressures of fame. Willow told that story on her mother?s Facebook show, Red Table Talk, on an episode about loss which aired in the first season. Jada and her mom are promoting the second season, airing now, and Jada made these comments in a podcast interview with her mother.
Pinkett Smith ? who was accompanied by her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones ? revealed she and Willow, 17, had ?talked? about the moment after the teenager admitted on Red Table Talk she had been self-harming after achieving success with her 2010 single ?Whip My Hair.?
?I wanted to make sure she was okay,? Pinkett Smith said. ?We went through what happened and in the moment I realized as a mother you also have to give your children space to deal with their own shadow.?
?There?s lots of things that my mother didn?t know about me that she?s just finding out about me,? she added. ?Our kids don?t want to burden us.?
?I focused more on how she got herself out versus what got her there,? she said. ?I was most proud about that she could share it in the way she did, which let me know she had come through in a major way that she could put it on the table like that.?
?I wanted to focus on what [it was] that got her through,? the actress explained. ?I really talked to her about her powering side [sic] of her journey and give her all the praise in the world for that part instead of focusing on, ?Why didn?t you tell me??

This episode isn?t available to download yet so I couldn?t confirm that Jada is saying that the first time Willow told her that she used to cut herself was seven years later, while they were taping their show. Jada words it like that, which makes me question why they still aired it. Jada?s quotes here are a bunch of platitudes and I?m still mad for Willow that she?s talking about it. However Willow turns 18 next week (on Halloween!) and it was her decision to make this public at least. She?s not a child anymore and her parents did respect her choice not to pursue a singing career. It sounds like it was hard fought.

Jada Pinkett Smith is doing the rounds for Red Table Talk, which is produced in conjunction with Facebook Watch. It was announced that the first season has been extended 13 more episodes to air in the fall. Given Jadas formula for promoting this show: overshare, get headlines, do interviews explaining the things she revealed, I wonder if its sustainable. Weve already heard Jada talk about her lax parenting, her love of getting off, her hair loss and her feud with Gabriel Union. I shouldnt underestimate Jadas ability to make people cringe. Plus shes having Will on the show soon. They can tell us all about their sex life, just like ten years ago.
Anyway Jada was on the radio show Sway In The Morning, where she talked about her show, her family and her relationship with Will. It was similar to other things weve heard from Jada when shes hinted that she doesnt have a traditional marriage.
Will is going to be on next season
We are going to talk about the very unique partnership with have.
On if they?re going to confront the rumors that they?ve had breaks
Will and I, we are family. That?s never going down. That?s just not. Ever. Take out all that whole marriage, relationship crap. At the end of the day, Will and I are family. I?m going to hold him down. All that relationship, what people think, ideas of a husband, partner whatever. At the end of the day, that?s a man that can rely on me for the rest of his life. Period.
A caller asked when theres a small indiscretion how do you get past that?
The one thing Ive learned as much as we wish our partners could be perfect, that they never hurt us, that they came into relationships with no flaws and had everything figured out, we dont. Inevitably all kinds of things [come up] figuring out are you a person who can hold down monogamy, are you a polyamorous individual? Whatever the hell. Relationships really are about self discovery I have to be more for myself. As I become more for myself I can look at my partner and I can see what his flaws are. I can see what his hurts and his traumas are and sometimes peoples actions reflect hurts and traumas. Do you have somebody thats willing to work through [that] in order to get through to the other side? Ive learned how to love unconditionally as Ive learned how to love myself unconditionally.
She says shes explored different kinds of relationships
People look at relationships as very cookie cut and thats a problem. There are so many different kinds of relationships that are happening in the world that were not talking about that Ive explored completely. A lot.

Jada also said that Will regularly goes on vacation with his ex wife, Sheree, and their son, Trey. Sheree, Will and Trey, 25, just got back from a vacation to Jordan and Israel. I was surprised that she admitted that Will went on vacation with his ex, but obviously it works for them and Jada is ok with it. A lot of families bring their exes on vacation to co-parent with them and can get along.
As for her relationship, I think they did have serious problems around 2011-2012 and they worked it out. Jada seems fine with whatever at this point. Her comments about polyamory were telling to me. You can see that at around 22 minutes into the video below. She talks about how shes standing by Will no matter what around six minutes in.

Jada Pinkett Smith attended the Sundance Film Festival as a judge and as a the host of “The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation Presents Broadening the Lens: Perspective on Diverse Storytelling” panel. Other panelists included Lena Waithe, Effie Brown, Radha Blank, Christine D’Souza, Poppy Hanks, Minhal Baig and Ezra Edelman. During thediscussion of representation on film and in the industry, Jada took a minute to recognize Jessica Chastain for practicing what she preached. Jessica is set to appear with Octavia Spencer in a new comedy. During negotiations, Jada claims that Jessica stood by Octavia so they could both secure a decent deal for the film. Jada Pinkett Smith speaks her piece when she and the people she cares about get snubbed for awards. Do you remember when she was one of the first people calling out #OscarsSoWhite? She even boycotted the Oscars in 2016. That was on behalf of her husband Will being snubbed for Concussion, which was part of a larger issue that has always loomed over Hollywood and is finally being discussed. Now that the Golden Globe nominations are out, Jada has a few things to say about the fact that Tiffany Haddish, the standout star of her hit comedy Girls Trip, was not recognized. She tweeted that the Hollywood Foreign Press didn?t even screen the film, which they deny. More on that in a moment. Here are some of her tweets about this, which are well put. Jada Pinkett Smith may play a prude in her new comedy Girls Trip, but as she admitted in a recent interview, she?s had some ?real wild times? in her pats.The 45-year-old actress admitted during an interview on SiriusXM on Wednesday that she had a stint as a drug dealer around the time she met rapper Tupac Shakur.
During the interview, conducted on Sway in the Morning, Jada was asked if Will had ever met Pac. She ssaid they had, in passing at the NBA All-Star Weekend back when she and Will were dating. She added that Will ?understood? her past relationship with Pac and added ?he gets it.? When asked for ?clarity? on her and Tupac?s relationship, Jada then got into confessional mode, admitting ?It?s kind of hard because I haven?t really told the whole story.? And the whole story is quite a whopper. ?One of the things that?s very interesting that I?ve never really said before is that when I first met Pac, I was a drug dealer. That?s how we started. As I was coming out of the life, he was going more into the life.? She continued:
Pac and I?s relationship was about survival. That?s how it started. I know that most people want to always connect it in this romance thing and that?s just because they don?t have the story. It was based in survival, how we held each other down and when you have somebody that has your back, when you feel like you?re nothing, that?s everything. There?s a lot of components to our story that we?ve never shared for a very specific reason. I just decided that this one little piece was important to share finally because it gives more insight to who we were. It was about survival and it?s always been about survival between us.

Jada recently blasted the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me, claiming it didn?t accurately depict her relationship with the late rapper, and hinting that their relationship ended due to a ?hardcore disagreement.? It seems all will soon be revealed, as Jada told Sway that she was planning on writing a book on her life.
The whole interview is worth a listen if you?ve got the time. She jokes with the show hosts when asked if her 16-year-old daughter Willow was going to attend the premiere of her raunchy, R-rated comedy. Jada said Willow would see it if she snuck in a movie theater with her friends, which Jada said she knows is going to happen. The discussion about Tupac begins around the 15:45 mark, if you just want to hear the juicy stuff. My takeaway is that I kind of want to see Girls Night now – oh, and Jada is beautiful.

These are photos of Jada Pinkett Smith in gold sequin Alexandre Vauthier at the BET Awards last night. I don?t really get this dress in that it has some burnout looks odd, like the pattern is random, especially with the big circular splotch on the stomach area, which you can see better here. It?s a bit over the top, but she?s working it I think.
A couple of weeks ago, Haute Living ran an interview with Jada in which they claimed that her two teenagers, Jaden, 18, and Willow, 16, were both living away from home for their careers. Many outlets ran with that angle, which was supported by Haute Living?s lead up as well as Jada?s quote. Here it is in context:
?It?s funny,? she laughs, ?they?re not around, but they are!? With Trey living five minutes away from Jada and Will, and the others traveling around for work, you can guarantee to find the children at the Smith home when they?re in town. When they?re not with her, she can expect a phone call from them. ?I don?t even have time to miss them! Willow loves to call me every day, and even Jaden, when he?s away on set, still needs to see Will and I when he gets homesick,? she notes as the young star has been away filming Life in a Year up in Toronto.

So she said specifically that Willow called her every day, which I can assume means that Willow was away from home. Only in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the BET Awards, Jada said that only Trey and Jaden, both over 18, are out of the house, but that they do visit every day. There were also additional quotes about how Jada and Will are still going strong.
“Listen, only Jaden and Trey,” she said. “Yes, Willow hasn’t left yet. Now, she will be 18 soon and I’m sure as soon as she turns 18, she’s out. But I have two that are gone.”
“That’s what we prepare them for — to go,” she continued. “So Mommy goes, ‘Bye!’ … The thing is, Jaden lives five minutes from me. Trey lives five minutes from me. They’re at the house every day. It’s almost like as your kids get older, they actually need you more. So, I have three older kids that need me, like, more than ever! I’m like, ‘I’mma get my groove back, I got my freedom.’ It’s like, no.”
Pinkett Smith and Smith will celebrate 20 years of marriage later this year and they’re still as adorable as ever! During a visit to the New Orleans set of Girls Trip, Frazier says he witnessed some super cute PDA from the super couple.
“Between every take, these two sat together and cuddled,” Frazier gushed. “I was like, this is some real love stuff!”
“I love it when Will’s on set with me because it just makes me feel relaxed,” Pinkett Smith responded. “I feel like whenever he’s there, everything’s gonna be OK. I just, I get real mushy because he’s there and I just feel taken care of.”

Remember when Jada and Will went through that rough patch about 5-6 years ago? They seem like they go through phases, take breaks and get counseling, and then come back together again.
As for Willow and Jaden, I would ask why didn?t she clarify that Willow was away for work and is now home, but her full quote to ET is ?only Jaden and Trey, they got that mixed up.? (That?s in the videoon ET?s site.) So if she told Haute Living that Willow calls her every day I guess Willow was away and now she?s back (or maybe their house is so huge they barely see each other). Jada looked really happy when she talked to ET’s Kevin Frazier about getting her freedom when her kids left. My son is away for the summer and while I miss him so much I am enjoying my free time I will admit.

There have have been rumors for years that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were having problems in their marriage of now 19 years. We heard back in late 2011/early 2012 that they were on the verge of a split and then stories came up again last summer that they were just about to divorce, which they denied. Both Will and Jada have admitted that their marriage is work and that they’ve gone through rough patches, but they also express a lot of admiration for each other and say they’re in it for the long haul. I don’t think either has said that they’re in couples therapy though until now. Will did an interview with The Sun where he admitted that he went through therapy with Jada and said that it was difficult but that they’re on the other side now.
Will has told how the couple sought therapy after their marriage reached breaking point. He said: ?I?ve done a lot of marriage counselling.
?What happens in a marriage once you do counselling, the truth comes out.
?And you sit across from your wife and you?ve said all of your truth and she has said all of her truth. You look at each other and you can?t imagine you could ever possibly love each other again now the truth is out.
?It creates a dark moment. But for me it?s the dark before the dawn. When the truth comes out and people have to say who they are and what they think, you get to know who they are.
?I think that?s the cleansing before you get to the other side that is understanding and moving forward in our relationship.?

This clears up a couple of things for me. One is that whatever dalliance Will and Jada had with Scientology is over now because Scientology is dead set against psychotherapy you don’t pay them for. Will not only going to therapy but admitting to it is an indication of that. (As background if you’re not familiar, Will and Jada had a now-closed private school based on Scientology teaching principles and run by primarily Scientology teachers. They donated money to Scientology organizations and while they denied being Scientologists they’ve expressed many personal philosophies consistent with the cult’s teachings, including seeing their children as adults in little bodies. They’ve since stepped back from that somewhat. Plus After Earth was said to be based on Scientology lore.) The other is that they did have problems like a lot of couples, the tabloids were right, and they put in the work to stay together. There’s something admirable about the fact that they’re admitting to that. While I don’t always agree with the things they say, they’re open and don’t b.s. the press and I appreciate that.
