Tuesday marked the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer?s Stone. I should probably freak out about that passage of time but I?m okay with it. I think it?s because my daughter just got into the movies this year and we binged them over a matter of days. So for me it?s more like, ?oh Christ, more of this guy?!? But truthfully, it was an extraordinary book series and became an extraordinary movie franchise. Fans were right to become as invested as they were. And with the obvious exception of its creator, the bulk of the cast that brought these characters to life have not let their fans down. In light of this milestone, HBO Max has put together a 20th Anniversary reunion special that will air on January 1st. By the sound of it, everyone will be there too? except J.K. Rowling.
We are Wingardium Leviosa-ing at the thought of a Harry Potter reunion. And its finally happening.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton and more of the Hogwarts gang will travel back to the magical school with filmmaker Chris Columbus for an HBO Max special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchises first film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer?s Stone, which premiered in the U.S. Nov. 16, 2001.
Happy 20th Anniversary Potterheads! Watson wrote on Instagram Tuesday. Thank you to the fans that have continued to show their support well after the last chapter closed. The magic of the world wouldn?t exist without you. Thank you for fighting to make it such an inclusive and loving place.
Felton added, Is this what school homecoming is like?
HBO Max announced the retrospective special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, Tuesday, corresponding with the anniversary. The special will arrive Jan. 1 and feature in-depth interviews and cast conversations and give a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the franchise, according to a press release.
The Gryffindor trio and Felton will be joined by memorable cast members like Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, He Who Must Not Be Named (Ralph Fiennes) and others. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowlings involvement in the special was not noted in the release.

In addition to generally being neat people, the younger castmates all remained good friends (I think the older castmates were existing friends already). I wrote a couple of years ago about how there?s a small Potter Village in Santa Monica where several of them live. Inexplicably, I never got into these books or movies. I do enjoy the world surrounding them, though. I am a dedicated Ravensclaw and have opinions on all the characters and their outcome. So I will probably watch this. Richard Harris and Helen McCroy have both passed away, sadly, so they will be missed. OMG, Alan Rickman as well! I don?t know how they can have anything to do with Harry Potter without Dame Maggie Smith, but I wonder if she?d refuse. She?s not listed. She won?t watch the films as a refresher, we know that. My gawd I love her. Gary Oldman is listed. Anyway, this is exciting and what?s better is it isn?t a remake. I posted the teaser below, but it doesn?t really tell us much.
Several people take the fact that Rowling?s name is not on the release as confirmation that she will not be involved. Technically we don?t know that, but we can hope that is the case. How tragic that she has become so hateful that she?s not even welcome at a celebration for the world she created for kids who needed an escape from their own realities. I hope she lets that sink in.

Someone said Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello had been together for six years and I really had to sit here and think about whether my perception of time is irretrievably broken. Turns out, my mind isn?t broken (yet). Shawn and Camila got together officially in the late spring/early summer of 2019. As soon as they began dating, the pap strolls and thirstiness really began in earnest. A lot of people blamed Camila for the thirstiness, but hey, Shawn was totally fine with it, and I think he enjoyed being part of a hot ?It Couple.? But all good things must come to an end and here we are, two and a half years later. Shawnmila is no more:

On Wednesday, Nov. 17, the pop stars announced that they have broken up after dating for more than two years. Camila and Shawn wrote on their respective Instagram Stories, Hey guys, weve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started out relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.

Both Shawn and Camila posted that exact statement on their IG Stories, so? I mean, the logistics of the break up was that one of their publicists negotiated with the other?s publicist to get the wording just right. Shawn and Camila lasted longer than I thought they would, and they managed to live together during the pandemic and not drive each other crazy, which I also did not expect. This has the feel of a (showmance-y) relationship which just ran its course and perhaps outlived its usefulness. They never struck me as one of Gen Z?s great romances, but who knows.

Halle Berry and her new beau, musician Van Hunt, went Instagram official back in September 2020. The have since been gushing about each other every chance they get. Halle is profiled in Womens Health. She said that she is madly in love and wishes she had found Van earlier so she could love him longer. Halle also told People TV last month that Van created the title song for her new movie, Bruised, and that he was supportive of her directorial debut. Below are a few highlights via People:
I wish I had met him sooner so I could have loved him longer. I just feel fulfilled. I feel happy in my life romantically, as a mother, as an artist, said Berry. Im a much better mother in this circumstance than I would have been had I stayed in a romantic relationship that didnt serve me and didnt make me feel the way I need to feel as a woman.
Speaking to PEOPLE (the TV Show!) special correspondent Adrianna Costa last month, Berry said her boyfriend was by her side while making Bruised, a film about a retired MMA fighter who is pushed to get back in the ring when her young son re-enters her life.
I had a lot of support. ? [Hunt] was a big part of that, she said at the time. He did some music for the movie. He actually wrote the title song.
When asked by Extra last month if she and her partner are madly in love, Berry replied, We are, before adding, Sometimes you have to wait for things in life. I waited patiently ? well, maybe not patiently, but I waited.

I am truly happy for Halles new found love. However, I will always be concerned about someone who seems to fall into patterns like Halle does. I hope that Van is a good guy and that she has grown enough to recognize when someone isnt good for her. I also hope each of them have autonomy in this relationship. It is super sweet that Van was on set with Halle while she filmed and that he wrote the title song. They seem to genuinely support one another. Heres to a great directorial debut for Halle. Her film Bruised is currently at 70% on Rotten Tomatoes which isnt too shabby. And good luck to Halle and Van. Halle is right, sometimes being patient and waiting for the right one to come along works out in the end.
