Jessica Alba?s divorce is starting to freak me out a little bit. It?s just so? un-Hollywood. In Hollywood, even the most generous and warm divorces have some spice and drama. I mean, a marriage is ending, clearly two people have fought about something, whether it?s infidelity, money, careers, kids. Even if two celebrities manage to be completely mature and loving in their divorce, there?s still drama over divorce lawyers or assets or PR! But not Jessica Alba and Cash Warren. At least not yet. I don?t even get the sense that Alba and Warren are making an effort to position themselves in any kind of way, and neither party seems particularly concerned about their image or their assets. Even TMZ?s announcement about their separation last week didn?t feel one-sided or dramatic. And now this Jessica Alba has announced on Instagram that her marriage is over. This is what she posted:
?I?ve been on a journey of self realization and transformation for years ? both as an individual and in partnership with Cash.?
?I?m proud of how we?ve grown in our marriage over the last 20 years and it?s now time for us to embark on a new chapter of growth and evolution as individuals.
?We are moving forward with love, kindness and respect for each other and will forever be a family. Our children remain our highest priority and we request privacy at this time.?
[From Alba?s IG]
Hilariously, she didn?t even pin that IG, at least she hadn?t pinned it as of this writing. She just tossed it off like it was a random announcement about some minor gig. So, I have a small theory about this I think Alba and Warren?s marriage was obviously more like a loose partnership in recent years, and they were basically just staying together for the kids. Maybe they also had a trial separation, or they agreed to spend more time apart. I think Alba is the one who decided to pull the plug, and she expects Cash to not put up much of a fight about anything. Maybe she?s fine with everything she?s built being part of the community property of their marriage too.
Also: People Mag reported exclusively that Alba hired a divorce lawyer. Us Weekly says that Cash and Jessica plan to file for divorce soon and Cash is moving out, but things have slowed down because of the Southern California fires. Hm.

| | Florence Pugh: 'It's always been fashionable to tell a woman how she should live her life' | | Added 385 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Florence Pugh recently chatted with the Times to promote We Live In Time, her weepy drama with Andrew Garfield. I still haven?t seen it and I don?t want to I dislike those kinds of manipulative grief-p0rny films. But I do support Florence, who apparently had a big life change because of the movie. After filming it, she broke up with Zach Braff and took a real break from her career for the first time in a decade. She speaks about that and (what else?) body image and standing up for herself online:
Her father wants her to stay ?100 per cent Flo Pugh?. ?And so I always prodded at things. I?m not nasty ? I hope people think I?m kind. But there are fine lines women have to stay within, otherwise they are called a diva, demanding, problematic. And I don?t want to fit into stereotypes made by others. It is really exhausting for a young woman to just be in this industry, and actually other industries. But I?ve always been encouraged to have a voice.?
How ?We Live in Time? changed her life: ?When I finished filming my life changed,? Pugh explains. She broke up with her long-term boyfriend, the actor Zach Braff, in 2022 and has dated a few people, none famous, since. ?Relationships came and went, and I had this opportunity to look at my life away from my work. And I realised, OK, I need to wake the f*** up. I had to look away from my career, from movies, from wanting to be this kind of actor, that kind of actor. Or how many awards I would love to get before I pass away. That?s been my focus for ten years, but I want to make sure that the things I need to do, whether children, family, change, change in relationships ? well, I realised I need to make changes now. Because I?m a worker bee and that is why I?ve never wanted a break. Everything was just, wow! What?s next? And it is only ten years in that I can now go, oh, I need to do a bit of my life.?
The sniping criticism of her body: ?Look, not everybody has legs that go on for days. I remember watching this industry and feeling that I wasn?t represented. I remember godawful headlines about how Keira Knightley isn?t thin any more, or watching women getting torn apart despite being talented and beautiful. The only thing people want to talk about is some useless crap about how they look. And so I didn?t care to abide by those rules. I?ve loved challenging ideas I don?t like.?
Challenging men?s BS: ?I wanted to challenge how women were perceived, how we are supposed to look? Actually I wasn?t trying to challenge. I just wanted to be there, to make space for a version of a person that isn?t all the things they used to have to be. I?m proud I?ve stuck by myself and look the way I look ? I?m really interested in people who are still angry with me for not losing more weight, or who just hate my nose ring. I am not going to be able to just change the way that things are ? but I can certainly help young women coming into this industry by making conversations happen where they weren?t before.? Recently she revealed that she has had her eggs frozen after a diagnosis of endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Playing characters who were marginalised in the 1800s: ?Well, it?s always been fashionable to tell a woman how she should live her life. Or that the decisions they are making are wrong or too loud. It?s about control, isn?t it? It?s still ultimately about suppressing one sex, and we?re dealing with it all the time.?
What it?s all about: ?I mean, the world is not exactly fun right now. Whether you?re in your teens having to manoeuvre life on your phone, because the internet?s terrifying, or the wars with many people dying. There?s so much crap, but this reminds everyone that the reason we?re here is to love and be loved. There aren?t car chases. Or aliens. But it?s real ? because there is a time frame on our lives and it shouldn?t be something we wait for to happen. Life should be something we?re in control of.?
[From The Times]
?Well, it?s always been fashionable to tell a woman how she should live her life.? Amen. That?s a message I wish more young women and girls understood, that none of this is new, even if it feels new or it feels heightened because of the internet. It?s always been the case that men are in women?s business. It?s always been the case that women?s bodies are policed and controlled. As for what she does online to defend herself and her body/looks? she can do whatever she wants, obviously, and I?m sure her words have helped other women. That being said, I do feel like there?s a razor?s edge to walk between ?defending yourself from trolls? versus ?doing something attention-seeking and attacking people for having an opinion.?

| | Princess Kate told a cancer patient that 'she didn't have to have' a cold cap | | Added 385 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
On Tuesday, the Princess of Wales visited the cancer ward at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Kate?s office confirmed that Kate had been treated at the same hospital last year, and that?s where she had been ?smuggled in? to receive chemotherapy treatments. Kate made some strange comments during her visit with cancer patients, but royal reporters quickly swooped in to do damage control and massage the message. The message? Kate is fine, she?s in remission, but her ?new normal? means that she?s still not going back to work in any way, and how dare you question any part of this story. Interestingly, People Magazine has published several exclusives about Kate?s visit, and I suspect that Kensington Palace organized these pieces with palace-selected people and palace-enforced talking points. One woman who met Kate declared that Kate doesn?t have to tell people what kind of cancer she had:
Kate Middletons visit to a London hospital where she had cancer treatment last year made a real impact, but one cancer patient says theres no need for the royal to disclose her diagnosis. Angela Terry met the Princess of Wales during her emotional stop at The Royal Marsden Hospital on Jan. 14, and exclusively tells PEOPLE that Kates presence provided a huge boost.
She was there to say thank you to the people who had looked after her, talk to patients who were in a similar situation, Terry tells PEOPLE. It was a great message of hope because she looked so well. We don?t need to know what cancer she had. We just know she?s been through surgery, she?s been through chemo ? and one year later, my goodness, look, she is here.
Terry, 71, was diagnosed with EGFR-positive lung cancer in 2019 and serves as the non-executive chair of EGFR Positive UK, a charity for mutation driven lung cancer. She was at the Royal Marsden for treatment on Tuesday when she met Princess Kate, who unexpectedly stepped out there to show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world leading care and treatment the Marsden provides, a Kensington Palace spokesman said.
[From People]
?It was a great message of hope because she looked so well. We don?t need to know what cancer she had.? Eh. Kate and King Charles have both declined to talk specifics about their cancer diagnoses, but Charles has done a lot more to show that he?s receiving treatment and that his cancer and the treatment has knocked him on his ass. Charles, to me, is more realistic and relatable than the conspiracy of silence around Kate for the past year. Meanwhile, People Mag did another exclusive about Kate telling a cancer patient that she didn?t use the cold cap:
Kate Middletons hair has long been a hallmark of her style, and during a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, a cancer patient revealed that the princess shared she didnt have to have cold cap therapy?a treatment that helps reduce the risk of hair loss?during her cancer treatment.
Katherine Field, a patient undergoing cancer treatment who met Princess Kate during her visit, tells PEOPLE that they discussed cold capping ? a scalp cooling system that can help reduce hair loss during chemotherapy, according to the American Cancer Society. Field, who was wearing a cold cap at the time, said the conversation added a personal connection to their encounter.
I hate it, but I think it is working. Today there is a little bit of hair coming out, but I?m just trying to delay it, Field, an art historian and curator, tells PEOPLE. When asked if Princess Kate mentioned using a cold cap, Field shared, She just said that she didn?t have to have it. For her to lose her hair, which is so iconic, would have been awful. Everyone loves her hair!
[From People]
In retrospect, I think one of the craziest parts about Kate?s situation is that she actually looked quite ill in 2023 and her use of wigs was quite noticeable, and then when she ?came back? to public view in June of last year when she was apparently going through chemo she looked worlds better and a lot healthier. She was practically glowing at the Wimbledon men?s final last July. And yes, the situation with her hair is certainly interesting.

Timothee Chalamet was in London earlier this week to premiere and promote A Complete Unknown. He then joined the cast in Paris for a screening/premiere there last night. All was well until photographers realized that Kylie Jenner had flown in to spend time with her boyfriend following his premiere. There was a huge paparazzi swarm around Kylie and Timothee last night. This feels like a big deal! Obviously, they?ve been photographed together at events (the Globes, the US Open, etc), but this was different. They handled it well, honestly.
Kylie Jenner and Timothe Chalamet were photographed holding hands during a romantic date night in Paris on Wednesday. They were seen entering the ritzy Hotel Royal Monceau after dining at one of chef Cyril Lignac?s high-end restaurants.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder, 27, dressed to the nines for their date night in a black curve-hugging jumpsuit and matching heels. Chalamet, 28, kept things more casual in back jeans, a white tee and a colorful jacket. He added a pop of Pink with a skinny scarf and a baseball cap.
The couple?s Parisian trip comes just over a week after they attended the 2025 Golden Globes together. Page Six exclusively reported that Jenner did not walk the carpet with the ?Dune? star because she wanted the night ?to be all about Timothe? rather than them as a couple.
[From Page Six]
Reportedly, Kylie is often in New York with Timothee but the paparazzi rarely catch them out and about. That?s especially true when they?re in LA together too. Anyway, I enjoy it. I like them together. I like that Kylie flew into Paris to hang out with him, and that he held her hand and didn?t hide in the bushes. They?ve been together two years, they might actually care about each other. This might even be built to last.

This week, Jessica Simpson announced her split from Eric Johnson, her husband of ten years and father of their three kids. Their separation was widely rumored throughout 2024, and it looked like both Jessica and Eric had removed their wedding rings towards the end of the year. I assumed there were several factors Jessica moved to Nashville to restart her music career, and there seemed to be significant money problems in recent years. So what was really going on? It sounds like someone cheated? At least that?s what Page Six?s sources are insinuating.
Jessica Simpson?s 10-year marriage to Eric Johnson was rocky long before their split, Page Six has exclusively learned.
?Jess and Eric had trust issues,? a source tells us. ?They were no longer on the same page, and it drove a wedge between them.?
Simpson, 44, announced her separation from Johnson, 45, on Monday, confirming reports that they have been living apart while navigating what she called ?a painful situation.?
?Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,? she said in a statement, referencing the estranged couple?s daughters, Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, and son, Ace, 11. ?We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.?
We hear Simpson and Johnson ? who are selling their $18 million marital home in Hidden Hills, Calif. ? decided to live separately last year ?as a trial of sorts? before officially calling it quits.
?Jess thought it would help if they spent some time apart,? our source shares, ?but it only made her realize she enjoyed her independence.?
We?re told Simpson, who recently celebrated seven years of sobriety, has ?good days and bad days,? but she is ?handling the separation well, all things considered.?
Reps for the ?With You? singer did not immediately respond to Page Six?s requests for comment. Simpson and Johnson first sparked breakup rumors in November 2024 after she cryptically wrote on Instagram that her plan to return to music was an ?apology to [herself] for putting up with everything [she] did not deserve.?
[From Page Six]
Trust issues? Putting up with sh-t she didn?t deserve? Did that man cheat on her?? The thing is, Jessica has been ?acting single? for the past year, which is fine because it turns out that she was in a trial separation. But I would love to know what came first and what started all of this. More housekeeping: it?s true that Jessica is selling their Hidden Hills, California home, she just slashed the price on it too. I assume Eric was living there while Jessica lived in Nashville. People Magazine also had an exclusive about how Eric and Jessica have worked out a ?new schedule? for the kids and there?s no drama between them as parents. We?ll see.

| | Paris Hilton volunteered at the Pasadena Humane Society after losing her home | | Added 387 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

So many of you shared different LA-area animal shelters to donate to, in the comments on the hero story of Max the Dog (who is safely at a rescue center!). One group that several of you mentioned was the Pasadena Humane Society. Well, guess who volunteered at PHS over the weekend? Paris Hilton. I knew Paris was among the celebrities who?d lost their homes in the wildfires, but I didn?t realize that she actually watched her house in Malibu burn down on live TV. I can barely imagine what that must have been like, but Paris managed to put words to it eloquently in an Instagram post of her visiting the wreckage. Even after all that, Paris has set to work pitching in with relief efforts. In addition to spending time at PHS, Paris has also been helping out at Baby2Baby and a Hilton in Montebello, CA that is housing displaced families. And on top of that, she?s launched an emergency fund through her nonprofit. People Mag has all the details:
Two days after revealing the destruction of her home, [Hilton] headed to Pasadena to aid the impacted community. On Monday, Jan. 13, the Simple Life star, 43, posted to X, assisting the Pasadena Humane Society with animals who were found after the wildfires.
She revealed there was one cat without a collar in Altadena, Calif., which was heavily impacted by the Eaton Fire. Hilton explained that the cat ?has been in the shelter for the last four days .?
Adding, ?Please share with anyone you know from the Altadena area so we can reconnect this baby with his owner! His animal ID is A519218.?
Hilton added that her nonprofit, 11:11 Media Impact, has ?contributed to support the shelter?s efforts, and they are ?still raising funds to help displaced families and pets.? Noting, ?Every donation makes a difference in providing emergency relief, housing, and supplies. If you?re able to donate or volunteer, the Pasadena Humane Society is an incredible charity to support! .?
Hilton also posted on Instagram that she ?had the privilege of volunteering to support the inspiring impact work? at Baby2Baby and the Hilton in Montebello, Calif., and the Pasadena Humane Society. The Instagram carousel included several images of her and her husband, Carter Reum, with those impacted at different locations.
She also revealed she is fostering a dog named Zuzu, ?whose family unfortunately had to surrender her after their home was destroyed in the wildfires.? Hilton said, ?Fostering is such an important way to help when you?re able to ? if you can, please consider giving a temporary or permanent home to animals in need .?
The mother of two said the team ?picked up essential items and gifts for the displaced families? who are staying at the Hilton in Montebello. ?My heart goes out to them and being able to bring comfort and a smile to their faces is something I will never forget ,? she wrote.
On Friday, Jan. 10, Hilton posted an Instagram announcing that she is working with 11:11 Media Impact to launch an emergency fund to ?support displaced families with young children,? she wrote.
That day, Hilton said she would start with a personal contribution of $100,000 and noted that she would match any additional dollars raised up to $100,000. In her Monday, Jan. 13 Instagram post, she announced they had already raised over $600,000 in 3 days. They aim to reach $1 million ?to provide cash assistance, housing, and essentials to those affected.?
Hilton is working with the emergency relief organization CORE, she said. The donations will provide short-term housing and hotel stays for families, deliver essentials and supplies to evacuation centers and support local animal shelters.
[From People]
Again, I am mighty impressed by Paris having the emotional wherewithal to put in the time to volunteer, set up a fund through her nonprofit, and take on a foster pup, mere days after her house just burned to the ground. I know she has money, and that helps, but I still give her credit for how she?s helping out. And as for little Zuzu, that girl is destined to be a foster fail, right? That sweet face! She looks like she has some Dachshund in her, so it?s highly probable that I?m extra susceptible to her cuteness because she reminds me of my dearly departed My Girl. And I could be projecting, but the expression on Zuzu?s face looks a touch bewildered and concerned, and understandably so! I feel for Zuzu, who likely has no idea what is happening, as much as I feel for her family who had to make the difficult decision to do what was right for Zuzu, even if it broke their hearts.
So here?s the important stuff: links to Pasadena Humane Society, 11:11 Media Impact, and CORE for making donations, if you are able. Its all paws on deck.

I admit, I did not think Pamela Anderson was going to be around for the awards circuit with The Last Showgirl after the Golden Globes. But boy have I been proven wrong, in the best way possible! (Full disclosure: I havent seen the movie yet, but am hoping to this weekend. Perhaps when I have a gaping hole in my schedule on Monday the 20th at 12pm ET). Still, I?m happy to root for Pam based on the soulful journey she?s been on and shared with us the last few years. While it might appear on the surface that Pam has done a rebrand ? going from the buxom, painted-for-the-gods bombshell of the 90s to a makeup-free, meditating, gardening, growing-her-own-vegetables free spirit today (and still a bombshell!) ? by Pam?s account, it?s all been about returning to who she?s always been. In a new interview with USA Today, Pam described having to ?remember who I was? before Hollywood ascribed a certain type to her:
On why she ?peeled it all back?: I?ve learned that you have to believe in yourself before other people believe in you. I started to believe what other people thought and that?s why I peeled it all back: I wanted to remember who I was when I wasn?t dressing for other people. I wanted to stop playing characters in my personal life, and to start playing them on film or on stage. It?s interesting, at this age, to feel like I?m at the very beginning of my career.
What she connected to in her Last Showgirl role: You can go to therapy or talk to your best friend all day long, but there?s nothing like an art project to heal parts of yourself. I just had so much empathy for the character; there?s no perfect way to be a parent, you know? The mother-daughter story really resonated with me, having two adult sons now and apologizing (to them). Your kids are going through what you?re going through, and in the moment, we don?t realize that. So I?ve been able to have those conversations with my boys and we?re so close. Having their mother objectified was always a difficult thing, so I?ve really made an effort to talk about feelings with my sons.
More on her sons: I?m a very lucky mom, but I?ve always felt a little guilty that they feel so protective of me. I wish our family survived intact; I?ve never gotten over it, and that?s something I?ve carried with me. Even now, my relationship is my work. I have two grown, beautiful kids who say, ?Mom, all we want for you is to be you and realize your potential.? And that?s exactly how I feel for them. I don?t want to take up too much of their brain power. I want them to live their own lives: full of ups and downs, mistakes, and whatever they?re going to do in their careers, and not to worry about Mom.
She did it her way: Well, I definitely did it my own way; I took an unorthodox route to get here. I did endure some times where however I handled it was probably not the best way. But I feel very fortunate to be in this position now, it could have just as easily slipped through my fingers. You just have to recognize the moment you?re being handed. You have to get quiet and wait for what?s coming around the corner. And then when the opportunity comes, you grab it.
Vanity is a prison, and she?s free now! Vanity is a prison. This has been such a free time for me to walk around as I am. No one?s falling over backward going, ?Oh, no, I can?t look at that! She?s not wearing any makeup!? Nobody cares! We all care so much about ourselves ? we?re our own worst critics, for sure.
[From USA Today]
The full interview is really charming. Elsewhere Pam talks about reciting Shakespeare sonnets as a kid while her father watched TV, reading heavy Tennessee Williams and Eugene O?Neill plays during her Baywatch and Playboy cover days, and visiting a tree she ?adopted? in NYC?s Central Park in honor of her sons. And speaking of, I found the sections about her relationship with her sons the most moving. She?s clearly raised emotionally intelligent boys (their shock at their mother attending Paris Fashion Week sans glam team notwithstanding, lol), and it sounds like the three of them are very close. And though she?s mainly makeup-free these days, I think she looks more glowing than ever. The comment that she feels like she?s at the beginning of her career had me choked up, too. It?s never too late! I also found this line super intriguing: ?You have to get quiet and wait for what?s coming around the corner.? What?s the difference between getting quiet and? just not doing anything? Tell us, Pamela! (Asking for a friend.)

Last week, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren soft-launched their divorce. I noted, at the time, that I was surprised that we hadn?t gotten more about the much-rumored split of the other Jessica, Jessica Simpson. In the last half of 2024, there were steady rumors about the state of Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson?s marriage. Money problems and location problems, allegedly Jessica moved to Nashville and she?s planning to relaunch her music career. Meanwhile, Eric is? not in Nashville, apparently. Well, now People Magazine is calling it. Jessica and Eric?s marriage is over.
Jessica Simpson and husband Eric Johnson are taking time apart. The singer and actress, 44, and her former NFL player husband, 45, are separating after 10 years of marriage, Simpson tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage, Simpson said in a statement to PEOPLE. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.
Johnson was spotted without his wedding ring in November, around the same time Simpson teased her comeback to music with a cryptic Instagram post that featured photos of herself in a recording studio.
Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic, she captioned the images. This comeback is personal. It?s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.
A source told PEOPLE days later that that the With You singer and her husband very much live separate lives.
Simpson and Johnson married in July 2014 after four years of dating and share three children: daughters Maxwell Maxi Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
[From People]
I will always respect Eric and I hope Jessica feels the same way for supporting her through her sober journey and helping her deal with her drinking problem. I genuinely thought they were happy and settled, but Jessica has also been going through some things separate from her marriage. She?s in debt because of her clothing line (she and her mom bought back the rights to the full line) and she?s trying to relaunch her music career. It would not surprise me if Jessica is the one who decided she was done with the marriage.
Jessica posted this photo from Nashville late last year she?s really given herself an extreme makeover.

Pretty sure if you look up ?Country Karen? in the dictionary, Carrie Underwood?s photo appears. Carrie Underwood has always had the look, energy, and vibe of a Karen. We also know that she?s politically conservative, although she?s rarely gone out of her way to align herself to the Republican Party on the record. But it?s a brave new world now that 49% of American voters elected that orange monster yet again. Lots of bigots, racists, fascists, abusers and dumbasses feel like they have a blank check to fly their freak flag. Carrie is one of them she has agreed to perform at Donald Trump?s inauguration.
Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform at President-elect Trumps inauguration next week, Trumps transition team confirmed to Axios Monday.
Why it matters: Underwood is a more high-profile performer than the musical guests at Trumps 2017 inauguration, signaling that the entertainment industrys hesitance to embrace Trump has thawed since he left office.
The big picture: One of the staples of a presidential inauguration is a musical performance by a buzzy musical star, and this year the honor will go to Underwood, who is set to perform a rendition of America the Beautiful.
The Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club will accompany her.
A representative from CAA, which represents Underwood, did not provide Axios with comment before publication. Trumps 2017 inauguration day featured performances from the Radio City Rockettes and Jackie Evancho, a former runner-up on Americas Got Talent. In 2017, the inaugural committee faced difficulties finding guests willing to perform at the celebration.
[From Axios]
After Axios and TMZ broke the story, Carrie released a statement, confirming her performance: ?I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.? Humbled? We must all come together? Historic event? Those white supremacists really think they?re pulling the wool over everyone?s eyes, don?t they? Anyway, it?s not like I really cared about Underwood to begin with, but I hope everyone who cozies up to Trump gets exactly what they deserve. If you dance with the devil?

I swear, I need a chart to keep track of all the latest things ?experts? tell us about coffee drinking. Typically the bulletins feel very coffee negative, with warnings to reduce, delay, or eliminate consumption altogether. But now at last, praise the percolator, a study published this week in the European Heart Journal is finally serving us pro-coffee news! The study focused on the time of day people were drinking coffee, and after poring over results taken from 40,000 adults between 1999 to 2018, researchers say that drinking your cup of joe in the morning can lower your risk of premature death by 16% and lower your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by 31%. That?s enough to keep me on a steady drip!
All in the timing: The study shows consuming coffee only in the morning was linked to a 16% lower risk of premature death and a 31% reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared to non-coffee drinkers. ?This is the first study testing coffee drinking timing patterns and health outcomes,? lead study author Dr. Lu Qi, a professor of public health at Tulane University, said in a news release. ?We don?t typically give advice about timing in our dietary guidance, but perhaps we should be thinking about this in the future.?
Study notes: Researchers analyzed data from over 40,000 adults aged 18 and up using dietary records collected between 1999 and 2018. Coffee consumption was divided into three timeframes: morning (from 4 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.), afternoon (from noon to 4:59 p.m.), and evening (from 5 p.m. to 3:59 a.m.) Results show that those who drank coffee exclusively in the morning benefited the most in terms of longevity and heart health. Meanwhile, folks who drank coffee throughout the day saw no significant reduction in risk. The findings held true regardless of whether participants drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee, and the amount consumed ? whether they drank less than one cup or more than three ? didn?t impact the benefits.
Some theories on why time of day matters: Experts agree that the timing of coffee intake may influence your circadian rhythm and hormone levels. Drinking coffee later in the day, even if we feel like we need it, may disrupt melatonin production, a hormone that regulates sleep and influences heart health. According to study authors, some inflammatory markers in the blood have their own clocks. And the anti-inflammatory effects of coffee may be more effective when consumed in the morning, when these markers peak.
A disclaimer: However, the study was observational and cannot prove causation, noted Vanessa King, a registered dietitian nutritionist and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics who wasn?t involved in the study, told CNN.

Ok, what?s this business about ?no significant reduction in risk? if you drink coffee throughout the day? For instance, say you start your coffee in the morning, and have the bulk of it then, but are still sipping some in the early to mid afternoon ? do the afternoon sips completely wash out the benefits of having started imbibing in the morning? If I finish my last half a cup around 1pm, have I completely blown my 16% risk reduction, or can I still claim 10%? Furthermore, how are the time frames ? 4am to 12pm morning, 12 to 5pm afternoon, 5pm to 4am evening ? relative to a person?s typical operating hours? I?m thinking of us night owls! Like Kristin Chenoweth, who prefers getting up at 11am at the earliest. Could Kristin?s morning be a few hours later, and still effective for reducing risk of premature death? And finally, did the study keep track of what kinds of coffee people were drinking? I know it said there was no difference between caffeine and decaf, but there are a lot more variables when it comes to coffee these days! How much do the percentages change between latte and macchiato, almond or whole milk, sugar or sweetener, Dunkin? or Starbucks? I hate to pour a wet filter on these promising results, but lives are at stake! Or at least risk of ending prematurely.
