In October 2020, Dominic West was photographed kissing and canoodling with Lily James in Italy. The problem was that West has been married to an Irish aristocrat for years. The whole affair blew up in the British and American press, and it looked like Catherine FitzGerald might actually leave him and file for divorce. She didn?t though. Less than a month after the affair, Dominic somehow persuaded his wife to do a series of bizarre photo-ops, including one where they walked arm-in-arm in front of the waiting paparazzi. They got through it and their marriage survived. Dominic has mostly avoided talking about it, but he was profiled by the Times of London and he ended up referencing the affair a few times. Some highlights from the Times:
It?s a relief to not play a posh bloke for a change: ?But my wife, who is genuinely upper class, always tells me, ?You?re much better in the working-class parts, you?re not very good as upper class, you?re not convincing at all.? And I agree with her?. I?m McNulty, and I?m Jean Valjean [in a TV version of Les Misrables] and I?m Iago [with a broad Yorkshire accent in a Sheffield Crucible production of Othello in 2011]. I think those are my best roles. Some people look good in stiff collars but I don?t think I?m one of them. I understand upper-class attitudes and ways, and I like those characters, but as an outsider.?
He did go to Eton, although he doesn?t come from ?old money?: ?Maybe we all have some difficulty in fitting in, and that?s why being sent away to Eton was so useful. It made me quite resilient. It gave me a sense of detachment or dislocation that was useful?. Once I worked through the trauma.?
The Lily James affair and playing Prince Charles: ?Definitely. I?d had a very acute understanding of what it?s like to feel the horror of your name or your photograph coming up in the newspapers. There is that dreadful freezing moment when something is being revealed about you. I think anyone can understand how that feels. But I?d been through it a couple of years previously and it must have informed how I approached it. That gut feeling of horror isn?t something you get inured to.?
On Ruth Wilson feeling exploited on ?The Affair?: ?Um ? we ? we talked a lot about it and I suppose I did experience it. I don?t really like talking about it but ? yeah, everything Ruth has said is absolutely right.?
Any upsides to the Lily James incident? ?I hesitate to speak on my wife?s behalf because it was obviously horrible, particularly for her,? he says. And then he gives out a cackle, all the tension escaping from him like air from a balloon. ?But we do joke about it sometimes. Because whenever we went out together, the papers would always say we were ?putting on a show of unity?. Even if we?d just been rowing about parking the car or whatever, even if that couldn?t be further from the truth. And so when we go out we do sort of say, ?Shall we go and have a show of unity up in London??

Yeah, just further evidence that the ?upper class? is simply built different. Dominic?s actions and behavior were humiliating for his wife, but she simply kept calm and carried on and now they?re fine-ish. I would imagine he was in the doghouse for a while, just as I would imagine that Catherine probably set some new rules. But all in all, he got away with it because the upper class would rather just stay married to a cheater than have some scandalous divorce. Plus, we don?t know what Catherine is up to it could be that she?s having just as much fun, but she?s simply more discreet.

The Met Gala is on May 6th this year. The theme is ?Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,? and the dress code is ?The Garden of Time.? So expect groundbreaking florals and people wearing vines and such. You would think that Taylor Swift would be all over this theme, even though it?s been years since she?s gone with a pastels-and-florals style. But apparently Taylor isn?t going to this year?s Met Gala, and neither is her boyfriend. Taylor has a good excuse her Eras Tour picks up just a few days after the gala, and she likely needs to rest up and prepare. But what about Travis? That man loves fashion!
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will not be among the celebs walking the red-carpeted stairs for the 2024 Costume Institute Ball in NYC, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.
?Taylor and Travis are not going to the Met Gala. They passed,? the source says. ?They might go as it gets closer, but for now, they are not going.?
Fans were hoping to see Swift, 34, make an appearance with Kelce, 34, at the ?Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion? themed evening, where confirmed celeb attendees include Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth. The super-couple?s no-show for the Manhattan event is also a matter of logistics: The bash takes place on Monday May 6, but Swift has an Eras Tour concert scheduled in Paris, France just a few days later on May 9.
Swift has not attended the Met Gala since 2016, when she rocked a silver Louis Vuitton snakeskin frock for the ?Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology? theme. She elevated her look with strappy heels as she served as a co-chair for the event, where she seemingly met ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

I think Us Weekly has it wrong about meeting Joe I thought she met Joe months later, in the fall of 2016? Taylor spent time with Tom Hiddleston at the 2016 Met Gala, which led to the Worldwide Tiddlebanging Tour. Just FYI. Anyway, TMZ also got the tip that Travis and Taylor were skipping the gala. TMZ?s sources also say that Anna Wintour issued separate invitations to Trav and Tay and ?both have RSVPd ?no? to the celeb-packed evening.? You know what I wonder? I wonder if Taylor hasn?t prioritized the gala this year (or any year past 2016) because Wintour has allowed the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan to attend in recent years. It could be that Wintour told her that Kim Kardashian will definitely be there and that?s why Taylor is opting out. Plus, I?m sure Karlie Kloss will be there too. The gala has become an event with too many snake enemies.

Angela Levin is one of the biggest nutjobs in the ?royal commentary? game. These days, I only cover her increasingly bizarre, nonsensical rantings when they go viral. Thankfully, Levin-going-viral is happening less and less, although Levin is still invited to chime in with royal commentary nearly every week by the Sun and by various British chat shows. Instead of being regarded as a delusional fantasist who spouts lies and conspiracies about Prince Harry and Meghan, she?s still seen as some kind of go-to royal expert when a show wants a quick hit of royal gossip. So, that?s how this current situation started Levin was invited to do a segment on TalkTV, all about the Duchess of Sussex?s jam and her friendships with Melissa McCarthy and Abigail Spencer. Here?s the clip:
She moves effortlessly from claiming that Melissa McCarthy is scared of the Duchess of Sussex to Meghan casting Harry as a Dickensian figure in the 40th birthday video? and then Levin gets pushback from host JJ Anisiobi and she starts getting mad. Then she claims that she spent ?15 months with Prince Harry,? which is another lie she got 15 minutes with him over a decade ago and she hasn?t shut up about it since. She?s been dining out on that and calling herself a Harry-expert.
Then the conversation goes fully off the rails (around the 4:30 mark) as Anisiobi says ?It sounds like you?ve got a vendetta against Meghan Markle, that?s what it sounds like? and ?Angela, with respect, you sound like a troll. A social media troll.? That?s when Levin desperately tries to get her unhinged commentary back on track by bringing up Abigail Spencer?s Instagram post with the ARO jam. Levin starts whining about how Spencer?s IG post was ?a very set-up thing? which Levin thought ?how ridiculous, this is a jar of jam.? It?s like listening to the dumbest person ever describe something she saw on Instagram. Anisiobi proceeded to push back and say: yeah, of course it was a set-up, it?s Meghan promoting ARO, it?s PR. Levin then got huffy and turned off her Zoom.
Something similar happened to Levin on live TV back in September 2022, just after QEII died. Levin was invited to appear on a chat show via Zoom and she began spreading hate and lies about Meghan. Levin got some minor pushback and she basically started crying salty white Karen tears. I hoped that incident would be the end of Levin?s royal-expert career. It was not. So if anyone is going to have Levin on their show, please do what JJ Anisiobi did here. It?s not like he even came in with a dissertation about Meghan or anything he just pushed back on some of the most egregious lies she spouts on an hourly basis.

We rarely hear about the York princesses? jobs. Princess Eugenie is an associate director for the gallery Hauser & Wirth, and she actually seems to know a lot about art and the gallery seems to be supportive of her lifestyle (she lives part-time in Portugal). Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice has worked for Afiniti since 2017. Her title is Vice-President of Partnerships and Strategy. It?s an American company but Beatrice is based out of London, although we rarely hear about anything having to do with her job. Apparently, her job put her in the position to go in for some kind of tech conference? at Spotify?s London office. Spotify, the same company which ended their contract with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last year. Of course, in the Daily Mail?s coverage, they were obligated to reference Bill Simmons? ?fking grifter? comments in the first sentence. The Mail?s Emily Prescott also took a jab at Meghan for making jam. The bitterness is just oozing from this short story:
Harry and Meghan were blasted as f****** grifters by Spotify executive Bill Simmons after they made just 12 episodes, despite having an 18 million, multi-year deal with the streaming company.
But ripping up their contract hasnt put Spotify off linking with Royals ? as Harrys cousin Beatrice appears to be building a working relationship with the company without shouting from the rooftops, perhaps in fear of showing up Montecitos jam-makers.
I can reveal that last week Beatrice, 35, attended an industry event at Spotifys London office, where she hosted a discussion about the future of technology. Joining her were former Warner Bros Discovery boss Priya Dogra and Sakshi Chhabra Mittal, founder of science-based meal delivery service Foodhak.
Beatrice, eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, is no stranger to tech. Since 2017, she has been Vice-President of Partnerships and Strategy at US software and data firm Afiniti.
She is also, I can reveal, director of a company called BY-EQ, which she set up in 2022 under the unassuming name Beatrice York.

Instead, it?s a story about Beatrice attending a meeting and ?hosting a discussion? at Spotify?s office in London. That?s it. But anything to drag the Sussexes, I guess. I am curious about Beatrice?s BY-EQ though. What is that?? It?s a shame the British media is so Sussex-obsessed, they fail to cover genuinely interesting stuff involving the left-behind Windsors. Does Beatrice have a shell company? Is Eugenie still working for Hauser & Wirth? Is anyone actually living in Frogmore Cottage these days? And where they fk is the Princess of Wales? No answers, because the Mail would rather obsess about an American woman sending jam to her friends.

Remember when Cher loudly declared on television that she wouldn?t join the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame now ?if they gave me a million dollars,? and then two months later the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame announced her as a nominee? Well? guess who?s officially been named as an inductee!! And she?s in good company (whether she accepts or not); joining Cher in the Performer Category are Kool & The Gang, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest. Entertainment Weekly is calling this ?music?s highest honor,? so naturally it was announced by Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie on American Idol this weekend:
Drum roll, please! This year?s inductees into music?s highest honor ? the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ? are officially announced.
During Sunday?s ?Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night? episode of American Idol, host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie revealed that Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest are being inducted under the Performer Category, which honors ?artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll,? according to a release.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Four out of the eight inductees in the Performer category were on the ballot for the first time, including Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, and Frampton.
Cher?s induction comes after she publicly rebuked the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year for never nominating her. ?I wouldn?t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars,? she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in December. ?I?m never gonna change my mind,? she declared. ?I mean, they can just you-know-what themselves.?
The Rock Hall is also honoring the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield with the Musical Excellence Award, which is given to ?artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.?
Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton earned the Musical Influence Award, which goes to ?artists whose music and performance style have directly influenced, inspired, and evolved rock & roll and music impacting youth culture.?
And Suzanne de Passe is being honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which goes to a ?non-performing industry professional who?s had a major influence on the growth of the art form.?
Others who were nominated this year but not selected for induction include Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane?s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O?Connor, and Sade.
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will air live on Saturday, October 19, on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

As of this writing, Cher has not made a public statement in response to the news. And I hope she keeps it that way! Keep ?em on their toes!! The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame only thinks they?re the ones inviting Cher, when really it?s Cher who makes the rules, and who decides whether or not to call you back. And speaking of rules, I know I?m not the first to say this, but the whole Hall of Fame structure is so needlessly convoluted. With an awards show, I understand announcing a group of nominees, then revealing the winner in each category. But this deal of naming nominees to enter a club, and then cutting out some of that group? Why not just announce and induct the same set of artists at once?? What possible value was there in making the late great Sinead O?Connor a nominee and then not letting her in two months later? Anyway, congratulations to all the inductees ? if it means something to you. Something like the more than a million dollars Cher said she couldn?t be bribed with.

The car photos in this post are from Sunday, April 21. King Charles drove to and from Crathie Kirk for a Sunday church service. Camilla rode shotgun. As Beyonce said: Pedal so heavy, like the two most wanted, and I/Dont know what youre doin tonight, but I/Ill be your shotgun rider til the day I die. People didn?t understand that Beyonce and Miley were singing about Charles and Camilla, but it?s true! Charles and Camilla have been staying at Birkhall for (I think) about two weeks. I guess Camilla flew down to London last week specifically for her one Buckingham Palace event, then she flew back to Scotland?
Anyway, April has been a weird month for royal gossip and royal sightings. While the weeks on either side of Easter Sunday are usually quieter for the Windsors, I really didn?t think that both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace would go so silent for weeks on end. It looks like BP is steadily making plans for Charles to make a ?return to public life? in June. Not only with Trooping the Colour (scheduled for June 15th) but with Royal Ascot as well:
The King is understood to be keen to attend Royal Ascot this summer to ?honour the late Queen?s memory?. King Charles, 75, plans to spend ?at least? one day at the summer racing festival, which was a highlight in the late monarch?s calendar every year.
A racing source told the Mail on Sunday: ?Racing is an important part of the legacy that he inherited from his mother and one that he treasures. That?s why he will be so keen to go.?
The newspaper reported that he will host a lunch for a select ?bubble? of friends and family while there.
It comes as the monarch has taken a step back from his public engagements since early February while he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. He has continued to conduct state business behind closed doors, including his daily red boxes and weekly meetings with the Prime Minister, but has scaled down his public appearances on medical advice from his doctors.
However, aides have spoken of hopes that the King will continue to take ?gentle steps? back into public life after he attended an Easter Service in Windsor and undertook an unexpected walkabout to meet members of the public.
His treatment has not caused him serious side effects and the source has added that ?the road ahead is looking very positive? as diary plans evolve. Adjusted guidance from his doctors allowed him to undertake the public walkabout over Easter and it is thought that this would also allow him to see members of the public in the open air at Ascot in a few months.

To hear many royal experts talk about the Windsors? annus horribilis, there?s definitely a movement to make Charles?s condition sound quietly dire, like he probably won?t be around this time next year. It does feel like that?s a factor in the absolute panic we?ve seen from Kensington Palace and Prince William too, although I would argue that Charles seems to be handling all of this better than KP. All of which to say, Charles is projecting a tone of cautious optimism and I sort of buy it. I believe we?ll see him at Trooping and Ascot and he?ll probably host some garden parties too. The real question is: will we see the Princess of Wales at all in the coming months?

Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department has not landed well. This is maybe the first time in Swift?s history where it feels like a new album is being scoffed at, that the reaction almost across the board is a massive eye roll? Even from her fans, there?s a sense of ?wait, maybe Taylor didn?t need to share this much.? What I keep coming back to is how unnecessary this was too Midnights was well-received, even if some critics quietly noted that Taylor should get out of her Jack Antonoff-produced comfort zone. Still, it won the Album of the Year Grammy (another eyeroll) and there were several good songs on it, even I?ll admit that. It feels like she didn?t take the time in between Midnights and TTPD to really figure out what she wanted to say about Joe Alwyn and Matt Healy. It was supposed to come out as raw, hyper-emotional poetry but instead it?s come across as Taylor trauma-dumping on her fans about a really sh-tty guy (and her fans already knew the guy was a total sh-thead).
The American edition of Rolling Stone gave TTPD a rave review, and while they might mean it, as I read RS?s piece, I was struck by how dumbed-down the review was, as if the critic was trying to give 13-year-olds a history lesson on ?who is Patti Smith?? RS Germany had an even more disconcerting take on TTPD critic Ralf Niemczyk claimed that TTPD shows that Taylor is ?the better Adele.? Y?all. Leave Adele out of it she?s literally in a totally different league. Meanwhile, Paste Magazine?s review was so scathing, it?s served as some kind of seminal moment in the critical examination of Taylor Swift?s cultural impact. Whoever wrote this didn?t get a byline, apparently because that person doesn?t want to get doxxed by Swifties, because that?s where we are in this world. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Taylor?s TTPD announcement at the Grammys: Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this! When Taylor Swift took the Grammy?s stage last month to claim her award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, she saw that spotlight as an opportunity to announce her 11th studio album: The Tortured Poets Department. The follow-up cut to audience members?Swift?s music industry peers, mind you?told us all that we would ever need to know, and the collective disinterest across the crowd echoed through our TVs.
On the use of ?tortured?: In terms of popularity?certainly not always in terms of quality?no musician has been bigger this century than Swift, which makes it impossible to really buy into the ?torture? of it all. This is not to say that Swift being the most famous person in the world makes her immune to having multi-dimensional feelings of heartbreak, mental illness or what-have-you. But, she has made the choice?as a 34-year-old adult?to take those complex, universal familiars and monetize them into a wardrobe she can wear for whatever portion of her Eras Tour setlist she opts to dedicate to the material. Torture is fashion to Taylor Swift, and she wears her milieu dully.
This is brutal: This album will surely get comparisons to Rupi Kaur?s poetry, either for its simplicity, empty language, commodification or all of the above. And, sure, there are parallels there, especially in how The Tortured Poets Department, too, is going to set the art of poetry back another decade?as Swift?s naive call-to-arms of her own milky-white sorrow rings in like some quintessential ?I am going to take pictures of a typewriter on my desk and have a Pinterest mood-board of Courier New font? iPhone fodder. 2013 called and it wants it capricious, suburban girl-who-is-taking-a-gap-year wig back! Soaking our book reports in coffee or having our moms burn the edges with a kitchen lighter cannot come back into fashion; the cyclical notions of culture cannot make the space for such retreads.
Open the schools: The Tortured Poets Department does begin with a shred of hope that, just maybe, Swift knows what she?s talking about?as she sneaks in a cheeky ?all of this to say,? textbook transitional phrasing for poets, on opening track ?Fortnight.? But ?Fortnight? unmasks itself quickly as a heady vat of pop nothingness, though it isn?t all Swift?s fault. ?I was a functioning alcoholic, ?til nobody noticed my new aesthetic,? she muses, attempting to bridge the gap between a behind-the-scenes life and on-stage performance?only for it to occur while propped up against the most dog-water, uninspired synth arrangement you could possibly imagine. Between producer Jack Antonoff?s atrocious backing instrumental and the Y2K-era, teen dramedy echo chamber of a vocal harmony provided by out-of-place guest performer Post Malone, ?Fortnight? chokes on the vomit of its own opaqueness. ?I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary,? Swift muses, and it sounds like satire. This is your songwriter of the century? Open the schools.
When Swift is at her best: Swift is at her best either when she is clawing upwards (Reputation) or faced with nowhere to go but into the studio and noodle with the bare-bones of her own sensibilities (folklore). You get something like The Tortured Poets Department when the artist making it no longer feels challenged, where she strikes out looking.
TTPD is mid: The mid-ness of The Tortured Poets Department will not be a net-loss for Swift. She will sell out arenas and get her streams until she elects to quit this business (a phrase decidedly not in her vocabulary, surely). She will sell more merch bundles than vinyl plants have the capacity to make, and rows of variant LP copies will haunt the record aisles of Target stores just as long as Midnights has?if not longer. Perhaps, in five or six years? time, we will speak of this record just as we now do of Reputation. But right now, it is obvious that Swift no longer feels challenged to be good. The Tortured Poets Department is the mark of an artist now interested in seeing how much their empire can atone for the sins of mediocrity. Can Swift win another Album of the Year Grammy simply because she released a record during the eligibility period? The Tortured Poets Department reeks of ?because I can,? not ?because I should.?
Moral nothingness: On The Tortured Poets Department, there is a striking level of moral nothingness. The stakes are practically non-existent, and the album sounds like it was made by someone who believes that they had no other choice but to finish it, as if Swift fundamentally believes that her creative measures are firmly embedded in the massive monopoly her name and brand currently hold on popular music.

This is starting to remind me of another piece of Swift?s oeuvre, one which she would probably like to forget: Cats. Remember how Taylor was a cat in Cats, and remember how much fun critics had reviewing that bomb? Sometimes, when an artist makes a terrible piece of art, it brings out the best in reviewers and critics as they try to explain why the art is so God-awful. The thing is, even Swift-skeptics will probably find a few songs in TTPD that they like, but the overall feeling is one of apathy, partly driven by oversaturation. Taylor is going to do what she wants and right now, she wants to do too much. That?s her right. Just as it?s our right to say ?meh.?

From what I?ve seen and heard from Taylor Swift?s The Tortured Poets Department, I?m surprised by just how much of it seems to be about Matt Healy. Fans can argue that there?s a decent shot that some of TTPD is about Joe Alwyn and Travis Kelce (?You know how to ball, I know Aristotle/Brand new, full throttle/Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto?) and sure, I believe that Taylor is pulling from all three relationships. But still, Healy is all over this album. It sort of confirms something I long suspected, which is that Taylor and Joe ended months before we knew anything about it, and Taylor and Matt started months before we knew too. Remember how Taylor joined The 1975 on stage in January 2023? I?m pretty sure they were already banging by then. So, this was a secret ?affair? turned official relationship turned into catastrophe. Add to that, Healy was joining Taylor in the studio during their relationship and likely influencing her on a musical level. All of which to say, Healy at least knew that some of this was coming. According to the source, Healy?s family was thrilled with the way Swift, 34, sang about Healy, 35, in her highly-anticipated 11th studio album, which dropped on Friday, April 19.

Matty has struggled with life in the public eye, and he?s been doing really well, but the last thing that he needs is for every Swiftie in the world to think he?s a villain.?
A separate insider tells Us that Healy was ?really appreciative? to receive a heads-up from Taylor?s team about TTPD. ?He was worried that their story would be shed in a negative light,? the source explains, adding he had concerns ?the public wouldn?t get the full story.?
Healy was ?also very nervous about the Swifties,? ? a notoriously devoted fanbase ? but is ?happy he can move on with less anxiety.?

LOL, it sort of feels like Healy wrecked her life and left. He probably takes it as a compliment that she?s written all of these songs about him. That?s the way Harry Styles took it too, and he was another guy who left her after a few months Harry has always just breezed past questions about Taylor?s songs about him, but he compliments her as a songwriter. As for Healy, he?s just glad he won?t be getting the full Taylor?s Ex Treatment. Please, the Swifties were so happy when Healy and Swift called it quits, now they?re discombobulated because Taylor clearly loved that racist POS.
Meanwhile, Healy?s aunt gave an interview to the Daily Mail and she said that Healy is currently dating Gabbriette Bechtel and he is ?very happy? and focusing on his girlfriend.
