In 2019, Scooter Braun?s Ithaca Holdings purchased all of the masters held/owned by Big Machine. Those masters included Taylor Swift?s first six albums. Swift was furious. Swift and her fans went to war with Braun for a while, and within a year of the sale, Braun off-loaded the Big Machine property to Shamrock Capital for a tidy profit. In the past six years, Taylor ended up taking Kelly Clarkson?s advice Clarkson randomly tossed off a tweet back in 2019, advising Taylor to rerecord those albums and ask the Swifties to buy the re-recordings. Taylor did just that, and the ?Taylor?s Version? re-rerecordings were massively successful too. Well, after all of that, Taylor has now bought back her masters for her first six albums. The dramatic announcement came on Friday:
In one of the more dramatic business developments in pop music history, Taylor Swift has purchased her catalog of recordings that were initially released through Big Machine Records, after six years of transfers and turmoil. She acquired those six albums and associated visuals from their most recent owner, Shamrock Capital, for an undisclosed nine-figure sum, a price tag that is being characterized by Swift as exceptionally fair and reasonable.
The singer will be reissuing her old Big Machine albums, which were first sold by Big Machine against her wishes in 2019,. But now there will be two fully authorized versions of each of those albums in the marketplace, since she?s saying the re-recorded ?Taylor?s Versions? will continue to be available alongside the originals. Two of those bonus-filled editions have yet to come out, including the long-awaited ?Reputation (Taylor?s Version),? and her statement declares this deal won?t keep the remaining pair of do-overs from still being released.
News of a possible sale by Shamrock to Swift was first reported by the New York Post, but a source close to the negotiations disavowed elements of that story, saying the price tag reported was grossly inflated, and that there was no involvement of Scooter Braun. His Ithaca Holdings bought the catalog in 2019 before Shamrock acquired it from him a year later; he no longer participates in any profit from a sale, and Swift?s camp is adamant he had no part in Shamrock?s decision to sell.
Said the source close to the sale: ?Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who ?encouraged? this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor?s Nashville-based management team only. Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.?
The source added, ?The rumored price range that was reported is highly inaccurate.? While no price tag will be publicly forthcoming, insiders say the seller was interested in making a good-faith deal and the ultimate price was far closer to the $300 million Shamrock was reported to have paid in 2020 than the far more extravagant $600-million-to-$1 billion the Post hypothesized in its story.
Prior to this week, Swift fans were certain an announcement for ?Reputation (Taylor?s Version)? would be forthcoming on Memorial Day or thereabouts. But for those who still have that as their primary concern, the singer assured fans that her plans to reissue her original albums will not affect plans to put out the final two ?Taylor?s Version? editions, the other of which would be a new version of her debut album ? though she hedge a bit. Don?t expect the new ?Reputation? or ?Taylor Swift (Taylor?s Version)? any time soon, she cautioned in the note, even though songs from a partially re-recorded version of the former album have already been licensed for television (recently appearing in ?The Handmaid?s Tale?).
As she explains in her letter: ?I know, I know. What about Rep TV? Full transparency. I haven?t even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it. All that defiance, that longing to be understood while Feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief. To be perfectly honest, it?s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn?t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off. There will be a time (if you?re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch. I?ve already completely re-recorded my album, and I really love how it sounds now. Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about. But if it happens, it won?t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.?

Variety mentioned something which I didn?t know about the 2019 Big Machine sale not only did Taylor lose the rights to/ownership of her masters, she didn?t own the rights to her music videos, artwork and concert specials from that era. So now she has the rights to ALL of it, she owns all of it free and clear. As for the money? as Variety notes, their sources are saying that it was closer to $300 million. Page Six?s sources say the final figure was around $360 million. Which sounds like a lot, but consider this: she likely made around $2.5 billion just from the Eras Tour. So, she has the money and she used that money to buy her own work back. Good for her.

I remember when Nick and Vanessa Lachey first got together. It was after they met on the set of the music video for the song he wrote about his divorce from Jessica Simpson. It was so clich and I admit that I was skeptical that it would last. They have definitely proven me wrong! Nick and Vanessa have been married since July 2011 and have three kids, Camden, 12, Brooklyn, 10, and Phoenix, eight. They also work together as co-hosts of Love Is Blind. Nick just popped up on this week?s episode of SoFi?s financial podcast, Richer Lives. During his appearance, he had some advice for a successful marriage: ?Don?t bring your work home with you.?
Nick and Vanessa Lachey have been happily married for nearly 14 years ? and it?s likely thanks in part to following what Nick calls the couple?s ?golden rule.?
In an appearance on Richer Lives, SoFi?s branded financial podcast, Nick, 51, revealed the lesson he and Vanessa, 44, keep close to heart.
The best thing you can do is not bring your work home with you. Which is tricky when you work with your spouse,? Nick said on the episode, which premiered on Tuesday, May 27. ?I think we do a really good job of doing that, for the most part, but it?s not easy working with your spouse sometimes.?
The couple, who have been together since 2006 and married since 2011, have hosted the Netflix hit Love Is Blind together for the past five years.
?Sometimes you show up for work and there?s an argument at home that you brought with you to work and you dont want that to bleed over. And sometimes there?s arguments at work that bleed over,? he explained. ?You don?t want that, so, you know, it?s kind of good to compartmentalize and recognize that you?re here doing a job. Yes, you?re a married couple, and we?ve been together almost 20 years now, so I think that?s our golden rule, is don?t bring work home, don?t bring home to work. Try and keep it as separate as you can.?
In an interview with BRIDES in February, Nick and Vanessa revealed another secret to keeping their relationship strong: dedicating a day of the week to being intimate.
He?s like, What, schedule a sex day?' Vanessa said of Nick?s reaction. It sounds weird when you say that, so we decided: Wednesday ? hump day.
Though the NCIS: Hawaii star admitted they have fallen out of the routine after moving back to Los Angeles from Hawaii in August, Vanessa said she hoped to get back into it soon.
?I don?t want the time that we have for intimacy and connection to be taken over by logistics, but that?s our life,? she added. ?I think we?re coming into an age of having to have a hump day and a logistics day.?
The couple also talked about the benefits of couples counseling, with Nick noting that it?s normal to have disagreements after nearly two decades together.
?Anything that?s worth having takes work,? he said. ?To me, that?s a cornerstone of life, and marriage is no different. There?s no shame in that. There?s no perfect person. There?s just your person.?

I would bet good money that not taking your work home with you was a hard lesson that Nick learned after he and Jessica filmed Newlyweds. There were probably no lines drawn during that time period to separate their professional and personal lives. Hes said as much. I get what he means in terms of, ?If you have a bad day at the office, leave it there.? I don?t think he?s saying not to talk to your partner about a problem; he means don?t take whatever happened at work out on your loved ones at home. It?s solid advice and should be a golden rule in all relationships.
I read Nick and Vanessas interview back in February when they talked about scheduling sexy times, and I really appreciated their honesty. They?re not the first couple to admit to doing that and they won?t be the last. No judgment here! You gotta do what you gotta do to stay connected as a couple. For a couple that has managed to stay pretty private, we do have some insight into their marriage: scheduled sex and keeping work sh-t at work. Good for them.

But while I?m a curmudgeon on these ventures, the actual beauty industry is bullish on these celebrity endeavors. Kylie Jenner sold the majority of her brand to Coty six years ago, Rihanna & LVMH split Fenty Beauty (a multi-billion dollar brand), and now Hailey Bieber has sold Rhode. Hailey started her skincare/beauty company Rhode in 2022, and it grew really fast really quickly, with several ?hero? products. Hailey has been exploring her options and wanting to sell all year, and now she?s found a buyer: e.l.f. Beauty.
Hailey Biebers rhode is celebrating a major milestone. On Wednesday, May 28, it was announced that e.l.f. Beauty had signed a $1 billion dollar deal to acquire the brand.
Per a press release, Bieber, 28, will continue her role as founder and additionally serve as rhode?s chief creative officer and head of innovation, overseeing creative, product innovation and marketing. She will also act as a strategic advisor to the combined companies.
The release also states that rhode was the No. 1 skincare brand in Earned Media Value in 2024, representing 367% year-over-year EMV growth.
?We can?t wait to bring rhode to more faces, places, and spaces. From day one, my vision for rhode has been to make essential skin care and hybrid makeup you can use every day,? Bieber shared in a statement. ?Just three years into this journey, our partnership with e.l.f. Two weeks ago, Cassie testified against Sean Combs in his federal trial. Her testimony was a multi-day affair. Cassie was heavily pregnant at the time, and there were concerns that she would go into labor during her testimony, especially because of the stress of having to speak about everything Combs did to her. But she got through it with an enormous amount of bravery. Cassie gave birth to her third child this week:
Cassie Ventura is a mom again! The singer, 38, welcomed her third baby, a boy, with husband Alex Fine, a source confirmed to PEOPLE. TMZ was the first to report the news.
The news comes after a source confirmed with PEOPLE that she was taken to a New York City hospitals labor and delivery unit.

Combs? legal team didn?t like some of the evidence submitted in the fire-bombing situation, that?s why they asked for a mistrial. The judge said: nope.

Tay and Trav went on multiple vacations and there were barely any photos of them for months. But they?re slowly reentering the gossip culture they?ve been seen and photographed at various restaurants on the East Coast, and over the weekend, a fan got some photos of them in West Palm Beach. They had dinner at Harry?s, and they ordered $400 worth of food. When I was writing that story, I was like? why are they in Florida again? My first thought was that the Chiefs training camp has already started, but no NFL training camps dont officially start until July. It?s possible Travis is doing his own ?training camp,? I guess. In any case, People Mag confirmed that Taylor is down in Florida specifically because Travis needs to be there.

Whenever I think about Justin Timberlake, I think about his infamous ?This is going to ruin the tour? line during his DWI arrest. Can you believe that only went down last June? It feels like it was five years ago. Injuries aside, Justin?s tour is still happening, and he?ll be performing in Spain and Italy over the next few days. This past weekend, however, Justin did a show in the US. He performed at a music festival in Napa Valley. Since he was close(ish)-to-home (they?re based in Montana now), his wife, Jessica Biel, brought their two sons, Silas, 10, and Phineas, four, to watch their daddy perform. Jessica showed up in a 2003 Justified tour shirt with Justin?s face on it. Justin, in turn, surprised Jessica by wearing a t-shirt with a picture of her on it.
Justin Timberlake put down the Suit & Tie for something a little more Jessica Biel-centric at his latest gig ? and she returned the favor! The 10-time Grammy winner, 44, surprised fans on Saturday, May 24, when he took the stage at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival in a checkered jacket and white button-up, before removing both to reveal a distressed white shirt featuring his wifes face printed on the front.
Timberlakes T-shirt featured an early 00s photo of the actress wearing a white tank top and jeans. He paired the cut-up shirt with white pants, a chain necklace and some shades.
But he wasnt the only one wearing his heart on his short sleeves!
Biel, 43, was apparently in the crowd cheering on her husband during his set, as seen in snaps he later shared on Instagram. She showed her support by wearing her own piece of throwback JT merch for the occasion.

Okay?thoughts on the t-shirts? When I first saw the pics, I thought it was cringe and that the video felt staged. But after thinking about it for a little while, I find it kind of adorable? I mean, it?s definitely worth all of the eye rolls, but the videos give it better context, especially when Justin asks the boys (who are off-screen), who?s on his shirt. I wish wed heard their off-screen reactions too. It does seem like maybe Justin and Jessica are in a decent place, which is good for their kids. For their sake, I hope it stays that way because they do generally seem to just sort of tolerate one another. I showed the Instagram pics and videos to Mr. Rosie and his response was, ?Hey, even the most annoying people can do something cute once in a while.? Kinda like the whole broken clock is right twice a day theory. At the very least, they both know each others love language.

Well, the wait is over! On Saturday, Liz and Billy not only gave us some city glam, they also made their red carpet debut. They were in Rome for the opening of a new exhibit at the Palazzo Barberini museum and were joined by Elizabeth?s 23-year-old son, Damian. Liz and her boo dressed exactly as you?d expect them to, with Liz in a sexy hot Pink gown and BRC wearing his finest rocker chic cosplay.

The country music star, 63, and the actress, 59, made their red carpet debut as a couple in the Italian capital on Saturday, May 24 ? and they did it in style. The pair stepped out to a dinner celebrating the opening of the Orizzonti/Rosso exhibition, staged by the Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti, at Palazzo Barberini.
They were both glamorously dressed for the occasion, with Hurley making a striking statement in a bright pink, curve-hugging gown featuring a plunging neckline and dramatic trailing sleeves. Perhaps giving a little nod to her Austin Powers role, she wore 60s-inspired silver platform sandals. She wore her hair down, styled in soft waves, and accessorized with a pair of statement earrings.
Cyrus, meanwhile, sported his signature rocker edge in a pair of tight-fitting black pants detailed with silver medallions along the leg and a black jacket with leather accents. He topped off his look with a western hat, sunglasses and boots.
The couple was joined by Hurleys 23-year-old son Damian, who wore a red suit and sunglasses.

The pairs red carpet debut comes just days after a source told PEOPLE that Hurley doesnt care that fans dont understand her romance with the Achy Breaky Heart singer.
?Liz doesn?t care that skeptics don?t get it. She?s focused on the special things that they have in common, like country music,? the source said. ?She loves his Southern vibes. He?s very calm and happy around her.?

I don?t like it as much as the floral gown that she wore to the Hot Pink Party a few weeks ago, but I think it?s gorgeous. Damian?s red suit is?interesting. I?m not a fan of the cut or styling at all. I don?t hate the color, but it clashes with his mom?s dress. As for Billy Ray?s outfit, I stand by my assessment that he?s morphed into a Dollar Store Dave Grohl. You know he thinks the sunglasses make him look cool, but he is not pulling them off at all.

The Cannes Film Festival is finally over and done with, and we now have a few months to recover for the double-whammy of Venice and Toronto. First, let?s get to the Cannes Film Festival?s winners. While Jennifer Lawrence left Cannes with a lot of awards-season buzz, she did not pick up an acting award for Die, My Love. The acting awards went to Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent (a Brazilian film) and Nadia Melliti for The Little Sister. The Palme d?Or (the grand prize of the festival) went to an Iranian film, Un Simple Accident. The runner-up prize, the Grand Prix, went to Joachim Trier?s Sentimental Value. The Jury Prize went to two films: Sirt and Sound of Falling. Distributor Neon has now won the Palme d?Or six years in a row. Incredible.
Now, let?s get to the fashion. The last days of Cannes were surprisingly great when it came to fashion moments, too bad that most people were already burned out from all of the Z-listers traipsing around in terrible gowns. Let?s start with the queen, Cate Blanchett, who wore a custom Louis Vuitton. Why doesn?t LV make this kind of dress for their brand ambassadors, huh?
More fashion notes: Simone Ashley?s Vivienne Westwood dress is a DREAM and all of the fashion girls are obsessed; Viola Davis stunned in Gucci; Elle Fanning?s Chanel fairy-princess look is on brand, but I think she could do better; I?m not crazy about Aubrey Plaza?s Miu Miu or Margaret Qualley?s Chanel; Halle Berry (Cannes jury member) ended the festival in Dior, which was good except for the shoulders; Gillian Anderson?s Emilia Wickstead dress is truly one of my favorite dresses ever, that shade of green, the way she styled it, the cut, it?s all perfect.

Many years ago, the whole idea of an artist doing a Las Vegas residency was pretty much an announcement that the artist had given up and no longer had any cultural or musical relevance. That has changed significantly in the past twenty years, especially because so many top-tier musical talents would much rather have their fans come to them, rather than touring all over the world. Celine Dion, Adele, Britney Spears, Usher, Bette Midler, Cher, and on and on, they?ve all gotten paid huge sums for multi-year residencies in Vegas. Katy Perry did it too she had a three-year residency at Resorts World, a residency which ended last year. Apparently, no one in Las Vegas wants to ever see Katy again:
It?s a good thing Katy Perry is on the road ? because she no longer has a home in Las Vegas. The bubblegum popster had called the entertainment capital of the world her second home after sealing a residency deal at Resorts World for over three years, ending in 2024 ? and at first, hopes were high.
?There was a bidding war between Resorts World and Caesars ? and Caesars technically lost out ? but in the end, Caesars won,? a source said. ?The residency was a disaster for Resorts World, a complete failure.?
The source added, ?Katy was getting paid between $750,000 and $900,000 a show because of the bidding war and the entire run she underperformed and Resorts World lost money.?
While Perry does have a show planned for Vegas in this tour, it?s considered a one-off. Not a coveted residency, which my source says won?t happen again. The pop singer had a failed album last year, was the center of ridicule after the Blue Origin space flight and her tour has had lagging sales ? none of which has endeared her to any future Vegas endeavors.
?At the end of the day, Caesar?s won by losing the (Perry) residency,? the source added. ?No one wants to lose money like that in Vegas.?

It feels like a national pastime at this point, dunking on Katy Perry. But some of it is deserved. Maybe most of it is deserved. Katy had an excellent run, hit after hit, she was a one-woman pop factory. But something really shifted the culture shifted away from Katy, as she tried to churn out the same old stuff with the same old problematic producers. There are plenty of pop stars who figure out what?s next after their audience grows up and grows out of their music. Katy isn?t one of them. Anyway, this NewsNation piece feels like a much-delayed gloat from Caesar?s because they lost their bid. It?s also worth pointing out that with artists? residencies, it?s not purely about ticket sales it?s about getting people to travel to Vegas and getting them to gamble at the casino. You can?t judge any residency purely on ticket sales.
