| | Kate Winslet on weight-loss drugs: 'Do they know what they are putting in?' | | Added 5 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Kate Winslet is currently promoting her directorial debut, Goodbye June. It was written by her son Joe, who has adopted the professional name Joe Anders (his birth name is Joe Mendes). I learned something new in this Times interview with Kate apparently, her current husband no longer goes by Ned Rocknroll. He?s back to his birth name, Edward Smith. We?re no longer supposed to call him Ned Rocknroll?? I?m honestly shocked that they?re still together, but there you go. I haven?t covered a Winslet interview in a few years and I always forget how judgmental she is and how much sh-t she talks. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
How her parents reacted to her fame: ?Fascinated, proud, confused? It is odd to see your sister on the front of a magazine. But also they were worried, because the media was vile, singling me out for relentless bullying. I wasn?t ready to be a famous actress. I was so young, but I felt so invaded. Nothing was nice. People climbed into my garden. I couldn?t go to a shop. I was followed when I had a baby in the back of the car on my way to the paediatrician. It is abnormal and, to my dad, I was still that little girl he helped clean out the rabbit hutch every Saturday afternoon.?
She wants women to be happy with how they look naturally: ?But I feel like nobody cares any more. No one?s listening because they?ve become obsessed with chasing an idea of perfection to get more likes on Instagram. It upsets me so much.?
How women are all getting so much done, they look the same: ?Oh, it?s terrifying. I think no, not you! Why? It is devastating. If a person?s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look it?s frightening. And it?s puzzling because I have moments when I think it?s better, when I look at actresses at events dressed how they want, whichever shape ? but then so many people are on weight-loss drugs. It?s so varied. Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves. And do they know what they are putting in? The disregard for one?s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f***ing chaos out there.?
She?s mad about all of the cosmetic work: Yet what really upsets Winslet is not ?all the f***ing actresses? but the rest of the world, ?people who save up for Botox or the sh=t they put in their lips?. She screws up her face, showing me lines to prove that she ?hasn?t got anything in it?. She then squeezes the backs of her hands, making creases around her veins. ?My favourite thing is when your hands get old,? she beams. ?That?s life, in your hands. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70 and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is.?
She blames social media: To illustrate her exasperation she mentions a young woman she saw on a BBC news article about a car crash. ?She looked like a cartoon,? Winslet says, sighing. ?You do not actually know what that person looks like ? from the eyebrows to mouth to lashes to hair, that young woman is scared to be herself. What idea of perfection are people aspiring to? I blame social media and its effect on mental health.?
Her love of British culture: ?I love British culture. How in moments of unbelievable tragedy there?s always someone asking if they can have a pint and a packet of pork scratchings.? Football, pubs, sandwiches, ?crappy? hospital sofas, kind doctors ? it flows with the rhythm of this country?s life as it celebrates the ending of a life. I suppose this film is our way of saying, ?Make sure you?ve said everything you need to.? Because this country is useless at dealing with grief. All we know is that someone dies and you bury them in a mahogany box or they?re cremated. There?s no sense of ceremony about seeing someone off. But some people just die. I know somebody who held her dying mother and screamed, ?No, not now!? I mean, hell.?
[From The Times]
I have two simultaneous thoughts about Winslet?s comments about cosmetic work and women doing too much and looking unnatural. One, she?s right and it IS disturbing to see so many women, especially young women, feel like they need Botox and fillers and a face full of makeup just to exist in the world. Two, it?s a bit rich for Winslet to criticize women for not feeling like they?re ?enough,? because that?s part of the societal pressure on women that everything they?re doing is wrong no matter what. My little aside is that about a decade ago, I theorized that Kate got some major face work which is why her eyes and eyebrows looked so ?different? all of a sudden.

This is one of the wildest celebrity stories of the week. You know how many celebrities hate when regular people notice them or slyly take photos of them when the celebrities are out and about in real life? Well, Hilary Swank is one of those celebs. Not only does she hate it when a regular person takes her photo, she will get in that person?s face about it, even if she has no idea if the person actually took a photo. Apparently, Hilary Swank got in some woman?s face at LAX. The problem? The woman claims she didn?t take Swank?s photo. Oh, and the woman was actually taking her two kids on a Make-a-Wish trip to Disneyland. OMG.
Hilary Swank has allegedly apologized after a tense encounter with a woman she thought was taking her photo at LAX airport in Los Angeles.
?At baggage claim, I was walking next to Hilary Swank,? Jada Bafus told The Daily Mail on Wednesday, December 10, per Page Six. ?And I did a double take on her because it?s Hilary Swank and I am a fan of her movies and stuff.?
Bafus had been at the airport with her sons Mason, 7, and Jack, 4, whom she was taking to Disneyland on a Make-a-Wish vacation. The boys have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder that causes progressive loss of muscle. Bafus said she took out her phone ?because I got distracted? while trying to find her kids and husband.
?I just looked, like, you know, I was trying to call my husband,? she recalled. ?I wasn?t taking a picture.?
According to Page Six, Bafus had previously described the alleged encounter via a recent Instagram post, quoting Swank, 51, as saying, ?You got what you needed? Get what you came for? Enjoy that picture.?
?Ma?am ? I wasn?t trying a picture of you,? Bafus wrote, according to the outlet. ?I was trying to find my 2 terminally ill boys at baggage claim. But thanks for poking at a stressed mom on her kid?s Make-a-Wish trip. Iconic timing because she lived here in Spokane long ago!?
Adding an upside-down smiley face emoji, Bafus added: ?So random!?
In her interview with The Daily Mail, Bafus said that Swank ?hurt my feelings because I was starting my son?s Make-A-Wish trip, which she wouldn?t have known, but just one of those situations where it was one of my first encounters with a celebrity so I thought it was a little comical.?
She added, however, that the two-time Oscar winner reached out directly to apologize to her via Instagram and explained that she had not wanted her 2-year-old twins, Aya and Ohm, being photographed.
?I did not expect Hilary Swank to directly talk to me,? Bafus said. ?It was just, like, a ?Woah.? I was taken aback.?
Bafus? husband, Bryan, called the interaction ?unexpected? and wondered why Swank would ?snap back at anybody when you?re in that profession? but noted that they?re ?not upset? at her.
[From Us Weekly]
As Us Weekly notes, Swank did apologize on Instagram and asked that the woman not share it. The only thing I?ll say in Swank?s defense is that everyone?s stressed out at the airport, and Swank apparently had her kids with her, which added to the dispute (Swank thought that the woman was taking photos of her kids). But yeah?if this woman is to be believed, Swank was extremely rude, and that?s before we even get to the part about the woman traveling with her sons on a Make-a-Wish trip. I hope Hilary Swank felt like sh-t! I would in her place. I once texted something bitchy to my lawn guy, not realizing that he and his wife had just welcomed their first child the day before. I could not apologize fast enough! I still feel like sh-t about that.

Taylor Swift appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, ahead of the premiere of her Disney+ docuseries End of an Era. The concert film wasn?t enough, Taylor had to do a tour series! I don?t blame her for documenting all of it, truly. The Eras Tour was one of the most bonkers spectacles in music history. Taylor was particularly chatty with Colbert, and she was the only guest, so their interview, all told, was well over 30 minutes, and it was broken up into four videos (which I?m including below). She wore a $1,695 David Koma dress which has a sort of 1980s holiday-party vibe. I don?t know if Taylor does this on purpose, but her styling is so bad, you forget that she?s a billionaire with access to the best fashion and style advice in the world. She?s like, ?no, my bangs are awesome and this necklace really goes with the dress,? and she could not have worse style instincts.
As for the interview, she was cute she talked about her cats briefly and how they were on tour with her, she talked about the engagement to Travis, she talked at length about how she doesn?t want a home recording studio because she likes her homes to be chill and peaceful. Colbert pressed her on her five favorite Swift songs and she couldn?t come up with a hard-and-fast top five on the fly, but she did say that ?All Too Well? is probably her #1. It was a good interview, honestly.

| | Beyonce will be a co-chair for the 2026 Met Gala, her first appearance in a decade | | Added 7 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last month, Anna Wintour made several announcements about next year?s Met Gala. Money raised from the gala goes directly to the Costume Institute Museum, and next year?s exhibit is all about ?Costume Art.? That?s the theme of next year?s gala as well, the art of costuming and how costumes have affected fashion. Next year?s exhibition AND gala are being sponsored by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, as they continue to try to buy their way into cultural relevance. Well, now next year?s gala co-chairs have been named: Beyonce, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman.
The new Met Gala co-chairs have been announced, and it?s a high-powered quartet: Beyonc, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman will join Vogue?s Anna Wintour in hosting the star-packed event next May.
Williams, who has never hosted before, takes the role seven years after her younger sister and fellow tennis champion, Serena, was co-chair. Beyonc was honorary chair in 2013, and Kidman co-chaired in 2003 and 2005. Wintour, of course, oversees the annual event, a fundraiser that last year brought a record $31 million to the coffers of the Metropolitan Museum of Art?s Costume Institute.
The museum on Wednesday also announced a gala host committee, chaired by designer Anthony Vaccarello and filmmaker Zo Kravitz, and including musicians Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, LISA, Sam Smith and Yseult; dancer Misty Copeland; actors Teyana Taylor, Elizabeth Debicki, Gwendoline Christie and Lena Dunham; basketball player A?ja Wilson; models Alex Consani, Paloma Elsesser and Lauren Wasser; Vogue editor Chloe Malle; and artist Anna Weyant.
[From The AP]
Beyonce hasn?t attended a Met Gala since 2016, did you know that? She just stopped going, and she didn?t even come out for this year?s spectacular ?Superfine: Tailoring Black Style? theme. So? Beyonce is intentional, and I feel like she?s going to do something big around her first gala in a decade. The Beyhive already believes that this means Act iii is coming. Could be!! As for Nicole Kidman? she always lands on her feet, and it will be great to see her co-chair following her divorce from Keith Urban. And Venus is an American icon and a sentimental fave who loves fashion.

Taylor Swift was out last night in New York. She and her friend Este Haim went to Chez Marguax, one of several elite private clubs of which Taylor is a member. I actually thought this was Alana Haim, because damn, those Haim sisters look alike. But everyone swears it?s Este. Taylor?s look was appropriately wintery it?s been cold as fk this week on the East Coast and mid-Atlantic. Tay wore Louis Vuitton a $6,400 toggle coat and $2,370 boots. Crazy prices, but you?re paying for that visible Louis Vuitton patch on the coat. You could probably get something equally as cute for $60 at Burlington Coat Factory, but it wouldnt have the LV patch.
On Sunday, Taylor was in Kansas City, watching the Chiefs lose to the Houston Texans. As someone who doesn?t follow football whatsoever, it really feels like the Chiefs are having an exceptionally bad season. The Chiefs? next game is on Sunday, they?ll play the Chargers at Arrowhead. Will Taylor show up? Probably.
Incidentally, there?s a lot of sports-commentary chatter about the Chiefs? poor season and whether Travis Kelce will retire next year. There?s been chatter about Kelce?s retirement since the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl, to be fair. Stephen A. Smith told People Magazine: ?I think that you could see the handwriting thats on the wall. The guy is so talented and there are so many other things that he could do outside of football that now would be the time for him to step away. I will tell you that thats what I think hes going to do. Obviously he has a beautiful lady in his life, where theres a lot of good things for him to go home to. And so, because of that, I think the combination of all of those things. I sort of agree with this elite athletes dream of going out in a blaze of glory, and Travis clearly thought he had a chance to win one more Super Bowl, but maybe the signal for him to retire is the growing sense that he?s simply stayed too long. I don?t know! It?s up to him, but I?d hate to see him overstay his welcome like Tom Brady.

| | Pamela Anderson: Liam Neeson & I 'were romantically involved for a short while' | | Added 7 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Did everyone watch the new Naked Gun, which came out over the summer? I loved it it had fewer sight gags than the original films, but they captured the humor and energy. I absolutely loved Danny Huston in it too, he was fantastic! Anyway, Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson absolutely pulled it off. They were great in the movie, and they played on their real-life chemistry to sell the movie during the promotion. They even circulated rumors that they were dating in real life. Obviously, we later learned that whatever it was a situationship? ended soon after the film?s premiere. Well, now Pamela is explaining what really happened.
As she celebrates the close of her red-hot year, Pamela Anderson is ready to address what really happened with Liam Neeson, her co-star in the summer box office hit, The Naked Gun. While the headlines of their surprise romance were met with enthusiasm by many and skepticism by some, Anderson, 58, shares her memories of their private relationship for the first time in this week?s PEOPLE cover story.
?If you must know, Liam and I were romantically involved for a short while but only after we finished filming,? she says. The two spent an ?intimate week? together at his home in upstate New York. ?I had my own room,? she notes. ?Our assistants both came; even family stopped by.?
The pair ?went to dinner at a tiny French restaurant where he introduced me as the ?future Mrs. Neeson,? ? she continues. They spent time in his garden, where, she says, ?I tended to a rosebush overgrown with mint ? I was happy to help, and he appreciated.?
Following what she calls their ?romantic lost week? ? during which Neeson chased off a bear from the breakfast window in his bathrobe ? ?we went our separate ways to work on other films,? she explains.
?We were having fun,? she says, calling their connection ?a little bit like a Nancy Meyers film.
I always was laughing when people thought, ?Oh, that?s a publicity stunt.? I?m like, ?A publicity stunt? This is real. We have real feelings.? ?
?I adore Liam,? she adds, ?but we are better friends, in full honesty.? They reconnected while promoting The Naked Gun over the summer, cuddling and holding hands ? she even gave Neeson a playful swipe of her Sonsie lip balm on Andy Cohen?s What What Happens Live.
The two last saw each other in August when he surprised Anderson by coming to see her at the prestigious Williamstown Theater Festival, where she was performing in Tennessee William?s Casino Real. ?He is such a supporter of this new trajectory in my career and kindly tells me he is very proud of me,? she says. ?I?m sure we will always be in each other?s lives.?
[From People]
All of this sounds believable and plausible. Liam has had unimaginable loss in his life, and Pamela spent years with guys who did not treat her well. It was probably nice for Liam and Pam to just have a quiet friendship with some sexual tension and leave it at that. I?d be willing to bet that Liam is the kind of man who simply likes having a woman around as well, and I bet he loved having Pam at his home, tending to his garden and just bringing some feminine energy to his life. Anyway, I hope they make another Naked Gun!

The wide theatrical release of Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson?s new movie Song Sung Blue is on Christmas Day. It chronicles the story of Claire and Mike Sardina, a real-life couple from Wisconsin that formed the popular Neil Diamond tribute band, Lighting & Thunder, in 1989. So far, it?s gotten generally positive reviews from critics. My favorite quote about SSB comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which describes it as ?a sweet serve of feel-sad, feel-glad corn done right.?
On Monday night, Kate and Hugh attended the Gotham Awards, where they became the first recipients of the Gotham Musical Tribute award. After the awards, Hugh, Kate, and reportedly some of their other famous friends stopped by an Australian pub that?s near where the awards were held. While there, they put on a little ?impromptu? concert, singing three Neil Diamond songs: ?Forever in Blue Jeans,? ?Crunchy Granola Suite,? and, of course, ?Sweet Caroline.? At one point, Hugh even jumped up on top of the bar to encourage the whole pub to join in. Amazing.
Hollywood actors Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson have surprised pub goers at the Australian bar Old Mates Pub in New York City with an impromptu live performance. The co-stars, who play members of a Neil Diamond tribute band in the upcoming movie Song Sung Blue, sung three hits including crowd-pleaser Sweet Caroline, Forever in Blue Jeans and Crunchy Granola Suite.
During Sweet Caroline, Jackman made his way through the crowd to climb on top of the bar counter, asking everyone to raise the roof and make some noise.
At one point, he even took someones phone to film the performance.
The song is about Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy who was the ambassador to Australia from 2002 to 2024.
Jackman was also given the honour of ringing the Bells Beach Rip Curl Pro trophy donated to the venue by Mick Fanning.
The pub has become a regular spot for Aussie celebrity sightings since comedians and TV hosts Hamish Blake and Andy Lee opened it earlier this year.
[From ABC News Australia]
I mean, do you even bar, mate, if you don?t loudly belt out Sweet Caroline when it starts playing? It?s one of those things that?s both a staple and a rite of passage. Old Mates Pub posted pictures and videos of Hugh and Kate?s performance to their Instagram page, and it looked like a lot of fun. I love a good singalong, though, and am always game, even if I don?t know all of the lyrics. Yes, I am that person! If I were promoting a movie like this, I?d totally have my publicist set me up with fun stuff like karaoke rather than having to sit through a daylong press junket.
If you listen to the video (also embedded below), it sounds like Kate is really feeling it at one point and going for the harmony. She?s actually been getting a lot of praise and Oscar buzz for her portrayal of Claire. Hugh even said while accepting the Gotham award earlier in the evening that he thinks Kate?s going to win an Oscar for this performance. Speaking of the Oscars, I don?t think Song Sung Blue has an original song that would make it eligible for a Best Song award, but I wonder if this year?s ceremony will incorporate a duet by Hugh and Kate anyway. We shall see if they?ve oversaturated the demand for one or not, but they?re both performers who could bring down the house with a singalong a la ?I?m Just Ken.? Just saying! Oh and even if Kate doesn?t get Academy Award recognition, I?d like to nominate her for whatever award exists for swaying around and singing with a full pint of beer while wearing a white dress and not spilling one drop of it. That really is quite impressive.

Robert Downey Jr. is quite devoted to certain friends and costars. Gwyneth Paltrow is one of those friends he constantly shows up for Gwyneth and he?s one of her biggest hype men. Well, RDJ was the one who presented Gwyneth with the 20th annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the Women in Entertainment breakfast gala. His speech was partly a toast and partly a roast. You see, Gwyneth lives inside her own ass to the point where she has no idea who she?s working with within the Marvel films. This is a common enough story Gwyneth had to be repeatedly ?introduced? to Sebastian Stan, she had no idea that Samuel L. Jackson was in Endgame, and she completely forgot that she appeared in a Spider-Man movie. RDJ revealed that Gwyneth could not remember Tom Holland whatsoever.
It was a humorous and heartfelt reunion between Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. on Wednesday at The Hollywood Reporter?s 2025 Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, presented by Lifetime, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Before Paltrow ? who also graces the cover of THR?s Women in Entertainment issue ? took the stage to accept the 20th annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, Downey Jr. had some words of endearment as well as some playful digs at his former co-star and onscreen love interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paltrow played Pepper Potts, opposite Downey Jr.?s Tony Stark, across several films.
Downey Jr. didn?t waste any time before teasing her for being ?impossibly intelligent, yet forever confused by the basic tenets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its inhabitants? ? as she has frequently gone viral for forgetting key Marvel moments and even which of the superhero films she?s been in.
??Who?s that?? The Sympathizer actor said Paltrow once asked, to which he jokingly responded, ??That?s Spider-Man. He said his name was Peter. His character?s name is Peter. He?s Tom Holland. You?ve done four movies with him.?
[From THR]
People can make excuses for her, and the MCU is so crazy, I don?t blame her for forgetting that she has a small role in certain movies. But to consistently blank on so many of her costars is rude as hell, not to mention chronically self-absorbed. I?ll say this too if she forgets Tom Holland and Sebastian Stan to this degree, how do you think she treats below-the-line workers?

After the Prince and Princess of Wales played their ?crucial roles? as airport greeters yesterday, they delivered Germany?s President Steinmeier and his wife to Windsor Castle. There was some kind of procession and carriage ride, and then the Windsors and the Germans went inside the castle. This is a common thing for state visits: the Windsors show their guests various art pieces and historical items with an association to their visitors? home country. William and Kate were invited to take part in that event as well, and there are tons of photos of Kate preening in her black Burberry dress, with her newly long, pin-straight hair. In fact, everyone is seemingly in awe of how drastically different Kate?s hair looks from week to week. Suddenly, her hair is almost all the way down her back and there are absolutely no curls. Princess magic!
Meanwhile, it?s been known for years that Will and Kate suck at small talk and they?re both very dull conversationalists. Usually, their fallback position is just to talk about their kids and claim that their kids will be super-jealous of whatever is happening. ?George will be so jealous of this, he really wanted to meet Germany?s elected head of state!? Or perhaps: ?Charlotte is learning German!? But now Will and Kate have something new to chatter about: their manor home, Forest Lodge, which Kate is apparently decorating herself. The German First Lady asked her about it.
Kate Middleton is creating mood boards for her new home. The Princess of Wales, 43, discussed her familys recent move as she and Prince William welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and first lady Elke Bdenbender for an official state visit on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling examined the footage of the diplomatic greeting on behalf of Betfair Casino, revealing that Princess Kate and the first lady discussed the Wales familys recent move to Forest Lodge in Windsor.
Its wonderful to hear you have moved into a new home together,? Bdenbender said after the foursome had shaken hands, according to Hickling.
Prince William, Princess Kate and their children ? Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis ? moved into Forest Lodge during the kids half-term break from school in October and have been settling in as the holiday season begins. Kate famously decorated their familys previous royal residences at Adelaide Cottage, Nottingham Cottage, Anmer Hall and Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace ? sometimes undertaking large-scale renovations. She shared with Bdenbender that plans are underway for Forest Lodge.
We are putting together some mood boards for the room, and we will start after Christmas,? she told the first lady, according to the lip reader.
Can you send me pictures when they?re done? I?d love to see the outcome,? the first lady asked, to which Kate agreed with a smile.
Prince William was a bit more practical about the recent changes, admitting to the president that the house move has been rather challenging with elements of twists, but we?re tackling it.
[From People]
Mood boards? I bet. This isn?t even the first time Kate has used mood boards, just my guess. For years, we?ve said that Kate has Meghan mood-boards to style-stalk her sister-in-law. I wonder if Kate?s interior design mood-boards include some photos from Montecito. Wouldn?t surprise me in the least.

| | Halle Berry: Gavin Newsom devalues women in midlife, he can't be the next president | | Added 12 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Gavin Newsom appears to be making preparations to run for president in 2028. He?s one of a handful of Democratic governors with national name-recognition, he?s governor of America?s most populous state and the biggest state economy. To his credit, Newsom and his team are getting in Donald Trump?s face constantly as well, and they are not ?going high? whatsoever. But Newsom is, I suspect, still not ready for the national spotlight at a policy level. This week, Halle Berry rather spectacularly highlighted one of her big problems with Newsom: his veto on a bill which would create medical, professional and personal protections for menopausal and perimenopausal women.
Halle Berry spoke candidly about her opinion of a possible presidential run by California governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday at the New York Times DealBook Summit, declaring ?With the way he?s overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be the next president.?
Berry was objecting to Newsom?s lack of support for the Menopause Care Equity Act and his previous veto of a similar bill. Newsom is also appearing Wednesday at the summit.
If men ?had a medical condition that disrupted their sleep, brain function and sex life, we?d be calling that a health crisis on par with Covid, and the whole world would shut down,? Berry said. ?When women are struggling silently through perimenopause and menopause, trying to hold their families, careers, relationships and communities together, it doesn?t just affect women, it affects every household,? she told the conference in New York. ?It affects the workplace, it affects the economy. One in six women leave the workplace due to their menopausal symptoms. So it affects everybody.?
The proposed AB 432 would have mandated comprehensive insurance coverage for medically necessary menopause and perimenopause treatments, required doctors to complete continuing education on menopause and directed the medical board to develop a continuing education curriculum.
?I need every woman in this country to fight with me,? Berry said. ?But the truth is, the fight isn?t just for us women. We need men too. We need all of the leaders, every single one of you in this room ? this fight needs you. We need you to stay curious. We need you to ask questions. We need you to care even when the topic feels unfamiliar and uncomfortable.?
After Newsom failed to sign the bill in October, he said, ?Last year, I vetoed a substantially similar bill, stating that it would limit the ability of health plans to engage in practices that have been shown to ensure appropriate care while limiting unnecessary costs. That is still the case with this bill ? despite my call for a more tailored solution. This bill?s expansive coverage mandate, in conjunction with a prohibition on UM, is too far-reaching.?
But Berry had countered that insurance premiums would not be substantially affected. Berry, who has been advocating for more attention for women?s health issues, finished her nearly 15-minute speech by saying, ?At this stage of my life, I have zero fks left to give.?
[From Variety]
It sounds like an incredible bill which could have been a national leader in protections for women of all ages. It sounds like the kind of bill where a lot of women?s advocates and women?s health advocates came together to put together something thorough and well-thought-out. And Newsom just vetoed it out of hand because, in his own words, he worried that it would cost insurance companies too much to ensure quality healthcare to menopausal women. Halle is badass for talking about this, and her comments will get national exposure.
