True story: I haven?t read Wuthering Heights since high school. It never captured my imagination like Jane Eyre, which I?ve reread several times in adulthood (and I still love). I acknowledge that Heathcliff and Cathy are iconic and that many people have strong feelings about any and all adaptations of the material. It feels like Jane Eyre is the easier book to adapt, and as such, there have been so many film and TV adaptations. Well, Emerald Fennell is going to change that. She?s adapting Wuthering Heights for the screen after the surprise (?) success of Saltburn. Fennell?s films have been consistently produced by Margot Robbie?s Lucky Chap, and I guess Emerald wants Wuthering Heights to be Margot?s postpartum comeback role. And Emerald wants Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff? Oh no.
In what is gearing up to be an A-list pairing for Emerald Fennell?s Wuthering Heights movie, MRC is tapping Oscar-nominated actress and producer Margot Robbie and BAFTA-nominated actor Jacob Elordi to star in the adaptation of the classic novel.
LuckyChap also will produce Fennell?s upcoming feature film adaptation based on the iconic romance novel by Emily Bront. Besides being the studio on the project, MRC also will finance the pic.
This marks LuckyChap and Fennell?s third collaboration together, having also produced her most recent pic Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, which won Fennell an Oscar for original screenplay.
Robbie is set to star as Catherine Earnshaw, and Elordi will play Heathcliff. Fennell is set to write, direct and produce. The film is in pre-production gearing up for a UK shoot in 2025.

Because I don?t have super-strong feelings about the material, I don?t really care that Emerald is going to put her stink on a classic novel. But even an ambivalent B like me is side-eyeing these casting choices. Elordi as Heathcliff? REALLY? Margot might do an okay job as the grown-up Cathy, but it feels like Fennell is being super-chaotic. I bet the script will be painful too.

It started when the Guardian released their interview with Janet, the bulk of which was about her career?s ups and downs. The Guardian journalist then tagged on some political questions at the end, and that?s when Janet beclowned herself. She started saying crazy sh-t about human trafficking and then said that she ?was told? that ?they discovered? Kamala Harris?s father and he?s white. Kamala Harris?s father is a Black man from Jamaica. It was also like Janet could not comprehend how Harris could be biracial, Black and Indian. Weird considering Janet is the mother of a biracial child. But I digress. After the Guardian piece dropped, a guy named Mo Elmasri claimed to be Janet?s manager and issued a few apologies for the interview on Janet?s behalf. A short time later, Janet and her manager-brother Randy disputed the apologies and said Elmasri does not represent Janet and she?s not apologizing. You can always count on the Jackson family to be messy as hell. Well, there?s more.

Amid the fallout from her comments about Kamala Harris? race and her camp?s chaotic attempts to manage the situation, insiders are pointing fingers at her brother and manager, Randy Jackson. Sources say that the PR disaster proves that Randy is too inexperienced to handle her affairs and has become too loud a voice in her ear.
The criticism on social media was swift and devastating, while comedian DL Hughley blasted the interview as sounding like a ?Trump rally? and even took a shot at the singer?s plastic surgery. ?It?s a little ironic to question whether someone is black while you?re breathing through the nose of a white woman!,? he wrote on X.
We?re told that her inner circle was perplexed by the interview, and fear that the fallout could be more severe than that of ?Nplegate? after her infamous Super Bowl performance 20 years ago ? because her comments could tarnish her sterling reputation as a champion of marginalized groups.
?How can she sing about ?Rhythm Nation? and make comments like that?,? said an insider, ?It doesn?t even sound like her. She?s so methodical. I don?t know what made her do this.? The source adds that Jackson, who lives in London, ?doesn?t really watch the news anymore. She does live in a bubble,? they added.
We?re told Janet learned of the outrage while partying with her crew, including designer Christian Siriano, in Paris. ?Janet and Randy?s attitude was to just let it blow over. They weren?t planning to address it,? another source told us.
Meanwhile, a man named Mo Elmasri, claiming to be her manager, issued an apology on her behalf to Buzzfeed ? only for her publicist to walk it back in Variety, and declare Elmasri doesn?t work for Janet. They further said the Jackson siblings would not be commenting on the interview as they are mourning their older brother, Tito, who passed away last week. Things got even more confusing after People magazine published another apology, which it updated after the rep told them he does not represent Janet in any capacity, according to the article. Elmasri later alleged Janet and Randy fired him ?after attempts to improve her image in front of public opinion and her fans, and this is something I do not deserve.?
This isn?t the first time Elmasri has claimed he managed Janet. In August, he announced the singer?s upcoming Las Vegas residency as her manager. Janet?s publicity team later sent out an official announcement, but curiously didn?t address Elmasri speaking on the singer?s behalf then. But multiple sources insists, ?No one [in her camp] knows who he is!? Another source told us they?ve ?never heard of this guy?s name in my life,? and believes, ?Randy brought him on.?
?[Randy?s] sabotaging her legacy because he?s not saavy. She?s giving Randy control, and no one understands how he?s managing her, when he?s never had a career. She pays for everything,? they claimed.
They further told us Janet listens to Randy, who is a ?Trump supporter and conspiracy theorist. Janet?s bubble is small, and she listens to Randy. She does peddle in conspiracy theories,? they added.

She?s been isolated by Randy, who keeps spewing MAGA conspiracies at her, and then he puts her in front of a journalist? I also worry that we?re infantilizing Janet she?s a grown woman, she?s responsible for being an informed citizen. She?s 58 years old, she absolutely knows better than to spew lies and conspiracies in general and in an interview.

One of the many underreported stories this year is the relative disappearance of Melania Trump. She?s barely left Mar-a-Lago all year, and she?s flatly refused to travel with her husband to any campaign events. Her sole ?campaign appearance? by her husband?s side this year was at the Republican National Convention. She did not make a speech, but she was on stage with him on the final night of the RNC. Apparently, she has made a handful of quiet speeches and appearances at fundraisers, always solo. And now we know how Donald Trump got Melania out of MAL the Trump campaign likely paid Melania six figures per appearance, although no one is actually sure where the money came from. They just know that money has been funneled to Melania personally for her rare public outings.
Melania Trump has barely been seen on the campaign trail this year. One of the few times she has appeared at a political event, she?s received a six-figure paycheck ? a highly unusual move for the spouse of a candidate.
The former first lady spoke at two political fundraisers for the Log Cabin Republicans this year, and she was paid $237,500 for an April event, according to former President Donald Trump?s latest financial disclosure form. The payment was listed as a ?speaking engagement.?
Trump?s latest disclosure form said Melania Trump was paid by the Log Cabin Republicans for the April fundraiser. But it?s a mystery who actually cut the check: Charles Moran, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, told CNN earlier this month the group did not put up the money for her to speak, and the disclosure form did not give any more information about the source of the payment.
Ahead of the other fundraiser in July for the conservative LGBTQ group, a person familiar said at least one request was made to a donor about a similar payment. It?s unclear whether Melania Trump was ultimately paid. The campaign has not put out the financial disclosure for that period. The source told CNN that Ric Grenell, former ambassador to Germany and a Trump ally, was the one who made the request on behalf of Melania Trump. Sources said Grenell has also helped the former first lady with other business ventures.
Campaign finance and government ethics experts say a payment to a presidential candidate?s spouse to appear at political fundraisers in an election is unusual, ethically questionable and should, at the very least, be properly noted in the disclosure forms. ?It seems pretty self-serving. From my own general observation, I?m not used to seeing that,? said Virginia?Canter, the chief ethics counsel at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics.
Sources supportive of Melania Trump who attended the Log Cabin Republican events and didn?t know she got paid for at least one of them defended her, saying it?s her right to decide how to spend her time and to get paid for her time. One person close to Melania Trump said she has decided ?my best and highest use is where I am,? adding that ?she?s a priceless, timeless asset? for Donald Trump.
Records show Melania Trump was also paid $250,000 for a Log Cabin Republican event in December 2022, one of three payments for $250,000 or more that she received for speaking that month, just after the former president announced he was running for reelection, according to Donald Trump?s prior year financial disclosure form. One of the events took place in Florida, and the other was for a California group, Fix California, which was founded by Grenell. Grenell did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

It may seem unimportant in the grander scheme of things, but from my conversations with female voters, they are actually paying attention to the personal lives of the candidates, and they care about the fact that Melania is not supporting her husband on the campaign trail, just like they care that Doug Emhoff is his wife?s biggest and most vocal supporter. Like, voters fking love Doug. Voters think Melania despises her husband. Anyway, this is a drop in the bucket when it comes to the FEC violations of the Trump campaign. All of those MAGA cult members sending their money to Trump, just know that you?re paying Melania to speak to gay Republicans and pretend to tolerate her husband for one night a year. Melania didn?t even go to the debate! She?s so over it and shes just grifting, like everyone else in MAGAland.

Last Thursday, Oprah stepped into the political arena once again. She hosted a town hall/forum with Kamala Harris in Michigan, an important swing state. Many celebrities Zoomed into the town hall, including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock and more. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not Zoom in. No one was expecting them to. But! It would have been weird if they went the entire election cycle without saying anything, right? Which is why Archewell staff posted a message reminding people to vote and talking, in vague terms, about the stakes of this election. Vanity Fair also reported that Harry and Meghan ?have no plans to endorse a candidate right now.? Which makes me wonder if Meghan plans to do a low-key endorsement right before the election. In any case, the Telegraph has combined these two things the Oprah-Kamala town hall and the Archewell GOTV post and come up with the biggest question facing the British public in the year 2024: why weren?t Harry & Meghan in Michigan, supporting Kamala Harris? Some highlights from another ridiculous article:
The Michigan town hall: There was no sign of Duchesses For Kamala or Sussexes For Harris. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are, The Telegraph can disclose, deliberately going out of their way to stay out of the US elections This goes some way to explain why the Duchess, despite her close ties to Winfrey, the queen of US television, did not add her endorsement to Thursday?s event, a huge show of support for the Democratic contender in the tightest of presidential races. Other major celebrities did, including such Hollywood royalty as Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Bryan Cranston.
Meghan?s political ambitions: Another reason why the Duchess might have been expected to attend is that for some time there have been reports of her political ambitions, all of them denied. The rumour mill has even gone so far as to suggest that the Duchess made tentative inquiries to replace Ms Harris as senator in California when she became vice-president. The claim has been branded ?implausible? and ?ridiculous? by sources close to the Duchess.
Meghan?s 2020 call to Gavin Newsom: Four years ago, the Duchess spent an hour on a direct call with Gavin Newsom, the golden state?s charismatic governor and an ally of Ms Harris, to discuss her arrival in Montecito, the wealthy town on the fringes of Santa Barbara that is now home to the Duke and Duchess. The call was made in mid-October, two weeks before the 2020 US election and at a particularly sensitive time. The Biden-Harris triumph left a Senate seat vacant that under convention was in the gift of Mr Newsom to fill. He was under pressure to replace Ms Harris, at the time the only black female senator, with a candidate of the same sex and ethnicity. In the end he plumped for Alex Padilla, the first Latino to represent California.
More details on this mysterious call: Details of the call between Mr Newsom and the Duchess of Sussex remain private but it is thought the Duchess, a former actress in the US hit show Suits, was keen to let the Democratic governor know she was supportive of him. The Duke was also on the call, The Telegraph understands. It is not clear who initiated the call and what precisely was discussed but it likely would have included discussions about security and the logistics of having a branch of the Royal family in California.
Why are the Sussexes? reluctant to be politically engaged this year? The contrast with four years ago is marked. In September 2020, when Donald Trump was going toe-to-toe with Joe Biden, the Duke and Duchess appeared on camera with a personal appeal to American voters to register in order to ?reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity?. Trump reacted badly. ?I?m not a fan,? he remarked of the Duchess before wishing Prince Harry ?a lot of luck?. In spring this year, Trump warned that ?appropriate action? should be taken if it turned out the Duke had lied on his US visa application over taking cocaine, magic mushrooms and marijuana in his youth?The couple?s reticence to enter the political fray might well be understandable in light of a possible Trump return to the White House. He is not known for being forgiving.
Republicans buy jam too: It is possible that in trying to make the [ARO] business venture work, the last thing the Duchess would want to do is appear divisive by backing one political party over another. Meanwhile the Duke, according to reports, is trying to patch things up with London. The last thing he wants is a further political row to muddy those waters.
Maybe the Democrats don?t want the Sussexes! And then there?s the distinct possibility that the Democrats just don?t want the Sussexes? support. The Duchess is a figure who is both loved and hated. In a tight election, Ms Harris cannot afford to lose voters, however unlikely that might be as a consequence of an endorsement from the Californian exiles. And then there?s this from a Democratic strategist in California, who knows the governor and the party machine there. ?With all due respect to Meghan Markle,? said the source, ?given the star power that we have in California, she?s kind of in the minor ranks of them to be honest.? Ouch.

This kind of obsession is unhealthy from the Telegraph. I know Harry prefers to deal with them, but they?ve shown their asses hundreds of times in recent years. So, let?s break this down. Harry doesn?t vote and can?t vote in America, so he makes a point of not endorsing anyone. Meghan is an American citizen and she votes. She spoke out against Donald Trump eight years ago and Trump and the MAGA cult have attacked her ever since. On the other side, Kamala Harris has been nothing but supportive, and I 100% believe that Meghan is equally supportive of her former senator. The Telegraph is really trying hard to miss the point, which is that it doesn?t matter if Meghan endorses Harris-Walz. The Democrats have a huge amount of celebrity support already, and Meghan?s endorsement really would just be a drop in the bucket. Meghan isn?t Taylor Swift nor does Meghan need to do some Swiftian damage control after publicly hugging a Trump supporter. We know where Meghan stands politically. And we also know that Trump would have his supporters burn Meghan in effigy if she endorsed. Now, all that being said? I still hope that Meghan says something or does something. Every little bit counts. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing, damn the consequences or the heat you might get.
