Always ready with a witty word, Rihanna is fascinating in her new interview with Miranda July for T, The New York Times Style Magazine.
The ?B*tch Better Have My Money? singer explains why she?s not interested in dating right now- ?Guys need attention. They need that nourishment, that little stroke of the ego that gets them by every now and then. I?ll give it to my family, I?ll give it to my work ? but I will not give it to a man right now.?
Ri-Ri also discusses ?being a young black woman with power in America,? noting, ?You know, when I started to experience the difference ? or even have my race be highlighted ? it was mostly when I would do business deal. And, you know, that never ends, by the way. It?s still a thing. And it?s the thing that makes me want to prove people wrong. It almost excites me; I know what they?re expecting and I can?t wait to show them that I?m here to exceed those expectations. But I have to bear in mind that those people are judging you because you?re packaged a certain way ? they?ve been programmed to think a black man in a hoodie means grab your purse a little tighter. For me, it comes down to smaller issues, scenarios in which people can assume something of me without knowing me, just by my packaging.?

Stepping out for some promotional duties, Olivia Wilde showed up at the Sunshine Landmark Theatre in New York City with her fianc Jason Sudeikis on Sunday night (October 11).
The ?House? hottie was in the house for the premiere of her new movie ?Meadowland,? and she looked drop-dead gorgeous in a white and red silk gown with floral accents, paired with red heels and diamond earrings.
Olivia previously explained that being a mother greatly enhanced her ability to play her role in the flick- ?I think anyone who becomes a parent, their heart expands, and you empathize on a different level. That's what I think was required to tell this story as it should have been told. I don't know if I would have been able to play Sarah without being a mother. It's actually kind of a gift of motherhood: You're in touch with different levels of emotions. I think it's all very connected.?

Former pro hockey player Sean Avery married model Hilary Rhoda over the weekend in Water Mill, New York. Everyone found out about their wedding date and location last week, when Avery was arrested for criminal mischief and possession of two acetaminophen and oxycodone, seemingly without a prescription. The criminal mischief charge was because Avery was apparently throwing objects at passing cars. When the cops arrested him, he had the oxy on him. So, it was? weird. A weird story. A weird pre-wedding story.
But since the show must go on, Sean and Hilary went through with it and we have some of the photos of her wedding gown. The bride wore Carolina Herrera ? it?s an ivory column with ?grosgrain detailing? that looks black and green. Weird colors for a wedding gown, right? I mean, I could see having one or the other ? like, some small green details or some small black details, but not all together on what?s supposed to be a wedding gown. It looks more like a red carpet look than anything else.
Anyway, congrats to the happy couple. It seemed like a lovely wedding and it?s nice that they weren?t stressed out about the paparazzi. While I have some questions about them as a couple, I wish them the best. Especially since the groom seems to like to throw sh-t at moving cars while hopped up on oxy.

Drew Barrymore covers the upcoming issue of InStyle. Drew favors too-young pastel makeup with a bright lip, and she’s usually styled like that on the red carpet and in ads for her Flower makeup line. I don’t think that look suits her, so it’s nice to see her in some muted browns with a darker lip on InStyle. She looks much prettier and more mysterious somehow.
Drew is promoting her new book, Wildflower, which is a series of essays written for her two daughters, Olive, 3, and Frankie, one and a half. She’s also starring in Miss You Already with Toni Collette, which opens November 3. In InStyle, Drew talks about body image and about talking to her daughters about her wild past. Drew can come across as an oversharing earth mother, but I liked what she had to say here. It sounds like she’s mellowed lately.
First and most important to Barrymore is to know thyself, and to then have a sense of humor about thyself. ?I am who I am and I just don?t have a bikini body,? she says. ?I don?t even have a one-piece body anymore! But I am loving the long rash guard, board-shorts look.?
Though it?s not always easy to be so laid-back about it. ?I?ve beaten myself up about not being a certain thing. If someone says, ?Let?s go to the beach today,? my first thought is, ?F??, what am I going to wear?? I remember when Amy Schumer was on Ellen, she called her midsection a ?lava lamp.? I thought, That was perfect! That?s what I?ve been trying to say. But then I saw her in Trainwreck, and she looked so good in a tiny bra and short skirt. I was like, ?No, you don?t have a lava lamp.??
She is more focused these days on passing on what she?s learned from her rollercoaster childhood. ?I?m not going to pretend to my daughters that I?m pure as the driven snow? The best I can do is open up my heart to them. That?s soul-baring enough,? she explains. ?Making bad decisions doesn?t make you a bad person. It is how you learn to make better choices.?
And one better choice she intends to make? Not embarrassing her kids with her new book of personal essays, Wildflower, which she calls ?a love letter? to her daughters. ?My own mother, Jaid, wrote a book on sex, and it was the most mortifying feeling in the world,? she says. ?So I know how a child feels when their parents put themselves out there too much, and I will never do that to my daughters. There are some things about your parents you just don?t need to know.?

Drew’s second child is only a year and a half old, but in her business she’s expected to snap back immediately. She’s previously said that weight loss is difficult for her and that “I?m having to work my ass off until I even think about getting it off,” which is refreshing to hear. So many Hollywood mothers act like it’s simple and like they’re losing weight just running after their kids. Drew will tell you that it’s hard and that she’s not comfortable wearing a bikini yet.

Here are some photos of Gwyneth Paltrow at Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon on Friday. Given the event, is it weird and un-feminist that my first thought was ?what?s going on with Goop?s face?? Is this Botox? She seems suspiciously? smooth. Gwyneth?s white dress was from Brandon Maxwell’s Spring 2016 collection. I like it, surprisingly. It genuinely looks good on her. Gwyneth apparently came to this event with ?official? boyfriend, Brad Falchuk, but they didn?t walk the carpet together.
On the carpet, Gwyneth chatted with People Magazine about her daughter, Apple, who is now 11 years old. Apparently, Apple is a big Taylor Swift fan, which Goop approves of. Gwyneth told People: ?She loves Taylor Swift, and for me, that?s such a great sign. Taylor is a girl who?s incredibly talented. She writes her own music. She?s not naked on the red carpet. She?s an incredibly astute businesswoman, so with role models like that, [Apple] can?t go wrong.? Gwyneth also believes that Apple?s generation will change the world: ?I really think that that generation is going to do something very special. Those girls, they are so in their power. They are absolutely shameless in terms of their femininity, and I think we?re on the verge of something really exciting.? I don?t get how someone can be ?shameless? about their femininity?
Then, during her speech at the luncheon/forum, Gwyneth said more words about sexism and Hollywood. Some highlights:
?Ambition? used to be a bad word: ?When I was a young women in Hollywood, if you were a woman focused on building your career, you were labeled ambitious, and that was a bad word. So, I was decidedly not, and developed a ?Oh, how could this happen to me?? approach.?
She was always too smart for Hollywood: ?I was told to temper my use of SAT words in interviews because it made me ‘unlikeable’.?
The change in Hollywood: She said we?re ?on the verge of creating a new archetype,? where it?s possible for a woman to be ?naturing, maternal, sexual?Power of women rings a bit differently. Fear of how we are perceived seems to be waning and things are being brought to the life. We are empowering each other. We are banding together to support each other. Yes, we suffer some slings and arrows along the way, not me obviously. I feel those slings and arrows fortify us.?

While I think Gwyneth is probably smarter or at least of average intelligence compared to her contemporaries in Hollywood, she?s never struck me some brilliant woman purposefully hiding away her intelligence lest she intimidate too many people. The sheer fact that she honestly believed ?ambition? was a dirty word for women in Hollywood proves that her SAT-prep work was an uphill battle.

Here are some photos of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard at last night?s BFI London Film Festival premiere of Black Mass. Amber wore her hair in curls (looks nice) and she got all decked out in this lingerie-looking Dolce & Gabbana. I don?t really think this is dressy enough for the outing, but she looks fine. I mean, compared to Depp? she looks fine. If you can get past Depp?s three diamond hoop earrings, vest, three necklaces, lifts (seriously, look at those shoes) and what I think is an old-fashioned pocket watch with a chain, then maybe you?ll notice that he?s still looking kind of bloated.
You know what surprises me a little bit? That Amber hasn?t gotten pregnant. I know she thought that marrying him would be great for her career (she was wrong), and she really thought she would be working non-stop, but I thought she would get pregnant sooner rather than later. Guess I was wrong! Anyway, Depp has a new interview with The Telegraph ? you can read the full piece here. He chats about Whitey Bulger, his relationship with Vanessa Paradis and some weirdness with some of his real estate holdings.
Depp wanted to meet Bulger: “I made a request through his attorney to sit down with him to attempt to sponge some mannerisms and voice and take as much as I could from him. I wasn’t interested in asking him about his crimes or anything like that, I just wanted some personal idiosyncrasies. But I got the message back to say Jimmy had declined my visit because of his dislike for the book and especially his dislike for the two Boston Globe reporters who had nagged him for 20 years.”
He sees the humanity in Bulger: “What attracted me to Jimmy Bulger were the various facets of his personality and his humanity because I felt that the only way I could approach playing a character like him was to find his human side first and then map that out to see where it took the turn. He was a very complicated man. I think there’s a very sensitive side to him and he could be a caring, lovely family man who worshipped his brother and was very loyal to the community. There was something poetic about what he was able to do, being a proud Irish immigrant, loyal to his neighbourhood, a great caregiver to his mother and very close to his brother. But his business was violence. He would take old ladies’ groceries to their house and 10 minutes later he would crush someone’s skull. So I walked the tightrope to show a very dark side but at the same time a human, caring side.”
His relationship with Paradis: ?Vanessa and I get along wonderfully. There?s no weirdness at all and no hostility. Life happens and we spent 14 great years together and have raised a couple of kids who we are both incredibly proud of.”
His daughter Lily-Rose becoming a celebrity/model/actress at 15: “What is happening with Lily-Rose is something I didn’t expect this early, for sure. But things happen when they happen. Her becoming an actress was never my hope or dream for her but that’s what she enjoys doing. So I am very proud of her because she is super together and a sharp, sharp kid. She tells me everything and if she needs any advice I am there. But yeah, it’s happening pretty fast and when I see her with all that make-up and stuff, it’s disturbing.”
The huge property he owns in France: “I don’t know why it was ever put up for sale. It was never my idea, so I had it pulled off the market. The place has been very good to me and I watched my babies grow up there. I don’t believe I could ever let it go, because when I become smoke I would love for them to have their kids there.”
He?s still a rock star, man: “Music is still part of my life. But I hate the idea of people coming to see me play the guitar because they’ve seen me in movies. You want people who are listening to be only interested in the music.”
He just wants simplicity: “Simplicity, that’s what I want. It’s been a rare commodity for me for a number of years, but I enjoy being able to hang out with my girl, read the newspaper and sit back and start to read a book by someone I admire like Lawrence Krauss or Christopher Hitchens. And that’s it ? simplicity, where the game of Hollywood doesn’t exist.”

Cate Blanchett must have had so much fun putting together her wardrobe for this past week of promotional work, because she has been killing it. I covered some of her looks on Friday ? go here to see. These photos are from the Friday night screening of Carol in NYC. Cate decided to mix it up in an interesting way with this Aouadi Paris Fall 2015 dress. She doesn?t really have those tattoos and she did not get tattoos painted onto her body. That?s a sheer netting thing with ?tattoos? built in. Thoughts? I like it because it?s different and because it?s interesting to look at. If she had fake tattoos painted on, I wouldn?t have liked it at much. As for Rooney Mara, she wore Chanel. I would have liked her look more if she had done a different hairstyle.
Everyone?s talking about how Cate has delivered two amazing projects this year, Truth and Carol. There?s some talk that she could get Oscar nominations for both, but I?m almost positive that is impossible with the Oscar rules ? an actor cannot be nominated two times in the same category in one year (it is possible to get nominated for Supporting and Lead in the same year though). So if Cate had to choose, for which role would she want to get nominated?

Cate in particular has been doing a pretty good job of not stepping into some massive political controversy while promoting Truth. She and Redford have been getting so many political questions, and Redford answers most of them. He?s old, he doesn?t give a sh-t, and he?s a well-known lefty in political circles, so his statements aren?t that controversial. Cate is asked point-blank if she believes that the documents about Bush?s National Guard service were faked or real and she basically doesn?t say anything other than ?there had long been a question mark over Bush?s service.? You know what would be interesting? If some big media outlets went through the information again now that Bush is out of office. I think a lot of people would still really like to know WTF happened when Bush was supposed to be serving in the National Guard.

I?m going back and forth in my mind about whether I believe this story is sexist. I still haven?t made a decision. I kind of think this would be notable if we learned this about a dude, but would we have even learned this if it was a guy? Over the weekend, TMZ got a tip about Anne Hathaway. Annie was filming a Japanese commercial ? which probably came with a multi-million-dollar paycheck ? on the Paramount lot last week. Annie put in her breakfast order: a poached egg with an English muffin and avocado. She ended up sending back her breakfast FOUR TIMES.
Anne Hathaway likes her eggs just so, and God help the chef who goes astray. Hathaway was on the Paramount lot last week shooting a Japanese commercial when she ordered breakfast — a poached egg, along with an English muffin and avocado. The guys catering the shoot were going crazy, because she sent the dish back 4 TIMES!!
1st try: Poached egg too runny.
2nd try: English muffin was cold because it sat while egg #2 was being poached.
3rd try: Egg #2 cold because it sat while chef toasted muffin #2.
4th try: Egg, muffin and avocado were perfect, but it took so long she decided she was in the mood for a fried egg.
She’s totally ovo it.

To be fair to the caterers, poached eggs are pretty difficult to master, especially if a person has specifications like ?the egg cannot be too runny.? To be fair to Annie, what kind of on-set caterer makes a second poached egg and keeps the cold English muffin? So, is this diva-like behavior or just a lady who knows what she wants and isn?t afraid to demand it? These kinds of food requirements are built into her contract, I?m almost positive. As in, if Anne was scheduled to spend the whole day on the lot, shooting this commercial, the production company or advertising company was required contractually to feed her to her specifications. And they did not. Which could be seen by some as a breach of contract.
