Over the weekend, Victoria Beckham celebrated her 50th birthday in style. The family gathered in London, and the Beckhams hosted a blowout, celebrity-intensive birthday party at Oswald?s, a private-member club. All of the Spice Girls were there. Tom Cruise was there. Marc Anthony was there. Gordon Ramsey, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham and many more were there. Most importantly for Victoria, all of her kids came out and they all dressed to the nines. Hilariously, Brooklyn?s wife Nicola Peltz did not attend. She sent a supportive Instagram but stayed away. I wonder if Brooklyn was like ?babe, don?t come.?
I have a completely different view of the Beckhams after watching David?s excellent Netflix series. Victoria and David are so family-oriented and maybe even trauma-bonded after everything they?ve been through. It?s amazing that they?re still together. I?ll say this too I think Victoria got completely wasted at her party. She arrived at the party on crutches, and then David gave a piggyback ride to his clearly sh-tfaced wife after the party. I really don?t mess with Woody Allen?s films at this point, but I did see Midnight In Paris one time, and I sort of enjoyed the premise of modern people being so nostalgic for a different era, they sort of willed themselves into their preferred era at midnight in Paris. Owen Wilson?s character longed to see the Lost Generation?s exploits in 1920s Paris Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Picasso, etc. I get that kind of nostalgia. What I don?t get is Taylor Swift seemingly longing for antebellum America??? And not even a particularly noteworthy or fascinating time in antebellum America either like, you could make a historical argument for wanting to see the Lincoln-Douglas debates or wanting to meet Harriet Tubman. But 1830s America? You want to go back in time to see Andrew Jackson?s presidency??? So that?s where we are. Taylor?s lyrics in her song ?I Hate It Here? have caused some controversy.
Taylor Swift released 31 new songs on Friday, but she?s facing some criticism for one line in particular. In ?I Hate It Here,? track 23 on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, Swift says she wants to live in the 1830s. The full lyric reads: ?My friends used to play a game where / We would pick a decade / We wished we could live in instead of this / I?d say the 1830s but without all the racists / And getting married off for the highest bid.?
The Tortured Poets Department double album runs more than two hours long and contains 10,663 words, according to a noble soul at The Ringer who spent 45 minutes counting them up, but this one line is standing out among social media critics.
Observers noted that it?s hard to separate the decade from ?all the racists? or other atrocities of the time. Other listeners were quick to point out that the 1830s were best known, historically, for the Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears, in which around 60,000 Native Americans were forcibly displaced from their homes, with many dying in the process. In Europe, it was also the time of a cholera pandemic that claimed tens of thousands more lives.
The 1830s were also three decades before the Civil War, and slavery was still legal in the United States. Some critics say that the lyric minimizes the struggles of the time, even with the ?without all the racists? caveat.
One X user wrote, ?I mention Taylor Swift once for a joke and now I?m getting news about her, and I gotta say: pretty astonishing to stipulate that she wants to live in the 1830s, ?except without the racists,? and not mention slavery, so slavery still exists but everyone?s chill about it.?
Others used the controversy as an opportunity to make fun of Swift, posting memes or making quips about her private jet. ?My interpretation of Taylor Swift wanting to live in the 1830s has to do with the lack of environmental regulations and how economical it?d be to run a private jet,? said another user.
Added a third, ?Taylor Swift name one thing that happened in the 1830s that wasn?t racism. Quickly.?

I get that she?s trying to analyze her own nostalgia and describe what it?s like living in her own romanticized interior spaces. But can she get some producers or friends she trusts to tell her ?girl, you better change these fking lyrics.? Oh, J.Lo. All she wanted was to spread joy to the world with her love of LOVE in her triple project extravaganza: This Is Me? Now the album, the musical film, and the making of documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told. Well, spread joy and make back the $20 million she personally funded. And what have we given her in return? A fairly ?meh? reaction, along with the lowest Billboard 200 debut of her career (38). But hey, we?re talking about scrappy Jennifer Lopez here. So she moved full steam ahead into announcing her tour? only to cancel several city stops (which haven?t been rescheduled) after a month of lackluster ticket sales. Now ?sources? have spoken to Us Weekly to say that yeah, of course Jen is disappointed, but really she doesn?t care what other people think.
?Jennifer?s very focused on her latest project and doesn?t want bad press to get in her head,? the insider says, referring to Lopez?s recent rough patch involving her This Is Me? Now Tour and record of the same name.
The source explains that Lopez, 54, has been through ?plenty of problems like this before and has gotten over them,? adding, ?She moves on when things like this happen.?
Last month, Lopez raised eyebrows when she canceled several shows for her upcoming This Is Me? Now Tour after weak ticket sales. The stops included Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa and New Orleans and were supposed to take place between August 22-30.
The musician didn?t give any explanation at the time, and according to Ticketmaster dates in the southern part of the U.S. were not rescheduled.
Days later, Lopez posted an updated tour schedule with a revised lineup of dates. The shows will begin in June in Orlando and conclude in August with two New York City performances. None of the canceled shows are listed on the schedule.
Lopez?s This Is Me? Now album dropped in February and didn?t live up to the singer?s standards when it came to the charts. The record debuted at No. 38 on the Billboard 200, which is the lowest any of Lopez?s albums have ranked. (This Is Me? Now is the follow-up to Lopez?s 2002 LP, This Is Me? Then. The new record is her ninth studio album.)
While a second source tells Us that Lopez is ?disappointed? over the underwhelming response to her tour and album, a third insider says she?s not letting it derail her next ventures.
?Jennifer is extremely proud of all the hard work she puts into her projects, and Ben [Affleck] has been a huge support through it all,? the third source shares.
Lopez and Affleck, 51, are currently house hunting for a fresh New York City pad, sources tell Us. Plus, Lopez has decided to focus on her next movie, Kiss of the Spider Women, which she?s already filming in New Jersey.
?She really doesn?t care what others think,? the third insider says of Lopez?s reaction to her recent criticism, adding that Affleck, whom she wed in 2022, has been keeping ?Jen grounded? through all the highs and lows.
Lopez, meanwhile, is already on to the next big thing. ?She?s looking for a fresh start,? the first source tells Us.

I love New Orleans, but I still wouldn?t be caught dead there in the summer. Or actually I would ? because the humidity had killed me! But humidity + dancing in the audience? I?d rather watch Gigli. As for these sources, I don?t know. Is professing that ?she really doesn?t care what others think? the most effective strategy? Personally I would?ve advised staying quiet and out of sight (see what I did there!) in New Jersey working on Kiss of the Spider Woman (she?s playing the role originated by the late great Chita Rivera, those are some big jazz shoes to fill). Brian also has two other sons, Kassius Lijah, 21, with Brenda Barett Vanessa Marcil (I grew up watching General Hospital!) and 22-month-old Zane Walker with his fiance, Sharna Burgess. BAG and Vanessa had a lot of issues with each other while raising Kass, which cringingly played out publicly over Instagram last year. I guess Brian and Megan didn?t want a repeat of that situation because according to BAG, they are doing well at coparenting together. During an appearance at Steel City Con in Monroeville, PA last weekend Brian spoke to E! News and shared some secrets for successful coparenting.
The ?number one? secret to co-parenting: The number one, Brian exclusively told E! News at Steel City Comic Con April 13, is always make sure that everything is centered around the experience of the kids.
Accept that the change will affect your kids: People make a mistake of thinking that theyre gonna do things so the separation doesnt affect the kids and thats?of course its gonna affect the kids, he noted. The only choice you have is how it affects the kids.
?Pick your battles:? And thats not to say putting the kids first is always easy for Brian and Megan, who split in 2021 after 11 years of marriage. In fact, he admitted that sometimes its important to pick your battles.
The person that you were with that youre now separated from, you guys are separated for a reason, Brian continued, because you didnt get along. So, you cant expect to then get along after the fact in raising your kids. So, you have to decide, ?OK, its not about us getting along anymore. Its about us co-parenting, which is a totally different situation.'
Megan?s similar sentiments: I think its really important when people separate to never ever disparage the other parent or even in a passive aggressive way, make remarks, Megan said during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show last fall. I dont let anything in my energy like that when Im around my kids because if I dont accept and love their father Im rejecting a part of them because hes a part of who they are always.
Avoid the ?burden of a war between parents:? Noting that she always makes a point to be very loving with him and about him and be very accepting, the 37-year-old?who is engaged to Machine Gun Kelly?added, That gives your children the freedom to be happy because they dont have to carry the burden of a war between parents.

Honestly, good for Brian and Megan, having their coparenting sh-t figured out. I remember there being some drama over the boys when they first separated, but it seems like theyve worked it out. Regardless of how you feel about either of them as people, it?s great that they put their differences aside to successfully raise their boys. I?ve spoken with friends who have divorced parents, and some of them have said that the most difficult part was how their parents still didnt get along after the divorce because they always felt like they had to pick a side. I also briefly worked at a family law firm, and to see some of the ways that parents fought over their children, money, control, etc. was awful, which is why I didn?t last long in that area of law, lol. Even when divorce is the best and right option, it?s still difficult for everyone involved, so you should always keep in mind what is best for your children and what they?re going through. If what Brian says is true, good on him and Megan for doing that.

One of the weirdest stories of the week is about producer Carol Baum bashing Sydney Sweeney for no real reason. Baum produced Father of the Bride, Snow Falling On Cedars, The Good Girl and a dozen other films. This week, Baum was chatting with a NYT moderator for some kind of discussion about Hollywood, and Baum recounted watching Anyone But You, the successful romantic-comedy starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Sydney produced ABY too. Baum apparently said, ?Explain this girl to me. She?s not pretty, she can?t act. Why is she so hot?? RUDE! Well, Baum?s comments were publicized by the Daily Mail and other outlets, and there was an immediate reaction from Sweeney?s rep. Baum apparently already tried to backtrack too:
Sydney Sweeneys camp hasnt wasted time clapping back at the attack on her looks and acting chops by a Hollywood producer even though the woman herself is walking it back. A rep for the Euphoria actress called out Carol Baum for her recent remarks that classified SS as not pretty and not a good actress, saying, How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.
The rep adds, If that?s what she?s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that?s shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms Baum?s character.?
Sydneys former colleagues have also come out to speak up on her behalf including producer Teddy Schwarzman, who worked with Sydney on Immaculate. He responded to this slam as well, saying Sydney is not only talented, but incredibly humble and kind and a badass scream queen too.
As for Carol herself, shes already expressing regret over the whole thing telling TMZ she wishes she never wouldve made her original comments, and that crapping on an actor like that in public usually isnt her style. Carol who has movie credits under her belt such as Father of the Bride and Buffy the Vampire Slayer goes on to say shes been getting a ton of hate mail over all this.

Hate mail? The Mail ran Baum?s comments as an exclusive on Tuesday, and the story was only widely picked up on Wednesday. I guess Baum could mean email or hate-DMs rather than ?mail,? but who knows. It doesn?t sound like Carol Baum is current on modes of communication. Anyway, I think Sydney?s rep struck the right tone and this is honestly a very easy layup for Team Sweeney. Sydney gets tons of sympathy and she gets further recognition as a successful producer. It also helps that in Sydney?s time in Hollywood, she?s made friends and she hasn?t walked all over people on her way to the upper-middle of Hollywood.
As a producer of #Immaculate, I?ll enlighten Ms. Baum that two-time Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney is not only one of the most talented actresses I?ve worked with, but also incredibly smart, kind and humble. I?m not sure why someone who claims to still be a producer would make such?

Well here?s a sweet little tale of good samaritanship: last week Mariska Hargitay was on set in a New York City public park filming Law & Order: SVU, when a little girl who?d lost her mother ran up to her for help. The girl saw Captain Olivia Benson?s badge and thought Mariska was a police officer! And if your next question is, ?did the little girl find her mom?? Well then you don?t know Olivia Benson! Of course Mariska stopped production to reunite parent and child. Another case closed.
Mariska Hargitay doesn?t just star as a heroic detective saving people?s lives onscreen ? she also steps into those shoes in real life, too.
While filming one of the final episodes of season 25 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in New York City on April 10, Hargitay, 60, was approached by a little girl who believed her to be a real police officer based on the badge she wore as part of her character?s outfit.
A witness tells PEOPLE that the little girl had been separated from her mother in the Anne Loftus Playground in Fort Tryon Park and enlisted Hargitay for help. The actress obliged, halting production for 20 minutes to help the child locate her mother and to console them both.
The little girl was completely oblivious to the film crew ? and to Hargitay?s scene partner, Ice-T ? the witness notes, as she believed Hargitay to be an on-duty police officer.
Ahead of the premiere of the long-running drama series? 25th season in January, Hargitay spoke to PEOPLE about the show?s historic run as her character, Olivia Benson, became the longest-running character on a prime-time drama series. The show also became the longest-running drama series in TV history.
?We?ve been on a parallel journey,? she said. ?There?s a thing: WWOBD, ?What would Olivia Benson do?? The fans would always talk about it, and one day it hit me. I also have those moments where I?ve sort of slipped into her. If there?s a crisis, I just take over and lead like that. Being strong and fearless. It?s sort of this perfect feminist story.

I don?t know about you, but this was exactly the kind of adorable, feel-good story I needed this week. That girl really couldn?t have done better than to enlist Mariska Hargitay for help. Not only has Mariska been playing Olivia Benson for years ? I didn?t realize it was 25 though, holy cow! ? she?s brought the best of Benson into her personal life. In 2004 she founded the Joyful Heart Foundation, a nonprofit that supports survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Not that every actor should be setting up foundations connected to their signature characters, but with Mariska it seems like genuine passion and compassion. Through Joyful Heart she spearheaded a truly impactful campaign to end the rape-kit backlog. Whether we?re lost or not, we could all do with turning to Mariska for direction.

I genuinely hope that last night?s LA premiere was the final piece of the Challengers promotional tour. Not that I?m tired of Zendaya?s many sartorial adventures, but I just think these actors are exhausted. They criss-crossed around Europe last week, even turning up in Monaco for the men?s tennis tournament (they watched one of the men?s semifinals) at the Monte Carlo Country Club. The way Challengers has done promotional tie-ins with various tennis tournaments is sort of amazing too Zendaya has turned up at more major tournaments in the past two years than several top players.
Anyway, here are some pics from the big LA premiere. Zendaya wore a custom Vera Wang ballgown which? is not my favorite look from the tour. It?s very princessy, which is fine, but it also has kind of a weird Lady Marmalade vibe which clashes with Challengers? It?s the lace on the bodice, I think.
Zendaya also changed into this Celia Kritharioti dress which fully makes her look like she?s wearing a tennis ball.

Last week, I was surprised to learn that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan?s divorce has still not been finalized or settled. They ended up bifurcating their divorce so they?re both ?legally single? right now (and engaged to other people), but they are still fighting about money. Specifically, the Magic Mike money. Channing has now starred in and produced three Magic Mike movies, and the whole franchise is based on his own experiences as a stripper in Florida. Beyond the film franchise, there are mega-lucrative offshoots like the Magic Mike Live shows in Vegas and London. While Channing isn?t going to become a billionaire from the Magic Mike intellectual property, he?s definitely made a significant amount of money from it. Sweeney produced the last two films, and Anyone But You was considered an old-school, enjoyable mid-budget rom-com and it?s been Sydney?s biggest success as a producer. Well, the fact that a cute blonde actress is out there, developing and producing projects for herself has apparently broken the brains of some Hollywood producers. The Mail had some exclusive comments from ?top female producer? Carol Baum, who basically called Sydney an ugly, untalented flop.
She is one of Hollywoods hottest young rising stars recently been hailed as evidence for woke culture being in the decline. But now Sydney Sweeney has been fiercely blasted by one of Hollywoods top female producers.
Shes not pretty, she cant act, claims Carol Baum, whose films include Father of the Bride and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Baum, speaking with New York Times film critic Janet Maslin before an audience of fans following a screening of her 1988 film Dead Ringers starring Jeremy Irons, held nothing back as she began her critique of the 26-year-old actress.
Theres an actress who everybody loves now Sydney Sweeney. I dont get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeneys movie because I wanted to watch it, she says about Anyone But You. I wanted to know who she is and why everybodys talking about her, she told Maslin and her audience. I watched this unwatchable movie- sorry to people who love this movie [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other.
Referencing the producing class she teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Baum added: I said to my class, Explain this girl to me. Shes not pretty, she cant act. Why is she so hot? Nobody had an answer but then the question was asked, Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it? I said, Well thats a really good questionthats a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.
Baum has produced 34 films starring the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Michael Douglas and Dolly Parton and last year published a book entitled Creative Producing.

True story: Anyone But You looked stupid to me, but I admired the way Sydney hustled for that movie and created a gossip storyline (did she bang Glen Powell and ruin his relationship with Gigi Paris, who knows???), and I admired the fact that she developed it and put the whole thing together (on a budget of $25 million). Even if people weren?t wild about the movie, they appreciated the fact that they had the option of seeing a normie rom-com in the theater. Audiences liked it so much that the film made $218 million at the box office and Sydney and Glen are now looking for another rom-com script to reunite on-screen.
So, what?s my point? Carol Baum is a hater. While Anyone But You is not, like, Citizen Kane, it?s a perfectly fine and successful movie which audiences liked and appreciated. Why this ad hominem attack on Sydney Sweeney?s acting skills and beauty? I actually think Sweeney is an underrated actress people see a blonde with big boobs, and they think she?s a talentless ditz, but she?s got range. She also has a surprising jolie-laide quality where she can really look downtrodden and mousy.
Add to all of this other nonsense, the whole ?Sydney Sweeney destroys wokeness? thing is because she?s a conventionally attractive woman with a great body. It has nothing to do with wokeness, right-wing guys are just idiots.

Here are some photos from the 10th Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. This event was as well-attended as the Oscars, I swear. Kim Kardashian got a lot of attention for wearing this 2024 version of the ?bandage dress.? The old version was Herve Leger, but I haven?t seen an ID for this one. Kim occasionally does ?wet look? hair and I hate to admit it, but she sort of pulls it off. I mean, she looks like a plastic Barbie doll left in the pool, but she also just looks pulled-together and pretty. Her date was her momager Kris Jenner.
Elon Musk was there. He looked like a needy ahole begging for attention. Growing up, I used to think being a billionaire must be so cool. If anything, Musk shows everyone that you can have more money than God and still be the biggest fking loser.
Brie Larson wore Chanel she has this thing where she?ll wear something interesting or offbeat, but she somehow makes it look so boring.
Jessica Chastain looks sort of like a game-show hostess but I love the color.
Venus Williams is a literal GODDESS and she was my pick for best dressed of the event.
Last people: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Katy wore Coperni. I swear, about five other women wore versions of this dress. Michelle Yeoh kept it simple and elegant; Glenn Close wore a shiny jumpsuit; and I kind of like this version of Maria Sharapova, where she has dark hair and looks like hell.
