In the summer of 2023, a huge gossip story broke over the course of several weeks. Ariana Grande left her then-husband, then we learned that she was seeing her costar Ethan Slater, and that was the reason for her divorce. Then we learned that Ethan was married and he and his wife just had a baby not even a year before he met Ariana. Two marriages destroyed, all because of an on-set love affair. Well, Ariana and Ethan have given it a go ever since. They?ve been together, they?ve tried to have a real relationship. And obviously, Ariana is starting to get bored. Ethan Slater thought he was stepping into a fairytale when he fell for megastar Ariana Grande on the set of Wicked nearly two years ago? but the happy ending looks further away than ever for the couple. Back then, both left long-term partners: Ariana split from realtor husband Dalton Gomez, 30, after two years of marriage, and Ethan, 33, left his high-school sweetheart and now ex-wife Lilly Jay, 31.
Cue the social media meltdown. Fans roasted them as ?homewreckers,? memes went viral faster than Ariana?s ponytail whipping around her head. Then Lilly herself went public with a viral essay calling Ariana ?not a girl?s girl?, spilling on what it was like to lose her high school sweetheart to a Broadway star.
The Spotlight hears that Ethan (once best known for playing SpongeBob SquarePants in a musical) has since mended his relationship with Lilly as they co-parent their three-year-old son. But insiders say he often looks like a man caught between the life he had and the globe-trotting whirlwind he signed up for with Ariana. One source adds, ?He sometimes wonders if he should have stayed in his quieter world; the contrast is brutal.?
Because Ariana is busy: touring arenas, rehearsing the sequel Wicked: For Good and juggling media appearances. All of which, my source says, have left Ethan struggling to keep pace ? especially while being an involved dad to his son.
?He loves her, but he?s drowning in the circus of her life,? one insider explains. He?s used to a controlled Broadway stage, not sold-out arenas screaming for every move. Even when he?s home, he?s mentally halfway through the tour or rehearsals. It?s exhausting just watching him try to keep up.?
Just days before Ariana?s big VMA night in September, Ethan was spotted quietly in Jersey City with Lilly and their little boy, co-parenting duties in full swing. Meanwhile, Ariana was surrounded by brother Frankie, stylist Law Roach, Lady Gaga and basically her own mini army. Ethan? Nowhere in sight.
Their last public appearance together was, incredibly, in late April at a preview of Little Shop of Horrors, supporting Ariana?s Victorious co-star Liz Gillies ? and before that, the Oscars in March, where they were photographed hugging and chatting all night. Sources tell The Spotlight that the intensity of Ariana?s schedule ? combined with the shadow of her high-profile exes and past fleeting romances ? has created tension.
I hear the couple won?t confirm, or deny, any split until after Wicked: For Good premieres, in an attempt to keep the attention off their relationship. But behind the curtain, I?m told, the fairytale has ended. Ariana is flying, and Ethan is somewhere in the wings, missing the calm he left behind.

That last part is critical there probably won?t be a big split announcement until after all of the Wicked promo. That being said, it?s not like Ari and Ethan really put their relationship front-and-center in the promotion last year. Ariana Grande might be a controversy-prone marriage-wrecker, but one good thing about her is that she absolutely loathes Donald Trump and his cult followers. She?s always supported Democrats and she?s always voted for Democrats. Well, on Sunday, Ariana posted a message to her IG Stories (which I?ve included at the end of the post) where she reposted a series of questions to Maga cultists: are you getting everything you were promised, has your life gotten better under Trump? It was the kind of semi-viral post which tons of Democrats will repost and retweet. So it was weird that Ariana?s IG Story repost garnered a reaction from the White House Deputy Press Secretary. These people have nothing better to do than stalk Ariana?s Instagram and issue thin-skinned statements?
Ariana Grande received a direct statement from the White House after the pop singer called out supporters of the Trump administration. On Sunday night, Grande reshared a post to her Instagram that criticized the Trump administration for its ongoing ICE raids and transphobic rhetoric, as well as other threats to democracy.
The post was written by activist Matt Bernstein as a ?check-in? for Trump supporters. The paragraph concludes with the following question: ?It?s been 250 days. Now that immigrants have been violently torn from their families and communities have been destroyed, now that trans people have been blamed for virtually everything and live in fear, now that free speech is on the brink of collapse for us all ? has your life gotten better??
In a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai responded to Grande directly. The statement utilized Grande?s song titles ? including ?Save Your Tears,? ?Just Like Magic? and ?Get Well Soon.?
?Save your tears, Ariana. Because President Trump?s actions ended Joe Biden?s inflation crisis and are bringing in trillions in new investment,? Desai said.
?He even signed an executive order just like magic that paved the way for the FTC to crack down on Ticketmaster for ripping off Ariana Grande?s concert-going fans. Get well soon, Ariana!?
Desai makes reference to the Federal Trade Commission?s recent lawsuit aimed at Live Nation and Ticketmaster that claims the entities misled consumers about resale ticket prices. This suit comes a month after it sued a ticket resale company Key Investment Group and affiliated companies including Epic Seats and Totally Tix LLC, alleging that it used illegal methods to secure tickets and resell them at inflated rates for popular concerts, including Taylor Swift?s ?Eras? tour.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo surprisingly opened up the Oscars, singing a medley of ?Somewhere Over the Rainbow,? ?Home? and ?Defying Gravity.? They both sang their asses off, but I did feel like it was a quick admission that Wicked was not going to win many Oscars the film ended up winning for Costume Design and Production Design and nothing else. The one good thing that has come out of the years-long Wicked promotion is that Ariana and Cynthia are absolutely besties. You can?t fake that closeness for this long they love each other dearly, and the shot of Ariana watching Cynthia sing is iconic.
Fashion-wise? well? much to say. Ari and Cynthia?s red carpet looks were not my taste. Ari wore Schiaparelli, a structural lampshade in a pale cream/pink, basically. Cynthia wore Louis Vuitton, a custom look in a rich, dark green velvet. I much preferred their performance ensembles Cynthia wore a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood gown, and Ari wore a custom Schiaparelli in ruby-red, with a ?ruby slipper? worked into the design at the back. As if Ariana?s whole dress was the ruby slipper. This was the first time Ariana has worn red or burgundy for anything involving Wicked, correct? Her awards season has been dominated by pinks and creams. The Westwood look was also a rare lighter ensemble for Cynthia.

Ariana Grande has not won anything for Wicked, but she has been nominated across the board. I sort of wanted to see her win one thing, because I?m sure her speech would have been funny and tearful. But instead, she?s had to watch Zoe Saldana pick up all of the supporting-actress awards for Emilia Perez. At last night?s SAGs, Ari wore a custom Loewe. I honestly can?t get a handle on Loewe and what a ?typical Loewe look? really is, because this just looks like Elie Saab to me. Ari was poorly advised to go through the awards season with this washed-out blonde shade too.
Ari?s on-screen partner Cynthia Erivo wore a spectacular vintage Givenchy to the show. I loved this, I loved how over-the-top it was.
Elle Fanning also wore Loewe, and once again, I?m asking? what is it with Loewe? She paired her look with a Cartier necklace.

Ariana Grande is in full Oscars campaign mode. Given her wild wicker basket dress at the Critics Choice Awards this weekend, it looks like she?s having just as much fun as she did during that bonkers Wicked press tour. Ari was on a recent episode of Marc Maron?s WTF podcast. During her appearance, she talked about mental health. Speaking from experience, Ari said that because dealing with fame from a young age can be extremely difficult, studios and record labels should be providing their talent with therapy sessions.
Ariana Grande is advocating for therapy for young stars in both the acting and music worlds, saying that weekly appointments should be built into their contracts.
The Oscar-nominated actor and Grammy-winning pop star ? who got her start on Broadway and the Nickelodeon show ?Victorious? ? opened up to Marc Maron on his ?WTF? podcast about having to deal with fame at such a young age, particularly with the media scrutinizing her personal life and body.
?I was 19 when all of that nonsense started happening to me, and it?s just a crazy piece of the puzzle,? she said. ?It?s something you work so hard to try and understand, and it will never make sense to me. I just love art and that?s all I care about, so it?s just weird that that?s a part of it ? It started when I was so young with my body or rumors about my relationships or about my team or about my mom or about people I love. There was just no limit.?
Grande said the situation was ?impossible to navigate,? and that?s why she chooses to speak up about the topic whenever she gets the chance. She?s particularly passionate about therapy, and told Maron she thinks it should be built into the contract of every young star.
?It?s so important that these record labels, these studios, these TV studios, these big production companies make it a part of the contract when you sign on to do something that?s going to change your life in that way, on that scale,? Grande said. ?You need a therapist to be seeing several times a week.?
She continued that because the big studios and labels ?know how your life is going to change? and have seen how fame can ?impact people in a negative way,? they ?should be responsible for protecting you from that.?
?When these people are cast in these life-changing roles, or when they get that record deal, when they get that moment, that should be non-negotiable in the contract,? Grande said. ?Because to be an artist, you are a vulnerable person with your heart on your sleeve ? So the same person who is meant to do art is the exact same person who is not meant to deal with that shit.?
Grande added about her own therapist: ?I love her so much. We do great work!?
The star has spoken up about these issues before, telling Penn Badgley?s ?Podcrushed? podcast in June that she was ?reprocessing? her time on ?Victorious.? Though neither Badgley nor Grande specifically mentioned it, the episode aired just a few months after the release of Investigation Discovery?s ?Quiet on Set,? which included misconduct allegations against ?Victorious? creator Dan Schneider. He has denied the allegations and is pursuing a defamation suit over the documentary.
?A lot of people don?t have the support that they need to get through being a performer at that level at such a young age,? Grande told ?Podcrushed.? ?The environment just needs to be made a lot safer all around and like I said, I?m still in real time reprocessing my relationship to it.?

Preach, Ari. I think this is a great idea. Several former child stars have strongly advocated for mental health support and increased protections for stars, including Alyson Stoner (Cheaper by the Dozen and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody) and Ariana?s former Sam & Cat costar, Jenette McCurdy. Labels and studios *should* provide easily accessible mental health support for their talent. Executives and publicists do know how much life is going to change for the actors and artists that hit it big. It?s also difficult for the talent that has a flop or receives a lot of negative reviews. And, of course, there?s the overall trauma of dealing with sketchy, sh-tty people in the biz. I think ?impossible to navigate? is a good way to describe it. Hopefully, this topic will reignite now with even more eyes and ears hearing it and lead to some form of meaningful change.

Before I saw Wicked, I was fully prepared to say ?this is not for me.? But then I watched it and? yeah, I enjoyed it. Was it the best thing ever? Eh, that?s an impossible standard, but it was fine-to-good. What really surprised me was how much I enjoyed both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Both women really worked their asses off and you could see it on screen. Well, now both women are Oscar-nominated for their performances, Cynthia as the lead actress category and Ariana in supporting. To celebrate her first Oscar nomination, Ari posted this on her social media:

I?m not even joking, she was really good in Wicked and she absolutely deserves this nomination. During the Wicked promotional tour, I often remarked on how nice it was that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo had zero drama with each other. Ari and Cynthia have now worked together and promoted Wicked together for two full years, and they?ve still got to promote the second film. They both have reputations for having somewhat tricky personalities no judgment and I?m still flabbergasted that they?ve managed to maintain a seemingly genuine friendship and allyship throughout everything. Obviously, ?two women get along really well despite everyone expecting them to beef? doesn?t sell. So that?s why a lot of people are focusing on ?wait, are Ariana and Cynthia TOO close?? Cynthia Erivo is with Lena Waithe, and Waithe has been posting a lot of interesting stuff on her social media. I?m not going to get too into this, but I do think it?s funny because? none of these people are known for their fidelity. Cynthia & Lena?s relationship probably started when Cynthia broke up Lena?s marriage. And we all know what Ari is like.
Anyway, here are some photos of Ari, Cynthia and the Wicked people at last night?s Golden Globes. I brought up the Lena Waithe stuff because she did not attend the Globes with Cynthia, and Lena was posting a lot about Cynthia and Ariana on her socials last night. Ariana wore a vintage 1966 Givenchy which was supposed to give ?Audrey Hepburn vibes.? Please don?t let Ariana anywhere near an Audrey Hepburn biopic. The dress itself was meh to me there are so many better vintage looks but I really love that Ariana wore vintage to the Globes. Cynthia wore Louis Vuitton she?s developed a strong relationship with LV, they?ve been making a lot of custom looks for her.
Wicked didn?t even win Best Musical or Comedy it lost to Emilia Perez. I find that? odd.

Here are some photos from last night?s New York premiere of Wicked. This was much more muted than I expected, especially considering the wild popularity of Wicked?s Broadway run. It?s almost like the studio has suddenly dialed back the premieres and promotion because they?re worried about it now? Something else I was thinking about recently is that both Ariana and Cynthia have reputations for being a bit prickly, so it?s sort of amazing that they?ve kept this show on the road and still manage to be so friendly. Even more than friendly I really buy that they?ve become close friends. There are zero rumors (that I?ve seen) of any beefs or fights or ?please don?t make me pose next to her again.?
Fashion notes: Ariana?s pink/fuschia dress is Louis Vuitton, and Cynthia?s ensemble is Dior. I actually love Cynthia?s look. That?s one of the best ensembles she?s worn for the whole promotion. Ari?s LV is so meh. You know they planned out everything and the stylists were coordinating and all of that, so why are Ariana?s custom pieces so overwhelmingly blah? Also: Cynthia changed into a different all-black ensemble and it?s a really great look too (and I think it?s Dior as well).
Some clips and Wicked vocals have already started to come out online, to mixed reviews. I?ll say this? Ariana has the vocal range to pull this off.

As I get older, I get more and more disturbed by grown women who put on ?baby voices? or breathy little-girl voices. It irritates me to no end. Back in June, Ariana Grande did just that within a podcast interview she spoke in her normal, deeper speaking voice and then, within seconds, she quickly phased in her breathy little-girl voice. Here?s that clip:
When people were like ?wait, this is crazy,? Ariana clapped back and said that she changes her voice like that to protect it, because she?s a singer. Many singers or vocal performers chimed in and backed her up, saying that this is a real thing that singers do to ?protect their voices.? Now Ariana is expanding on that:
Ariana Grande has no tears left to cry over criticism of her voice. In fact, the Grammy winner doesnt think its a big deal that she can switch between two different accents. Approaching a viral video of her changing vocal inflections with a yes, and? attitude, Ariana noted that the shift is a normal thing people do, especially if you have a large range.?
?I did just spend a long time playing a character every single day,? Ariana said on the July 9 episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast, referring to her role as Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movie musical. Muscle memory is a real thing.
The 31-year-old also pointed out how there seems to be a double standard when male actors unintentionally stay in character after filming.
Sure, people make jokes here and there as well, but it?s always after the fact, ?Oh wow, how dedicated to his craft! What an amazing transformation! He?s a brilliant performer!' she continued. ?But then it?s like, god forbid I sneeze like Glinda.

There?s actually not a double standard when Austin Butler was still doing his Elvis voice two years after filming, it was a huge conversation and he was absolutely criticized for it. Same with Tom Hardy?s stupid Bane voice. There are no male vocalists who put on a sexy-baby voice to protect their vocal chords either, but I will acknowledge that Ariana probably has a bigger vocal range than most male singers. Anyway, if singers tell me that this is totally a legit way to protect their voices, so be it, and I agree that people should go easier on Ari. But I do think it?s a mix of ?protecting her voice? and ?creating a girlish sexy-baby facade.?

Ariana Grande recently appeared on Penn Badgley?s Podcrushed podcast. That was where she dramatically changed her entire voice in a matter of seconds. Well, people are still going through the whole interview and they found a particularly problematic section where Ari talked about her youthful obsession with serial killers. One serial killer in particular: Jeffrey Dahmer, who killed 17 people (that we know about).
Ariana Grande had a fascination with Jeffrey Dahmer when she was younger, and the admission is rattling some of her fans. The Eternal Sunshine singer was a guest on Penn Badgleys Podcrushed this month, where Grande shocked the hosts with a story about how she once revealed to her fans that Dahmer was her dream dinner date. Grande was asked about serial killers in relation to the supervillain theme of The Boy Is Mine music video, which stars Badgley.
I knew someone was gonna say this, she said with a laugh just before the 30:00 mark. Whats this pattern, do we need to talk about this pattern here? Maybe theres something to look at. No, Im kidding? No, but I was infatuated with serial killers when I was younger. Mmhmm. Its not nothing. Im serious.
Grande told a fascinated Badgley and his Podcrushed co-hosts Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari that she had a story that was not funny but perhaps fine to share. Ariana once held a Q&A with young fans between her time on Sam & Cat and becoming a pop star and was asked about which living or dead person shed want to have dinner with.
I was like, Oh, youre so cute. Who, um?mom and dad, is it okay if I give the real answer? And they were like, Sure, I guess, whats the answer? And I was like, Um, Jeffrey Dahmers pretty fascinating, I think I would have loved to have met him. Like, you know, maybe with a third party or something. I have questions I want toI have a lot toI dont know, I would love to And the parents were like, Well explain it later, sweetheart. And I was like, Ill just sing Problem and go home.'

What the hell is wrong with her? There?s this whole thing with women (mostly white women) being fascinated by serial killers and obsessively listening to true-crime podcasts and all of that. But I?ve always hoped that for most women, their interest in serial killers is from an investigative and criminal justice perspective, not ?wow, serial killers are cool, I?d love to meet one!? And saying she wants to have dinner with one of the most famous cannibals in American history?? Disgusting. Well, the families of Jeffrey Dahmer?s victims are mad about it. As they should be!
The family of one of Jeffrey Dahmers victims is speaking out, slamming Ariana Grande for once saying shed be interested in having a sit down with the late serial killer. That revelation does not sit well with the loved ones of Tony Hughes a deaf, non-verbal victim Dahmer targeted and killed in 1991.
Shirley, Tonys mother, tells TMZ she hopes Ariana understands how hurtful her comments are, noting the confession made her emotional. She was also disturbed when Ariana laughed during the podcast about her Dahmer fascination. Shirley wants the singer, and the general public, to know she and other victims families experience very real pain any time Dahmer is brought up.
She adds To me, it seems like she?s sick in her mind. It?s not fancy or funny to say you would have wanted to do dinner with him. It?s also not something you should say to young people, which she says she did.
Shirley says she finds it troubling Ari didnt seem to show any empathy for the victims loved ones. Tonys sister, Barbara, shares a similar sentiment saying the comments glamorize Dahmer, who was beaten to death in prison in 1994. Shed love to see Ariana apologize, so her fans know this isnt right.

Ari absolutely deserves all of this criticism. She should apologize. But mostly, she needs to stop talking about this kind of twisted sh-t. Once again, it?s not like someone merely having an amateur interest in famous serial killers, it?s that Ariana wishes she could HAVE DINNER with Dahmer and that she thinks that?s a story which is funny or quirky.
