You guys know by now that I?m something of a Jennifer Lopez Apologist. So, I was partly on her side at last night?s VMAs. Jenny walked the red carpet alone, wearing this Charbel Zoe gown that looked like it was painted on her crazy body. Think about this ? Jennifer is 45 years old. Seriously. And she gave birth to twins! And her body still looks like that. The face is pretty magnificent too. And I?ll give Jennifer credit for something else: when she wants to show off her body, she manages to do without ever seeming gross. Like, even though this dress shows a lot, Jennifer still manages to look glamorous rather than trashy.
Now, for the bad stuff. I feel a little bit sorry for J.Lo that she?s 45 years old and still hustling with ?the kids? at the VMAs. When she was on the carpet, she spoke to Sway about how she?s collaborating with Iggy Azalea on a remix. It just seemed sort of desperate, like, ?I know what the kids like! They want Iggy, I?ll give them Iggy!?
And here?s the worst part about J.Lo?s appearance at the VMAs: Casper Smart was there too. Lainey said he choreographed Nicki Minaj?s routine. So, it?s pretty likely that J.Lo was there to promote her album AND be with her back-on boyfriend. They were seated close to each other too, and during one of the breaks, Casper gave Jennifer some Skittles while J.Lo?s manager Benny Medina looked PISSED – go here to see the photo. Medina has never been a fan of Casper. Medina is probably at his wit?s end with Jennifer?s taste in men.

Alright, let?s talk about Beyonce. Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce. Queen B. Our lord and savior Beysus. We knew coming into the VMAs that Beyonce was definitely going to perform and that she was definitely going to pick up the MTV Video Vanguard Award. We also knew that Beyonce would explicitly or implicitly address the now-constant rumors about her marriage being in shambles. We were all waiting to see if Jay-Z was there, if they would sit together, if Bey would make a reference to her marriage. And they made us wait and wait and wait. But it was worth it.
First, Bey walked the red carpet alone. She also did the press room, backstage, alone. No Jay-Z. But Jay was seen on the backstage camera early on in the night, and we saw that he was there and he was holding on to Blue Ivy. By the way, Beyonce?s red carpet look was the black lace Nicolas Jebran Couture. I?m not into it, but I rarely like lace on a red carpet, it usually looks cheap and Fredrick?s of Hollywood to me. Beyonce?s burgundy Zuhair Murad dress in the press room was a tad better, but still not really great.
So, with everybody primed and everybody waiting until the very last moment for Queen B, she finally arrived. There was a smoke machine. There were her special Bey-fans. There were amazing back-up dancers. There were stripper poles and dramatic back-lighting. And Bey kicked our asses for 16 minutes, doing mostly a medley of songs off her new album. She even threw in part of her ?Flawless? remix with Nicki Minaj, referencing ?a billion dollars on an elevator.?

Miley Cyrus had her big vindicating moment at last night’s VMAs. After last year’s tweark attack, I hoped MTV would let Miley fade into the background. MTV loves Miley though, so she won Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball.” Sigh. Miley did an amazing thing though. She allowed her mystery date, a man named Jesse, to use her acceptance speech to talk about his experience as a homeless person in LA. Miley’s eyes filled with tears as Jesse admitted, “I’ve been an extra in your movies, I’ve been an extra in your lives.” It was a touching moment, and good on Miley for bringing awareness to a subject that people prefer to ignore.
Miley’s outfit was shockingly appropriate for the occasion. She wore black leather Alexandre Vauthier couture. Is Miley one of the only people who can pull off a tube top? Maybe so. I like this outfit from top to bottom. The leather’s a bit scuffed up, but Miley may have done that on purpose.
Amber Rose wore Laurel DeWitt in what can only be described as an homage to Rose McGowan’s 1998 booty dress. What’s sad is that I prefer Amber’s beg for red carpet attention better than her wedding dress. Amber does have the confidence and the body to pull off a dress like this. Such a revealing look feels natural for Amber. She walked the red carpet with Wiz Khalifa, who rolled out of bed and grabbed the nearest white t-shirt.
Demi Lovato dressed boldly in a beautiful red Lanvin gown. This dress is gorgeous, and Demi looks fantastic. I see this dress as a sign of Demi’s emotional maturation. The only thing wrong? The VMAs are much less formal. I would have saved this dress for an event like the Grammys.
Ireland Baldwin made her red carpet debut with rapper Angel Haze. I never realized until now how much taller Ireland is than Angel! Angel has a strong stage presence, so I expected her to be taller. Ireland wore Roberto Cavalli. This dress looked flapperish and fun, but the bodice was very ill-fitting. Angel wore Helmut Lang, which looked like her everyday uniform.

Don?t yell at me, but when I was looking through these photos of Kim Kardashian with her Jenner sisters, all I could think about was ?Sad hookers are sad.? I know that?s mean and anti-feminist. I apologize. But they do look sad! Sad and tacky. Kim, Kylie and Kendall came to last night?s VMAs because?? I?m still not sure. It?s not like Kanye West was there, although he was up for one award, Best Hip Hop, which went to Drake. (Who wasn’t there either.) Kim apparently came just to present Sam Smith?s performance. Maybe they?re friends? Why would Sam Smith be friends with Kim though? No, seriously? And Kim seemed freshly Botox?d too.
Anyway, Kim wore this completely ridiculous Balmain dress. This dress was meant for someone built like Kendall Jenner, someone tall with long legs, someone who is a size zero with little to no bust. I guess Balmain made it in a size 4 (!!!) for Kim though and she shimmied into it somehow. This is always the problem with Kim ? she thinks she can and should wear major designers without even considering the fact that just because it?s a designer piece, doesn?t mean that it will be flattering on her figure. This makes her look shorter and heavier than she is in reality. And what could have been some sexy California bedhead-style hair ends up looking matted and not all that cute with this bad Balmain.
I can?t find the designer IDs on the Jenner sisters. I don?t mind Kylie?s look ? it reminded me of Lorde?s look, honestly. And Kendall is SO slim.
Also: during the impromptu moment of silence for Ferguson and Mike Brown, the camera panned to Kim, Kylie and Kendall. They were texting. Because of course they were.

Here are some more fashion photos from last night?s VMAs. Let?s start with Gwen Stefani in a LAMB ensemble that she apparently designed herself. On the red carpet, I thought she looked great. The hot pink/fuchsia and black combo popped and she seemed to be very comfortable and rocking the whole thing. But when she got on stage with Snoop Dogg? I don?t know, I disliked her whole vibe. I thought she seemed Botoxed and frozen, plus I think Gwen and Snoop got high before they presented.
Solange Knowles in H&M Studio Collection. H&M sent us a publicity email where they noted that the whole ensemble comes in under $150 (before taxes). The jacket costs $79.95, the pants cost $69.95. Would you wear it? I probably would, but I wouldn?t have any expectation that the tuxedo would last very long. Also, did anyone see any Solange cutaways? I think I saw her, like, once. There needed to be more cutaways, especially when Beyonce was singing about elevator drama.
Here?s Lorde in Chanel. Ugh. I mean, I get it. She?s not Taylor Swift. She?s not Ariana Grande. Lorde is her own person and she?s not your cutesy manufactured pop tart. But this feels like it?s just another version of try-hard. Trying too hard to be serious, trying too hard to be dark and goth. Oh, and SHE IS NOT ROCK.
And Kesha made an appearance too. She wore a Johanna Johnson gown and her hair is currently this weird shade. Er? I?m happy that she seems healthier these days.

Simon Cowell and his ?girlfriend? Lauren Silverman are vacationing in Saint-Tropez with their son Eric. If you haven?t seen photos of Eric Cowell recently, OMG he looks like his father. It?s like the Cowell genes are so strong that this baby just has Simon?s face completely. No DNA test necessary. To his credit, Simon seems to be very engaged with his son, which is a good sign, I guess. I never thought I?d see the day when Simon traded in his harem for nappies, but that?s where we are. And it?s fine. He seems happy.
Anyway, there are many photos of Simon?s furry moobs and Simon and Lauren frolicking on the beach. My eyes were assaulted, so I thought I would pay it forward. You are welcome!! Simon and Lauren have always given off this vibe of ?LOOK AT US, WE ARE SO HAPPY? which I always thought was just an immediate by-product of the shady way they got together. But Lauren is seeming increasingly useful to Simon, especially given the recent rash of ?gay rumors.?
I?ve said this before and you guys have yelled at me, but I really do think Lauren is beautiful. Most of Simon?s ladies are beautiful, granted, but I think Lauren has an especially pretty look about her. It wouldn?t surprise me at all if Simon and Lauren wanted to have another baby. Also: Lauren is really good at looking like she adores Simon, right? Get that money, girl.

Nothing makes me miss Elisabetta Canalis more than reporting on Amal Alamuddin. I have missed Canalis so hard these past few months. Canalis dated George Clooney for about two years, circa 2009-2011. Canalis was given her Exit Package from Team Clooney in 2011 when she reportedly mentioned the word ?marriage?. No joke. Canalis spent the next few years in a haze of stunts and budget tabloid associations and sad confessional interviews about how Clooney was a ?father figure? who brought out her ?feminine side.?
Anyway, long story short, Elisabetta hooked a guy. She?s engaged to an orthopedic surgeon named Brian Perri. They will marry in Sardinia in September. And Eli gave an interview about her wedding and? George Clooney.
George who? Elisabetta Canalis recently opened up about her engagement to orthopedic surgeon beau Brian Perri and her famous ex George Clooney to Italy’s Chi magazine.
The 35-year-old Italian actress/model revealed that Perri asked her father for permission and that she will wear an Alessandro Angelozzi couture gown for her special day. “I met a 46-year-old man who has never married and does not have children, a rarity,” she told the mag. As for her diamond: “It is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen,” she gushed. “Brian designed it, he put his heart and soul into it.”
As previously reported, Canalis will be tying the knot on Sept. 14 in Sardinia, Italy ? the same month and country Clooney, 53, will be marrying fiancee Amal Alamuddin. (The famous Hollywood bachelor and the 36-year-old British lawyer got engaged in April.)
“I chose the date some time ago and September is the most beautiful time ? for those who do not know Sardinia ? to appreciate it,” Canalis explained of her decision. “Otherwise I would have had to wait a year.”
The former Dancing With the Stars contestant ended her two-year relationship with Clooney back in June 2011. Despite the coincidence, Canalis only has nice things to say about the silver fox.
“I am happy for him, but I am thinking only of my happiness,” she told the mag. “It is the most important day of my life, I don?t have time to think of anyone else.”
She also cleared up rumors that their past relationship was seen as professional rather than passionate. “That is the wrong impression that many have made and I do not have any problems speaking about him. There is no mystery, no contract, no secrets to hide. So many people believe that a relationship with a such a famous person, always in the spotlight, was not possible,” she said. “Instead we had a real connection and it ended as all relationships can end.”

Nothing has convinced more that their relationship was partly contractual than her denial of said contract. The more George?s ex-girlfriends are like, ?There are no secrets, no contracts, it was LOVE,? the less I believe them. For years, George liked somewhat trashy, C-list women who could transform into his Beck & Call Girls. We know this. George reportedly gives all of his major girlfriends ?exit packages? worth several million dollars ? I believe Elisabetta got jewelry and cash, and Stacy Keibler got a condo, jewelry and cash. All of that in exchange for non-disclosure agreements, reportedly. I know a lot of people think that the reason for George?s secrecy and contractual relationships is because he?s gay. I don?t. I think he?s a kinky bastard who likes women who let him order stuff not found on the normal menu. And I really wonder how Amal is going to handle that long-term, don?t you?

On Friday, St. James Palace/Kensington Palace finally handed out the firm itinerary for Duchess Kate?s first solo royal trip on behalf of the Queen. Kate is heading to Malta on September 20th and she?ll be staying overnight. Prince George will not be coming with her and ?sources? speculated that William will be taking care of George ?on his own.? Ten bucks says George is shipped off to Carole Middleton though, don?t you think? Anyway, Kate will be there to celebrate Malta?s 50th anniversary of independence and she?ll even be meeting one-on-one with the prime minister and president of Malta. She?ll be watching some military presentations and visiting the National Library and a bunch of other stuff ? go here to read about her jam-packed two-day schedule. It really does look busy, but it also looks like a lot of fun tourist stuff and sight-seeing and garden parties.
Before Kate heads to Malta (which will likely be her only major royal work in September), she?s also in charge of putting together Prince Harry?s 30th birthday celebrations. I heard that she was putting together a dinner party for Harry?s birthday at Kensington Palace and a few weeks ago, sources said Harry didn?t want a big party because he?s got the opening of the Invictus Games that same week. But Kate wants to do a big blowout and turn KP into a ?nightclub.?
Kate Middleton is masterminding the party plans for her brother-in-law’s 30th birthday next month. Latest reports suggest that the Duchess of Cambridge is working with one of London’s top hotspot owners, Guy Pelly, to turn one of the rooms in Kensington Palace into a nightclub on September 15 for Prince Harry’s big day.
Both the Duchess, Harry and his brother Prince William have been friends with Guy for years, having also attended his wedding earlier this year. The guest list for the exclusive bash is said to include Harry’s closest friends, family – and two of his ex-girlfriends. But according to the Mirror, the fourth in line to the throne does not mind seeing old flames Cressida Bonas, 25, and Chelsy Davy, 28.
An insider told them: ?Harry has no problem with seeing his exes all under the same roof. Let?s just hope they don?t either.?
The source then told the Mirror that the Duchess may have also invited charity worker Camilla Thurlow, 25, who Harry has been spotted getting close to in recent weeks. This follows his split from Cressida in April after meeting in the summer of 2012.
Clubbing into the early hours at Kensington Palace is not the only partying that Harry will be doing near his birthday. The day before he turns 30, the Prince will be rocking out with the likes of the Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs and Ellie Goulding at the Invictus Games Closing Ceremony. The games, which were set up by Harry this year, and are a Paralympic-style sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.
As well as this, a documentary, titled ‘Prince Harry at 30: From Hellraiser to Heartthrob’, is also set to be released before the Prince’s birthday. From serving his country in Afghanistan to the embarrassment of those naked photos in Las Vegas – Harry has seen highs and lows over the past decade as well as constant speculation over whether he will settle down like his brother, William. The documentary, planned by ITN productions and DRG, will celebrate the life of perhaps the most eligible royal bachelor.

This is the same Guy Pelly who was just found guilty of drunk driving in July. It was Pelly?s second drunk-driving conviction and his driver?s license was yanked. But hey, Pelly is one of Harry and William?s closest friends and he keeps all of their secrets, so why not invite him to organize some kind of palace nightclub, I guess.
As for Harry?s exes and possibly his current lady all at the same party? That’s the part that doesn’t ring true to me. Harry doesn’t want to see Cressida, I tend to think they ended badly (made worse by the back-and-forth in the press post-breakup). And Chelsy… well, he probably wants to see Chelsy, “the one who got away,” but Chelsy is reportedly engaged now. Harry is probably heartbroken. As for Camilla Thurlow? I don?t know. Star Magazine had a story this week where sources claimed Harry is ?completely hooked? on Camilla because she doesn?t drop everything to be with him (she?s the Anti-Waity?). A source says:
?She will turn Harry down for dates if she has something going on. She?s very confident and that makes Harry want her even more?She has no problem sharing a pint of lager with Harry? she doesn?t try to impress him by being something she?s not. She?s the complete opposite of everyone Harry?s dated, which could be just what he needs.?

Sigh? I remember when the American and UK tabloids used to describe Cressida the same way. Like, Cressida was the Anti-Waity for a while too, Cressida wasn?t at his beck-and-call, Cressida didn?t want The Ring, blah, blah. This Camilla girl sounds more like a throwback to Chelsy.

We’ll be bringing you fashion from the VMAs this morning, which aired last night on MTV. I enjoyed the performances, which were pretty raunchy and entertaining as a whole. There was no host but Jay Pharoah told some raucous jokes and did a great Kanye impression. Plus there were some good speeches, particularly Miley letting a homeless young guy go up to bring awareness to the cause. Kaiser will have a recap a little later.
First off we have Victoria Justice in a Alice + Olivia white tube top paired with a custom made LUBLU Kira Plastinina skirt, Jimmy Choo heels and an Edie Parker clutch. They like this skirt at Red Carpet Fashion Awards and say that Victoria gets a hall pass because of the VMAs. This looks like a craft project made of Hefty bags and reminds me of the prom dress made out of Starburst wrappers. Yes Victoria can pull this off somewhat, but why?
Victoria was there with her hot boyfriend, Pierson Fode. I do like her styling, and that’s a cute clutch.
Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo were another super cute couple. They donned matchy white outfits. People mag reminds us of Posh and Becks’ all white Dolce & Gabbana look at the 2003 VMAs. Unlike Katy Perry and Riff Raff, Jordin and Jason toned this homage down, assuming it was intentional.
Look at how into each other they are! I wonder when they’re getting married already, they’ve been engaged for at least a year. Jason was nominated in a couple of categories for “Talk Dirty,” but he didn’t take home and moonmen.
Lucy Hale had two looks on last night’s red carpet. To start, she was in a Sachin + Babi halter top with a Zimmermann full skirt. This is cute, if a bit boring.

I much preferred Lucy’s interview look, a Pink and black Oscar de la Renta dress with a bold print and a flared structured skirt. She was good during the interview portion. She met Taylor Swift for the first time and bonded with her, and reminisced a little with Miley Cyrus, whom she said she had known for ten years. I was surprised at how short she looked next to Taylor, but Taylor is 5’10? and was wearing heels. Lucy is just 5’2?.
Sarah Hyland sported a much-shorter bob with highlights, we’re used to seeing her with longer hair and extensions. This style looks great on her, and I love her elegant, solid color Kaufmanfranco cutout gown, there’s something very modern and cool about it and it has an open back too. Her makeup is too dark, though, the dark eyes and lips drag this look down.
In contrast, Chloe Moretz kept her styling light and young and her fashion older. She wore a Louis Vuitton pantsuit with a magenta top, Pink pants and neon magenta shoes. Apart from the shoes, this outfit is straight from the runway. I like that she’s covered up, but the top and pants don’t look suited for each other. Nina Dobrev was in a split top Zuhair Murad gown with a draped skirt. This is a fashion departure for Nina, and a rare miss. She usually wears more body-conscious dresses. Kaiser tweeted that it looks like Nina had a boob job, but I bet she’s just using some inserts to push her girls to the middle. I feel guilty for looking, but I swear I see the outlines of inserts. If she did get new boobs, I’ll be disappointed.

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift at last night?s VMAs. Swifty was there to promote her new album and to perform the first single, ?Shake It Of?. For the red carpet, Swifty wore this Mary Katrantzou romper and purple Elie Saab shoes. She looks like a Barbie, right? Even her body looks Barbie-esque. Obviously, the romper is horrible and not very flattering, but I guess props to Swifty for getting out of her comfort zone. The most offensive thing to me? The bangs.
Here?s her performance of ?Shake It Off?. I didn?t really think this performance was one of the best of the night, but it was okay. Much like Ariana Grande, Swifty was trying to do too many things and she should have just been focused on singing. Her performance ensemble is by Lorena Sarbu ? very cute. I like this better than her red carpet look.

She's got her dancing shoes on and Taylor Swift couldn?t wait to arrive at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards earlier this evening (August 24).
And of course the ?22? stunner was primped to perfection by the time she stepped in front of the cameras outside The Forum in Inglewood, showing plenty of love for her fans.
This year, there are plenty of worthy contenders up for the coveted Video of the Year trophy including Beyonce Knowles featuring Jay Z, Sia, Pharrell Williams, Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX and Miley Cyrus.
Meanwhile, the Best Female Video nominees are Katy Perry featuring Juicy J, Lorde, Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea, Beyonce and Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX.
