When I was a kid, I never picked up any of the languages my dad spoke, probably because he rarely spoke those languages at home. He just spoke English at home, and only Bengali or Hindi when he was on the phone to India. Now that I?m an adult, I regret that I didn?t try harder to pick up those languages, and I?ve always admired people who grew up speaking another language growing up with immigrant parents or English-as-a-second-language parents. Eva Mendes who is Cuban-American is trying to teach her daughters (Esmeralda and Amada) Spanish by speaking Spanish a lot in the home, with her mom and sister. But the girls have only picked up a vague Spanglish way of speaking:

While on The Talk on Monday morning, the extremely private Eva Mendes opened up about her long-time love Ryan Gosling and their two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee Gosling. The Lost River star shared the cute hiccup she and her 38-year-old partner are experiencing as they teach their little girls how to speak Spanish.
Well the Spanish in my home Im Cuban and were trying to teach the kids Spanish, and its harder than I thought, the 45-year-old fashion designer and actress explained. I speak Spanglish and thats what theyre picking up. So its adorable but its technically not a language. Its Spanglish. She continued, So our little girl will be like, Mommy, my boca (mouth) hurts because I think something got stuck in my diente (tooth). Its so cute but that is not really gonna go great out there.

I wonder if Ryan Gosling speaks Spanish? My guess is that he does not (or at least not fluently) and that?s probably one of the reasons why the girls aren?t picking it up so quickly, because they don?t hear daddy speaking Spanish to mom. Still, even Spanglish is better than nothing little kids are sponges and it?s easier to pick up other languages when you?ve been exposed to them at a very young age.

Here are some photos of Britney Spears over the weekend. She?s been photographed out and about frequently in the past few months, we just haven?t had access to those photos here because they were always super-exclusive. These are not super-exclusive, which tells me that photo agencies expect to be seeing more of Britney in the weeks and months to come, and more Britney sightings will mean the price of those photos will be driven down (market forces!). Britney was out shopping with her boyfriend Sam Asghari this weekend, and she seemed sort of happy to see the paparazzi. The jeans tell me that Britney might not know what year it is.
For the last ten years, all of Britney?s boyfriends were thoroughly vetted by Jamie Spears. I tend to believe the guys were always told, upfront, what was allowed and what was not allowed. No talking about Britney in the press, no drugs, no drinking. Carefully staged dates, keep her happy, some overnight visits but no cohabitation. Going to the gym together is a plus. I also tend to believe that many of her boyfriends were getting paid, although I have nothing to back that up other than a general feeling. Sam was absolutely vetted by Jamie Spears when Sam and Britney started up three years ago. And Sam is sticking with Britney:

As Spears? mental health and long-held conservatorship has made its way back into the spotlight, Asghari has remained focused on the well-being of his girlfriend, who also spent time with her kids Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12, over the weekend.
?When Britney wasn?t doing well, Sam supported and encouraged Britney to seek help,? says the source. ?It?s obvious that he really cares about her. Sam is such an important part of her life.?

I mean? maybe Sam isn?t so much looking for career opportunities as much as he?s playing a longer game if Britney?s conservatorship is loosened or stopped, Britney will finally be able to legally marry. And that means Sam could? well, you know. I know I?m being harsh, ascribing all of this to him. CB believes hes a good, decent guy who simply loves Britney and wants to help her, and he genuinely seems low-key and like he obviously sees Britney as the wounded bird she is. Its more than possible that he genuinely cares about her and wants to see her healthy. But I have been warped by the general shadiness around Britney and the people in her life, and I cant help but wonder there are many opportunistic hustlers around her at the moment.

I?ve mentioned this a few times, but I?ve really phoned in the Cannes fashion coverage this year, and I?m sorry. I?m sorry that the fashion sucks this year! And that I have barely talked about it. But I?ll make it right with this post, starring one of my favorites: Aishwarya Rai. Rai is one of the most famous and famously beautiful women in the world, and she attends Cannes every year because of her beauty contracts. She?s really trying to bring the big, dumb glamour this year. Last night, for the La belle poque premire, Aish wore this giant Ashi Studio gown which was customized for her. First of all, the makeup! She?s like the Indian Elizabeth Taylor to me those hypnotic eyes can take a mountain of dramatic eye makeup. The gown is only really good for an event like Cannes.
On Sunday night, Rai wore this Jean-Louis Sabaji Couture gown which is supposed to look futuristic. I kind of like the train, but the one-sleeve thing isn?t great. Still, I?m blinded by my standom so I think she pulls it off.
I?m also including photos of Bella Hadid over the weekend, wearing a 2005 Roberto Cavalli gown. What?s going on with Bella? I swear her face looks different. This gown weirdly suits her too, right?

I saw this headline and thought you can go blind from herpes? Thats absolutely crazy. Also, the google suggestions for things people search after can you go blind from? are what you might expect. Herpes is not one of the suggestions. You can definitely get herpes in your eye Im really sorry to say, and its the HSV-1 virus that causes cold sores and which 50-90% of people are estimated to have. Heres a description of how that happens, from The Atlantic:
In some cases, HSV-1 can run through that bundles of nerves in the face and erupt in the eye. Or maybe it gets into the eye from the outside. No one is really sure. In any case, HSV-1 can definitely infect the eye. (In case you?re wondering: HSV-1 can also cause genital infections, though it?s herpes simplex virus type 2 that is more commonly associated with genital herpes.)
Herpes in the eye is as bad as it sounds. The virus infects the cornea, forming tree-like branching ulcers across the eye. It can cause irritation, pain, sensitivity to light, and ultimately blindness if untreated. Herpes in the eye is a leading cause of blindness in the world.

Holy crap I never knew that! The treatment for this is antiviral drugs like Zovirax, but the herpes viruses are becoming increasingly resistant to these drugs. The good news is that theres a promising new treatment that can clear this in animals, but its far from clinical trials.
Anyway Mel B had this issue when she was training for the Spice World tour (sans Posh) which kicks off at the end of the week in Dublin. She went blind in one eye but got the treatment and is said to be fine now.
Melanie ?Mel B? Brown?s vision has been restored after she was temporarily blinded last week.
According to U.K. outlet The Sun, [Mel] went to the hospital on Friday, complaining of being blinded in her right eye. (Her left was permanently damaged following a laser eye surgery gone wrong in the ?90s.)
After her vision returned, the singer reportedly left the hospital and returned to rehearsals for the upcoming Spice Girls tour.
?She?s doing fine now, she?s not blind,? a source tells PEOPLE. ?This has happened before. She has herpes in her eye, so this can happen.?
?She told the doctor she was blind because she couldn?t see but her eye is OK,? the source says. ?They gave her some drops and she?s good now. It was nothing major.?

The good news is that the rehearsals for the tour are said to have gone well and Mel is fine now. As the article mentioned you can get recurrent herpes eye infections just like cold sores! Ahhh. The next time I get a cold sore Im just going to be grateful as hell its not in my goddamn eye.
Despite the story that this has happened to her before, Mel says it hasnt and she wasnt ok! She wrote on Instagram that she had inflammation in both eyes. She didnt deny that it was caused by herpes, but she said its new for her. Shes going to have to wear an eye patch for a while. It does sound like shes better from the treatment and will be able to tour as planned.

I had an awful experience last week when I went blind in my right eye and my left eye went blurry. Even though the stupid press said I?m ok and this has happened to me many times before, just to be clear I was NOT ok and this has NEVER EVER happened to me before,so who every is selling this story ?a close reliable source? is full of BS and needs to get there silly facts right big time,I was actually in a lot of pain and very very scared but thanks to the incredible eye specialists in A&E at London?s Moorfields Hospital and after at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital I was diagnosed by and eye specialist with severe IRITIS in my right eye and UVEITIS in my left eye.I?m taking multiple prescription heavy duty eye drops and other medication the dr gave me that I have to take every day to keep the inflammation under control,Also I?m being so well looked after by Team Spice special thanks to our paramedics too!!im still dealing with it and will be fir the next 3/4 months to fully get it under control but I?m no longer worried that my condition will get worse. My only problem now is I have to find a very cool Scary eye patch. Does anyone apart from Madonna know where I can get one ?? #eyepatch Pls #takingcareofme thank you #nhs ??

Like her on-screen sister Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner is opening up about some challenges shes faced in the last few years. Sophie, who is promoting her next film, Dark Phoenix out June 7, admitted that having her adolescence scrutinized by the public took her to a bad place mentally. In an interview with Marie Claire, Sophie emphasized the toll it took on her to always have people telling her, ?you?re not good enough and you don?t look good enough,? which, let?s face it, would wreak havoc on any of us. In an interview with the Sunday Times that came out last Sunday, Sophie said therapy and meeting husband Joe Jonas helped her overcome those issues.
Sophie Turner is crediting her new husband Joe Jonas with helping her through a difficult time in her life.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, the 23-year-old actress said that she was ?going through this phase of being very mentally unwell? when she first met Jonas, 29.
?Having your adolescence being displayed in public, that?s something I really wish hadn?t happened,? Turner said of growing up on Game of Thrones. ?Being in the age of social media when that?s happening, I think I would be a much saner person if I hadn?t been documented from 13 ? your most awkward, uncomfortable, unsure-of-yourself years.?
Turner said that her body started to change over the many years of filming, and she eventually went to therapy after she started ?calorie counting? and missing periods.
?Suddenly, everyone?s metabolism slows down at 17, 18 and then that?s documented,? she told the outlet. ?My skin and everything. People commenting on it. I was too aware of my body at a young age. And it just kind of took over my mind, it was all I would think about. Calorie counting, everything. Oh, I?ll just eat nuts today.?
The Dark Phoenix star added, ?I stopped having my period for a year ? that?s when I decided to have therapy.?
Turner met Jonas at age 20 when she was ?going through this phase of being very mentally unwell,? she recalled of that time in her life. ?He was, like, ?I can?t be with you until you love yourself, I can?t see you love me more than you love yourself.? That was something, him doing that,? she continued. ?I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.?

?I can?t see you love me more than you love yourself,? that?s quite insightful and increases my respect for Joe. Because this truly is a huge part in improving your mental health. Like most challenges, the honest healing comes when a person does it for themselves and not for someone else. Not to mention the fact that Joe knows of what he speaks, since he spent a chunk of his adolescence in the spotlight too. I?m sure this shared experienced allowed them to relate to each other.
I can?t imagine how hard it would be to be a teenager in the spotlight. It must be awful to have your appearance, talent and general behavior dissected like that. As Sophie mentioned, there is an exorbitant amount of pressure that comes with being a child star compounded with the normal teenage issues. I?m delighted Sophie had Maisie for support and found Joe right when she needed him. Sophie deserves most of the credit because a person can have all the support and love in the world, but they ultimately do the work. I hope Sophie and Joe find many years of happiness together.

I saw John Wick: Chapter 3 ? Parabellum over the weekend, as did a lot of other people. It was the first movie to beat Avengers Endgame since it came out. Id only seen the second John Wick film prior, but you can pick up the back story in about five minutes. Theyre popcorn movies that can seem more like ultra violent video games, but somehow they work. The writing is fresh, funny and has heart and the action scenes are ridiculous and insane. Plus Keanu Reeves brings so much to that role, hes wonderful. Halle Berry is a natural fit in this one as his reluctant ally, a badass assassin with two loyal dogs. (I thought they were German Shepherds but the breed is called Belgian Malinois.)
The dogs also make this movie highly entertaining and watchable. So much went into training and working with those beautiful animals, you can read more about it here. A team of five dogs was trained to respond to the action playfully instead of attacking the stuntmen. Halle worked personally with the dogs for hours every day, playing with them and training them, so they would know her and respond to her commands. Along with that she worked out twice a day for an hour to an hour and a half and she had extensive firearms training! Heres a link to her training schedule as explained by her trainer and heres what she said about it:
?The training was like nothing I?ve ever experienced in my whole career ? and I?ve done a few action movies before?
?After I saw John Wick 2, I researched how they did this,? Berry said while promoting the film in New York City. ?So, I knew how hard it was. Just being in it was life changing. I don?t think I?ve ever worked harder or longer to prepare for a part in a movie.?
?I learned parts of jiu jitsu,? she said. ?I learned how to fire a gun. I had never worked with firearms really in that way before.?
?I became a dog trainer,? she continued. ?I don?t have a black belt or anything ? I didn?t get any belt from this training. But I will tell you this: if someone thought they were going to snatch my purse on the street, they better think again.?

EW has quotes from director Chad Stahelski praising Halles dedication and commitment. She did most of her own stunts too. All the training she put into this shows as she embodies that role. Halle is 52, by the way. If you consider that Keanu Reeves is 54 theyre setting the bar quite high for the rest of us aging GenXers. Its not my job to be super fit and hot though, I just do that as a hobby. (No I dont, I had to throw out two pints of ice cream last night. I need to get my ass in gear.)
