Last week, I was on an international flight with a selection of Christmas movies that were free to watch. At one point, I got up to use the restroom and as I walked back to my seat, I saw that the entire economy section of the plane was basically watching three different movies: Home Alone 2, Love Actually, and The Holiday. The woman sitting diagonally across from me was watching Love Actually with subtitles on. I am one of those fliers who raw-dog the flight map while doing other things, which in my case, became reading the subtitles as that woman played Love Actually. Yes, I acknowledge that this is weird, but when you?re on a plane for eight-plus daytime hours, you have to do what you can to pass the time.
Anyway, while creeping on my flight neighbor?s screening of Love Actually, I watched the famous cue card scene. It comes out of nowhere but is meant to symbolize that unspoken love that one person has for someone who is completely uninterested in them. Even if you haven?t seen the movie, that particular scene has been mimicked tons of times, most famously in 2016, with Kate McKinnon playing Hillary Clinton trying to warn us about Donald Trump. While the scene may be well-known, the context has always been a point of debate. During an interview with Variety, Keira Knightley talked about filming the famous cue card scene. In her opinion, the whole thing was ?quite creepy.?
The Love Actually star?who played Juliet in the 2003 movie?shared that she had to re-shoot the Richard Curtis-directed Christmas classics iconic cue card scene with costar Andrew Lincoln (who played Mark) to make his grand gesture seem less stalker-ish for viewers.
?My memory is of Richard, who is now a very dear friend, of me doing the scene, and him going, ?No, you?re looking at [Andrew] like he?s creepy,? Keira told Variety in an interview published Dec. 6. And I?m like, ?But it is quite creepy.?
That?s why Keira changed up her facial expression to try to improve the scene, recalling that she continued by ?having to redo it to fix my face to make him seem not creepy.?
And while the moment?in which Mark shows up at the doorstep of Juliet, the wife of his best friend Peter (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), and confesses his love in hand-written cue cards?wound up becoming one of the most famous romantic scenes of the last two decades, the Oscar nominee still sees the clip as having a creep factor for another reason: She was only 17 years old when it was filmed.
?I knew I was 17, Keira explained. It only seems like a few years ago that everybody else realized I was 17.?
Of course, the Pride & Prejudice actress wasnt alone in admitting the scene could read as inappropriate. Last year, Richard?who wrote the movie in addition to directing?revealed that he views Marks confession as a bit weird now.
?We didn?t think it was a stalker scene, he told the Independent at the time. But if it?s interesting or funny for different reasons [now] then, you know, God bless our progressive world.?
And Keira isnt the only Love Actually star who wasnt head over heels for one of their iconic moments in the film. Hugh Grant, who played newly elected prime minster David Grant in the flick, shared that he wasnt thrilled to shoot his memorable celebratory dance to The Pointer Sisters song Jump (For My Love) after his character stood up to the U.S. president.
I saw it in the script, Grant said in 2022 for The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later ? A Diane Sawyer Special, and I thought, Well Ill hate doing that.'

I honestly had no idea that Keira was only 17 when they filmed that movie. That fact alone is definitely creepy, and yeah, it makes an already questionable scene even weirder. It?s all well and romantic to watch a scene like that because we movie-goers already know that he?s ultimately harmless, but it could also have dangerous repercussions in the real world. Personally, I always thought that even though she knows and trusts him as her husband?s best friend, it was bonkers that Juliet runs after Mark to give him a kiss on the cheek.
Even then, I don?t think that?s the most problematic storyline in the movie because at least the characters were all supposed to be the same age with equal power dynamics. I take more of an issue with the Colin Firth and Hugh Grant storylines because of the power dynamics in play. The Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman (RIP) one involving the character Mia always felt like it was the most realistic while the John/Judy (Martin Freeman/Joanna Page) one always felt like the one to root for. Im basically so split on this movie overall! I know so many people still actually love (see what I did there?) the movie in general, so I dont want to yuck anyones yum. I just personally think that Love Actually is a product of its time. That said, it should have been a miniseries that could have fleshed out the characters to provide more context and feel less creepy.

For decades, ever since the birth of pop music really, it?s generally acknowledged that music stars are not making bank from selling their music, but rather from touring. Music sales are complicated and everyone gets a cut, especially nowadays in the Spotify/streaming era. An artist can be streamed tens of millions of times and they?re only making a small fraction of what they should earn. Tours are much more profitable and straightforward, organized by the artist and their team. Profitable not just from ticket sales, but from the ultra-lucrative merchandising. Well, I don?t know the exact breakdown, but Taylor Swift?s Eras Tour blew every record to smithereens, from ticket sales to merchandising.
For the last 21 months, Taylor Swift?s Eras Tour has been the biggest thing in music ? a phenomenon that has engulfed pop culture, dominated news coverage and boosted local economies around the world. Now we know exactly how big.
Through its 149th and final show, which took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Sunday, Swift?s tour sold a total of $2,077,618,725 in tickets. That?s two billion and change ? double the gross ticket sales of any other concert tour in history and an extraordinary new benchmark for a white-hot international concert business.
Those figures were confirmed to The New York Times for the first time by Taylor Swift Touring, the singer?s production company. While the financial details of the Eras Tour have been a subject of constant industry speculation since tickets were first offered more than two years ago ? through a presale so in-demand it crashed Ticketmaster?s system ? Swift has never authorized disclosure of the tour?s numbers until now.
The official results are not far from the estimates that trade journalists and industry analysts have been crunching for months. But they solidify the enormous scale of Swift?s accomplishment. Just a few months ago, Billboard magazine reported that Coldplay had set an industry record with $1 billion in ticket sales for its 156-date Music of the Spheres World Tour ? a figure that is just half of Swift?s total for a similar stretch of shows in stadiums and arenas.
According to Swift?s touring company, a total of 10,168,008 people attended the concerts, which means that, on average, each seat went for about $204. That is well above the industry average of $131 for the top 100 tours around the world in 2023, according to Pollstar, a trade publication. The biggest single night?s attendance was in Melbourne, Australia, on Feb. 16, 2024, with 96,006. And Swift?s eight nights at Wembley Stadium in London, which she played more than any other venue, drew 753,112 people ? about as many as live in Seattle.
As gigantic as they are, the figures revealed by Swift?s company are only part of the overall business that has surrounded the tour. They exclude her extraordinary merchandise sales, for example, a product line so in demand that Swift opened stadium sales booths a day early in some markets to sell T-shirts, hoodies and Christmas ornaments to fans, ticketed or not.

?Phenomenon? gets thrown around a lot, but holy sh-t, the Eras Tour was a phenomenon, as is Taylor herself. Think about how she did this too she dropped Midnights as her relationship with Joe Alwyn was coming to a close, she announced the tour and the sales went through the roof, and she just committed nearly two full years of her life to all of this. AND she released another album in the middle of it, not to mention cycling through Matt Healy and starting up with Travis Kelce. It?s also amazing that Taylor had a great team around her and there were zero catastrophes. I mean, yeah, there was a terrorism threat in Europe and there were climate issues, but none of that was her fault or her team?s fault. Over $2 billion in ticket sales alone. Probably that much in merch sales too. Seriously, congrats to Taylor and her team.
Additionally, People Magazine had an exclusive about the bonuses Taylor hands out to her tour crew. It looks like Taylor?s touring production company decided to confirm a lot of news after her last Eras concert, right? People Mag says that Taylor ?gave out $197 million in bonuses to everyone working on her tour ? including truck drivers, caterers, instrument techs, merch team, lighting, sound, production staff and assistants, carpenters, dancers, band, security, choreographers, pyrotechnics, riggers, hair, make-up, wardrobe, physical therapists and video team.? So, she gave out bonuses which were just shy of 10% of the total ticket sales. Say there were 1000 people working to ensure the tour ran smoothly that?s roughly $200K per person just in bonuses, in addition to their salaries.

In years past, the Princess of Wales?s Together at Christmas event has guaranteed at least three days of royal gossip, usually about clothes and the Wales kids. This year was different Kate?s McQueen coat was a repeat (she added a giant bow for some reason) and there didn?t seem to be a send-a-message-to-Meghan color coordination. This year, Kate?s husband stepped all over her newscycle Prince William went to Paris on Saturday and met with Donald Trump, and that became a much bigger story this weekend. It frankly overshadowed Kate?s thing. So People Mag?s new exclusive should absolutely be read as ?don?t forget about meeeee!?
Kate Middleton?s carol service was about a lot more than singing seasonal songs. On Friday, Dec. 6, 1,600 guests fill the pews at Westminster Abbey in London to attend Kates fourth annual Together at Christmas concert, which recognized hard work done to help communities throughout the U.K.
Jenny Powell, who helps people with disabilities in her town of Abergavenny in South Wales, tells PEOPLE, It was like saying, ?We do acknowledge you. Since the COVID pandemic, Mrs. Powell set up a group, The Gathering, to do craft-making, provide sensory spaces, offer cooking opportunities and partake in bingo. ?In our group, everyone understands everyone else,? she says.
At Kates Together at Christmas concert, the royal placed a letter on each seat that summed up the theme of love and kindness. ?It was a gorgeous letter,? Mrs. Powell says. ?It really showed her appreciation of what we?re all doing. It was quite touching and brought tears to my eyes. These things that I?ve been doing have impacted the lives of people I?ve been supporting, but knowing that the royal family is aware of these little things is lovely.?
Mrs. Powell recalls the steel drum band playing and servers handing out mince pies at the event, as well as a ?kindness tree, which was positioned near the door. There, helpers handed out red labels and pens so you could write a note to hang on [the tree] before you went in, she says.
When Princess Kate, Prince William and their three children ? Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis ? arrived, ?They looked so happy together, Powell says.
?It?s been a hard year, but she put that brave face on and she looked absolutely gorgeous, she adds of Kate, 42, who recently completed chemotherapy after her cancer diagnosis.

I?ll say some nice things, actually it?s wonderful that Kate invites local activists and advocates to this event. It?s nice that each attendee gets a letter from Kate. It?s nice that this event is organized as some kind of thank you to people like Jenny Powell. The thing is? when people like Powell are invited, do they have to pay out of pocket to go to London and attend this event? Like, take off work, drive to London from South Wales (or take a train), probably stay in a hotel for a night? We never hear about who?s picking up those costs, probably because the guests pay for it themselves.
This is a compilation of all of the videos of Kate at the event, and you can hear her talk/mumble to various performers and celebrities. I saw some people noting that she arrived separately she always does that, so she can have a separate moment to greet various VIPs. It?s basically the only time this happens at any event.

A few weeks ago, Angelina Jolie was spotted at the Met, attending a performance of Puccini?s Tosca with Pablo Larrain. It came during one of several trips she?s made to New York in recent months, almost all of which have been to promote Larrain?s Maria, where Jolie plays Maria Callas. What we didn?t know last month was that a New York Times reporter was along for the ride at the opera, and that it was all for a rather lovely piece about Jolie and about opera. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Jolie identified with Callas?s isolation. ?Loneliness is not a bad thing. We?re both seen as strong, but actually we?re very vulnerable and human. I don?t think either one of us is necessarily comfortable being public.?
Jolie was worried about her singing voice: For years, she had carried the trauma of a boyfriend telling her she had a bad voice and that she should be grateful she had other talents. ?It was nasty, and it was more than once. Then I stopped singing.? She told Larran that she had ?a lot of emotion and pain that I did not feel like letting go.? She was not very familiar with classical music; she had grown up listening to punk bands like the Clash. And she wasn?t sure she had the technique to sing ? until that point, she had avoided even ?Happy Birthday.?
She sang ?Piangete voi?? at La Scala: The aria was one of the most challenging on the list, but it was also Jolie?s favorite. Dressed in a costume that matched Callas?s, with a white headpiece and navy dress, she sang before a crowd of about 500 people. ?It?s like jumping off a cliff. There was just nothing I could do but try to give everything I had.?
Her mother?s death: Her mother?s death from cancer in 2007, at 56, made Jolie feel she no longer had the luxury of time. ?I don?t want to be comfortable or too relaxed,? she said. ?I want to live fully.?
She?s concerned about revealing too many truths. ?When you are stripped of so many things that make you feel safe and whole, you really sit with what matters to you and what you want to give every breath in your body for. In the end, I found a lot of softness.? She said she hoped that despite all that, Callas was able to ?feel safe to be soft and hopefully eventually rediscover a level of joy.?
Has Jolie found joy again? ?I don?t know about that. But I hope for it. I hope to find a lightness that I may have lost along the way.?

There?s a lot in the Times piece about how Jolie has a rare, genuine elusiveness and not even Pablo Larrain really knows her and they worked together for months. When Jolie walked into the Met, apparently people gasped and began murmuring and trying to take her photo too. The Met let Jolie linger after Tosca she and Pablo met several people working on the opera, and they let Jolie go on stage and examine the set. It?s actually a really lovely portrait, and Jolie?s unwillingness to talk about her personal life just made it even more interesting. I mean, she?s been doing this for a while, she knows how to talk around her eight-year-plus divorce. ?When you are stripped of so many things that make you feel safe and whole? fk Brad Pitt. She?s spent eight years just trying to feel safe and whole again.

Katy Perry is kind of over. Her 2024 album, 143, flopped hard. People are mad that she?s still working with Dr. Luke. People have outgrown her pseudo-feminist anthems. But! She?s still one of the most successful pop stars of the past 20 years. People still rock out to her old hits. Well, some interesting news. Katy is apparently the opening act for the Invictus Games next year. Katy and her husband Orlando Bloom are neighbors with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Harry and Meghan even went to see Katy?s final show of her Las Vegas residency last year (a Sussex appearance which enraged Prince William).
Prince Harry has secured the services of his neighbour Katy Perry to sing at the opening night of his Invictus Games. The Grammy nominated star will headline the opening of the event for disabled military veterans in Vancouver, Canada, in February. The 40-year-old is by far the biggest star to appear at the bi-annual event attended by Harry and his wife Meghan.
Perry and her partner actor British actor Orlando Bloom are close neighbours of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Montecito, California. The couple were among the guests invited to the third birthday party for Harry and Meghan?s daughter Lilibet at their 20m mansion in the swanky Californian enclave favoured by many A-list stars.
The friendship between the two power couples was highlighted last year when Harry and Meghan attended the ?Fireworks? concert in Las Vegas sitting in VIP seats alongside Celine Dion. While Meghan appeared to enjoy the concert body language experts who watched Harry noted that he appeared uncomfortable.

Like, I just hope that she doesn?t get up there and try to sing her flop single from this year, ?Woman?s World.? It?s really funny that Katy is now tight with the Sussexes, because she also made a point of performing at King Charles?s coronation concert (and she did the most to rizz him up). She was also very critical of Meghan?s wedding gown back in 2018.

Andie MacDowell, 66, is goals to me on so many levels. She was on the cusp of being one of my generations it actresses, and she could have been a bigger deal if she hustled more, but she moved to Montana to raise her kids. Ive enjoyed seeing how shes since carved out a niche for herself without chasing fame or youth. Andie walked the runway for Loreals Walk Your Worth in Paris a few weeks ago along with other luminaries like Viola Davis and Jane Fonda. She was working a silver strapless gown, but it wasnt her first option. Andie told People Magazine that she had a fitting for another gown that didnt fit properly and that she beat herself up for not fitting into it at first. The next morning she realized that she should just pick a more comfortable dress and that she had other priorities.
On Nov. 21, while attending LOral Paris Women of Worth Celebration, [Andie MacDowell], 66, opened up to PEOPLE about coming to the realization that she shouldn?t give in to expectations and the pressure she feels in Hollywood.
?I did a fitting and the dress was really tight around my waist. It looks so good, but I woke up and I just knew it was not the right thing for me to do,? she recalls. ?I wanted to wear something that was comfortable. And, of course, immediately I shamed myself for not being able to fit into this dress.?
?But thats Hollywood,? she says. ?Its this expectation, like you see in The Substance, to be something that you can no longer be and that was easier at a certain time in your life, but I cant. Im too old to starve myself for 5 lbs. nonstop. I just cant do it anymore.?
MacDowell says she doesn?t have to ?stuff? herself into clothes that don?t fit her and then beat herself up for not being able to wear it properly. She adds that every time she gets a break from Hollywood she actually feels better about her appearance.
?I used to live in Montana. When Im at home, I feel skinny,? she admits. ?Its only when I come out here that I feel like the bar is raised so high and the expectations are beyond anything that anybody can accomplish unless youre completely devoted to being skinny.?
?If that were the only thing that I thought about, I could do it, but there are other things I want to do in my life,? she continues. ?I want to learn about birds and I want to walk on the beach and I want to be smart and I want to read books. I want to work out, but I dont want that to be the only thing. Id rather have the 5 lbs. on me and wear something that fits.?

Andie went on to talk about her grandneice who struggled with anorexia at just 12 years old. She said shes doing well now and that social media really affected her. Andies story about those five pounds was so relatable to me. Im constantly trying to lose five pounds. At first it was five pounds from the pandemic and then it was five more pounds from the ensuing years. Menopause is a bitch and you really get hungry. When I give myself a break and just buy clothes that fit I feel so much more confident and better about myself. Also I loved her explanation that being thin is no longer the focus of her life because she has a ton of other things shes interested in. Exercise is just one thing that brings her joy. Now I also want to learn about birds!

Here are some photos from the Gotham Awards, which were held last night in New York. This was one of the first awards shows of the season, and judging from the A-listers who came out, it seems like there?s going to be a lot of eagerness this year, a lot of people vying for footholds in the Oscar race. I?m including photos of Angelina Jolie and an LV-clad Zendaya, both of whom received special awards for their performances in Maria and Challengers respectively. Other nominees and attendees included: Nicole Kidman, Adrien Brody (with Georgina Chapman), Jessica Chastain, Elle Fanning, Colman Domingo (who won Best Actor for Sing Sing), Pamela Anderson, a Schiaparelli-clad Saoirse Ronan, and Zoe Kravitz.
The Gotham Awards went for gender-neutral categories, and like every awards show which experiments with gender-neutral categories, the cisgender men took home all of the awards. I don?t know what the answer is to ?should gender-neutral categories be the norm,? but in practice, in the real world, whenever they run that experiment, the men always win. It sucks. Anora was supposed to pick up some major awards, but they left empty-handed. A Different Man won best feature, beating out Anora, Babygirl, Challengers and Nickel Boys. Nickel Boys won breakthrough performer (Brandon Wilson) and best director. Sing Sing won two acting awards, for Colman Domingo and Clarence Maclin.

Taylor Swift has maintained a penthouse apartment in Nashville for many years, even though she seemingly spends more time in New York and LA these days. I don?t know if her parents also have a home in Nashville, but it would make sense. Well, the Swift family was in Nashville for Thanksgiving, and they played host to the Kelce family. Travis Kelce, Travis?s parents and even Jason and Kylie Kelce all came to Nashville for Thanksgiving and they were hosted by the Swifts for the holiday. Who cooked though??
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce had a family-filled Thanksgiving together. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, and the pop superstar, 34, celebrated the holiday together and brought along both of their families, a source confirms exclusively to PEOPLE.
According to the source, Taylor and her family ? including dad Scott and mom Andrea ? hosted the Kelces in Nashville, before Travis jetted off to prepare for the Chiefs winning game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday, Nov. 29.
Taylor and Travis had a great Thanksgiving together with their families, the source tells PEOPLE, recalling how the Karma singer was in South America for the Eras Tour around Thanksgiving weekend last year. Its the first Thanksgiving they celebrated together. Taylor and her family were excited to host the Kelces this year, the source adds. [Travis brother] Jason was there with his family and kids too. It was very festive and special.
Following the festivities, Taylor also traveled to Kansas City, where she arrived at Arrowhead Stadium with Travis mom Donna to cheer on Travis.
The news may come as a surprise to some fans, as Travis mom Donna said one week before Thanksgiving, during an appearance on the Today show, that Taylor would probably not be joining the Kelces for the holiday. I dont think so. Shes kind of busy right now. She still has her tour to do, said Donna, 72, referring to Taylors record-breaking Eras Tour, which wraps up on Dec. 8.

The unspoken thing is that Travis usually avoids traveling in the days before a home game. Even if he?s been with Taylor in New York, he comes back to Kansas City days before the game so that he can train and prepare. I guess an exception was made because it?s Thanksgiving. Plus, I?m sure Taylor lets the Kelces use her private planes, so it?s not like Travis is stressed out at the airport, trying to get a commercial flight back to Kansas City. Anyway, I?ve said that Travis is in it to win it. This is a sign that Taylor is in it to win it too. Hosting the Kelces in Nashville? The parents getting together for ?the kids.? And yeah, I?d want Jason around every holiday too.

Remember over the summer when Justin Timberlake got arrested and charged with a DWI and traffic violations including missing a stop sign and driving in the wrong lane, after a cop pulled him over? (JT refused a breathalyzer test.) One of the gossip gifts from that incident ? which could have seriously hurt someone and thankfully didn?t ? was the detail about the arresting officer not recognizing Justin. JT: ?This is going to ruin the tour.? Cop: ?What tour?? JT: ?The world tour.? (Doubly funny because the actual name is the Forget Tomorrow World Tour, so you could say the officer indeed forgot the ?tomorrow.?) Well, turns out Justin?s fears were unfounded and the DWI didn?t ruin the tour. No, instead that credit goes to a series of health calamities that are preventing Justin from rocking his body. First it was ?undisclosed injury,? then bronchitis and laryngitis (at the same time!), and now he?s been hit with a back injury, prompting him to cancel Monday?s show in OK City:
?I?m so sorry Oklahoma City,? he wrote. ?I have to cancel the show on 12/2. I hurt my back in Nola and my doctors have instructed me to rest a little bit longer. Thank you for your support ? y?all know I hate doing this.?
Timberlake most recently performed in New Orleans on Monday, Nov. 25, which is apparently when the injury took place.
This is the third time in recent weeks that the ?Selfish? singer has rearranged his tour schedule due to health reasons.
?I haven?t been feeling great the last few shows and turns out I have bronchitis and laryngitis,? he wrote in an Oct. 22 Instagram post. ?I?m so sorry to say I do need to reschedule the next few shows from 10/23 through 11/2 [?] Thank you for understanding ? I?ll make it up to you .?
The former *NSYNC member also previously canceled and rescheduled his Oct. 8 show in New Jersey due to an undisclosed injury.

I promise to make it up to you and give you the show ya?ll deserve,? he wrote on Instagram, adding a broken heart emoji. ?Thank you guys for understanding. Appreciate your support always.?
The Forget Tomorrow World Tour was first announced in January and marked Timberlake?s return to touring after a five-year hiatus. The two-hour show features a 29-song setlist and highlights the star?s sixth studio album, Everything I Thought I Was. It also includes fan-favorites such as ?My Love,? ?Cry Me a River,? ?Suit & Tie? and ?Rock Your Body.?
The Forget Tomorrow World Tour has nine more U.S. stops in 2024 and continues throughout 2025 in the U.S. and internationally until July.

Ah, so it?s really more than three shows that he?s canceled now. In a span of two months, Justin has issued three notices for a total of eight shows canceled (so far) on the Forget Tomorrow World Tour, six of them during his double bout of bronchitis with laryngitis. Performing is no joke! (Despite his rather crass attempts at them when he?s on stage.) He has to stay physically and vocally fit, and, regretfully, that simply takes more work with aging. I definitely believe that touring at 43 takes more out of Justin than touring in his *NSYNC days. Plus the ego blow it must be for him to deal with any criticism for canceling yet again. Like, I don?t know, say some callous person on the internet suggesting that it sounds like Justin is running through excuses like a schoolboy, and the next one is bound to be, ?Sorry fans, have to cancel, my dog ate my performance.? Some people just have no sense of class or respect, fo? shiz fo? shiz.
Wishing Justin well on his recovery from this back injury. After all, the tour is depending on him. (What tour? The world tour.)
