In the 2010s, Katy Perry was involved in a pretty significant real estate dispute over a former convent in Los Angeles. I won?t get into the years-long saga of it all, but the basic gist was that the LA archdiocese sold the property to Katy, much to the dismay of a couple of elderly nuns who lived in the convent and didn?t like Katy?s provocative music and vibe. One of the nuns literally collapsed and died in court during the lawsuit. Some believe those nuns put a curse on Katy. I sort of believe that, because Katy?s real estate woes continue to this day. Years ago, Katy and Orlando moved full time to Montecito, where Katy began investing in several properties. In 2020, she bought a $15 million home from Carl Westcott, who then tried to rescind the contract. So they?re in court still, and Katy testified in the years-long legal issue this week.
Katy Perry appeared in court to testify in the ongoing legal battle over the purchase of her $15 million mansion in Montecito, Calif. The singer appeared in Los Angeles court via Zoom on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and was questioned about the 2020 purchase of the California estate.
Perry, 40, and Orlando Bloom purchased the 1930s Montecito mansion from entrepreneur Carl Westcott for $15 million, according to court documents previously obtained by PEOPLE. However, Westcott ? who was diagnosed with Huntington?s Disease, a genetic brain disorder, in 2015 ? sought to rescind the contract after claiming he lacked capacity to sign the transaction. In the years since, Westcott, who is the founder of 1-800-Flowers, filed suit against Perry?s business manager Bernie Gudvi in August 2020.
After a years-long legal battle, Perry prevailed at a prior trial on the issue of liability, and in May 2024, Perry gained ownership of the Santa Barbara County property under the LLC DDoveB, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing property records. A judge ruled that ?Westcott presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract?? He also ruled that there was significant evidence to demonstrate Westcott knowingly signed the contract, noting he seemed to be ?coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational.?
The judge has since bifurcated the case. The singer is now seeking more than $5 million in damages, alleging $3 million will cover her loss of rental income. On Tuesday, Westcott?s attorney, Andrew J. Thomas, questioned Perry about what she has to gain from the litigation.
?Justice,? she simply replied. But Thomas asked, ?How about money??
?I stand to lose money if it doesn?t work in my favor,? she said.
She was also asked if she has ?a financial stake of any kind in the outcome of this lawsuit.? Perry confirmed she does, explaining that the financial stake for her, could be lost money, lawyers fees, lost income for rental.?

You guys know I?m loath to give Katy the benefit of the doubt on most things, but I?m actually fine with all of this? Katy has every right to sue this guy, and she entered into the contract in good faith. I don?t think it?s weird or bad for her to acknowledge that Carl Westcott tried to screw her over and break a legal contract, and that the years of legal wrangling cost her. Yes, she?s a millionaire and she doesn?t ?need? the money, but it?s the principle of the thing. I honestly felt sorry for her with the nuns too Katy believed she was purchasing that LA property in good faith as well.

I have this weird thing where I always think the Venice Film Festival starts in early August, and I?m like ?why aren?t celebrities in Italy yet??? And then by the time Venice starts in late August, it catches me off guard. So, obviously, the Venice Film Festival started today. A bunch of American stars have films premiering in Italy this year. Including George Clooney, who arrived in Venice on Tuesday with his wife in tow. He?s going to premiere Jay Kelly, which is supposedly some Oscar-bait whatever. I doubt it will turn out to be a contender, mostly because I believe George is still getting a lot of well-deserved sh-t from his activities and statements last year. But hey, Amal looked nice in a butter yellow (which is straight out of the 80s, and yet it suits her) and Prada shoes. They got married in Venice in 2014.
What else? Julia Roberts is in town for the premiere of Luca Guadagnino?s After the Hunt. Apparently, she had a cardigan sweater made with Guadagnino?s face printed all over. It?s sort of cute, but I wouldn?t have known that it was supposed to be Luca unless someone else pointed it out. I thought, ?Is that Curly from the Three Stooges??? I?m also including a photo of Cate Blanchett?s arrival she will premiere Jim Jarmusch?s Father Mother Sister Brother. She?s also there (I?m assuming) as part of her Armani Beauty contract, since Armani is one of the big sponsors of this festival.
Between Amal, Cate and Julia, I certainly hope we get some interesting fashion to talk about in the coming days.

Over the weekend, Zoe Kravitz and Harry Styles were seen walking arm-in-arm in Rome. They weren?t spotted by a paparazzo, but by a fan who took a furtive video. As it turns out, Zoe and Harry?s early-stages relationship has been an open secret for weeks? Well, it sounds more like people have been seeing them together, out and about, for a week or two. Keep in mind, Zoe is promoting Caught Stealing internationally, and it looks like Harry has been traveling to the same cities to hang out. Deuxmoi said they were seen at Rita?s restaurant in London last week, and People Mag?s source said: ?He?s been spending time with her while she?s been on her press run.? Harry Styles has been on a string of dates with Zoe Kravitz, The Sun can reveal. The pair were seen kissing in Rita?s bistro in London?s Soho last Tuesday. And on Sunday Harry, 31, and Zoe, 36, were filmed walking together arm-in-arm in Rome, Italy. Harry and Zoe?s London date took place after the premiere of her new film, Caught Stealing, in Leicester Square.
A source said: ?Harry and Zoe were tucked away in a corner in Rita?s and were snogging like teenagers. They seemed really into each other and didn?t seem to care if anyone saw them kissing. She had been at the Caught Stealing premiere which is a ten-minute walk away from the bar. They walked in together, it was definitely a date. They make a gorgeous couple.?
On Sunday, former One Direction singer Harry was filmed by a fan in Rome with Zoe. The pair were seen walking arm-in-arm along a cobbled street. Zoe, who is the daughter of rock star Lenny and actress Lisa Bonet, was in France on Thursday for the Caught Stealing premiere in Paris.
A second source said: ?Zoe flew to Italy to join Harry after she?d finished working. He spends a lot of time in Rome so they decided to meet up there. This is very early days, there are no labels. They?re having a lot of fun together.?
Zoe and her Caught Stealing co-star Austin Butler, 34, were seen partying together in trendy bar Dragon in Paris after the premiere, but a source said they were ?just good friends.?
Harry has been single since he split from Canadian actress Taylor Russell last May.

Yesterday, I remarked that Harry is really Zoe?s type, and several commenters noted that Zoe is HIS type as well. It?s true! The more I think about this coupling, the more it makes sense, although I do sort of feel sorry for Austin Butler? While we don?t really know the deal there, it does feel like he was into her and she friendzoned him and went off with Harry. In my opinion, Harry and Zoe have the potential to be really good for each other. But I still give this three months, tops.

I was in high school when the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie came out. At the time, I was already a big fan of Kirsten Dunst. Up until that point, however, my brain had always read her name as ?Kris-ten? not ?Keer-sten.? I distinctly remember the moment I heard a TV reporter call her by her name out loud. It prompted a moment of epiphany. I felt badly for never reading it properly, but I?ve said it the ?right? way ever since.
Kirsten is now decades into being famous, and people are still mispronouncing her name. At this point, she has made peace with this fact and decided that people calling her the wrong name does not bother her at all. During a recent interview, she was asked about how she handles correcting someone when they mispronounce her name. Keer-sten laughed and reiterated the correct way to say her name, then stressed how much she no longer cares if you say it the right way or not.
Kirsten Dunst is well aware of the power of a name. But even still, the Bring It On star isn?t bothered when people mispronounce hers?something they?ve apparently been doing for years.
?I mean, everyone messes up my name, so I give up,? Kirsten shared with Town & Country in an Aug. 20 TikTok. ?I dont care.?
The 43-year-old confessed that she?ll answer to anything from criss-ten to ker-stin to keer-sten?with the latter being how she actually pronounces it.
?I dont blame people,? she explained. ?Like in England, they dont really say my name right.?
But it?s not just those in the United Kingdom who have issues with the pronunciation.
?The last set, everyone was saying my name wrong,? the Power of the Dog star recalled. ?There was like Swedish people and people from Hungary. You just give up.?
But she clarified the one and only way to correctly say her name is ?Keer-sten.?
?But again, who cares?? she quipped. ?Its fine.?

Poor Kirsten! I feel badly that she?s accepted the fact that there will always be people who pronounce her first name wrong. I know this is not an uncommon situation, but I just figured that after 30+ years, the correct way to say it would be common knowledge. (Accents aside, of course.) She?s so funny and gracious about it, though. Her comments got me thinking about other commonly mispronounced celebrity names. Off the top of my head, we?ve got Alicia Silverstone, who pronounces her name as ?Ali-See-yuh? and Ralph Fiennes, who pronounces his first name as ?Rafe.? This next example is not the same thing, but I was stoked when I finally learned the correct, Irish pronunciation of Saorise Ronan?s name, which is ?Ser-sha.? I don?t know how I?d feel if people kept mispronouncing my first name, but I imagine I?d also get to a point where as long as the checks cashed, I?d also just sigh and not care anymore.

For months, I?ve believed the gossip about Zoe Kravitz and Austin Butler. Last year, Austin and Zoe worked together on Darren Aronofsky?s Caught Stealing, which was just released. Austin and Zoe didn?t look seriously ?coupled up? at the premiere, but they did look very friendly. Plus, they?ve been seen out together at least a half-dozen times this year. So, I had every reason to believe they were dating, however casually. But now it looks like Zoe has another slender white guy on the side: HARRY STYLES!!!

In a fan video of the stroll, shared via X on Sunday, August 24, Kravitz, 36, was seen dressed in dark sunglasses and a baseball cap as she held onto the arm of Styles, 31, who also donned dark sunglasses.
Visibly comfortable in one another?s company, the pair were not seen speaking in the clip as they took in the sights around them, which included a group of people posing for photos against a wall. Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for both Kravitz and Styles for comment.

I?m really surprised! While Styles is 100% Zoe?s type, I just thought? you know, Austin is right there, he seems into her, etc. Harry Styles seems so? love ?em and leave ?em. Of course, Zoe moves that way too. Perhaps they?ve met their match in one another. Something else though? Zoe is good friends with Taylor Swift, who dated Styles thirteen years ago (what a time it was). Taylor was still referencing Harry in her music years later he really got under her skin, and she wasn?t pleased with the way he ended things. Is Zoe breaking the girl code? It?s a big competition to find the most chilling or infuriating piece of news about the Trump administration. For my money, one of the biggest candidates for ?the worst thing about this whole sh-tshow? is that Congress gave ICE $76.5 BILLION in ?new money,? with $30 billion for new staff. Taxpayers are now paying for a ramped-up, mercenary-lite faux-police force with little training and broad authority to arrest, abuse and detain people at will. With this new funding, ICE has loosened their restrictions on who can join. They?re now accepting applications from 18-year-olds with no experience and wingnut actors in their 50s. Speaking of, Dean Cain made a big deal, several weeks ago, about how he applied to be an ICE agent. Someone published Cain trying to go through an ICE-training obstacle course and? well? it did not go well for the 59-year-old.
First of all, if this was just some random 59-year-old guy doing a random obstacle course, I would not judge this. I wouldn?t care at all! It?s specific to this guy and this obstacle course. Dude thought he was signing up to be a big SS officer with a gun, rounding up minorities, and he can barely crawl through a pipe.
It?s been more than a quarter-century since Dean Cain played the Man of Steel?and it shows. The 59-year-old actor has begun his training to become an ?honorary? ICE officer after signing up earlier this month as part of the agency?s massive recruitment drive, and Fox News was there to witness his efforts. In a Saturday morning segment on Fox & Friends, correspondent Alexis McAdams interviewed Cain at an ICE training facility in Brunswick, Georgia, about his decision to join ICE. Cain explained to McAdams that he joined because he ?stand[s] with our law enforcement.?
?People don?t realize, they think that ICE is this horrible, nefarious group and they?re not?they?re phenomenal people,? he said.
The segment then cut to footage of Cain struggling to make his way through an obstacle course that took him over a wall, through a tunnel and required him to drag a dummy around. He was also filmed firing guns at a shooting range alongside acting ICE director Todd Lyons, who previously expressed a desire for turning the deportation process into something ?like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings.?
Commenters on social media were quick to highlight Cain?s lack of prowess on the course, with one person noting, ?So they can literally just easily run from this dude and not get caught. Cool.? Another asked if the video was slowed down, while someone else said that the footage proved Cain never did his own stunts. ?It?s kinda like watching a dog agility show but with a senior dog near death that attempts the course to the sympathetic applause from the audience,? one X user said.

Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi celebrated their first wedding anniversary this past May. Time flies! It feels like it was just yesterday that we got word that they?d gotten engaged while on vacation. Remember when Millie (and their dog, Winnie the Poodle) confessed that Jake proposed while they were deep sea diving and almost lost the ring? Good times.
Over the last year, Millie has been very open about how much she couldn?t wait to become a mother. Well, the wait is over! On Thursday, Millie and Jake announced via Instagram that they welcomed their first baby together, a ?sweet baby girl.? We don?t have any other information about their daughter other than they adopted her this summer.
The Stranger Things star, 21, and her husband Jake Bongiovi, 23, have welcomed their first baby together via adoption, announcing the news on Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 21.
This summer we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy, she wrote in the post. And then there were 3.
This past March, the actress opened up about growing her family with Bongiovi while appearing on an episode of the Smartless podcast. At the time, the actress said shes really looking forward to becoming a mom. My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. And you know, its been my thing since before I met Jake, Brown said. Since I was a baby, I told my mom, like, baby dolls. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.
And my nan, my grandmother is, she was a huge part of my life. And so, yeah, I mean, Jake knows how important it is to me and, of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find its so important to start a family for me personally, she went on. Its a huge thing. Jake was like, we cannot do that until we get married. So that was his thing.

Congrats to Millie and Jake! I?m sure they are completely over-the-moon, and I hope they enjoy every single moment with their baby girl. Millie and Jake havent shared any other info, like her name or birthday. I respect the Bongiovis? decision to keep their daughter?s information private. I bet we wont find out anything in an official capacity for a while. I hope it ends up being on their own terms, though. They?re both very close with their families, so in addition to resources, finances, and stamina, MBB and Jake will have plenty of support and guidance as needed. Speaking of family, Millie and Jake?s new arrival also means that Jon Bon Jovi is officially a grandpa, y?all.
Also, Millie becoming a parent is making me feel so old! She was literally 12 years old when we were first introduced to her as Eleven in Stranger Things! She?s had her first kiss, gone through puberty and the teenage years, starred in a whole other franchise, gotten married, and now has a child. Meanwhile, Stranger Things *still* hasn?t released their final season. Thats just craziness, right?

Here are some photos from the London premiere of Caught Stealing, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Zoe Kravitz, Austin Butler and Matt Smith. It looks like the kind of offbeat, violent movie which used to be made all the time, but the fact that it?s being dumped in the dead of August without any film festival premieres just shows you that there?s very little faith in it commercially. Too bad, because it feels like Austin really needs to prove that he can carry a movie without the Elvis voice. Dune 2 doesn?t count, although he was wonderful in that! But it wasn?t HIS movie he just gave a scene-stealing supporting performance.
Austin and Zoe both wore Saint Laurent. Did they coordinate on purpose, a little his-and-hers black-and-white YSL? There were many, many rumors that this movie ruined Austin and Zoe?s other relationships at the time Zoe quickly ended her engagement to Channing Tatum and Austin ended things with Kaia Gerber. Zoe and Austin have, I believe, been quietly dating for months, and there?s some evidence for that belief!
InStyle devoted an article to Zoe?s ?divisive hair trend? from the ?early 2000s?: side bangs. While I?m an avowed bangs-hater, I don?t have a huge issue with Zoe?s lil? side bangs. What bugs me is the ?wet-look hair? which certain women are trying to bring back. My wet-hair culture is not a costume!! Stop trying to make ?wet-look hair? into a thing! That goes for Kim Kardashian too, she?s been trying to make this into a trend for a decade. As for Austin? I will pay him $20 to wear a shirt with a collar. He?s also trying to make a trend happen: tanks under baggy suits. Enough!!
