Last November US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy was announced as one of the leaders of a commission to study the impact of loneliness on all aspects of our well being. This appointment came on the heels of the World Health Organization (WHO) officially labeling loneliness a global issue. Sharon Stone is also working with WHO as an ambassador on this issue. Sharon, proving once again that she?s hotter than she?s ever been! In all sincerity, she?s an empathic advocate and I love that she?s doing this (especially while Hollywood still fumbles over giving her good parts). Sharon recently sat down with Alex Salmond on his Turkish TV show (Salmond is a former Scottish minister, just go with it) and talked about mental health, resilience, being kind to yourself, and bread baking:
Sharon Stone shared her own struggles with mental health in an emotional interview.
?We?re all trying to confront our demons and we?re all acting out ? me too,? the actress, 66, told host Alex Salmond during an appearance on Turkish Tea Talk, a news program in Turkey.
The actress, who skyrocketed to fame in the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct, shared that she still struggles with her memory after suffering a stroke in 2001 that led to a near-fatal brain hemorrhage.
?It?s like the life that was this other person, that you can claim as your life but it doesn?t feel like, ?Oh I was there, I did that.??
?I didn?t remember all of it for a very long time, and I still don?t remember all of it,? Stone said, ?but I get pieces of it back.?
Stone also talked about her work as an ambassador with the World Health Organization, and said that mental health is a problem ?on a global level,? which she linked to the start of the Covid pandemic.
?Covid happened and we shut down the world and you had to be with just you,? the Casino star said. ?Now that was great for people who wanted to learn to bake bread ? the whole world wanted to learn to bake bread, right? Then people wanted to learn other languages. I wanted to get back to my painting.?
?But for those people who don?t like who they got to be with, one in 10 people on a global level are having a mental problem.?
Stone continued, ?One in 10 on a global scale can?t handle that already.?
?The possibility of living with who you are as the only solid? people don?t know who they are.?
The mom of three said that the journey to improve mental health ?must start with the individual? being kind to themselves while also having accountability for their actions.
?You must stand strong and when you blow it ? okay, so what? That was two steps ago,? Stone said.
?You have to get back up and get yourself together and help whoever you think you bumped around, and keep moving forward.?
And, she added, it?s important to express ?instant forgiveness for yourself. Instant forgiveness for whoever shoved you down.?
Then, she said, ?Get back up and let?s go.?

Not once during the lockdown days of the pandemic did I have the yen to learn how to bake bread or learn a new language. Does that mean there?s something wrong with me? (Don?t answer that). I was in New York for the duration, and it was pretty bleak here in those early months. Even as things changed so rapidly at the beginning, I knew that I could handle being with just me. I?d had a lot of practice at it (stop laughing), and I felt grateful, or lucky even that I had the kind of disposition that would be ok in isolation. Because I knew that wasn?t true for everyone. And what I learned after about two years of not seeing my friends and family in person was how even for me, someone content in her own company, my spirit lit up when with other people.
If you have 26 minutes to spare I highly recommend watching the full interview. Sharon is a trip, and I mean that as the ultimate compliment! She?s fascinating to watch, I think because of the way she straddles that line of ?Is she nutty?? or ?Is she brilliant?? (The answer is: yes.) The mantra of getting back up is talked about a lot (for good reasons!), but I appreciate Sharon also noting to be kind to yourself, and others, over our stumbles. You?re gonna have some unproofed dough along the way towards mastering your perfect loaf. (At least I think that?s right; I still know nothing about baking bread.)

Before Kirsten Dunst met Jesse Plemons, she had a good sense of what she wanted. I remember her interviews from the pre-Jesse era very well she was actively looking for a man to ?settle down.? She wanted to get married and have babies and she was very clear about it. Then in 2015-ish, she was cast in a season of Fargo and Jesse was cast as her character?s husband. The rest is history. They ended up dating after filming Fargo, and everything came together. She gave birth to their two sons Ennis and James, and Kirsten and Jesse reportedly married in 2022. They seem really happy and they seem like they really ?get? each other. Well, it turns out, they both just ?knew.?
The connection between Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons was instant. In a recent cover profile for Texas Monthly highlighting Plemons, 35, Dunst recalled first meeting her now-husband on the set of FXs Fargo series almost a decade ago.
?Immediately I felt safe, and he did too,? said the actress, 41. ?And free.?
Dunst also referred to her husband as one of the kindest humans I?ve ever met during the couples chat with the magazine.
?I think that sensitivity makes him very astute when it comes to other people, she added.
The couple first met when they played a married couple on season 2 of Fargo in 2015, though their romantic relationship didnt develop until about a year and a half later. And Plemons and Dunsts onscreen collaboration didnt stop at Fargo. They were later both nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Supporting Actress and Actor categories, respectively, for their roles in 2021s The Power of the Dog. They will also star together in the upcoming movie Civil War, which follows a group of people in a race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor?s edge.
In a 2020 interview with The New York Times, Dunst said they bonded over being former child stars: We laugh about the fact that we were two child actors, and we both made it out okay. About working with Dunst for the first time, Plemons added, I knew that she would be in my life for a long time.

I love these kinds of couples, the ?we just knew? couples who meet and everything just falls into place. It?s sweet and you can just feel how they make so much sense together. No drama, no chaos. I love how they constantly work with each other too, like they?re a package deal. Whenever Dunst gets cast in anything, she suggests Jesse for other available parts. She did that with her latest film, Civil War she suggested Jesse to director Alex Garland. She?s done that a few times.

In honor of their anniversary (not really, lol), Jon?s been giving some personal interviews lately. Jon?s promoting his documentary, Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, which is streaming on Hulu. Last week, Jon told The Independent that he hadn?t been ?a saint? during their marriage, admitting that he indulged in the ?wonderful clichs of rock stardom.? (Psst, he meant groupies.) Dorothea and Jon have four children together, Stephanie, 30, Jesse, 29, Jake, 21 (engaged to Millie Bobbie Brown), and Romeo, 20. In an interview with ABC?s Michael Strahan earlier this week, Jon elaborated a bit more on his past infidelities, explaining, ?I?m a rock ?n? roll star.?
Jon Bon Jovi has more to confess. After making headlines for saying he was not a ?saint? in his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Hurley, the rock star admitted to getting ?away with murder.?
Bon Jovi, 62, spoke to Michael Strahan about his early days in the music industry during ABC?s ?Halfway There? special Monday, joking that he was ?not saying that there weren?t 100 girls in [his] life? at the time.
?I?m a rock ?n? roll star. I?m not a saint,? he said. ?I?m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good.
?But if you think I was ever going to jeopardize ? anything for believing the narcissist in me was real? What a stupid thing to do. What kind of excesses does a man need that?s going to fuel that fire? It?s just not worth it.?
The Grammy winner went on to praise Hurley, 61, for not being ?afraid to call [him] out on something.?
However, he added, ?She?s also there when I fall. And I?m there for her when she falls. No matter where I went in my career, the ups or the downs, we went there together.?
The couple began dating in 1980, four years before the release of Bon Jovi?s eponymous first album. The duo briefly split in 1985 before reconciling and eventually eloping in Las Vegas in 1989. Bon Jovi and the karate instructor share four children ? Stephanie, 30, Jesse, 29, Jake, 21, and Romeo, 20 ? with the third making headlines for his 2023 engagement to ?Stranger Things? star Millie Bobby Brown.
While sharing marriage advice for the young couple with ?Good Morning America? viewers Thursday, the ?Livin? on a Prayer? singer said ?every day is a challenge and a change.?
He encouraged Jake and Brown, 20, to focus on ?growing together.?

Okay, so, what goes on between Jon and Dorothea in terms of the rules and terms of their marriage is obviously strictly their business. It sounds like Dorothea knows exactly who she married, has come to terms with it, and accepts Jon for all of his weaknesses and flaws. And if that works for them, then power to them. They clearly still love each other 35 years and hundreds of female groupies later. That said, I would be sooo pissed if my husband and I had an agreement like that and he kept giving interviews alluding to how much he cheated on me while simultaneously praising me. If anything, I?d probably want to be a part of any of that kind of talk, similar to how Oliver Hudson?s wife was a part of his big infidelity confessions. This isn?t the first time Jon?s alluded to being unfaithful, either. He?s done it several times in past interviews, too. No one?s marriage is perfect, but I really hope she?s okay with all of this sharing.

Y?all know I?m a big fan of Vice President Kamala Harris. VP Harris has gotten a raw deal from a lot of beltway pundits and the media. So much so, I think the Biden-Harris administration is really leaning into the ?get the hell out of Washington? route to speak directly to Americans. Why would President Biden give an interview to the New York Times when he can chat with Howard Stern (as he did last week). Why would VP Harris sit down with The Atlantic when she could appear on Drew Barrymore?s talk show? Here?s why this was such a good choice for Kamala Harris: Drew is sort of crazy, cringe and extra and she doesn?t have personal space so she makes VP Harris look good in comparison. The number of people expressing sympathy for VP Harris for getting through Drew?s interview is amazing. For what it?s worth, I don?t think VP Harris actually minded any of it. This is part of a strategy to humanize Kamala and show people what she?s like as a woman, stepmother, wife, etc.
?We need you to be Mamala of the country? lmao. As I said, I adore VP Harris but y?all know even she was stifling a laugh. Speaking of, Drew asked VP Harris about her widely-mocked laugh. Kamala has a great laugh, she laughs with her whole body when she gets really tickled by something. Kamala told Drew that she has her mother?s laugh and people need to get a grip, basically.

Jerry Seinfeld has been promoting Unfrosted, a movie about Pop Tarts, in recent weeks. He was recently profiled by GQ, and he took a dump on the film industry, saying in part: ?Film doesn?t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives.When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked. Now we?re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.? I put that in the links last week and there was some debate. For what it?s worth, I think it?s true that the film industry has changed radically in the past 15-20 years, but all of the changes haven?t been bad. There?s more diversity across the board, more niche-market art being made and we?re living in a more stratified culture rather than the more homogenous pop culture of the 1990s. While Seinfeld might have been on the verge of making a decent point last week, this week he?s just an old man yelling at the politically correct youths.
Jerry Seinfeld said in an interview with The New Yorker while touting his feature directorial effort ?Unfrosted? that ?P.C. crap? and the ?extreme left? is making television comedy go extinct. Seinfeld is a sitcom icon thanks to his eponymous NBC sitcom that ran between 1989 and 1998, but he says viewers no longer flock to their television sets in order to get their comedy fix like they did for decades.
?Nothing really affects comedy. People always need it. They need it so badly and they don?t get it,? Seinfeld said. ?It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ?Oh, ?Cheers? is on. Oh, ?MASH? is on. Oh, ?Mary Tyler Moore? is on. ?All in the Family? is on.? You just expected, ?There?ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight.? Well, guess what?where is it? This is the result of the extreme left and P.C. crap, and people worrying so much about offending other people.?
Seinfeld noted that comedy fans are ?now going to see stand-up comics because we are not policed by anyone. The audience polices us. We know when we?re off track. We know instantly and we adjust to it instantly. But when you write a script and it goes into four or five different hands, committees, groups??Here?s our thought about this joke.? Well, that?s the end of your comedy.?
?We did an episode of the [?Seinfeld?] in the nineties where Kramer decides to start a business of having homeless people pull rickshaws because, as he says, ?They?re outside anyway,? he continued. ?Do you think I could get that episode on the air today??We would write a different joke with Kramer and the rickshaw today. We wouldn?t do that joke. We?d come up with another joke. They move the gates like in the slalom. Culture?the gates are moving. Your job is to be agile and clever enough that, wherever they put the gates, I?m going to make the gate.?
Seinfeld went on to stress that it?s the ?stand-ups? who ?really have the freedom? to cross the line when it comes to comedy nowadays, further suggesting that television networks are no longer interested in doing anything that will ruffle feathers and offend the P.C. crowd.

?Culture?the gates are moving. Your job is to be agile and clever enough that, wherever they put the gates, I?m going to make the gate.? Yes, that?s the point? Comedy evolves, the audience evolves, jokes evolve, and comedians need to move with the times so they aren?t spending the latter half of their careers doing ?comedy? about how much young people suck because they don?t think it?s funny to make fun of gay folks anymore. I agree that there?s a real lack of network comedies these days, but again, that?s not the fault of comedy writers or, you know, the audience. At some point, networks just decided that game shows and singing competitions were more profitable and ?safer.? Comedy writers fled to cable, premium cable and streaming. It should be said though, in the past two decades, there were some excellent network sitcoms 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, The Office, Modern Family, Happy Endings. Streaming and cable widened the options Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Archer, Ted Lasso, Hacks, It?s Always Sunny, etc.
Also, the idea that Seinfeld (the show) was, like, pushing the envelope or incredibly dangerous or ribald is just false its comedy was mostly mining the banalities of life. ?I can?t do the comedy I want to do because the audience will be offended!? You can literally make all of the offensive jokes you want and punch down as hard as you want. No one will stop you. There just won?t be an audience for it.

Although we haven?t seen much of her lately, Britney Spears has had a lot going on this past year. In August she separated from husband Sam Asghari; there were accusations of cheating on both sides along with reports that Britney had assaulted Sam. After the split was initially announced Britney seemed to quiet down, even a couple months later when her best-selling, headline-making memoir The Woman In Me came out. Britney didn?t extensively promote the book herself, so much as she let the book speak for and sell itself. (Along with Michelle Williams? brilliant reading of the audio version.) So as 2023 closed with the success of her book, 2024 now sees Britney closing the chapter on the lingering legal dispute with her father Jamie. Yes, there was still an outstanding issue to be resolved over the 13-year conservatorship that officially ended in December 2021. Until now. Last week Britney and her father reached a settlement agreement:
Britney Spears and Jamie Spears have settled an ongoing dispute over legal fees after the first filing in December 2021.
More than two years after the conservatorship that had given the singer?s father control of her life ended, the pair settled the dispute over the legal fees pertaining to the conservatorship battle.
Both parties? attorneys confirmed with PEOPLE that the pair settled for an undisclosed sum in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, April 25.
?Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete,? Spears? attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, said in a statement. ?As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.?
?Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored,? Rosengart continued.
Jamie?s attorney, Alex Weingarten, said that the two parties ?reached a settlement agreement resolving all outstanding disputes.?
?I cannot comment on any specifics as the settlement is confidential. Jamie is thrilled that this is all behind him. He loves his daughter very much and everything he has ever done has been to protect and support her,? Weingarten continued in a statement to PEOPLE. ?It is unfortunate that some irresponsible people in Britney?s life chose to drag this on for as long as it has.?
As a result of this settlement, the two have avoided going to trial over the alleged financial misconduct during her conservatorship. The trial was set to start in May, reports The New York Times.
The dispute followed the 13-year conservatorship that began in 2008. Jamie was removed as the conservator of her estate in September 2021, and the entire conservatorship was terminated two months later.
The following month, Jamie began a pursuit of court approval for more than $2 million in fees that he had paid to multiple law firms throughout the legal battle, as well as payment for his current lawyer?s legal bill, per The New York Times.

So basically, upon the end of the conservatorship in 2021, Jamie sued Britney to have his legal bills paid, both to cover the 13-year period during which he oversaw her finances, and for the current litigation (thus also giving King Charles a run for his money on dogsh?t father on the year). Britney?s team then tried bringing the receipts, countering that Jamie mishandled her money during the conservatorship. This settlement, then, means that Spears vs Spears won?t go to trial over Jamie?s mishandling of Britney?s money (which is a shame), and Jamie is probably also getting a tidy sum towards his legal bills (which blows). It seems like two wins for Jamie, but in balance I think it actually might be better for Britney to have the case wrapped up. The best possible thing for Britney would be to have a good team around her, who truly care about her financial, physical, and emotional wellbeing. Even if she had all of the evidence on her side, going through a trial is still hugely taxing. More than any other kind of win, I wish Britney peace of mind moving forward.

When Rebecca Ferguson was promoting Dune 2 a few months back, she gave a more extended interview to a podcast. Ferguson ended up revealing something which made international headlines: that she worked with a top-billed A-lister who was an ?absolute idiot,? a star who screamed at her and belittled her in front of cast and crew. Ferguson described being so upset, she basically went to the director and asked not to even have scenes with this actor. She was very careful in her description, to the point where people weren?t even sure if she was describing a man or a woman. It became a huge blind item and Rebecca?s former costars were all chiming in and screaming ?it?s not me, I?m not the one who treated her like sh-t!? Well, a few days ago, Ferguson appeared on The Jess Cagle Show and she was asked about the whole kerfuffle:
Rebecca Ferguson did not expect her comments about the idiot actor who made her cry on set to go viral. The Dune star said shes received phone calls from former costars for sharing her experience, but also noted that the identity of the unnamed actor who berated her is not important.
What I realized even at the age that I am now is it doesn?t matter, Ferguson said during a recent appearance on SiriusXMs The Jess Cagle Show. I am me. I definitely think I?m much more open. I also know where my boundaries are. But the point of the interview wasn?t about finding the person. Of course, people will be interested. But I was excited about the question, which was a very good question.
Because the point was, she continued, is there a point in your career where you were treated in a way where . . . you want change, or you will not accept it? And it was such a clear moment for me working with this person. But I got phone calls from amazing costars who I?ve worked with going, ?You understand what you?ve done, right??? Ferguson added, ?And I was like, ?Oh my God. No, I didn?t think.? I mean, it?s not my responsibility, to be honest. I don?t really care. You know, you?re great, but my story is my story, and if you?re a good person, then don?t worry about it.
Ferguson revealed on the Reign With Josh Smith podcast earlier this year that an absolute idiot of a costar made her cry and walk off set after they had screamed, You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with? She said at the time, Because this person was number one on the call sheet, there was no safety net for me. No one had my back.?
She said it was the first time she spoke up for herself on set, recalling that she told the unnamed costar to get off my set and F off. She wound up acting with the back of the costars head, and her director later backed her up. ?It was great from that moment, but it took so long for me to get to that,? Ferguson said.

Yeah, I think her initial intention was simply to describe a moment in her life/career where she was berated and she stood up for herself and set a professional boundary. In that sense, the story wasn?t about WHO did what, it was about how she reacted. That being said, of course people want to know the person?s identity! Rebecca is well-liked, even beloved by fans and coworkers. It?s sort a Me Too-adjacency thing too, while Rebecca didn?t describe being harassed or physically attacked, she was still treated in an unacceptable and abusive way. People want to know! People especially want to know if the person was Jake Gyllenhaal.

Here are some photos of Zendaya this week in New York, making the final push for Challengers (which is out today). I love this white, wide-legged jumpsuit so chic, so flattering. Zendaya and her Challengers costars have spent the past month (or longer) zigzagging around the world, premiering and promoting the film. Zendaya?s boyfriend Tom Holland hasn?t been around that much in the past month, mostly because he?s working on a play in London (Romeo & Juliet). He did attend the tennis tournament in Indian Wells with Zendaya last month, which was really cool. Tom and Zendaya didn?t walk any red carpets for the film though, which is fine with me I never doubted that they were still together, and they seem to keep their work stuff separate. But I still had questions about their relationship they?ve been together for years already, and it wouldn?t surprise me if they?re talking about their future in a real way. There has been talk of marriage, and that is a reality, a source tells PEOPLE.
The British actor and the Emmy-winning Euphoria star, both 27, met making their trilogy of Spider-Man movies together. Since then, theyve kept their off-camera romance mostly private.
They are not the kind of stars who put their lives together out there on social media for the most part, explains the source.
Both are private, says the source, who adds that attention on them while in the public eye has never been easy or comfortable for either of them.
For, Zendaya, whose film Challengers hits theaters this weekend, and Holland, who stars in Romeo and Juliet on Londons West End in May, work is important to both and that keeps them busy now, adds the source. Reps for both actors did not immediately respond to PEOPLEs requests for comment.

Aw. I hope they do get married! But only if that?s what they really want. My feeling has always been that Tom is just completely, crazy-in-love with Zendaya. It would feel natural if they just quietly got married at some point.

Post-Super Bowl, I?ve gone back and forth about whether I believe Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are in it for the long haul. For about a month post-Super Bowl, my vibe was that they were actually winding things down. Then Travis seemed to recommit himself, and he stayed with Taylor in LA for more than a month, and they reportedly enjoyed their downtime together. Then Taylor released The Tortured Poets Department, most of which is about Matt Healy, with some Joe Alwyn and Travis thrown in. How does Travis feel about it? A ?source? told People Magazine that Travis listened to the album before its release and ?He is always in awe of her.? Which might even be true, but it sounded like it came from Taylor?s people, not Kelce sources. So, yeah, I don?t know what to tell you the vibe is off again. The source says that while the Kansas City Chiefs star seems more than comfortable in the limelight ? hosting his own podcast, and even once starring in his own ?Bachelor?-style TV dating show, ?Catching Kelce? ? Swift?s level of boundless fame can be daunting for anyone.
?There?s very little oxygen between her life and fame,? says the source. ?Travis is a peacock, but he has never dated a celeb before, and she is one of the most famous women in the world. Right now he is enjoying everything and she is hoping that it stays like that.?
The insider adds that Swift is stressing that ?he doesn?t get freaked out about the fame. That the constant-ness of it doesn?t get exhausting for him.?
Now that Swift?s latest album has dropped, things are even more in overdrive. Our source tells us that like all artists, Swift can feel ?vulnerable,? after releasing her music.

If Taylor and Travis break up, this will be the conversation from Team Swift, right? He couldn?t handle her fame, it was too much for him, he didn?t realize that her fans just love her so much, he was unprepared for TTPD?s success. Team Swift ran a similar op on Joe Alwyn post-breakup too Joe only liked Taylor when she was lowkey and never went out, Joe couldn?t handle her super-stardom, etc. When it turned out that Taylor was (most likely) banging Matt Healy at the end of her relationship with Joe. Anyway, the vibe is off. It will be interesting to see if Travis joins Taylor for her European concerts. My half-assed prediction is that Travis will come to Europe for a week or so and then there will be a slow phase-out.

Zendaya, Josh O?Connor and Mike Faist cover the current issue of Variety, all to promote Challengers. While Variety interviews the actors, the piece is also about the strange journey this film has had for the past two years. What was supposed to be a more art-house drama about a tennis love-triangle has gotten the promotional rollout of a potential blockbuster, and that?s after producers pushed back the release date because of the strikes last year. I also learned something new: the screenwriter developed the script after watching the 2018 US Open women?s final, the disaster which unfolded between Serena Williams and chair umpire Carlos Ramos, where Naomi Osaka ended up winning her first major title. Zendaya on filming the threesome scene: ?The only reason I really remember is because Beyonc came out with ?Break My Soul? that day. I was having a great day, like, ?Y?all. Beyonc?s single just dropped.? That?s what I was focused on, to be honest.? Josh O?Connor: ?We lost Zendaya for like a week. She was on set, normal, chatting with us. Then one day Beyonc released something. They called ?cut,? and she immediately had headphones in. She was completely lost to the world.?
Zendaya on how this is more than a tennis movie: ?It?s a movie, and it?s tennis, but it?s not a tennis movie. It?s much deeper. Tennis is just a metaphor for a lot of bigger sh-t. For power. For codependency. They?re using tennis as their device to get these things out of their system. It?s the only way they know how to communicate.?
Zendaya became tennis-obsessed though: ?I?m watching tennis as we speak. I?m watching Wimbledon.? As Novak Djokovic triumphed over Andrey Rublev, she said, ?I was not a tennis person before this. All I really knew was, like, Serena and Roger Federer. So I just threw myself in there. I?ve pretty much seen every video, every match that?s online. It became my thing.?
O?Connor on getting fit: ?I find gyms incredibly tedious. I get bored very quickly. I always catch myself in the mirror, and I?m like, ?You look so pathetic. You look rubbish holding your weights. And out of your depth.? So I just never really lasted.? But he?s so built in ?Challengers,? he felt proud to wear a sleeveless shirt in the final tennis match in the film. The competition and camaraderie motivated him to get in shape. ?There?s a piece of equipment that measures how strong your abdominals are. And Zendaya had the best abs of the three of us by a long way. I remember me and Mike laughing, but we were also furious and desperately trying to improve our strength.?
Zendaya on the racial element to the script: ?It?s very clear to her that she?s coming into a place of privilege and access that she clearly didn?t grow up with, so she enjoys fking with them about it. All of her background is riding on her shoulders. It?s clear that she?s had to fight her way in, and is dealing with it on the daily, what it means to be a Black girl in that space. Tennis means more to her than it does to them; it?s not just something she decided to do because ?I had the luxury of getting tennis lessons as a kid.? This is it for her. This is what?s going to take care of herself and her family and the future. There?s so much riding on it.?

As I read more about the film, it feels like there?s one big ?tennis flaw? in the script the idea that Zendaya?s Tashi would be this amazing young player and everyone knew she was on the verge of becoming a superstar, AND she was putting that on hold to go to Stanford. That? rarely happens. I don?t think that?s ever happened in tennis?s open era. Someone as good as Tashi would have turned pro at 16/17, if not before. As for Zendaya becoming tennis-obsessed? I love it. I love the idea that she?s watching all of the YouTube highlights videos and doing deep dives into Serena Williams and Justin Henin?s rivalry. Some people have suggested that Zendaya might have even used Jelena Ostapenko as an inspo for some scenes. I HOPE SO!
