Hugh Grant is in NYC to promote his latest movie, The Rewrite, which is probably another mediocre but not outright awful vehicle. On Wednesday night, he appeared on Watch What Happens Live, which is increasingly becoming a go-to stop on so many actors? promotional trails. I?m not sure how I feel about that! But Hugh was actually somewhat charming. It was during the ?Plead the Fifth? part of the show that Hugh made the most news:
First question: Andy Cohen asked Hugh when he last watch p0rn. Hugh said: “I?m rather proud of this. About three years. I went cold turkey? I now have three children, so I think there’s a correlation.” Yes, he does have three children. With two different women, with their pregnancies overlapping. Classic. And is “cold turkey” a weird kind of fancy p0rn? Because he’s totally still watching p0rn.
Cohen also asked him about his 11-year relationship with Elizabeth Hurley back in the day, when they were one of the hottest British couples in the world. The question was ?Why didn?t it work out?? and Hugh thinks for a moment and says, ?It did. She’s still my best friend. The sex bit probably fizzled out, but now she’s my absolute best friend. [She's] the number one person I call in a crisis.?
Then Sarah Jessica Parker called in and asked him who he would prefer not to work with again and Hugh had to plead the fifth. It seemed like Hugh and SJP were very awkward with each other, but he apparently does like her, so it?s not like he was going to say ?I would prefer to never work with SJP again.? He actually listed his favorite leading ladies as SJP, Sandra Bullock and Marisa Tomei. Besides, in another part of the show, he said that he doesn?t stay in touch with Julia Roberts and that?s because ?I’ve probably made too many jokes about the size of her mouth. She might hate me by now.” He made a joke about how he “was aware of a faint echo” as he kissed Julia but, “She is actually… she was great and very, very beautiful.”
Oh, and Hugh also talked about Jon Stewart. A few months ago, Stewart said Hugh was the worst guest he?s ever had. Hugh said on WWHL: “He wasn’t entirely wrong. I did have a tantrum backstage. About once a year, I have a really mega tantrum and sadly he witnessed one. So, he’s absolutely right?I get very annoyed when people think that I’m sort of nice or diffident or [a] polite English gentleman ? all those phrases make me gnash my teeth. I’m a nasty piece of work and I think people should know that. It’s enraging.”

These are photos from last night’s Unite:4humanity gala in Beverly Hills, which honors celebrities for their commitment to charity. Halle Berry, a longtime supporter of domestic violence causes and in particular The Jenesse Center, was presented with the Creative Conscience Award by Queen Latifah. Halle was in a black v-neck David Koma gown with a fitted zippered bodice and a slightly asymmetrical bell skirt. This is a great dress for the occasion and it’s sexy without showing too much skin. I am not liking Halle’s new hair, which is surely extensions anyway. (She had a chin length bob a couple of weeks ago.) The whole vibe is very Jennifer Garner, but it’s not fug. I just wish she was still rocking short hair, it really suits her.
Emily Blunt was in a bizarre Peter Pilotto dress featuring metal florescent flower-like appliques. I don’t get this dress at all. Maybe if the rivet things were limited to just the top, it wouldn’t seems as busy. Kaiser mentioned to me that Emily looks very thin. She does look smaller than she did a couple of months ago.

Two women wore oversize pantsuits to the event, a newly blonde Camilla Belle and Beth Behrs. Camilla’s hair makes her look like a different person, but she gets points for wearing a shell under her jacket. (Just because Jennifer Aniston does it, doesn’t make it ok.) Both of these suits need tailoring.

We haven?t written about Chelsea Handler in months. Hasn?t that been such a relief? Chelsea said goodbye to her E! show, Chelsea Lately, late last summer. She had spent months bitching and moaning about the show was beneath her talents, and she was trying to hustle her way into some kind of ?smart? gig, openly talking about how she would love to do something like The Daily Show. She even tried to hustle her name onto the shortlist for David Letterman?s replacement. I can?t tell you how pleased I am that she failed at all of that. Nowadays she?s so desperate for attention, she keeps posting topless selfies on her social media. She allegedly has a Netflix talk show (or something) but that doesn?t start until 2016. And that?s about it. Still, she was invited to the Code/Media conference and she ended up biting the hand that fed her yet again. Unprofessional dumbass.
Onward and upward! Chelsea Handler spent seven years of her life hosting E!’s Chelsea Lately, and now that it’s over, she’s ready for something bigger and better — emphasis on the latter. Speaking at the Code/Media conference in California on Wednesday, Feb. 18, the comedienne couldn’t help taking a few shots at her former gig.
“The subject matter I was dealing with on E!, you know, it was a fun way to get started and kind of have a great time,” she told hosts Kara Swisher and Peter Kafka of the late-night program, which ran from 2007 to 2014. “And then after a while, I just was like, I’m so much smarter than that show was, and I wanted to be doing a show that was smarter than I was.”
That’s what she hopes to accomplish with her Netflix deal, which includes a new talk show in 2016. Handler said she chose the streaming service (now a major TV programmer thanks to hits like Orange Is the New Black and House of Cards) because she didn’t want to just “go fill in someone else’s shoes” at an already-established show on another network. “I wanted to create my surroundings,” she explained.
She’s still working out the specifics of what her new show will entail, but so far, at least, the Netflix partnership has been a success.
“It’s nice to be involved in a show where I do respect their opinions,” she said. “I respect Netflix. So it’s like going out with a guy that you’re proud to be seen with.”
The stand-up star also spoke at the conference about her recent streak of topless photos on Twitter and Instagram. “I’m not trying to look fantastic. That’s just a by-product,” she joked. “I’m also not trying to sexualize myself in any way.”
What she is trying to do is make a point about the nudity rules on various social media platforms. (Instagram, for example, does not allow nudity and will take down any photo it deems inappropriate.)

How many different times and ways can she complain about a show that she created out of thin air, by sleeping with (then married) boss? And I?ve heard Chelsea?s stand-up and I?ve read more interviews with her than I care to admit, and I?m here to tell her something. Dear Chelsea: you are not smarter than Chelsea Lately. Chelsea Lately was your cash cow and the best vehicle for your marginal talent. And you let your ego and your yes-men tell you that you could do better, and now you?re posting topless selfies for attention. Maybe it?s time to stop bitching?

Anna Kendrick has a decent interview and editorial in the new edition of pret-a-porter.com?s online magazine, The Edit. You can see the full editorial and interview here. She?s promoting her musical role in The Last Five Years, based on the stage musical. I think that?s the film where there are no speaking parts? Every line of dialogue is sung? I think so. As I?ve been saying, I really like Kendrick these days and I think she?s about to take it to the next level. It won?t necessarily be with this film, but I?m expecting Pitch Perfect 2 to make crazy money and be a gigantic success. It would make me happy if Kendrick was the big movie star of the year, you know? Here are some highlights from The Edit:
Her heroines: ?Women who are willing to show themselves and be honest, and be a little ugly?, namely comediennes such as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Amy Schumer, Chelsea Peretti and friend Aubrey Plaza. ?I love it when people don?t want things to be polite and comfortable. Sometimes I catch myself self-censoring in that way, where it feels like I?m being kind of edgy and subversive, but I know that I?m not; I know that I?m playing it safe.?
Why she?s so active on Twitter: ?I love seeing what people respond to and think is funny; it?s kind of a puzzle. Trying to express yourself in 140 characters can be this little word game,? she explains. Kendrick regularly puts her tweets through multiple drafts before sending them out into the ether. ?Some people play Candy Crush; I try to perfect my tweets.?
Is she pretending to be ?normal?? ?I guess, maybe? It feels dishonest to me to let anybody in the world think that my farts smell like lavender, or something.?
She cater-waiter?d to make ends meet in the early days: ?I kept wishing, when I got these jobs that were barely enough to keep me afloat, could they just keep me a little more afloat? Maybe a little more than the bare minimum I need to keep the lights on??
She only got rid of her waitress uniform two years ago: ?It was this underlying sense of, ?Well, I definitely have to keep those, in case I need the extra cash.?
Aging in the industry: ?I know that things will be more complicated as an older actress, in ways that I can?t anticipate, but I would really enjoy getting to the point where the reason I?m getting roles or not isn?t based on if somebody thinks I?m hot enough. I feel like I?ve always been a character actress, and this is a blip in my career where I?m playing the ingnue. I?ll be a lot more comfortable and get excited when I?m playing women who aren?t supposed to be pretty.?

That?s very smart for Anna to approach her career like, ?I?m a character actress at heart.? Too many young actresses don?t realize that about themselves. I think Anna will end up having a lengthy career because of it, although she?s probably got another six to seven years of playing the ingnue or the ?girlfriend? or the hot girl. As for her lavender farts?obviously, her farts smell of sunshine and musical theater summer camp.
