The first Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones?s Diary, is so good. It?s everything you want from a romantic comedy it?s genuinely funny, it?s comforting, it?s delightfully weird in some places, and it has an extremely likable heroine and a very good Mr. Darcy. The second film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was not particularly good but still somewhat enjoyable, and they mostly kept to the source material (Helen Fielding?s second book). The wheels well and truly came off for the third film, Bridget Jones?s Baby, in which Bridget tried to choose between Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth? all while she was close to 50 years old and pregnant. It was a complete mess and it should have killed the franchise. I thought it did! And then we started hearing rumors about a fourth Bridget Jones movie in the works. Well, it turns out that Renee Zellweger is still interested in milking this dead-and-buried franchise, because she?s officially signed on. It will be an adaptation of Fielding?s Mad About the Boy.
Rene Zellweger (Judy) has closed a deal to reprise the role that brought her her first Oscar nomination in Universal Pictures and Working Title?s Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Deadline has learned.
Others set to return in the film, from director Michael Morris (To Leslie), include Hugh Grant (Wonka) and Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande). Newcomers to the cast will include Chiwetel Ejiofor (Rob Peace) and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus).
Based on the third book in Fielding?s series, Mad About the Boy picks up with Bridget in her early fifties, as she navigates the challenges of modern life while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. No word yet as to who Ejiofor and Woodall will be playing.

I?m sad to report that I have read Mad About the Boy and I think I know which characters Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor are playing. While it will be cute to see Chiwetel as a traditional romantic lead, I wish it was not in a Bridget Jones movie! My God. Leo is definitely being cast as the much-younger man she dates for a few months, right?
Major Spoilers: if we?re going with the Bridget Jones Cinematic Universe, I would assume that Mark Darcy and Bridget get married after she gives birth to their son (at the end of Bridget Jones?s Baby) and then the fourth film will pick up using Mad About the Boy as the source material the book picks up about a year or two after Mark Darcy?s death. That?s why Colin Firth isn?t ?returning? to the franchise because Helen Fielding killed him off in the book, which is all about Bridget getting back into the dating scene (and as always, losing weight) as a widowed single mother.

The Oscar producers wanted to do a mini-reunion for Four Weddings and a Funeral, so they invited Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell to present together. It?s kind of shocking that Hugh actually said yes yes to flying to LA, yes to the Oscars, yes to walking the red carpet. Thankfully, he?s still Hugh Grant, and once he arrived on the carpet, he was ushered to Ashley Graham, who was one of ABC?s red carpet hosts. Hugh wasn?t happy. He let Ashley know he wasn?t happy by refusing to engage in the typical red-carpet banter of ?who are you wearing? and ?what?s your favorite part of the Oscars? and ?here?s thirty seconds to promote whatever you have going on.?
As this unfolded live, you could see Hugh and Ashley figure out that they despised each other in real time. At first, I didn?t get Hugh?s ?Vanity Fair? reference either I also thought he was referencing the famous Vanity Fair Oscar party, but no, it was a literary reference to ?a fair that goes on perpetually in the town of Vanity and symbolizes worldly ostentation and frivolity.? Trust Hugh Grant to reference Pilgrim?s Progress on the Oscar red carpet. Anyway, Hugh might be the worst red carpet interviewee of all time.
When he presented with Andie, he seemingly went off script a bit, trying to be charming about how Andie looks amazing: Were actually here to do two things. The first is to raise awareness about the vital importance of using a good moisturizer. Andies been wearing one every day for the last 29 years. Ive never used one in my life?. Im basically a scrotum. I mean, it?s true? Hugh Grant has some dry-ass skin. Remember that miniseries he did with Nicole Kidman? He was maybe the ashiest man I?d ever seen in my life. I can?t believe he just wanders around so bitter and unmoisturized every day.

Maybe it?s my age, but I have, like, perfect recall of Hugh Grant?s entire career? He became a big deal because of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and followed that up with a wonderful turn in the Oscar-winning adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. There were years where he tried to be a ?dramatic actor,? and it felt like he was just saying yes to any script that came his way. Then he did Notting Hill, then Bridget Jones?s Diary and everybody just sort of acknowledged that Hugh was a romantic leading man and that?s all. As he got older, he worked less but he did start getting some ?deeper? roles here and there. He?s always been self-effacing about his rom-com-heavy career, as if being a good romantic lead is somehow something to be ashamed of. I think it?s more like Hugh doesn?t respect the genre of romances and romantic comedies though. He doesn?t think they?re realistic about ?happily ever after.?
Hugh Grant wants to know what happens after the credits roll. The 60-year-old actor recently took part in a question-and-answer session for HBO pegged to the release of his new thriller miniseries The Undoing, joking that he would be down to star in a follow-up to his 1999 romantic comedy Notting Hill ? with one stipulation.
I would like to do a sequel to one of my own romantic comedies that shows what happened after those films ended, said Grant. Really, to prove the terrible lie that they all were, that it was a happy ending.
In Notting Hill, Grant plays London bookstore owner Will Thacker, who meets American actress Anna Scott (played by Julia Roberts, now 52) after she enters his shop. The two then embark on an unlikely romance filled with hurdles surrounding Annas fame and associated tabloid drama but end up happily married with a baby on the way.
Id like to do me and Julia and the hideous divorce thats ensued with really expensive lawyers, children involved in [a] tug of love, floods of tears. Psychologically scarred forever, he said, laughing. Id love to do that film.

I? honestly wouldn?t mind seeing that film either?? That being said, of all his rom-coms, I think the fictional couple of Will and Anna probably would have worked out long-term. They would have split their time between LA and London. They would have two kids and Anna would probably get Will a job as some kind of screenwriter or associate producer. IDK, I think they would have worked out? Now, Bridget Jones? Daniel Cleaver would have ended up in a ditch and/or being married and divorced five times. His character in Four Weddings wouldn?t have been happy, long-term, with WhatsHerGuts. And his prime minister character in Love Actually would have dumped Natalie after a few years.

In the last decade, Hugh Grant became something of a respected media critic and politically active celebrity. He was very involved in the Leveson Inquiry in the UK, which was the name given to the huge scandal involving the British press hacking into the phones of celebrities, royals and victims of crimes. Grant has become something of an expert on matters involving the media and journalism, but he hasn?t said much of anything about how the British media treated the Duchess of Sussex. Hugh is currently out promoting Guy Ritchie?s The Gentlemen, and he was asked about Sussexit. Turns out, Hugh has some good thoughts.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a supporter in Hugh Grant. Appearing on SiriusXM?s ?Radio Andy? on Monday ? the same day as the historic Megxit summit ? Grant was asked his thoughts about Harry and Meghan?s recent decision to step away from their senior royal duties.
?I?m rather on Harry?s side, I have to say,? the British actor responded to host Andy Cohen. ?The tabloid press effectively murdered his mother [Princess Diana], now they?re tearing his wife to pieces.?
Grant, who has his own rocky relationship with the press, added on Monday, ?I think, as a man, it?s [Harry?s] job to protect his family so I?m with him.?

Hugh goes on to say that his own relationship with the British press is poor, and that most of the British outlets are not reputable whatsoever. Fair enough. Not that I think Hugh Grant is representative of what all British men, or posh British men think, but I do think Harry will continue to get credit among MEN because of what he?s done to protect his family.
Also: Stormzy also spoke about Meghan and Harry. Stormzy ?got in trouble? a few weeks ago because he said, flat-out, that Britain is a racist country. It feels like Harry and Meghan are getting a lot of support from all different demographics. So? why does the British media?s coverage not reflect that?

I was around for Hugh Grant?s first wave of success and it was somewhat enjoyable Four Weddings and a Funeral put him on the map, and then he followed it up with some successful and not-so-successful films. Even in his ?successful? years, he would go a while without anything sticking, then BOOM, Notting Hill or BOOM, Bridget Jones?s Diary. He did that for a while, then he took a break. He had five children in, like, seven years. He worked with Hacked Off on the British-media-hacking issue. And then slowly, he just started coming back to the acting world and there?s been something of a Grantaissance. That?s why Vanity Fair profiled him Hugh has been quietly doing more work more character work and he?s getting the best reviews of his life. At the age of 58, he?s happier than he?s ever been, he?s working constantly and people actually seem to, like, genuinely respect him. Working for three months on an HBO series, The Undoing: ?I feel very overworked. It?s way too long?way too long. I?m such a baby about television. I didn?t even realize that HBO is considered kind of the crme de la crme. Is that right??
His role in Paddington 2: ?I was presenting I think at the Golden Globes, and they do that thing when you walk out, and they say, ?From the forthcoming Paddington 2, Hugh Grant.? And someone showed me Twitter afterwards, and it was?people were full of derision. ?Christ, has it come to that. Poor old Hugh. Paddington 2. Sequel to a kids film.? It?s particularly annoying in the case of Paddington 2, because I genuinely believe it may be the best film I?ve ever been in.?
His first foray into TV, A Very English Scandal, playing disgraced MP Jeremy Thorpe: ?[I was] trying to find reasons not to do the job which is?I specialize in that. I sort of fear acting so much, or fear performing, I can always find reasons not to do something. I said, ?I?m too old.? It was a fabulous scandal. It had a sort of Monty Python element, because it was happening in the ?70s, sort of the last glimmer of old-fashioned British establishment, men in pinstripe suits, all backing each other up. So to have it all unraveling around this one man with murder and clandestine homosexuality, ?biting the pillow,? it was all brilliant.?
On Thorpe: ?It?s helpful to find the tragedy of the character you?re playing. I think that having to live a lie was a sort of sadness to [Thorpe] all his life. And I also think that his narcissism, which by all accounts was kind of out of control, was a source of unhappiness. Because it stops you from really caring about other people and loving them and feeling embraced. He only really adored himself, and I think that?s a kind of torture.?
He?s the father to a seven-year-old, two six-year-olds, a three-year-old, and a one-year-old. ?It?s sort of taken the lid off my bottled-up English emotions. I hate to talk this way, because it sounds so smug. And I used to loathe people who would say, ?Hugh, you?ve got to have children. You haven?t really lived until you have.? I hated those people. But there?s an element of truth. It?s one of those things you didn?t know you needed until you?ve done it.?
His kids are ?banned? from acting: ?The older ones, I?ve seen in a few school plays. And luckily, they display no talent. If I knew lots and lots of happy actors, I would recommend it. But seeing as I?ve never met a happy actor, I can?t. I?m just speaking off the top of my head, but the acting gene seems to me to come from people who have a relatively flimsy grasp of who they are. I?m not going to name names, but if you said to me, ?What do you think of X?? I?ll say, ?Well, I have no idea who that person is.? Because they?re always performing. They perform brilliantly, but you?ve no sense of them. And I think that?s a miserable way to live.?
Fatherhood & acting: ?I think it?s possible that having children has made me better at acting. I mean, it?s a terrible clich, but just sort of pure, unconditional love. It?s quite useful to have experienced it.?

What I enjoy about Hugh and I think he?s always been like this is that he shows people what it?s REALLY like to be a professional, working actor. He was like this in the ?90s too insecure, self-effacing, a little bit lazy, but you could also tell that he loved the perks of his job, and that he is (at heart) a drama queen who thrives on this sh-t. Basically, the man is a glorious mess and he?s always given great interviews. ?The older ones, I?ve seen in a few school plays. And luckily, they display no talent.? I lol?d. His defense of Paddington 2 is brilliant as well. The thesis from VF was that Hugh is actually, quietly having a ball now that no one expects him to play the romantic lead. Now he gets to have zero personal vanity and just do whatever he likes. It does suit him.

A week ago, we learned that Hugh Grant was finally going to get married for the first time at the age of 57. I don?t judge the ?famously unmarried? celebrities, because I too am famously unmarried and I won?t even consider marriage until a certain Argentine tennis player proposes to me. So I had made my peace with the fact that Hugh was probably never going to marry and would instead live his 50s, 60s and 70s as an old spinster, occasionally visiting his five children by two different women. But no he decided to marry one of his baby-mamas. They got married at the local register?s office.
Hugh Grant is married for the first time at 57! The Love Actually actor tied the knot with Swedish television producer Anna Eberstein in London at the Chelsea Register Office on Friday, May 25. Photos show the couple celebrating with friends and family outside of the wedding venue after tying the knot. Grant and Ebersteins wedding follows just days after the couples engagement was revealed and just months after the duo welcomed their third child together, Hughs fifth child.

I had to do a ridiculous amount of research on this, because Hugh Grant is so friggin? messy. Hugh Grant was one of those celebrity men who were famous for being unmarried, famous for never wanting to be married and never wanting to be ?settled down? with a woman. Then Tinglan Hong happened she was basically some minor hookup for Hugh, and she got pregnant. He bought her a house and she gave birth to a daughter, Tabitha. Then he seemed to double-down on Tinglan and he got her pregnant again, a few years later. They welcomed Felix Grant in 2013. Felix?s birth was notable because Tinglan was pregnant around the same time as Anna Eberstein, Hugh?s on-again/off-again girlfriend. Anna gave birth to Hugh?s son John Mungo Grant in 2012, and then Anna and Hugh had another baby in December 2015. Then Anna got knocked up again at some point last year, and I guess she gave birth at some point this year? So Hugh Grant is 57 years old and the father of five young children with two women. And now he?s going to marry one of them.
Hugh Grant is finally getting married at 57, The Sun can reveal. The actor, one of Britain?s best-known bachelors, is to tie the knot with Swedish girlfriend Anna Eberstein, 39, later this month. The engagement emerged in wedding banns posted at Kensington and Chelsea register office, near the couple?s $13 million home in West London. The official notice of the forthcoming marriage was on display on screens in the office at Chelsea Old Town Hall.
A source said: ?This is a day none of Hugh?s friends ever thought would come. He will soon be a pensioner and has finally become a family man.?
The star, who has three kids with Anna and two with former flame Tinglan Hong, has dated a string of women. But after meeting retail director Anna in a London bar six years ago, Grant finally appears to have settled down.

A glorious mess surrounded by babies and dirty diapers. Did anyone else do a double-take when Hugh Grant came on-stage at the Golden Globes to present the clip from Dunkirk? I second-guessed myself for a moment – was Hugh Grant in Dunkirk? No, he wasn?t. He?s just British, and Dunkirk is about British people, so I guess the Hollywood Foreign Press was like ?sure, close enough.? Which is how Hugh Grant came to attend the Globes. He brought along his girlfriend Anna Eberstein. I think they?ve been kinda/sorta together for something like four years or so, although it?s difficult to know for sure. You know why? Because Hugh Grant impregnated Anna around the same time he impregnated another woman, Tinglan Hong. Tinglan was his ex, he bought her a house and they have two babies together. Anna is his on-again/off-again girlfriend and they have two babies together (close in age to Tinglan?s babies). And now Anna is pregnant again.
Hugh Grant is reportedly set to become a father for the fifth time. The 57-year-old actor’s girlfriend Anna Eberstein’s mother Susanne reportedly spoke to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, saying: ‘I’m very happy to be getting another grandchild. She’s due rather soon.’
Hugh and Anna, who attended the Golden Globes together on Sunday evening, have two young children together – a son John, born in 2012, and a second child, born in December 2015. MailOnline has contacted representatives for Hugh for comment.
The name of their second child remains a mystery, but the birth was confirmed by Anna’s mother to a Swedish newspaper.

But there were other photos of Hugh and Anna in LA and she did have a sizeable bump, but I still don?t think she?s due very soon. But whatever. Who would have ever guessed that Hugh Grant would be doubling down so hard on fatherhood at the age of 57? He isn?t interested in marrying any of his baby-mamas, but I guess that?s okay with them. Now I wonder if we?re going to find out that Tinglan is expecting another baby too.

We knew it was happening! In October, the Daily Mail (and other outlets) reported that Hugh Grant was expecting his fourth child in four years? with his second baby-mama. Tinglan Hong was his first baby-mama, and she gave birth to Tabitha and Felix, born in 2011 and 2013 respectively. At the same time as Hugh was dealing with Tinglan, he also knocked up his more ?official? girlfriend, Anna Eberstein. Eberstein gave birth to son John Mungo Grant in 2012. And now Anna has given birth again, and yet again it?s another Grant baby.
Hugh Grant has become a father for the fourth time after his Swedish girlfriend Anna Eberstein gave birth, MailOnline can reveal. The 55-year-old actor has gone from having no children to being a father of four in just four years. His fourth love child was born to Ms Eberstein, 37, on Wednesday, Swedish regional newspaper Sundsvall Tinding reported.
?Anna Eberstein from Sundsvall has had her second child with film star Hugh Grant,? it said. ?The newest member of the family saw the light of day for the first time last Wednesday.?
Ms Eberstein, who is mother to Mr Grant’s second child, John, and the wider family are said to be overjoyed by the birth. Her delighted mother Susanne, a judge and prominent left-wing politician, confirmed to Swedish newspaper rnskldsviks Allehanda the baby, her second grandchild, had been born.
?I can confirm that I have another grandchild,’ she said. ?It is wonderful that we now have grandchildren [more than one grandchild].?
In October it emerged that Ms Eberstein, 37, was pregnant for a second time, although neither party have responded to questions about the paternity of the child. The couple have bought a villa on the Sweden?s south coast to be close to Ms Eberstein?s family, according to Sundsvall Tinding. The Four Weddings and a Funeral actor’s name appears alongside hers on the top line of a publicly available purchase letter for a 600,000 seaside home in Havskontakt in the south-west of Sweden.

While this is one of the most unconventional arrangements I?ve ever witnessed, it doesn?t seem like any of the legal adults have any problems with the strangeness of the situation. And in case you?re wondering if poor Tinglan got the short end of the stick (so to speak) because she?s never been trotted out as Hugh?s official girlfriend? well, Hugh did buy Tinglan a house, allegedly. He apparently bought her a luxurious townhouse close to his home, and to hear him tell it, he?s welcome over at Tinglan?s house all the time, and he sees Felix and Tabitha often. I?m guessing Tinglan got a nice financial settlement and everyone gets along? for now. But Anna might be getting some ideas about finally ?landing? England?s version of George Clooney.

Hugh Grant is in NYC to promote his latest movie, The Rewrite, which is probably another mediocre but not outright awful vehicle. On Wednesday night, he appeared on Watch What Happens Live, which is increasingly becoming a go-to stop on so many actors? promotional trails. I?m not sure how I feel about that! But Hugh was actually somewhat charming. It was during the ?Plead the Fifth? part of the show that Hugh made the most news:
First question: Andy Cohen asked Hugh when he last watch p0rn. Hugh said: “I?m rather proud of this. About three years. I went cold turkey? I now have three children, so I think there’s a correlation.” Yes, he does have three children. With two different women, with their pregnancies overlapping. Classic. And is “cold turkey” a weird kind of fancy p0rn? Because he’s totally still watching p0rn.
Cohen also asked him about his 11-year relationship with Elizabeth Hurley back in the day, when they were one of the hottest British couples in the world. The question was ?Why didn?t it work out?? and Hugh thinks for a moment and says, ?It did. She’s still my best friend. The sex bit probably fizzled out, but now she’s my absolute best friend. [She's] the number one person I call in a crisis.?
Then Sarah Jessica Parker called in and asked him who he would prefer not to work with again and Hugh had to plead the fifth. It seemed like Hugh and SJP were very awkward with each other, but he apparently does like her, so it?s not like he was going to say ?I would prefer to never work with SJP again.? He actually listed his favorite leading ladies as SJP, Sandra Bullock and Marisa Tomei. Besides, in another part of the show, he said that he doesn?t stay in touch with Julia Roberts and that?s because ?I’ve probably made too many jokes about the size of her mouth. She might hate me by now.” He made a joke about how he “was aware of a faint echo” as he kissed Julia but, “She is actually… she was great and very, very beautiful.”
Oh, and Hugh also talked about Jon Stewart. A few months ago, Stewart said Hugh was the worst guest he?s ever had. Hugh said on WWHL: “He wasn’t entirely wrong. I did have a tantrum backstage. About once a year, I have a really mega tantrum and sadly he witnessed one. So, he’s absolutely right?I get very annoyed when people think that I’m sort of nice or diffident or [a] polite English gentleman ? all those phrases make me gnash my teeth. I’m a nasty piece of work and I think people should know that. It’s enraging.”
