Matt Damon has a new movie, out on AppleTV this month. The Instigators stars Damon, Casey Affleck, Jack Harlow (!!), Ving Rhames, Hong Chau, Alfred Molina and more. I?m including the trailer below it reminds me a bit of The Town, which was (arguably) Ben Affleck?s best directorial effort. It?s like ?what if The Town was funny and the thieves had a therapist??
Last night was the big premiere, and Matt brought his whole family out. His mom was there, his wife Luciana was there, and he posed with their four daughters. Matt Damon has been a girl-dad this whole time and I was like ?wait, his daughters are that old already??? From People, their daughters and their ages: Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13, plus 24-year-old Alexia, who is Luciana?s daughter from a previous relationship (Matt raised Alexia and considers her one of his four kids). The girls are beautiful and they?re all sort of spectacular blends of Matt and Luciana? They got Matt?s cheekbones but with Luciana?s coloring and hair.
Also: Luciana apparently produced The Instigators and she ?convinced? Matt to step into the role. I?m trying not to remember all of the dumb sh-t Matt has said over the years, and I just hope this promotional tour goes well and he doesn?t remind everyone of all of his gaffes.

The Paris Olympics held their opening ceremony on Friday, to mostly rave reviews. Even French people were like ?WTF? at some parts of it, so you can imagine what Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning NBC?s special Olympic commentators had to say about it. I will say this, it was a great idea to have Kelly doing the opening ceremony because she was nerding out about all of the music. Kelly was such a cheerleader for Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and the French musical acts who were featured in the very long-winded and rain-soaked ceremony.
For the Americans (I think these videos are geoblocked), you can see Celine Dion?s performance on the Eiffel Tower here, and you can see Lady Gaga?s performance here (NBC is blocking the videos from being embedded too). Celine overcame significant health issues to be able to perform at the Olympics, and almost everyone who watched that was moved to tears. Her performance of E?dith Piafs L?Hymne a? l?amour was so special. The French fans and all of the tourists in Paris have been giving Celine flowers and just showering her with love all week.
One of the craziest moments and something which is still being discussed is the whole ?singing beheaded Marie Antoinette? thing. They really did that. Not only that, they had the ?Marie Antoinette? thing staged at the Conciergerie, the real prison where she was held before she was beheaded. Apparently, Republicans are trying to turn ?Marie Antoinette being sent to the guillotine? into some kind of culture war in 2024. They?re all online, calling it disrespectful to Christians? Hm. People might need to step back and think about all of this.

It?s still sort of amazing to me that Sarah Ferguson has continued to receive invitations to glitzy charity balls and galas around the world. She really is a ?royal for hire? in that sense, although I?m not saying that Fergie lacks a charitable spirit. She shows up for charities consistently and good for her. But she?s also getting those invitations because of her title, because charities want someone with some kind of vague royal connection. So it was when Fergie got invited to the Knights Of Charity Gala at Chateau de la Croix des Gardes, in the south of France. She was even tasked with ?helping out? with an auction, and she decided to throw in a special offer. From Richard Eden?s Mail column:

For I can disclose that Sarah, Duchess of York, who lives at Royal Lodge with her ex-husband Andrew, used the 30-room mansion to lure a plutocrat into donating 100,000 euros [84,000] at a charity gala on the French Riviera this week. Fergie berated the audience at the Knights of Charity Gala at the Chateau de la Croix des Gardes, in Cannes, for lacking energy on Monday evening.
She then helped top auctioneer Simon de Pury raise money by volunteering to entertain a super-rich bidder at the royal residence which used to be home to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

The duchess, 64, wore a monochrome gown complete with black opera gloves, which she said was a style tribute to Alfred Hitchcocks 1955 film To Catch a Thief, which starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. It was filmed at the chateau where the gala was held in partnership with Ulyssia.
I like the theme, you know, of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, she tells me. And I can wear my gloves. No, I dont feel hot in them, I love them. I think its rather nice to keep up with this. I just like wearing gloves.
Fergie will resume her Australia book tour in November, after cancelling her scheduled appearance at a literary festival in Perth the previous month because she didnt want to clash with the King and Queen Camillas visit Down Under.

While there?s definitely a sleazy element to this, I don?t know, it was for charity?? That?s the whole reason she was there, to be loud and to convince people to donate more. ?You dont know where youre going to end up, but itll always be something different.? Fergie is so wild. But yeah, she should probably stop offering up private dinners at Royal Lodge in exchange for cash, even if that cash is going to charity. Because we know that she probably still offers access to the Windsors for cash privately too. That being said, King Charles does the exact same thing only much worse.

Anyway, Vance?s comments have been making the rounds again because Trump picked Vance as his running mate. Trump?s team barely vetted Vance, and Vance has gone down poorly in MAGA world and beyond. Those particular comments about ?childless cat ladies? have become a real pop culture moment this week, so much so that Jennifer Aniston a childfree dog mom decided to chime in:
Jennifer Aniston is hitting back at comments about politicians who are childless cat ladies made by Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, which have recently gone viral.
The Morning Show star, 55, on Wednesday took to her Instagram Stories and posted a screenshot of a social media post in which Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of the MeidasTouch Network, shared a 2021 Tucker Carlson Tonight interview clip with Vance.
JD Vance says women who haven?t given birth like Kamala Harris are childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives, and have no direct stake in America, Filipkowski wrote alongside the 28-second clip.
I truly cant believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States, Aniston wrote. All I can say is? Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.

This wasn?t even as hard as Aniston could have gone on Vance, given her own personal story. Aniston has been the subject of decades of womb-speculation, and Aniston has very strong opinions on men with opinions on her childfree status.

On July 2, actress Sydney Sweeny?s X account was hacked by crypto scammers who used it to promote one of those crypto meme scams. This is the second time this year that Syndey?s account was hacked. Back in January, her account was hijacked to promote a different crypto meme coin. Unfortunately, Sydney?s cell phone number was also hacked at the same time as her Twitter account. After a picture of a Verizon receipt in Sydney?s name was posted online, it was determined that she?s also a victim of SIM swapping. Essentially, SIM swapping is when hackers take control of someone?s phone number, meaning all their phone calls, text messages, etc. will move over to a new device that the hacker controls.
Sydney Sweeney?s cellphone number was hijacked the same day hackers took over her X account to promote a crypto meme coin scam, according to a new report. A copy of a Verizon Wireless receipt from July 2 was posted online and obtained by technology news site 404 Media, showing that someone made changes to the ?Euphoria? star?s account.
?Hi Sydney Sweeney, Thank you for your order,? the paper read. ?If you have any question [sic], please feel free to contact me.?
An iPhone and its box were next to the receipt in the photo.
The outlet speculated that the Emmy nominee, 26, was ?a victim of SIM swapping, where hackers take over a target?s phone number and reroute text messages and phone calls to a device that the attackers control.?
Page Six has reached out to Sweeney?s reps for comment.
A Verizon spokesperson, Richard Young, said in a statement to 404 Media that he could not ?discuss a specific customer situation? but added, ?Verizon takes customer privacy and account security very seriously. When an issue is brought to our attention, we work quickly to investigate and remediate the issue, and work to ensure it doesn?t happen again.?
The date listed on the receipt was the same day Sweeney?s X account was hacked by someone tweeting about cryptocurrency.
?Well I think it?s time $sweeney is now live 100mc incoming,? wrote the hackers on the actress?s account. ?At 10mc, 10% of the supply will be burnt.?
The post also included a link that directed users to a newly created Pump.fun meme coin that the hackers claimed was from Sweeney.
The cyberterrorists also told the ?Immaculate? star?s 1 million followers that she would be ?going live on spaces soon? to show ?what $sweeney can do.?
The hackers?s tweets didn?t stay up for long, as Sweeney reclaimed her account and deleted all traces of the crypto scams. In fact, the ?Anyone But You? star?s X page shows that her last message was posted in May to promote her forthcoming film, in which she?ll be portraying boxer Christy Martin.
Sweeney is part of a long list of stars whose social media accounts have recently been hijacked by hackers. Rappers 50 cent, Doja Cat and Rich the Kid and former wrestler Hulk Hogan were also victims of the hacks.

Ugh, I feel terrible for her. It?s such a gross invasion of privacy. I hope she doesnt have any other problems, like them hacking into her iCloud Photos or Apple wallet. I would be beyond angry if someone did this to me. It makes me worried to know that AT&T was hacked a few weeks ago and the hackers got access to ?nearly all? of their customers? records. As an AT&T cellular customer, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on that one. I know it?s probably unlikely to track down who hacked her account and swapped SIM cards, but I hope there?s a way to do it. The crypto scams have gotten out-of-control on both Elon Musk?s platform and Instagram. Over the past few years, I?ve had a few people in my life whose Instagram accounts got hacked and it was hard to get them back. For a family member, whoever hacked their account still constantly posts those spammy things. I hope something can be done about it, with legislation or other official channels.

Here are some photos of Keanu Reeves this week in New York, and some pics of Keanu performing with his band, Dogstar, at the Rock im Park festival in Germany back in June. Keanu remains the coolest, and I have to admit, his hair is really working for me these days. I love scruffy men, but I love it even more when a scruffy guy cleans up his look just enough. Like, he still has a beard but he recently trimmed it. His hair is just the right length too. Anyway, Keanu is currently promoting his first novel! He collaborated with British sci-fi author China Mieville on The Book of Elsewhere. It?s based on the ?hugely successful BRZRKR comic book series created by Reeves,? per the BBC, who interviewed Mieville and Reeves. Some highlights:
Keanu thinks about death: Im 59, so Im thinking about death all the time.? Thats a good thing, he adds. Hopefully its not crippling, but hopefully its sensitised [us] to an appreciation of the breath we have, and the relationships that we have the potential to have.
Creating the BRZRKR comic book series: I love the images. I love words and storytelling and I love the way that you can have this engagement that overlays. And so you can look at the art and then you can follow the story. The actor plays down his role in the collaborative process though, insisting: I didnt write a novel. China wrote a novel.
Whether he thinks writing about violence will lead to violence irl: I hope if they read BRZRKR, that they dont go out and start ripping peoples arms off and chopping their heads off. Because theres also a love story in it. But if you do read it, I hope maybe you can find love if you dont have it.
Creation & pain: Maybe ultimately the fantasy of building another world brings some kind of comfort in some way. Theres something ultimately about the creative gesture that comes from pain. Creating stuff is great. Just creating, sharing, and hopefully people like the stories that we tell.
He doesn?t give away all of his stuff, despite reports to the contrary: I love owning things, I love having stuff. Im certainly not going to present myself as someone who gives everything away.

Is Keanu Reeves the perfect man, yes or no? I don?t think he?s perfect, actually, but I think he?s the best person to come out of the crazy 1980s/90s Hollywood scene. He survived, he stayed grounded, humble and compassionate, and he?s continued to do work which makes him happy. I think people miss the fact that he?s genuinely very artsy because he makes so many commercial films. He has all of these amazing side-projects and such a wide variety of interests and passions. Such a cool guy. And yes, as you get older, you just think about death a lot. Incidentally, did you know that Keanu and Kamala Harris are the same age? Their birthdays are about seven weeks apart (he?s a Virgo, she?s a Libra).

It?s just been announced this morning: Angelina Jolie is going to Venice!! I mean, I hope she?s going to Venice, because Pablo Larrain?s Maria has been accepted into the Venice Film Festival?s in-competition line-up. Maria is Larrain?s latest bio-pic of a famous and complicated woman, this time Maria Callas, with Angelina starring as Callas. Maria will compete against Todd Phillips? Joker: Folie Deux, Pedro Almodovar?s The Room Next Door, Luis Ortega?s Kill the Jockey and many others. I seriously hope Angelina gears up and shows up in Venice.
Unfortunately, there might be some complications in Venice. Venice organizers have also added Jon Watts? Wolfs to their out-of-competition line-up. Wolfs is the dumb buddy-comedy starring that ratfker George Clooney and his good buddy Brad Pitt. The Hollywood Reporter previewed this potential situation last month, that Clooney would want Wolfs to premiere in Venice and the two premieres (Wolfs and Maria) would cause some issues. The festival better do everything to ensure that Angelina gets prioritized and that the two premieres are several days apart.
Meanwhile, some more film festival news for Angelina: her directorial effort, Without Blood, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Without Blood stars Salma Hayek and Demin Bichir, and Angelina directed it before the actors and writers strikes last year. So we?ll get Angelina in Toronto too! What a year.

A few months ago, I read a piece in Axios or Politico (they all blend together) about President Biden?s reelection campaign and how he was missing the youth factor, the cool factor and the celebrity factor. There were already some celebrities involved with the campaign, but they usually asked to do events with VP Kamala Harris. While VP Harris turns 60 years old in October, she definitely looks and seems younger, and she?s legitimately a cool, tapped-in kind of person. Beyonce gifted VP Harris tickets to her DC concert. VP Harris recently did an event with Quavo. Kerry Washington was very quick to throw her support behind VP Harris. And on and on. Well, you know how British artist Charli XCX just released her album Brat? We?re supposed to be having a Brat Summer. And now Charli is saying that Kamala Harris IS brat.

A few months ago, Scarlett Johansson?s lawyers threatened a lawsuit against Sam Altman and his company OpenAI for using her voice for its virtual assistant after she turned them down. Think Siri or Alexa but Scarlett?s voice when you use ChatGPT. Altman was an a-hole who apparently doesn?t know the meaning of the word no and the product came out using a voice that sounded suspiciously like Scarlett. At the time, people were like, ?Bold move, bro, going after the woman who sued Disney and won.?
OpenAI ended up taking that voice option down, but ScarJo remains pissed off about the whole thing. I don?t blame her! In an interview with the New York Times, she talked a bit of sh-t about Altman, saying he would make a good Marvel villain ?with a robotic arm.? She also spoke out a bit more about what happened with her Disney lawsuit, which was over the company violating its contract by releasing Black Widow in theaters and on streaming platforms, when it was supposed to be exclusively in theaters. Turns out, Scarlett has no ill feelings towards the company itself. She blamed it all on their leadership and Im assuming she means then-CEO Bob Chapek.
?I felt I did not want to be at the forefront of that,? Johansson said about turning down OpenAI?s original request. ?I just felt it went against my core values. I don?t like to kiss and tell. He came to me with this and I didn?t tell anybody except my husband.?
?I also felt for my children it would be strange. I try to be mindful of them,? Johansson added.
In the Times interview with Maureen Dowd, Johansson calls AI-generated deepfakes a ?dark wormhole you can never climb your way out of.?
?Once you try to take something down in one area, it pops up somewhere else,? she said. ?There are other countries that have different legislation and rules. If your ex-partner is putting out revenge, deepfake porn, your whole life can be completely ruined. I think technologies move faster than our fragile human egos can process it. And you see the effects all over, especially with young people. This technology is coming like a thousand-foot wave.?
Johansson says she initially turned down OpenAI?s offer to be a voice of the ChatGPT system but when the company went forward with the plan anyway, the actor turned her lawyers loose.
While Johansson?s feelings for Altman and OpenAI don?t seem to have softened much in the past few months, her attitude toward Disney seems to be on sturdied ground these days. The Johansson-Disney dispute, which preceded the incident with OpenAI, stemmed from Disney?s decision to release her Marvel film Black Widow in both theaters and steaming via Disney+ Premier Access during the Covid days of July 2021. Their contract had maintained that the film would be released exclusively in theaters.
During the legal battle that followed, Disney said Johansson had a ?callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,? and revealed her $20 million salary.
But Johansson insisted that the streaming plan would cost her millions of dollars in backend compensation. ?I don?t hold a grudge,? Johansson says now. ?I think it was just poor judgment and poor leadership at that time. It just felt very unprofessional to me, the entire ordeal. And honestly, I was incredibly disappointed, especially because I was holding out hope until, finally, my team was like, ?You have to act.??

I wonder how much her blaming Chapek is from personal reflection and how much of it is wanting to still work with Disney in the future. I really liked Black Widow and think that ScarJo and its cast got screwed over by it being released so long after The Avengers: Endgame came out. It put BW so out of sync with the MCU timeline. That said, Scarlett wasn?t wrong that Disney?s decision violated her contract. If the roles were reversed, Disney would have sued her.
I remember how angry directors and actors were about the decision to make movies available on streaming at the same time they were in theaters. As a customer, I was really grateful for the move because we were in the middle of a global pandemic and it was awesome to have the option to watch new movies at home. Putting movies on streaming and charging people to watch it was a great solution for studios and viewers but sh-tty for anyone whose contracts were tied to backend ticket sales and profits. We saw the lack of revenue from streaming content play such a huge role in the SAG strikes last year. Hopefully their new post-strike contracts will ensure that this wont happen to them again.
