Here are some photos of Dakota Johnson on Thursday in New York. She was leaving the Greenwich Hotel, en route to 30 Rock to appear on Late Night with Seth Meyers. I don?t have the ID on her dress here, but her bag is Gucci (she?s a Gucci ambassador). This is how you turn up post-breakup too leggy, well-rested and fabulous. Dakota?s in NYC this week to promote The Materialists, which looks like such a good rom-dramedy. As many pointed out, Dakota?s team was likely the source of People Magazine?s exclusive about Dakota?s split from Chris Martin. She?s in promotional mode she doesn?t want a million questions about Chris Martin either way, so they just got that news out there ahead of her press events. Well, Page Six had a different exclusive about the breakup and what was really behind it:
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin reportedly split after nearly eight years together ? for two reasons. The ?Fifty Shades of Grey? actress, 35, and the Coldplay frontman, 48, called it quits because of their age gap and the topic of having children, a source told the US Sun.
?Dakota has been desperate for her and Chris to work out for years, and every time they broke up she was devastated and in tears,? the insider stated. ?Even some of Dakota?s team would have to console her when they were apart and she could never move on. She really loves him and his children, and he deeply loves her, but things were just never lining up for them and it was very up and down.?
?They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She?d [also] expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life.?
The source told the outlet that Johnson and Martin had been ?back and forth on issues for years? and had discussions about everything, including children.
?They made some beautiful memories as a family and it?ll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship but they will do it,? the insider claimed.

My tip for Chris Martin is? if you?re done with having kids, maybe stop messing around with such young girlfriends? Chris started dating Dakota when she was 27-ish. Over the course of their eight-year relationship, of course they discussed having kids and what they really wanted. He was really wasting her time if he?s known all along that he didn?t want any more kids. Anyway, I?ve really started to root for Dakota, and I hope she stays booked and busy. I hope she finds some guy who adores her and treats her like a princess, because I don?t think Chris was like that at all.

Years ago, one of the actresses who came up in the 1990s said the biggest difference between Hollywood then and now was that women are finally getting credit for putting projects together and producing their own stuff. I was reminded of that as I read through Parker Posey?s interview on the Smartless podcast. I?m surprised Parker even went on this podcast, but I?ve been pleasantly surprised by all of Parker?s moves in the past year. She grabbed that amazing role on The White Lotus and now she?s doing the most with her career resurgence. It?s well-deserved Parker is an icon. In the Smartless pod, she talked about how she used to be typecast as an ?indie queen? and gaslit into believing that she couldn?t do studio films.
Parker Posey is opening up about the challenges she faced when making the jump from indie films to studio movies earlier in her career. The White Lotus star made a recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, where she was asked for her reaction to being labeled the ?indie queen? in the ?90s, thanks to her iconic roles in Party Girl, Flirt, Dazed and Confused and The Daytrippers. However, Posey admitted that it actually hindered her from getting roles in major studio projects.
?I felt like I was called a name, in a way,? she explained. ?My path was more like, ?Oh, [The Daytrippers director] Greg Mottola did a reading of his movie that he was trying to get financed,? and then I introduced him to Liev Schreiber who was in Party Girl, and then we do The Daytrippers a year later. It was such a community back then. I felt like right when I got exposed, and the whole indie movement got exposed, it also got co-opted by the studio system, and then it became this other thing. All of a sudden, I wasn?t viable to get a movie financed, and it was such a head trip because I would have to audition for Hollywood movies when I?d carried the lead in independent movies that were shot in 23 days.?
Looking back, Posey believes she was ?gaslit? into thinking she wasn?t on the same playing field as other notable Hollywood names. Posey has previously spoken about losing out on big roles to Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock, such as 1994?s Speed, which ultimately saw Bullock land the role of Annie, because she was ?too indie.?
?[I would say], ?I can promise I can memorize these lines in the script, and we?ll have a blast, trust me!?? She added. ?So I had, like, a good 20 years of that after, and then working with great auteurs and doing these [films], not getting paid a lot, but being able to work and fulfill my creativity.?

This sounds similar to Chloe Sevigny?s experience, right? Chloe leaned into the indie thing, but she also openly pursued television work to pay the bills because studios were not interested in her whatsoever. With Parker, it feels like it was worse than typecasting though they really just didn?t want to hire someone with her ?indie queen? profile, they didn?t think she was ?viable,? even though she was clearly putting together projects and enough of a name to get indie films financed. And it?s also crazy because she was legitimately proving to everyone that she was a leading lady and a fantastic actress. When I watched her in The White Lotus, I felt sort of sad that she hasn?t been giving those kinds of fantastic performances every year because people didn?t have enough imagination to hire her.

Today is the 81st anniversary of D-Day. Last year, they did huge commemoration events in Normandy and almost all of the world leaders came to pay homage to those who fought and lost their lives on the Day of Days. Ahead of the anniversary, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the White House. He participated in one of those asinine photocalls in the Oval Office with Donald Trump on Thursday. Keep in mind, throughout much of Thursday, Trump was online, bitching about Elon Musk and threatening Musk with various punishments (the cancellation of government contracts, etc). In between the Musk-beef dramatics, Trump told Chancellor Merz that D-Day was ?not a great day.?
President Donald Trump made a verbal stumble when meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House, calling D-Day ?not a great day? on live TV. The chancellor quickly corrected him.
?May I remind you that we are having June 6th tomorrow,? Merz, 69, initially said as they discussed the war in Ukraine, which began when Russia invaded the smaller country in February 2022, with no provocation. The chancellor drew similarities between Russias invasion and World War II, in which the United States played a major role in ending the war.
?This is D-Day anniversary when the Americans once ended the war in Europe,? he continued, referencing the invasion of Normandy in 1944, which helped Usher in the Allies victory months later. ?And I think this is in your hands, specifically, in ours.?
?That was not a pleasant day for you?? interrupted Trump, 78, before turning to the cameras and adding, ?This was not a great day.?
?Well, in the long run, Mr. President, this was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship,? Merz responded of D-Day.

Just know I absolutely loathe to defend Trump about anything, but I had a brief moment of understanding him through his haze of senility. He was actually sort of attempting to show sympathy, like ?oh, should I say this, so many German lives were lost on D-Day?? Chancellor Merz?s response was good though, and extremely poignant: ?this was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship.? I wish Americans could be liberated from our Nazi dictatorship.

Leah Remini has had a lot going on in her personal life the last few years. Her daughter went off to college, Leah herself enrolled at NYU for a liberal arts associate?s program, she sued the Church of Scientology for harassment and defamation, and she and her husband divorced after 21 years of marriage. That?s a lot! So it?s no surprise that she?s been pretty quiet lately. But she?s speaking up now, and the timing couldn?t be better. Just as Tom Cruise?s Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is breaking box office records, Leah is here to remind us that the stunt queen is A) still a Scientologist, and B) hugely benefiting from the ?church? doing extensive dirty work on his behalf, to keep his reputation (and ego) squeaky clean. Well played, Leah. I?d call that mission accomplished. Furthermore, Leah tells Us Weekly that she doubts Tom Cruise could function ?in the real world? without COS covering his ass.
But even after more than a decade of speaking out, the actress says the Church still holds a powerful grip on some of Hollywood?s biggest names, many of whom continue to stay silent or benefit from the institution?s vast resources. At the top of that list, she says, is Tom Cruise, who remains the Church?s most prominent ambassador ? and, according to Remini, its most protected. ?Can you imagine Tom being in a normal world? Like, without Scientology doing his dirty work for him? No,? she tells Us Weekly of the Mission: Impossible star, who maintains a close friendship with Church leader David Miscavige.
Remini claims Cruise has long relied on Scientology to protect his public image, with the organization going as far as to orchestrate his breakup with former girlfriend Nazanin Boniadi in the mid-2000s and suppress damaging media coverage. ?He?s given enormous power,? she tells Us. ?This man who has a multi-million-dollar organization using all its resources to stop a book being written about him.?
According to Remini, when her Aftermath cohost Mike Rinder, a former senior member of the Church, left in 2007, he took thousands of documents with him. Among those, she alleges, there were ?hundreds? demonstrating how Cruise?s team worked to shut down news stories ? even people planning to fly skywriting over a movie premiere. ?They used all kinds of resources because they couldn?t risk Tom?s precious eyes seeing that,? she adds.
?In recent years, both Cruise and [John] Travolta have been noticeably quieter about their beliefs, but Remini doesn?t think that signals a change of heart. ?They?re being exposed for what they truly believe in,? she says. ?And they realized, ?We better shut up, or we?re not going to have careers.? But that doesn?t mean they aren?t still in full agreement with what the Church does.?
Asked if she believes any of these celebrity members will ever walk away, Remini doesn?t sound hopeful. ?I used to hope a lot of these people would leave,? she admits. ?But I kind of feel like they need Scientology. I don?t know if they?d make it in the real world.?

Again, thank you Leah for these timely comments. I?m a bitch who holds a grudge, so whenever I see Tom Cruise pop up I can?t get past his Scientology association, let alone his status at the top of that cult. But he is savvy, and Cruise conducts himself in a way that makes it easy for people to turn a blind eye to COS. LaineyGossip had a nuanced take a couple weeks ago, noting how Cruise will show up to press junkets early and make time to speak with everyone in the line. ?That?s what makes talking about Tom Cruise complicated for some members of the media. He?s a weirdo, no doubt. But if a weirdo has shown you a kindness, it?s hard to forget.? Bingo. And there?s plenty more acts of generosity Cruise does, like mentoring up-and-comers, or his infamous Christmas coconut cake list. And hey, these thoughtful traits may genuinely be part of his personality. But it?s also a pretty slick tactic for shielding himself from Scientology heat. And like Leah said, I don?t think Cruise is ever leaving COS at this point.
Switching topics, can someone please explain to me the ?haircut? Cruise has sported the last several years? It isn?t his worst offense, but still?

David Beckham turned 50 years old a month ago in what turned out to be a pretty chaotic few weeks. Around his many birthday parties, David dramatically fell out with his oldest son Brooklyn, partly because Brooklyn did not attend any of his father?s parties. In many of the articles about David?s birthday, journalists somewhat gleefully pointed out that David still didn?t have a longed-for knighthood. David has been publicly lobbying for a knighthood for what feels like the past twenty years. David has taken it up a notch in the past two years, putting in one sycophantic appearance after another in conjunction with the Windsors. Just recently, he turned up at the Chelsea Flower Show, and he was practically simpering as soon as he saw King Charles. I thought Charles would keep him groveling for another few years, but it looks like David is finally getting it: a knighthood, at long last!
David Beckham will be awarded a knighthood next week after years of appeals from fans for the former England and Manchester United footballer to receive Britain?s highest honour.
Beckham?s knighthood will be announced in the King?s birthday honours list and will mean that the former England captain?s wife, Victoria, will be known as Lady Beckham.
Beckham, capped 115 times for the national team, has long been tipped to be knighted, but has remained an OBE ? an honour he received in 2003.
Now a friend of the King, Beckham has become a supporter of the King?s Foundation and was made a charity ambassador by Charles last year. He visited Highgrove to learn more about the charity.

As we know from years of mainstream reporting, it?s not like David really had to do all of that to get a knighthood. All he had to do was donate a few million pounds, preferably cash transferred in a suitcase, to one of Charles?s ?foundations,? and he could have gotten a knighthood like ten years ago. But David wanted to do it the old-fashioned way, by boot-licking, groveling, simpering and ass-kissing. Sir David Beckham and Lady Beckham. Man. I never thought I?d see it.
