On Tuesday, I called Sarah Jessica Parker?s Monse ensemble at the Met Gala ?Founding Father chic.? It looked like an updated version of a Hamilton costume, and many people just had simple #HotTakes of ?I guess she didn?t get the memo about the theme this year.? Those comments weren?t particularly bad or good, they were mostly just shrugs from people (like myself) who didn?t give SJP?s outfit more than a passing thought.
Well, SJP is really, really pissed about it. Following the Met Gala, she wrote an essay about her outfit for the New York Times ? you can read the piece here. The gist is that she did get the memo about the Met Gala theme, and her interpretation was to make a statement about the future of fashion with ?the technology of thought, of application, of fabrication. The technology of the hand and the machine.? I?ll admit, I did like her outfit more after she explained the thought process that went into it, although I?ll also say that if you have to explain your Met Gala ensemble in a NYT essay, you shouldn?t really be mad when people have knee-jerk negative reactions to your outfit, you know?
So when fashion blogger Ivy Marshall put SJP on her list of celebrities who didn?t ?get the memo? for the Met Gala theme, SJP had something to say. Because why not beef with a fashion blogger?! My God. SJP left this comment on Instagram:
?Always welcome thoughts but I?m a stickler for the theme and pay close attention to what it means. Every year with great consideration, research and conviction. The understanding of man and machine, how they intersect, when and why is what we considered. Perhaps you weren?t aware of the technology used in the details and embellishments of the design. Or perhaps you simple didn?t like that I wore which is completely fine but you can?t accuse me of not paying close attention and adhering to the theme. With respect and warmest regards, sj.?
[From People]
Sure. I think SJP is really and truly offended that people genuinely believed that she didn?t ?get? the theme. And she?s insisting she did get it, but that she just had a different interpretation of it. SJP went on The View yesterday as well to explain her choice too ? go here to read about it. At this point, I have to wonder: is she promoting something? She?s got a new HBO series, Divorce, but she?s months away from promoting that. I feel sad that this is the most anyone has written about her in several years, and it?s all because she decided to wear a Hamilton costume to the Met Gala, then vociferously defend said Hamilton costume.

When people talk about the importance of Michael Jackson, I get it. I get that he was a groundbreaking, amazing artist who changed the game. But if we?re talking about artists who played a major role in my life, it was all about Janet Jackson. Rhythm Nation was a seminal moment in my pre-teen years. I wanted to BE Janet Jackson. I wanted to be militant (before I even understood what militancy was). I wanted to be able to dance like that. I wanted to be that cool and beautiful. Anyway, I enjoy being able to talk about Janet Jackson, even though it?s a rare occasion. A month ago, Janet canceled her world tour, giving a cryptic excuse about ?planning her family.? Many believed that she was either pregnant or perhaps exploring surrogacy. Well, Entertainment Tonight claims that Janet really is pregnant. At the age of 49.
Just days before Mother’s Day, a source confirms to ET that Janet Jackson is pregnant with her first child. The baby news comes after the 49-year-old singer — who will turn 50 on May 16 — announced last month that she will be postponing her tour to start a family with husband Wissam Al Mana. ?We?re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,? Jackson explained in a video posted to Twitter on April 6. ?I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I?m going to have to delay the tour.?
Jackson secretly wed Al Mana, 41, in 2012, but didn’t confirm the news until early 2013. This is the singer?s third marriage.

Having a baby at 49 years old is? interesting. It reminds me a bit of Halle Berry?s so-called ?geriatric pregnancy? at the age of 46. Do you think Wissam and Janet conceived naturally, or was she helped along with fertility treatments and/or IVF? In any case, congrats to Janet and Wissam.
Janet also dropped her new music video for ?Damn Baby.? I like this, but mostly because it reminds me of her ?80s and ?90s hits.

| Madonna thinks people are sexist & ageist for not loving her Met Gala outfit | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

After the Met Gala, I read that Madonna based part of her look on the Khaleesi from Game of Thrones. Very forward-looking, right? Very ?future of fashion.? Considering the Game of Thrones hair, the exposed breasts and butt cheeks, the absolutely tragic frozen face and the unquenchable thirst, it would be easy to forget that Madonna actually didn?t even do anything with the theme. But that wasn?t the point, Madonna is now saying. Because she ?caused controversy? and got people?s attention for being ridiculous, Madonna took to Instagram (because she?s 16 years old) to ?defend? her Met Gala look. Madonna says that we?re all sexist and ageist.
We have fought and continue to fight for civil rights and gay rights around the world. When it comes to Women’s rights we are still in the dark ages. My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement. The fact that people actually believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age is proof that we still live in an age-ist and sexist society. I have never thought in a limited way and I’m not going to start. We cannot effect change unless we are willing to take risks By being fearless and By taking the road leas traveled by. Thats how we change history. If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice. I’m not afraid to pave the way for all the girls behind me?? As Nina Simone once said, the definition of freedom is being fearless. I remain Unapologetic and a Rebel ?? in this life and all the others. Join my fight for Gender. Equality!
[From Madonna?s Instagram]
As the Twitter-handler for Nina Simone?s estate might say, ?Cool story but please take Nina Simone?s name out of your mouth. For the rest of your life.? I?ve actually been thinking too much about women?s choices and how every woman has the right to choose what she does with her body, how she wants to dress, how and when she wants to expose herself. I would never tell Madonna that she should not expose her body, or that she doesn?t have the right to make whatever choice she wants to make. But that?s not exactly Madonna?s complaint. She wants to make her choices and she?s bitching at us because we don?t find her choices compelling, interesting, sexy or groundbreaking. While I agree that ageism and sexism are very real in our society, Madonna?s butt cheeks are not the hill on which I want to die.
