I will always want to give Janet Jackson the benefit of the doubt. Her musical impact is major and majorly underrated. I still believe Rhythm Nation is one of the best albums of all time. Her career was undermined and almost destroyed by very powerful people. My point is that there?s every reason to give Janet the benefit of the doubt. But we can also call bullsh-t on her, because she just said some really fked up sh-t to the Guardian. The bulk of the Guardian?s interview/profile is about her life as a divorced mom living in London and her career. She apparently has to live in London because her son?s father Wissam Al Mana is London-based, and I would assume that those were the terms of her divorce from Wissam. Janet ?crinkled her nose? when asked if she enjoys living in London. That?s backstory for what everyone?s talking about, which is that Janet is extremely misinformed on the American election. I have no idea what media she?s consuming in England, but it?s bad. Here?s the relevant portion, with everything in context:
We move on to talk about the state of the nation. Jackson brought politics directly to the pop consciousness with Rhythm Nation, which addressed racism, poverty and inequality ? all issues just as urgent today as they were 35 years ago. She is a prolific social media user, and has used her profile to support Black Lives Matter, to bring awareness to police brutality. Does she feel despondent about how slow change is in coming or is she hopeful about the future?
?Well, there?s all this child trafficking crap that?s going on and sex trafficking crap, you know what I mean, that wasn?t so prevalent then?? It?s a strange about-turn, not least because of the many allegations of child sexual abuse made against Michael. But it is also the most forceful she has been since we sat down. ?At least, we didn?t know about it back then. I don?t think we did, did we? Not really. I think it?s really now out in the open, because it?s like a billion-dollar business and all that crap.?
I wonder what internet rabbit holes she?s been going down, but, before I can ask, she?s moved on. ?On [the Rhythm Nation album], for us, it was about making a difference in a kid?s life, a teenager?s life, from them taking this path with drugs and going down the wrong street to trying to make something of themself.?
On that record she sang about ?joining voices in protest to social injustice? and ?pushing toward a world rid of colour lines?. I wonder where she stands on the forthcoming election. After all, I say, America could be on the verge of voting in its first black female president, Kamala Harris.
?Well, you know what they supposedly said?? she asks me. ?She?s not black. That?s what I heard. That she?s Indian.?
She looks at me expectantly, perhaps assuming that I have Indian heritage. ?Well, she?s both,? I offer.
?Her father?s white. That?s what I was told. I mean, I haven?t watched the news in a few days,? she coughs. ?I was told that they discovered her father was white.?
I?m floored at this point. It?s well known that Harris?s father is a Jamaican economist, a Stanford professor who split from her Indian mother when she was five. ?My mother understood very well that she was raising two black daughters,? Harris wrote in her book The Truths We Hold.
The people who are most vocal in questioning the facts of Harris?s identity tend to be hardcore QAnon-adjacent, Trump-loving conspiracy theorists. I don?t think Jackson falls into that camp, but I do wonder what the algorithms are serving her. I start again. Harris has dual heritage, I say, and, given this moment, does Jackson think America is ready for her ? if we agree she?s black? Or, OK, a woman of colour?
?I don?t know,? Jackson stage whispers. ?Honestly, I don?t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don?t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.?
She doesn?t think there will be a peaceful transition of power?
?I think there might be mayhem,? she falters. ?Either way it goes, but we?ll have to see.?
[From The Guardian]
I chuckled at the Guardian writer basically writing ?what in the QAnon bullsh-t am I hearing now??? And that?s what it is, this has all of the hallmarks of Janet falling down a particularly batsh-t QAnon rabbit hole the trafficking comments, the eagerness to spin/amplify conspiracies around a Black woman?s race, the ambivalence when suggesting that there will be a bloody insurrection again. And since people are dumb (including Janet, apparently), let?s say it again for the record: Kamala Harris is Black and Indian. She?s both. Her father is a Black man from Jamaica. Her mother was an Indian immigrant. Janet needs to stop falling down QAnon rabbit holes.
Throughout Sunday, this story got even more bonkers when a man claiming to be Janet?s manager apologized for Janet?s comments, saying in part: ?Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris? racial identity were based on misinformation. Janet respects Harris? dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused.? Then a few hours later, Janet?s actual manager (her brother Randy) said this guy does not represent Janet and that the apology is not real or authorized. So? even days/weeks after the interview went down, Janet apparently feels no need to backtrack or clarify. Very strange.

Often reclusive singer Janet Jackson is ready to face the rumors about her separation from Qatari businessman husband, Wissam Al Mana, as well as share some good news with her fans.
The 50-year-old new mom posted a short video, a ?message to her fans,? on Twitter Monday evening. Using that flattering ?holding up your arm and shooting down with the camera? technique (not judging, as I?m guilty of doing it too), Janet joked that it was actually her, clarifying ?it?s me, Jan ? just in case you don’t recognize me, ’cause I have put on quite a few since I had the baby.? I don?t know about you, but the glow of motherhood has done wonders for Ms. Jackson.

Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana are no more. We learned over the weekend that they had split just months after Janet had given birth to their son. While there still is no official announcement, everyone?s going with the story because ?Jackson family sources? are leaking all over the place. According to People Mag?s sources, Janet and Wissam split ?shortly after their son Eissa was born in January? because:
?They separated shortly after the baby was born. The cultural differences between her and Wissam became even more obvious [after Eissa arrived]. They come from very different worlds. For years, Janet tried to adapt to his culture. Since it?s not a culture she grew up with, it?s been challenging for her. She often felt she disappointed Wissam.?
[From People]
I can understand that. I can understand how you fall in love with a guy, it?s all romance and money and parties and you end up getting married and then? the pregnancy and baby changes everything. Suddenly there are all of these rules and you feel like your husband and his religion are setting you up to fail. As for the money? I said yesterday that I didn?t think money would be some big issue between them. She?s rich, he?s rich, what do they have to fight about? Well, it seems like there was a prenup? and now that she made it to the five-year mark, she gets a huge pay-day??
She?s in control ? and in the money. Janet Jackson?s split from filthy rich Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana could net her up to $200 million under terms of their prenup, multiple family sources said. She was entitled to $100 million if they stayed married for at least five years, family sources told The Post. Jackson and Al Mana announced their marriage in January 2012 but might have been secretly married as early as December 2011.
The prenup also calls for that $100 million payment to be doubled if they have a child ? which became so three months ago with the birth of their son Eissa.
?It looks like a money grab but it?s not about money,? a relative of the ?Control? singer Jackson said. ?She?s never in a relationship too long. Her longest was [musician] Rene [Elizonda] and that was for [nearly] 10 years [1991-2000]. Marriage doesn?t agree with her. She doesn?t agree with marriage.?
A long-time security guard for the Jackson family agreed, saying money isn?t the driving force here ? and that Janet didn?t like Al Mana?s conservative ways.
?She loves to be in control,? the family confidante said. ?She ceded that control [in marriage] and she was not happy about it. She wants to get back to being Janet Jackson and not Mrs. Wissam Al Mana or being the obedient Muslim wife.?
A $200 million payout would be a brutal ? but far from crushing ? bottom-line blow to Al Mana, who is worth $1 billion, according to an estimate by money-and-celeb site The Richest. The hubby?s Al Mana Group has vast holdings in cars, real estate, retail, tech and other ventures. Jackson is worth a mere $150 million, The Richest estimated.

$200 million for five years and a baby? Hm? I mean, what I have even done in the past five years that I couldn?t have done while also waiting out that $200 million pay-day??? Now, I doubt Wissam will end up cutting Janet a check for $200 million. It will be negotiated down to something more manageable, especially if Wissam agrees to some terms about how the baby will be raised. Also: yeah, I don?t think Janet is meant to be married.

Janet Jackson married Wissam Al Mana several years ago. Some people claim that she married him five years ago, but who really knows? Janet is so secretive, I?m surprised we ever learned about this, her second secret marriage. Wissam Al Mana was always a question mark for me and I always just took it on faith that he was A) crazy-rich and B) a somewhat conservative Muslim. During Janet?s pregnancy especially, she seemed to take pains to wear hijabs and stay more covered up in general and there was speculation that she converted to Islam for him. Janet and Wissam welcomed their son Eissa around New Year?s and now it seems like Wissam and Janet are pretty much over each other. Well, maybe she?s over him. Who knows how he feels?
She?s having a marriage malfunction! Just months after giving birth to her first child at age 50, Janet Jackson has split with billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana. While one source said the split is amicable and the couple will co-parent their son, others said trouble had been brewing for months.
?She thought he had become too controlling during the pregnancy and she had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts,? the source who works closely with the couple said. Other demands that the ?Rhythm Nation? singer gave in to included toning down her 2014 concert tour ? wearing clothing that covered her body, instead of the skin-revealing outfits fans had grown to love. She also declined to do music videos that featured any bumping and grinding, trademarks of her work, the source said.
?It drove her crazy and she felt she was losing her fan base.?
Jackson also resented the reclusiveness of her husband, who rarely met with her friends or family, the source said. Still, the couple hoped a baby would help. They welcomed their son, Eissa Al Mana, on January 3 after nearly five years of marriage. After much deliberation over whether to have a lavish wedding, Jackson gave in to Al Mana?s demands for a simple and private ceremony, sources said. But Jackson was doing all the compromising ? with little give from the younger Al Mana, 41.
Jackson even quietly made London her home after Al Mana insisted the family live under strict Muslim custom, which included prohibiting the new mom from being seen in public while nursing the baby.
The last straw for the thrice married ?Control? singer was her husband?s reluctance to show concern for Katherine Jackson?s elder abuse claims against her nephew Trent. Katherine recently returned to Los Angeles after a two month stay in London with Janet.
?That?s when Janet made her decision that there was no turning back,? the source said. ?She was worried about her mother ? and Wissam showed little to no concern.?
Jackson is believed to be worth $250 million while Al Mana is a billionaire Qatari businessman. The source was not aware of any prenuptial agreement and declined to say whether Jackson would seek spousal or child support.
[From Page Six]
My guess is that none of this will really be an angle for money. Janet is plenty rich on her own, and I doubt their fights were about money at all, nor do I expect some divorce war to hinge on a financial settlement. No, it sounds like they were just incompatible when it came down to it – he wanted Janet to completely change her life, her work, her home and her faith. And what did he change? Probably nothing. All that being said, there could still be a divorce fight? but it will be about the baby, and custody, and how to raise the kid. Anyway? yeah, I?m surprised. Surprised that we?re even hearing about this!

I feel like playing along today. I?m choosing to play along because we honestly don?t have anything concrete on the conspiracy front. We only have our suspicions, because Janet Jackson is an enigma wrapped in a mystery, covered in a Rhythm Nation pantsuit. Janet Jackson announced her pregnancy ? at the age of 49 ? last year. Janet quietly married Wissam Al Mana in 2012, and they were reportedly trying for a baby for a while. Janet had to shut down her tour when she became pregnant. It was a big, cryptic deal. And now Janet has given birth, just as mysteriously as everything else she does.
It?s a boy! Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana welcomed their first child, a son, on Tuesday, Jan. 3, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
?Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world,? a rep for the singer, 50, says in a statement. ?Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably.?
Jackson married Qatari businessman Al Mana in 2012, and news of their first child?s impending arrival was reported in May. Speculation first began when the singer postponed her Unbreakable World Tour so, as she said in a video posted to Twitter in early April, she and Al Mana could focus on their family.
?We?re in the second leg of the tour, and there actually has been a sudden change,? she said in the clip. ?I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family. So I?m going to have to delay the tour.?
In October, the singer shared a baby bump photo exclusively with PEOPLE, saying, ?We thank God for our blessing.?
[From People]
When Janet first suggested that ?planning our family? thing, many thought she was choosing specific language to indicate that she and Wissam were expecting via surrogacy. Then the photos of Janet?s bump came out, and she actually said she was pregnant. And people still didn?t believe it. I?m not even sure I believe it, even now with a statement about how Janet had a ?stress-free healthy delivery.? How stress-free and healthy can it be at 50 years old?? In any case, congrats to Janet, to Wissam and to baby Eissa. Apparently, the name is pronounced Eye-See-Ah, which is not how I would have pronounced it had I not looked it up. It?s a pretty name but it does seem feminine (it?s the a-ending).

Back in April of this year, Janet Jackson canceled what was supposed to be her big comeback tour. She said she did it for the health of her family, and that the cancelation was actually good news. Most people speculated that she was expecting a child with husband Wissam Al Mana. Entertainment Tonight confirmed the news in May of this year ? they weren?t adopting or pregnant-via-surrogacy, Janet Jackson was and is pregnant at the age of 49. Well, since then, Janet has had a birthday. She?s now 50 years old. And pregnant.
Janet Jackson is one glowing mom-to-be. The 50-year-old singer is officially confirming her pregnancy and showing off her growing baby bump exclusively with PEOPLE.
?We thank God for our blessing,? says the star.
After Jackson announced in April she was postponing her Unbreakable World Tour in May to focus on ?planning? a family with her husband Wissam Al Mana, sources confirmed to PEOPLE the star was expecting her first child. Over the last few months, Jackson has kept a low profile and was last spotted shopping for baby buys at London?s Back in Action furniture store.
?She is super excited about her pregnancy and is doing extremely well,? a source close to the Jackson family previously told PEOPLE. ?She actually feels very good about everything.?
[From People]
So, there you go. People Magazine has an exclusive photo of Janet and her bump too (I?m including the tweet/link below). Are there any more thoughts on Janet being pregnant at 50? I still believe that she had some help, likely by fertility treatments and such. Although who even knows? Halle Berry also got pregnant in her late 40s, and it happened naturally for her. Janet is so crazy-private, we?ll probably never know the details around all of this, and she might not even tell us when she does give birth. But I still love her anyway! Send out some good vibes for Miss Jackson if you?re nasty.

When people talk about the importance of Michael Jackson, I get it. I get that he was a groundbreaking, amazing artist who changed the game. But if we?re talking about artists who played a major role in my life, it was all about Janet Jackson. Rhythm Nation was a seminal moment in my pre-teen years. I wanted to BE Janet Jackson. I wanted to be militant (before I even understood what militancy was). I wanted to be able to dance like that. I wanted to be that cool and beautiful. Anyway, I enjoy being able to talk about Janet Jackson, even though it?s a rare occasion. A month ago, Janet canceled her world tour, giving a cryptic excuse about ?planning her family.? Many believed that she was either pregnant or perhaps exploring surrogacy. Well, Entertainment Tonight claims that Janet really is pregnant. At the age of 49.
Just days before Mother’s Day, a source confirms to ET that Janet Jackson is pregnant with her first child. The baby news comes after the 49-year-old singer — who will turn 50 on May 16 — announced last month that she will be postponing her tour to start a family with husband Wissam Al Mana. ?We?re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,? Jackson explained in a video posted to Twitter on April 6. ?I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I?m going to have to delay the tour.?
Jackson secretly wed Al Mana, 41, in 2012, but didn’t confirm the news until early 2013. This is the singer?s third marriage.
[From ET]
Having a baby at 49 years old is? interesting. It reminds me a bit of Halle Berry?s so-called ?geriatric pregnancy? at the age of 46. Do you think Wissam and Janet conceived naturally, or was she helped along with fertility treatments and/or IVF? In any case, congrats to Janet and Wissam.
Janet also dropped her new music video for ?Damn Baby.? I like this, but mostly because it reminds me of her ?80s and ?90s hits.

Janet Jackson secretly wed her billionaire boyfriend Wissam Al Mana last year and now she’s quit music and become a Muslim.
Says an insider, “She’s gone. She married a billionaire. They’ve got houses in three countries. She’s spending time in the Middle East. She’s become a Muslim.”
Some people may find this as odd, but remember, her brother created a place called Neverland where he invited little boys to come play and then to come join him in his bed and then to just come. On a Michael Jackson scale of one to weird, this is about a 3.

These are some photos of Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana at the Roberto Cavalli show in Milan on the 23rd. Janet and Wissam, her Qatari lover of several years, are frequent guests of fashion shows in Paris and Milan, so it was nice to see them out and supporting Cavalli. But an interesting thing happened: just days after their first coupled-up appearance in months comes word that Janet and Wissam were actually ?secretly married? for months! Back in December, sources claimed that they were engaged and planning a lavish wedding, but it looks like they went low-key:
Janet Jackson is a master of deception! The “Rhythm Nation” singer, 46, denied reports she recently wed Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana, 37 — because according to Jackson, they’ve been secretly married for months.
“The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private and beautiful ceremony,” the couple told Entertainment Tonight in a statement on Monday, Feb. 25. “Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy.”
Us Weekly broke the news of the pair’s engagement in December 2012. Jackson hasn’t worn her ring publicly, a source explained, because “she’s afraid it will get lost, so she keeps it locked up!”
This is the third marriage for Jackson, who split from longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri in 2009. She was previously wed to James DeBarge and Rene Elizondo. Similarly, Jackson attempted to keep those relationships hidden from the public.
A Jackson source recently revealed the multiplatinum star is eager to start a family with Al Mana, whom she began dating in the summer of 2010. “She wants kids,” the source told Us. “If she can’t have them, she will adopt.”
[From Us Weekly]
Aw. I kind of like that. I like that they were so private and that they managed to keep it a secret for months ? although that?s nothing new, Janet has always been able to keep a secret, sometimes for years. She?s super-private. So it?s interesting that she even bothered to confirm the news with such a personal statement, and I like that their wedding gifts were charitable contributions. Incidentally, am I the only one who finds Wissam to be rather hot? Hm. Anyway, congrats to Janet and Wissam!

Well, this isn?t completely unexpected. Janet Jackson has been dating billionaire Wissam Al Mana for several years now, and Us Weekly just reported that Janet and Wissam have been engaged for months! Apparently, he gave her a ginormous diamond ring which she rarely wears because it?s simply TOO BIG for normal, everyday stuff. Ah, to have those problems! I wish I had jewelry that was too extravagant to wear during my daily routines.
What has Janet Jackson?s boyfriend done for her lately? A source tells Us Weekly that Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana “gave her a huge, expensive ring” earlier this year.
“She’s afraid it will get lost, so she keeps it locked up!”
The luxury-brand mogul, 37, will spare no expense on his nuptials to Miss Jackson, set for spring in Qatar.
The affair “will cost millions,” reveals a second Jackson insider. “He is flying in all of Janet’s friends and family on private jets.” (Quick refresher: The L.A.-based singer has seven siblings and more than 20 nieces and nephews.)
Adds the source, “He wants to get a top chef to create a custom menu.”
The ceremony will undoubtedly be “a circus,” another source says.
The twice-wed Nutrisystem spokeswoman, 46 — who split from Jermaine Dupri in 2009 — is eager to make it official with her love of two years.
“She wants kids,” says the Jackson source. “If she can’t have them, she will adopt.”
[From Us Weekly]
Sounds nice. Not to stereotype, but it seems like many of these Middle Eastern billionaires are the only ones spending extravagantly these days. I mean, sure, the run-of-the-mill European and American billionaires are buying yachts and elections and such, but it takes a Qatari to really bring some HUGE wedding drama. I hope they have elephants. And white tigers. And Wolfgang Puck. And I hope Janet?s dress is made out of gold or platinum. By the way, am I the only one who thinks Wissam is kind of hot? He?s got a similar look to Eric Balfour, and I think Balfour is crazy-hot in a weird way too.
