| Duchess Kate repeats a grey Orla Kiely for charity visit: lovely or dull? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some brand new photos of the Duchess of Cambridge actually making a charity visit. It?s sort of amazing how much she?s been working the past three weeks or so. We get next to nothing for months ? like, two ?fun? outings in three months? time ? and then BAM, she actually starts scheduling stuff back-to-back. For Kate (and William), ?back-to-back? engagements mean ?one appearance for an hour? once a day. But Kate has been doing so many events, it?s like someone (Poor Jason) put the fear of God into her. Did someone put their foot down about the much-anticipated Mustique vacation next month?
Anyway, Kate traveled to a Chance UK program in London to ?meet children and mentors? from the program that aims to improve the lives of kids in danger of falling through the cracks, or kids at an increased risk for developing criminal behavior. Kate and William recently did a joint appearance at another program similar to Chance UK.
Kate finally wore a repeat ? this dress is by Orla Kiely and we saw it on her for the first time in 2012, during an appearance with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. I kind of thought it was too fussy back then, but after three years, I like it a little bit more. Maybe that?s because she wore it today with a jaunty ponytail and it reads as ?cute.? She looks like a cute school teacher here, which is appropriate for the outing.
Kate?s also due to appear at the 100 Women In Hedge Funds dinner tonight. Back to back events for the second day in a row! SHOCKING! Seriously, I?m very surprised. Let?s give Kate a slow clap (before she heads off for a three-week vacation in Mustique!).

| Sandra Bullock in J. Mendel at the 'Our Brand Is Crisis' premiere: cute or fug' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

As I mentioned in a previous post, George Clooney and Amal Clooney kind of stole Sandra Bullock?s thunder at her own premiere! These are photos from the LA premiere of Our Brand Is Crisis last night. Sandra is the star, George is the producer, and all of the headlines this morning are about George and Amal rather than Sandra and her movie. Which? if we?re being honest, might have been intentional. The reviews coming out of TIFF were not good. It?s got a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As for Sandra?s look? it was fine. It?s a fresh-off-the-runway J. Mendel and it?s okay. Not crazy-awesome but very far from ?bad.? I prefer Sandra in simple, clean designs and I would still love to see her develop a relationship with Narciso Rodriguez or someone like that. Sandy walked the carpet solo, posed briefly with her friend Billy Bob Thornton

| Geena Davis: family films feature one female speaking character to three males | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of covering Geena Davis’s interview with ET Online, in which she discussed her nonprofit organization, The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Geena, 59, explained that watching family shows with her three kids, twin boys age 11 and a 13 year-old daughter, helped her notice the lack of girls in children’s media. She started the Institute on Gender in Media to do fact-based research on the statistics behind gender representation on screen. Geena has been trying to educate people behind the scenes on the importance of more equal screen time and appropriate roles for women and girls. In a new essay on The Daily Beast, she goes in depth as to how this issue still exists, how studio execs have been in denial, and how she’s attempted to make changes. You can read her full essay on The Daily Beast and here are some excerpts:
On how no one thought there was a problem at first
The thing is, I didn?t plan then to become a big fat expert. I figured I would just mention it when I had meetings around town and see what people said. But when I asked directors, producers, and studio execs, ?Have you ever noticed how few female characters there are in G and PG-rated movies?? the response from every single person was, ?No, that?s been fixed.?
The statistics are sobering
In what we call family-rated films (G, PG and PG-13), for every one female speaking character, there are about three male speaking characters. And get this: the crowd scenes in these movies? live-action and animated?are made up of only 17 percent female characters. Seventeen percent? How does that even happen? The only reason I can think of is that Hollywood writers believe women don?t like to gather.
The roles for women are usually secondary
Of course it?s not just the quantity of female characters that?s shocking?it?s the quality as well. Women hold only 20 percent of the jobs, and it?s extremely rare that they?re a leader in any field. They?re profoundly sexualized, even in G-rated movies, and very often are simply the token female, or serve the function of eye candy. They are not having half of the adventures or doing half of the interesting things that male characters do.
How she was able to make changes
But there?s good news, too: things will change, and very soon. Once I had the data, I started visiting all the studios, networks, guilds, and production companies and presented the research to them in a private, collegial way. The reaction? Their jaws were on the floor. They had no idea they were leaving out that many female characters. Sure, they knew they were making fewer movies with female leads, but the fact that they were creating fictitious worlds nearly bereft of any female presence was big news to them. You might think it?s weird for creators not to realize what?s in their creations (or what?s left out of them), but think about it: they were all raised on the same ratio of male-to-female characters, and absorbed the same unconscious bias we all have.
[From The Daily Beast, headers added]
Geena said that a survey she conducted revealed that 68% of the people who heard her presentation said that it had prompted them to change 2 or more of their projects and that 41% said they had changed 4 or more projects as a result. She wrote that it’s still too early to tell, but that “when the needle does move, after nearly 7 decades of being completely stuck, it will be historic.” At least we’re having these conversations now, as frustrating as it seems that we need to still have them and that people deny there’s even an issue.
I would like to add another form of media in women are vastly underrepresented, serve as accessories and are unnecessarily sexualized: video games. My son is a gamer and I like to watch and follow the plot as he plays. He’s been playing Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and I’m really disappointed in how that game portrays women. I can understand the lack of female characters in an historical context in which women’s roles were limited (i.e. Assassin’s Creed, can’t wait to see the new one), but in games set in present day this needs to change.

| Kim Kardashian: 'It's still SO important to me to make time for my husband' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

At this point, I would actually pay Kim Kardashian to stop with her center part. She insists on it for some reason and I really don?t understand it at all. When she wears her hair down, loose and less severe, she looks years younger. Anyway, these are photos of Kim doing an all-black ensemble in LA on Friday. Still in heels, still wearing butt-covering coats, etc. Her maternity style sucks and most of the suckage just comes from the idea that she?s really trying to be sexy rather than comfortable.
Even though Kim is about two months away from giving birth, baby thoughts are consuming her. Kim wrote a post on her subscription blog about her worries for how North is going to react to Baby Boy Kardashian-West (aka Easton West).
Kim Kardashian is nervous to introduce North West to her unborn son. The pregnant Keeping Up With the Kardashians star got candid in a new blog post on Friday, Oct. 23.
?Not going to lie, I’m a little nervous about bringing baby No. 2 into the mix,? Kardashian, 35, wrote. ?I?m nervous about how North will react, but I know she’ll be such a good big sister and I can’t wait to have this addition to our family. I know it it won’t be easy? North even has a hard time adjusting when I hold other babies!?
To prepare little Nori, 2, for her younger brother, Kardashian said she and husband Kanye West ?read books with her about getting a baby brother? and they ?always say goodnight to baby brother.?
Kourtney Kardashian?s daughter, Penelope, helps, too. ?Right now anything her cousin Penelope does, she does,? Kim admitted. ?So it’s really helpful that P has a little baby brother!!!?
With her son due in December, the Selfish book author is also making a point to spend time with her hubby West.
?I?m busy preparing for the baby but it’s still SO important to me to make time for my husband. Our schedules are already so busy and I know that the first few months when the baby comes will be harder and more hectic. I know how important it is to do things on our own. We’ll definitely go on a movie night and go out to dinner? He really is the best partner. I wouldn’t want to go through any of this without him by my side!?
[From Us Weekly]
I think she?s legitimately happy that Kanye has been so present during this pregnancy. During the first pregnancy, Kanye was in the wind. He was living in Paris for the bulk of Kim?s gestation, which was kind of awful for Kim. But this time around, he?s been sticking close to LA, they?ve been traveling together when they do go places and I think that?s contributed to Kim having an easier time this time around. As for sibling rivalries and whether North will hate her baby brother?it sounds like Kim is doing the right stuff to prepare North. I bet it really does help that North has cousins close to her age.
PS? Even though I had no interest in seeing her bra, that?s a really pretty bra. I bet it?s crazy-expensive though.
