Nicole Kidman gave an interview to Allure and I guess this is part of some kind of promotion for Bombshell, although thats a stretch because she truly never mentions any of her projects except for Big Little Lies. My theory is that she was aiming for some awards nominations for BLL rather than Bombshell which kind of checks out. In any case, Nicole chatted to Allure about rituals, face creams and water. Some highlights:
On staying relevant: ?I?ve had some amazing roles as an actress, but it?s just so nice to be at this stage and for people to still be responding to projects like Big Little Lies as passionately as, say, Moulin Rouge, or The Others, or any of the films that I made earlier in my career. It brings me to my knees. It?s been an eye-opener for me. Sometimes there is nothing there, and sometimes there are extraordinary opportunities. But if the passion is there, it keeps you going.?
On sacred rituals: ?I?ve just wrapped a limited series called The Undoing, where I played a character that?s very intense, so I?m in the process of ?shedding? her now. It?s a very strange feeling. When I?m working on a film, I don?t have time for myself. You?re working on adrenaline, and there?s an enormous amount of fatigue. Now I can do some yoga if I want to. I can go to the beach. I take hot baths with lots of oil. I love oil, and I love bathing in it.?
On saving face: ?I used to be like, ?All those creams, who cares?? But definitely as I?ve gotten older, I?ve realized those creams are necessary. I?m shooting outdoors a lot, so the most important thing is the sunscreen ? I use Neutrogena SPF 100+ [Kidman is a spokesperson for the brand]. I reapply every 90 minutes, every single day.?
On stealing beauty secrets: ?What my husband taught me is water, water, water. We drink so much water. I didn?t realize how important it was to hydrate and flush out. But because he?s a singer, that?s part of his routine. They know that they have to drink and that it helps the chords, but it also helps the skin; it helps all the organs. It keeps you healthy.?
[From Allure]
Nicole was well into her 30s before she realized she should drink a lot of water? That? doesn?t sound real. Neither does taking hot baths with lots of oil! I guess that?s not an Indian-girl thing. My skin veers towards oily anyway, I can?t imagine taking a bath with anything more than a few bath beads, not ?lots of oil.? As for Nicole reapplying her sunscreen every 90 minutes? again, that must be for people with mega-fair skin. Unless you?re sweating up a storm and in constant direct sunlight, do you need to reapply sunscreen that often?

| Jennifer Garner 'wants things done a certain way and sometimes Ben can't live up' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

US Magazine has two stories claiming that Jennifer Garner and Ben Afflecks co-parenting relationship isnt as rosy as previously reported. It seems like US divided up one print story, which didnt even make the cover, into two sourced stories on the website. It sounds like Jen is so fed up with Ben that shes finally letting the cracks show in the leaked stories to Us. Remember US is Jens go-to outlet. Its a little surprising to me, though, that shes being painted as somewhat of a perfectionist. It does sound like theyre hinting that Ben either isnt sober or that she just suspects hes drinking again. At first I thought these stories might be leaked by Bens side, but now I think Jen is just being self deprecating. Here are excerpts from those two stories on US:
Still adjusting to their new normal. Ben Affleck often feels like he?s ?disappointing? his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, when it comes to coparenting, a source reveals exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly.
?Ben has been filming in New Orleans and hadn?t seen the kids in a few weeks. They had a big week with Thanksgiving and Violet?s birthday. There was a lot of family time and things do come up,? the source explains. ?Jen wants things done a certain way and sometimes Ben isn?t able to do it in that way. Ben had to head back to New Orleans and couldn?t be part of Violet?s birthday celebration in the way that they had hoped for. Its a balancing act.?
?They are continuing to coparent and spend holidays together but there are issues with schedules and commitments,? the insider tells Us. ?It can be challenging to always be on the same page when you?re dealing with kids personalities, priorities and decision making.?
A second source adds that both Affleck and Garner are ?present? with their kids ?whenever they can be,? noting that the Gone Girl actor is back in Los Angeles ?whenever he has a break from a movie.?
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck manage to maintain an amicable coparenting relationship while raising their three kids, despite ?underlying tension.?
?Jen has very high standards and expectations,? a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. ?She wants things done a certain way, and sometimes Ben isn?t able to live up to that.?
That being said, the actress, 47, never lets their kids Violet, 14, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7, ?see? any of the former couple?s problems.
?Jen puts up with a lot and does everything she can to keep it together,? the insider tells Us. ?She wants Ben to be in the kids? lives. That means dealing with things she isn?t happy about. Jen?s major sticking point is that Ben needs to be sober ? and truthful about it. There?s no wiggle room on that as far as his relationship with his kids goes. He?s trying to stay on track and be the best he can for them. But Jen doesn?t always trust him ? and relapse is always a concern.?
The source added, ?Regardless of any disagreements, they try to put on a happy face for the kids and put their needs first. There?s definitely a lot of resentment, but they?re a family first and foremost.?
[From two stories on US Magazine]
Yes Jen bugs, but they have three kids that cant be easy, shes the one organizing everything and she wants Ben to show up and be present. I dont think that revealing this to US is the best move for her, but it has to have reached a truly annoying point for her to do that. (If thats whats happening here.) Also Jen has done so much for Ben, especially after their divorce. Remember how, around Halloween, she did a family photo op right after he was photographed falling off the wagon? People may call that codependency and it likely is, but its also looking out for Jens brand and the father of her children. I hope hes not drinking again.
On Sunday December 1, Ben, Jen and Bens mom went to church and then they went to a Christmas tree farm together. It was Violets birthday. Look at how Ben is talking to his mom and how mad he looks overall. Thats around the time frame referenced in this story.

| Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively have a binge-watch show: The Great British Bake-Off | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Before I get to this puff piece about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, it?s worth noting that they were recently in the news for a weird and bad reason. The Knot and Pinterest took the extraordinary step of banning all photos from weddings which take place on former plantations. Blake and Ryan got married on a plantation, and so a lot of sites lead with ?The Knot and Pinterest banned photos of Blake and Ryan?s wedding!? First of all, Blake did give photos of the wedding to Martha Stewart Weddings, but they didn?t show a lot of it. Second, I grew up in the South and it?s really difficult to find any historical property or site in the South which does not have some dark backstory involving slavery, the Confederate Army or the Civil War. I understand why The Knot and Pinterest did what they did and it was a good call. But I also think that some (white) people don?t even know that their wedding venue was the site of some awful atrocity. Then again, Blake did write that ?allure of antebellum? thing, so maybe she knew it was awful and that?s why she chose it.
Now, on to the fluff! Ryan Reynolds is promoting his Michael Bay-Netflix movie 6 Underground and he was asked what he and Blake binge-watch. His answer surprised me:
Ever wondered what Ryan Reynolds and wife Blake Lively like to bing together on Netflix? The answer might surprise you. Speaking with PEOPLE at the Tuesday premiere of his new Netflix movie 6 Underground, directed by Transformers? Michael Bay, Reynolds revealed they most enjoy watching the cooking reality show, The Great British Bake Off.
?You weren?t expecting that, were you?? the Deadpool star joked. ?We live in a world that?s pretty divisive right now and there?s a lot going on. And I like that show just because it?s a nice thing to watch at night. Everybody on the show is nice to each other, which I find refreshing. It?s sort of sweet. It?s not really about anything that?s going to remind you of chaos.?
[From People]
GBBO is on-brand for Blake but not on-brand for Ryan. But I can see how he would have gotten drawn into it GBBO is so soothing and restful and peaceful. CB and I talked about that on episode 31 of the Gossip with Celebitchy podcast GBBO is set in a lovely tent on peaceful English property, surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery. All of the contestants have soft British accents and they care so much about baking cakes and sometimes someone cries while they?re watching their muffins rise. I could see Ryan watching it to humor Blake and then getting really involved with who *should* win and whose cake looks half-baked.

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift at the Billboard Women in Music event last night in LA. I?ll say something nice at the beginning, Snake Fam: Taylor?s Oscar de la Renta jumpsuit is very cute. It looks like something J.Lo would wear! Something not so nice: lord, I dislike her bangs. Taylor was there because she was named Billboard?s Artist of the Decade, which probably would have been justified if not for Billboard?s continued whitewashing of music check out their ?women of the year? for the 2010s:

| Olivia Wilde does not believe that AJC journalist Kathy Scruggs 'traded sex for tips' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
As we discussed earlier this week, the Atlanta Journal Constitution wants Clint Eastwood to apologize for using his film, Richard Jewell, to smear one of their (now deceased) reporters. Kathy Scruggs was an AJC crime reporter and she was the first journalist to report that the FBI considered Richard Jewell a suspect in the Atlanta Olympic Park bombing in 1996. Jewell was a security guard and he was the first person to see the pipe bomb, and his actions in clearing the park likely saved hundreds of lives. But the FBI suspected him of making the pipe bomb, and that?s what Clint Eastwood?s film is about. Olivia Wilde plays Kathy Scruggs, and apparently (I haven?t seen the film and I don?t plan to) the film shows her banging an FBI agent to get the info about the investigation into Jewell. There is literally no evidence that happened. There is ample evidence that Kathy Scruggs was a good reporter on the crime beat, and that she would have been exactly the kind of dogged reporter whom cops or FBI agents would leak to.
I would have been fine dumping this sexist trope entirely on Clint Eastwood (the director) and Billy Ray (the screenwriter). But Olivia Wilde repeatedly claimed that she did extensive research on Kathy Scruggs too, only Kathy?s friends and family say that Olivia never contacted them, and they?re pissed at her for playing this role. So, Olivia stepped up and she?s offered an explanation for what happened. From her Twitter:
One of the things I love about directing is the ability to control the voice and message of the film. As an actor, it?s more complicated, and I want to share my perspective on my role in the film ?Richard Jewell?. I was asked to play the supporting role of Kathy Scruggs, who was, by all accounts, bold, smart, and fearlessly undeterred by the challenge of being a female reporter in the south in the 1990s. I cannot even contemplate the amount of sexism she may have faced in the way of duty.
As a child of journalists myself, I have deep respect for the essential work of all in their field, particularly today when the media is routinely attacked and discredited, and regional papers like the AJC are disappearing on a daily basis.
Contrary to a swath of recent headlines, I do not believe that Kathy ?traded sex for tips?. Nothing in my research suggested she did so, and it was never my intention to suggest she had. That would be an appalling and misogynistic dismissal of the difficult work she did.
The perspective of the fictional dramatization of the story, as I understood it, was that Kathy, and the FBI agent who leaked false information to her, were in a pre-existing romantic relationship, not a transactional exchange of sex for information. I cannot speak for the creative decisions made by the filmmakers, as I did not have a say in how the film was ultimately crafted, but it?s important to me that I share my personal take on the matter.
My previous comments about female sexuality were lost in translation, so let me be clear: I do not believe sex-positivity and professionalism are mutually exclusive. Kathy Scruggs was a modern, independent woman whose personal life should not detract from her accomplishments. She unfortunately became a piece of the massive puzzle that was responsible for the brutal and unjust vilification of an innocent man, Richard Jewell, and that tragedy is what this film attempts to shed light on. I realize my opinions about Kathy, based on my own independent research, may differ from others involved with the film, but it was important to me to [make] my own position clear.
[From Olivia Wilde?s Twitter]
Basically, Olivia is fine with throwing Clint and Billy Ray under the bus that?s what ?I cannot speak for the creative decisions made by the filmmakers, as I did not have a say in how the film was ultimately crafted? means. It means that she thought she was playing a woman who was romantically involved with an FBI agent and that?s how Scruggs got the information, but that the men in charge changed it so that everything looked transactional. Or something. Congrats, Olivia, you?re still going to get blamed for smearing a dead woman.
