Moir: Prince William is an 'often unappealing' bore who looks like a 'pained thumb'

Moir: Prince William is an 'often unappealing' bore who looks like a 'pained thumb'
Jan Moir?s recent Daily Mail column was a real treat. She hit all the sweet spots: ragging on Sarah Ferguson, pocket-watching the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and taking some really funny swipes at Prince William. The broad strokes: yes, Prince Harry and Meghan have never looked better in the wake of Prince Andrew?s arrest and unroyaling, but hey, we?ve still got to stick with poor, boring, thumb-looking Prince William because he?s the (unsightly) heir. Basically, Harry and Meghan aren?t working royals therefore William wins by default. Some highlights:

In the wake of the York fiasco: Regrettably, part of this greasy Yorkian legacy is that in the immediate aftermath of their exposure, everything and everyone looks different. In this harsh light, even the bad guys look good. And don?t Harry and Meghan know it. The couple made an 8,000-mile trip from Montecito to the Middle East, pantingly keen to show that despite royal scandal, there is no end to their kindness and compassion, their sense of global duty, their humanitarianism.

The Sussexes? $500K donation: It is an incredibly worthy cause, but is it so terribly wrong to point out that this donation is hardly a fortune in terms of global benevolence or indeed the size of their own personal fortune? Meghan?s television wardrobe for her doomed Netflix series cost almost as much; all those Cartier diamonds among the flour dust as she baked treats for her imaginary friends and padded around her fake kitchen in 700 leather sandals. Every little helps of course, let?s not be mean. Yet to put it in context, the British Government ? funded by me and you and our taxes ? pledged 310 million to the WHO for the 2024?2028 period. Just saying.

The Sussexes? royal glow: Apart from the occasional wild-eyed glance from Harry, the pair looked more like royalty than royalty; glowing, confident, even smug. It is amazing how one turn of the royal kaleidoscope can change everything. Five minutes ago the champagne-soaked Sussexes were trying to pretend they were not really at a grotesque Kardashian party in Jeff Bezos?s Hollywood mansion, sucking up to the suppurating excrescences of Tinsel Town in a ballroom with blood red walls. Now they look like Windsor saints, perhaps even the only ones likely to escape the York taint intact. But is that fair?

William?s Saudi trip: The other week I criticised Prince William for tramping around Saudi Arabia looking miserable and even scruffy; his lemon-faced presence giving legitimacy to one of the most repressive regimes on the planet. I also pointed out that he was there at the request of the British government, acting as a soft power ambassador to strengthen British ties with one of our key allies in the Middle East. That is the key factor ? his presence mattered, diplomatically and strategically.

This takedown is amazing: William might be a bit of a bore, moaning on about his mental health, often unappealing and never knowingly overselling himself, but he does not have his worries to seek.

Why would the Sussexes send messages of support?? Meghan and Harry might gloat at the travails of the House of Windsor ? certainly, there have been no public messages of support ? but they do so at their own peril. For their present is rooted in the past; their standing is based on heritage not achievement, and they are only being treated like royalty in Jordan because of Prince Harry?s ancestors. The joy of their position is that they have all the royal benefits but none of the responsibility and nothing to lose because they represent only themselves and their own brand.

King Thumb: Prince William represents a country, an embattled monarchy, a son who will be a future king, a troubled future, an uncertain road ahead. No wonder he wanders around looking like a pained thumb or the grim reaper on a day off. Still, I would rather have his miserable face under a crown than the showbiz Sussexes with their oh-so concerned looks, their faux passion and their constant cuddling of each other.

[From The Daily Mail]

I wish all Daily Mail columnists were required to undergo weekly therapy, because I feel like that would legitimately solve so many problems. This piece was a ball of chaos partly an admission that the Sussexes look great and are doing great humanitarian work, and partly a slam on William for being so boring, so thumb-like, so unappealing, so grim reaper-esque. It?s all happening! The buyer?s remorse is so real for so many British royal reporters and columnists lately. They can?t even really get behind William and his efforts to (in essence) depose his father and cut off the majority of his family. They know that they?re stuck with this charisma vacuum, this thumb-looking dumbass.

Kate Hudson wore a Grecian Valentino to the SAG/Actor Awards

Kate Hudson wore a Grecian Valentino to the SAG/Actor Awards
I was surprised to hear that Kate Hudson was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Song Sung Blue, but then I saw it and understood. Theres something so likeable about Kate and she really turned in a strong performance. Its not a Best Actress level role, but I get why she was nominated. You believe that shes a down on her luck lounge singer in Wisconsin in the 1990s. My only complaint about that film is that they muddled the technology and setting and didnt really seem to care about those details. Kate was also nominated last night at the Actor Awards (nee SAG Awards) and her category went to Jessie Buckley. Jessie is a shoe-in for the Oscar.

Kate wore a lovely cutout Valentino that would have been better in a bolder color. I dislike the bandeau top and the cutout underneath, but again shes so sunny and likeable that I cant nitpick too much. Check out how this billows behind her! Kate was there with her podcast cohost, her brother Oliver Hudson.

Presenter Allison Janney was in a cream Raisa Vanessa column gown with circular embellishments and a bold wrap-like neckline. I loved this gown on camera and found it so striking. Im including a bonus pic of her posing with Sarah Paulson.

Sarah Paulson was in a vintage Yves Saint Laurent from 1979. I saw on her stylists Instagram stories that this has pockets which were added just for her. When I first saw this gown on the carpet it looked comical to me, but during the ceremony I noticed the fact that the sequins kind of drip over it. Its amazing. Look at her fawning over Connor Storrie! I love it.

The Studios Chase Sui Wonders slayed in a strapless Miss Sohee gown with leaf-like sequins. I learned during Seth Rogens acceptance speech that they do this show in single takes?! I hope he was just talking about their episode about that, The Oner, which may be the case. That episode was so stressful. I like this show but I find it hard to take.

Kathryn Hahn was in Viktor & Ralph. The older I get the more I appreciate these big structural gowns.

Heres the Studios acceptance speech!

Did Chase Infiniti have the best Louis Vuitton look at the SAG/Actor Awards?

Did Chase Infiniti have the best Louis Vuitton look at the SAG/Actor Awards?
Y?all know that I have historically mixed opinions (if not completely negative opinions) about Louis Vuitton dressing so many women for various award shows. I think there?s one notable exception though when LV makes custom pieces for their brand ambassadors. So it was with Chase Infiniti. She was made a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador last year, and LV has been giving her some really great custom pieces. I loved her look at the SAG/Actor Awards you could tell she loved it too, and she felt so special in it. Plus, I just love when a designer makes a special headpiece to match a dress. She looks like a princess!

Wunmi Mosaku has been mixing up her designers throughout the awards season, to great results. She?s been wearing bold colors, big jewels and big designs. She?s also been pregnant throughout the awards season, I enjoy seeing big designers work with her and her specific needs and changing figure. Wunmi?s Louis Vuitton was one of my favorites of the LV looks. I love her Messika jewels as well.

Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton she?s a brand ambassador too, like Chase, only LV has given her such weird looks in recent years. I?m not into this, but Emma?s vibe in recent months has been ?I?m not going to win, I?m just here to party.?

Keri Russell in Louis Vuitton. I dislike this so much. That faux train is incredibly stupid and it was a pain in the ass she kept fussing with it all night. I enjoyed seeing her win though!

Rhea Seehorn in LV. Hate it but I love her.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore Givenchy at the SAG/Actor Awards: pretty terrible?
I was surprised that Gwyneth Paltrow showed up for the SAG/Actor Awards, but she was nominated as part of the Marty Supreme cast. Somewhat hilariously, the actors (especially Timothee Chalamet) did way too much to hype Marty, to the point where they got everyone to see the film? and that was what ruined Marty Supreme?s Oscar chances. The hype was huge and the film didn?t deliver, in my opinion. Anyway, Gwyneth was front and center (where else) in this terrible Givenchy. Super-unflattering. And the turquoise earrings?? I?m aghast that Gwyneth would wear TURQUOISE.

Rose Byrne in Chanel. It?s fine, although I feel like this is a throwback to how women used to dress for the SAGs, before everyone felt like they had to wear full-length gowns. This feels more like a party dress, but it?s fine.

Kirsten Dunst wore Khaite to support her husband Jesse Plemons, who was nominated. I dislike this? It?s just? not good. The crotch bow especially.

Odessa A?zion in a 2015 Armani jumpsuit. I didn?t even catch the bottom half of this when she was on E! this is hilariously bad. She looks like a goth Muppet.

Kristen Bell in Georges Hobieka. This reminds me of those terrible Marchesa gowns women used to wear.

Demi Moore wore a dramatic Schiaparelli to the SAG/Actor Awards

Demi Moore wore a dramatic Schiaparelli to the SAG/Actor Awards
Demi Moore really brought it during her promotional tour for The Substance, but I have not been as fond of her looks for Landman. This black and white Schiaparelli gown looks costume-y and I find the tulle tail-like back with confetti on it goofy. Her hair is also a bit severe. Im sorry! I like Demi and want good things for her.

Ali Larter bugs, but Ill be damned if she doesnt look banging. She was in a cranberry Zuhair Murad that looks like something Sofia Vergara would wear. I guess thats a compliment.

Their Landman costar Paulina Chvez was so cute on screen during her interview with their costars. Shes just 23 and Im not familiar with her but I wanted to talk about her gorgeous Sebastian Gunawan gown. This dress is a classic red carpet gown with some charming modern details. It looks so unique and pretty.

Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor at the SAG/Actor Awards: are you surprised?
Just before the SAG/Actor Award for Best Lead Actor was announced, my stomach turned as I anticipated another big win for Timothee Chalamet. I loathed Marty Supreme and I genuinely hope that Chalamet does not win the Oscar for it. Well, the SAGs chose perfectly Michael B. Jordan won for Sinners, in what was one of the most shocking moments of the night. Viola Davis presented the award and she was literally screaming the whole time MBJ made it up to the stage. What was great about choosing MBJ is that he?s literally the fan-favorite AND the actors? favorite the other men in that category were thrilled for him. Chalamet was pleased, Ethan Hawke jumped up to hug Micheal, Jesse Plemons was thrilled.

I loved all of this. I loved his shock, I loved his speech, I loved how he received a spontaneous standing ovation. The people?s prince! For weeks, I?ve worried that Chalamet would end up winning the Oscar for that awful movie, but it?s looking more like the Best Actor race is far from settled. It?s also worth noting that Wagner Moura was not nominated for a SAG, but he?s considered a pretty major contender for the Oscar. Still, the SAG/Actor Awards are considered THE bellwether for the Oscars, so maybe MBJ?s campaign will work. I hope so.

Sinners also picked up Best Ensemble. I could definitely see something similar happening at the Oscars, with Paul Thomas Anderson winning Best Director for One Battle After Another, and then Sinners winning Best Picture.

Guess who's furious that the Sussexes were included at an embassy reception'

Guess who's furious that the Sussexes were included at an embassy reception'
Last Wednesday and Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in Jordan, attached to the World Health Organization. As I?ve now said repeatedly, this visit closely resembled the kinds of international trips made by celebrity UN ambassadors like Angelina Jolie (when she was UNHCR?s special envoy) or various Unicef ambassadors like David Beckham. Prince Harry and Meghan?s schedule was, in my opinion, largely dictated and organized by WHO. But something interesting happened when they were on the ground. Britain?s ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, issued a statement thanking the Sussexes for their visit and highlighting the work of the UN and WHO within Jordan. Not only that, but it appears as if the British embassy hosted some kind of reception for Harry and Meghan during their trip. Well, Harry?s bald-demon brother has been punching walls and shrieking nonstop about every single little thing about the Sussexes? Jordanian visit, and now Prince William has gotten some ?former Tory minister? to whine on his behalf.

After Harry and Meghan were apparently snubbed by the King, Queen and Crown Prince of Jordan, the British Government has also distanced itself from the couples Middle East trip, the Daily Mail can reveal today. The Foreign Office was criticised when the Sussexes revealed they had been hosted by the British Ambassador in Amman, Phillip Hall.

Former Tory minister Tim Loughton told the Daily Mail that it was ?entirely inappropriate? that they were guests of Mr Hall given the couples claim to be private citizens. The Foreign Office has declined to comment on the two-day visit to Jordan by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

But a source with knowledge of the trip has said the British Ambassador had not invited Harry and Meghan to his reception marking Iftar the meal eaten by Muslims at sunset to break their fast during Ramadan. The invitation had been to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). He had then asked the Duke and Duchess along as his guests, it is understood. The source insisted that the British Government had not been involved in arranging or facilitating their trip because they are private citizens.

The couple have said they were in Jordan at the invitation of the WHO and its boss Dr Tedros. The couple had said in their own press release this week: At sunset, the Duke and Duchess joined World Health Organisation officials and Embassy staff at the British Ambassador?s residence for Iftar as day one closed with a renewed sense of urgency and resolve.

One royal insider also said that their appearance at the British Ambassadors reception was an ?intriguing? part of the trip. The source added: ?Once again, British diplomats are involved.

While Mr Loughton told the Daily Mail: ?They are not working royals and do not represent the British Government or UK PLC. Given their capacity to say unhelpful things which border on political, giving them an official platform could be construed as them saying something that represents official UK policy. It would be legitimate for the embassy to assist on security issues and neutral briefing but not anything that platforms them on what should clearly be seen as a private visit by private individuals?.

[From The Daily Mail]

So? if the unnamed Foreign Office source is correct, the British embassy extended an invitation to WHO official Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who was basically hosting/organizing the Sussexes? visit. The embassy was clearly being kept in the loop about the Sussexes? visit, and the ambassador likely invited Dr. Tedros, expecting him to include the Sussexes. That?s a typical diplomatic maneuver, although I wouldn?t expect Prince William to understand what happened. In fact, the invitation to Dr. Tedros emphasizes that the Sussexes were there on behalf of WHO, not the British government.

As for all of this enraged incandescence? I thought William was supposed to be a big-boy global statesman? Does he not understand how any of this works? Celebrity ambassadors are often looped into embassy meetings or receptions, as well as meetings with heads of state and/or government officials. All of this is done to raise awareness and drive donations. Is William too stupid to understand philanthropy and charitable advocacy work? Dont answer that.

Teyana Taylor wore Thom Browne to the SAG/Actor Awards: stunning or too much?
Teyana Taylor is really not a sure thing at the Oscars. Back in January, I thought she would storm through the awards season, picking up gongs for supporting actress everywhere. That hasn?t happened, and she lost the SAG Award last night to Amy Madigan, whose Oscar campaign is likely surging. Still, I?m sure Teyana is fine either way. She seems to be having a ball during the awards season, and she brought her daughter as her date last night. As for Teyana?s look? she wore Thom Browne. Browne and Schiaparelli are the two designers where I?m always like? what are we doing here? They break up the monotony, but at what cost?

Mindy Kaling in Yara Shoemaker. You guys? I love Mindy, but yikes. She clearly went on a GLP-1 which is her business and I?m not judging. I am judging her face work though. The dress is also not great.

Prada had an absolutely terrible run at the SAG/Actor Awards. Claire Danes wore Prada this was purposefully ?wrinkled? and the design is just terrible.

Michelle Williams in Prada. Trendspotting at the SAGs: these apron-looking dresses. I?m not a fan, but the bejeweled appliques were nice.

Michelle Monaghan in Prada everything about this is awful. The dress is horrendous and her styling is so, so bad. She?s such a beautiful woman too, and this just? sucks.

Viola Davis wore Gucci with a jaw dropping emerald necklace to the SAG/Actor Awards
Viola Davis was in a phenomenal green Gucci at the SAG/Actor Awards that sparkled on stage when she was presenting. That jaw dropping Pasquale Bruni necklace is described as a natural diamond floral necklace with a pear-shaped emerald drop pendant. She was the perfect choice to give Michael B. Jordan his Actor. Did you see Violas NAACP speech?

I wish we were talking more about Regina Halls role in One Battle After Another. She turns in such great work and is overdue for a nomination. She was wearing Cong Tri last night. (Does anyone else sing A bitch is old today? in their head whenever you see her? Shes 55 now!)

Ive heard a lot about Dove Camerons Prime thriller, 56 Days. I might give it a chance. Dove wrote a black and white Monique Lhuillier gown that stood out due to her exceptional styling. Shes like an edgy Disney Princess. She looks like Snow White to me and her hair and makeup are so pretty and timeless looking.

Sinners Jayme Lawson was in Zuhair Murad. The bodice is too busy on this gown and it looks like a superhero breastplate. I liked her Globes look so much better.

Li Jun Li from Sinners wore this sleek red metallic Aadnevik gown with side cutouts. She really stood out on stage when they were accepting best cast. Fingers crossed for a Best Picture win at the Oscars!
