Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise are steadily enjoying their very last days of summer before Suri gets started at her new school, Avenues, for first grade. In these photos, the girls headed out to the Make Meaning activity center in NYC before heading to an Upper East Side bakery. Suri is not loving the photographers (at one point, she stuck her tongue out at them), and there’s a new bodyguard in attendance as well. You may have also noticed that Katie is still wearing those everpresent fug booties that she loves so much. The Mail has taken it upon themselves to write an ode to the booties. Actually, not so much. They’re making fun of Katie for wearing them fifteen times in a row. C’mon, they’re understating it just a bit now because I know that Katie has worn those shoes far more consecutive times than that:
Double denim, Boden style stripes, shapeless frocks and boring ballet shoes have been staples of Katie’s wardrobe for the past five years as she dressed to distract from a marked height and age difference between her and 5.7? 50 year old husband Tom.
And while she showed fashionable promise days after her divorce from movie star Cruise when she stepped out in sky-high heels, it seems Katie has reverted to her old ways.
Since her sidekick Suri has been spending more time with her father, Katie has found a new best friend in the form of a tired, grubby pair of boots and the pair have been inseparable since she first donned them in early July.
In fact, Katie loves the tan suede Isabel Marant boots so much that she has worn them 15 times in the last 30 days.

Actually, the Mail is wrong about Katie first breaking in those booties in July. We have photos of her wearing them last September for crying out loud. Not that I should talk because I work at home and pretty much wear my running shoes whenever I go anyplace. Of course, I don’t hold myself out as a fashion designer like Katie does. Still, she really loves those damn shoes, and you know what? I’ve given up the fight. Katie and her booties win. Long live the fug booties! That’s what her next Holmes & Yang line should be — all styles of fug booties.
As for Suri, I hope she makes the most of her lingering days of summer. A structured school schedule will probably come as quite a surprise, but she’ll be fine after a few weeks of adjustment. Suri will probably even thrive in a disciplined, organized environment. Isn’t she just a gorgeous child though? Tom and Katie might have been a mess as a couple, but they made for a great gene pool. And yes, I still think Tom is Suri’s bio dad, and I’m glad she didn’t inherit his crazy ass smile.

Back in the Big Apple after spending time visiting her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, Katie Holmes took 6-year-old Suri Cruise out on Saturday (August 180 for what's a milestone moment in every young child's life.
Going casual in a simple white t-shirt and jeans look, the newly single ex of Tom Cruise and her Pink helmet donning daughter took to a West Side Highway pathway for a bicycle riding training session.
The too-cute twosome provided for quite the adorable site as Katie gently propped and pushed her Pink bike pedaling princess while giving a few pointers along the way.
The mother/daughter moment comes as Suri is just weeks away from kicking off her formal education at an exclusive new private school in Chelsea named Avenues.
With the learning set to get underway just after Labor Day, a recent report tells that both Katie and Tom will take part in dropping their little girl off on her first day, as an insider told Radar Online, "It's a big moment in Suri's life and Katie wants Tom to be a part of that."

When Katie Holmes decided to spring divorce papers on Tom Cruise in early July, were were all shocked at her sudden display of independence and, for lack of a better word, sentience. Quite simply, Katie appeared quite compelled to protect herself and daughter Suri from the specter of Scientology, but in the weeks that have followed, we’ve watched as Tom has proceeded to chip away at Katie’s air of parental authority as he has spoiled the hell out of his poor daughter.
Has this demonstration on Tom’s part somehow disadvantaged Katie’s own sense of self, as a parent or otherwise? The Mail has published a new report that pushes forth the theory that Katie is now seeking some public relations help via a “confidence and life coach.” Could this be shorthand for … a therapist? Because with or without the aid of psychiatric intervention, I would assume that there would be a fair amount of PTSD involved after five years of being married to a verbally abusive tyrant like Tom Cruise. Let alone the fact that Katie was forced to overcome the CO$ demands that she not be able to freely discipline her own child, right? Here’s the story:
After shocking the world by calling time on her five-year marriage to Tom Cruise in June, Katie Holmes was looking positively radiant.
But while her six-year-old daughter Suri travelled to Disneyworld Florida to spend some quality time with her dad last week, the 33-year-old actress cut a lonely figure as she walked through the streets of New York. Evidently missing her sidekick, the actress seemed to have the weight of the world on her shoulders following the stress of her recent divorce.
And despite being on top of the world just a matter of weeks ago, the brunette beauty is now said to be suffering a crisis of confidence at the reality of facing life alone as a single mother.
A source told Grazia: ‘She foresaw an incredible golden future for her and Suri, free of Tom and Scientology. But the glow and radiance that surrounded Katie post-split seem to have evaporated. Katie is keen to find her own voice so she has sought professional help and has employed a confidence and life coach who she’s been seeing once a week to help her regain who she once was.’
It is thought the star’s confidence was rocked when Suri returned from her lavish trip to Florida, where Tom didn’t hold back on treating her to a whole host of elaborate gifts.
With Katie trying to create a more normal lifestyle for the youngster, including visits to the zoo and meals from street vendors instead of fancy restaurants, the actress is said to be concerned that the couple’s daughter may be living two very different existences.
And to add to her woes, Katie is reportedly ‘terrified’ of returning to Los Angeles, where the Church of Scientology – the controversial religion to which Tom belongs – is based.
This comes after reports surfaced of unidentified figures, believed to be from the church, ‘staking out’ Katie’s New York apartment in the days immediately following her split from the 50-year-old actor.
Just two weeks ago, the former “Dawson’s Creek” actress cancelled a planned trip to LA, where she was due to attend a gala for the Dizzy Feet Foundation, an organisation she set up three years ago to support dance education for underprivileged kids in the US.
The source added to Grazia: ‘In the end Katie just couldn’t do it – she just didn’t seem to have the confidence and was too scared to set foot in LA, where she feared her every move would be watched. ‘She really never anticipated life post-Tom would be like this and we’re all hoping it turns round for her soon.’

I believe this story, and most of us would have issues overcoming the (inexplicably) powerful stance of Tom Cruise in Hollywood — particularly when one is the #1 enemy of their ex-husband who just happens to be Tom. Quite simply, Tom will use his connections to make life in Hollywood hell for Katie, and she is wise to stick around in NYC for as long as possible. She doesn’t even need Tom anymore — she’s got a new role on Broadway! So yes, Katie should get some serious, extensive therapy and stay in New York for the forseeable future.

Now we continue the tale of Tom Cruise spoiling daughter Suri to death by taking her to Disney World instead of those boring old museums that Katie Holmes has been frequenting. The tale has grown into a much darker one than Tom merely strolling through the Magical Kingdom wearing his lifts, and if you so dare, you can see photos of a shirtless Tom (happy trail and all) high-fiving fellow swimmers while frolicking with Suri at the Blizzard Beach water park. So transparent, that Tom.
Meanwhile, it looks like Katie is ready to get down to business since Suri will be beginning the school year in just a few weeks. While it was reported that Katie had enrolled Suri in a very prestigious Catholic school in NYC, that’s apparently not the case. Instead, Suri will attend “The World School,” which boasts worldwide campuses and allows its students to continue their studies around the globe:

Aimed at the children of the jetsetting elite “The World School” enables pupils to follow their parents around the globe without being tied to school vacation schedules. The six-year-old will be based at the school’s flagship New York campus, just a few blocks from the luxury apartment she shares with Katie.
A source told Life & Style magazine: “Katie has eagerly been telling Suri all about the lunchrooms, basketball courts and different activities Avenues offers. Suri’s really excited about it.” The imposing school building will have a rooftop playground, along with a main gym that includes full-size basketball and volleyball courts.
Suri had been expected to attend an exclusive Catholic school but her mother’s choice has certain advantages. The website boasts that it is a step better than “national” schools such as Britain’s Eton. With campuses planned for China, India, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australia Suri will certainly be able to study around the globe.
Along with high academic standards the school claims it will also teach pupils life skills, an advantage to children as sheltered as Suri. “Avenues will embrace practical matters so often ignored by academic institutions,” it says. “Students will become comfortable with a variety of life skills, including practical matters such as time management and technological competency.”

This seems like an odd choice for Katie since she's seemingly intent on providing Suri with a Catholic upbringing. Perhaps Katie thinks that the next Holmes & Yang line will really take off, and she'll have a big reason to travel. Who knows.
Meanwhile, the tabloids have cooled their heels on the TomKat divorce this week with the lone holdout being Star, which talks about how Katie is looking oh-so-sexy lately as revenge against Tom's controlling ways. Yes, I can imagine how losing the midget would perk one up on all sorts of levels, and now that she's enjoying her newfound freedom, Katie's even been wearing leather pants, which lends credence to the March report that she was looking frumpy on purpose to spite Tom, or maybe she was just so depressed that she couldn't muster up the strength to care about her appearance during her last months of marriage.

The tabloid also theorizes that Tom has been strategically appearing more rumpled and ragged than usual (instead of his normal “clean-shaven and impeccably dressed” self) in “a calculated attempt to reform his robotic image — and let the world know he’s human.” Good luck with that, Tom. I wouldn’t doubt that Tom’s “people” (i.e., the CO$) would want Tom to project the image of a sympathetic, downtrodden single father (with some newly hatched grey stubble) who wants nothing more than to be with his daughter during expensive, highly-publicized vacations, but the best thing that Tom could do is keep his head down at this point. But of course, he won’t do that.
As for Katie, I’m not convinced that her fashion sense has truly improved since leaving Tom. However, she’s often wearing the best accessory of all these days: A smile.

Making sure to properly caffeinate, Katie Holmes made her way to a coffeehouse in New York City earlier today (July 30).
The ?Teaching Mrs. Tingle? actress brought her beautiful daughter Suri along for the errand and the famous duo attracted plenty of attention along the way.
Perhaps it had something to do with their seriously Pink getups - Katie opted for a Pink flowered shirt and bell bottom jeans while Suri donned a Pink top and Pink skirt.
Mama Holmes has been keeping her little six-year-old busy this summer with trips to the Hamptons, Bronx Zoo, and plenty of gymnastics.

Katie Holmes covers the September issue of C Magazine, and the interview took place on June 27, which is one day before she filed for divorce from tiny tyrant Tom Cruise. She looks gorgeous on the cover, right? I’m sure the shoot took place either at the same time or in close proximity to the interview, so I’m assuming that bit of a glint in Katie’s eye is rather telling. Also quite telling is the interview itself. As Kaiser noted in regard to Katie’s recent Elle feature, there’s quite a bit of telegraphing to be had from what is revealed by what Katie says (or in this case, what she doesn’t say). She’s definitely evasive here, but I have to wonder why she’s suddenly appearing on various magazine covers with very little to promote other than her suddenly single status. Perhaps that’s the answer, or maybe Katie talks about her Holmes & Yang line here and that’s just been left out of the excerpts revealed thus far:
“Going back over the tapes, there were signs: Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand,” senior editor Kelsey McKinnon, who interviewed Holmes, tells WWD. “Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription.”
When McKinnon asked Holmes if having Suri, 6, brought her and Cruise, 50, closer together, the Ohio native became flustered. “I don’t know. I mean. . . I don’t know,” Holmes responded. “People have been having babies a long time.”
Regarding her future, Holmes told the magazine that she is “ready to take on some more challenging roles.”
“I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and like I have more to bring to the table,” she explained. “I always felt like I wanted to catch up [in my personal life] to what I was doing [in my career].”

With her little princess back by her side, Katie Holmes closed out the work week with daughter Suri Cruise in New York City on Friday (July 20).
The pair popped open their colorful umbrellas to thwart the rain with the duo's sighting coming after young Suri returned from a mini-vacation in East Hampton with her famous father, Tom Cruise.
And while her growing girl was out of town with her ex-husband, Katie was busy lining up a new gig on the Broadway stage.
The 33-year-old actress will be calling the Big Apple her home for some time to come while having signed on to star in a five character family comedy titled ?Dead Accounts?.
Miss Holmes has been cast to play the role of Lorna - a woman who's living with her parents while trying to get her life on the right track.
With Jack O'Brien directing the Music Box Theatre hosted run, the production also ?centers on one of her siblings, a prodigal son who returns home with secrets, including a load of new money and a missing wife.? With no specific date yet to be revealed, opening night will take place sometime this fall.

They certainly make for quite the adorable mother/daughter duo, as Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise showed off their color-coordinated cuteness while out in New York City on Sunday (July 15).
The newly single 33-year-old actress donned a bright Pink buttondown shirt with jeans as she held hands with her Pink dress clad princess while closing out the weekend with an afternoon outing in their Manhattan neighborhood.
Meanwhile, a recent report tells that Miss Holmes - who is fresh off of announcing her divorce from actor Tom Cruise - has decided to enroll 6-year-old Suri in Manhattan's Convent of the Sacred Heart all-girls school.
Having previously been home-schooled, Suri is slated to begin classes this September at the prestigious place of learning that costs a cool $38,000 per year.

We have 20 million more photos of Katie Holmes and Suri from the past few days. Some of the places they?re been: The Children?s Museum, Via Qadronno (for ice cream and face painting), FAO Schwarz (Suri got a new stuffed animal), and gymnastics class. Oh, and Suri also went with some friends (!!) to a pet store to look at puppies. Because that?s what?s next, I bet. Katie and Suri are going to get a pet. Perhaps a puppy, although I would suggest a kitten, if they?re listening. Two girls in the city, restarting their lives? I just see Katie and Suri with a kitten.
Anyway, as you can see, Katie and Suri are moving on and right now their movements are being documented extensively, on a daily basis. But when the heat dies down and it?s time to settle into NYC for the long haul? Well, Katie is preparing to lay down some serious roots. According to reports, Katie has enrolled Suri into a prestigious Catholic school in Manhattan ?the same Catholic school that educated Lady Gaga.
Come September, Suri Cruise will attend an all-girls school in New York City, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Katie Holmes, 33, has reportedly enrolled her daughter, 6, in Manhattan’s prestigious Convent of the Sacred Heart. The school’s notable alumnae list includes Lady Gaga, 26, Jordana Brewster, 32, Nicky Hilton, 28, Caroline Kennedy, 54, and the late Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt.
When classes begin, the previously homeschooled Suri will be required to attend Catholic mass every Thursday. Tuition at Convent of the Sacred Heart costs $38,000 a year.
Holmes and her daughter are currently living in a $12,500-a-month apartment in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. In a previously released statement, Holmes and Tom Cruise, 50, vowed that they “are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests.” The Romantics actress received primary custody of Suri, though Cruise has been granted visitation rights.

I believe that Katie and Tom worked out a child-support agreement in which Tom will be paying for everything involving Suri? which means Tom is probably going to have to foot the bill for Suri?s Catholic-school education. Xenu will not be pleased. Incidentally, I think Tom?s film ? Oblivion ? just wrapped or is about to wrap, which means Tom has a window of free time coming up. Which means he?ll probably be headed to NYC to spend some time with Suri, per their ?generous? visitation agreement. Tom?s lawyer Bert Fields is still trying to make Tom sound like father of the year for giving Katie primary custody ? Fields told People Magazine, ?Tom was always most interested in his child. His concern was for Suri. He will have a meaningful relationship with Suri. I don’t know the details of his schedule, so I can’t comment [on when Tom will see Suri]. Of course, Fields also told People Magazine, ?Somebody said the Scientologists were directing the negotiations, and that is absolute hogwash. There was no Scientologist present, I wasn’t on the phone with Scientologists. Scientologists played no part of role in the negotiations between the lawyers. [We] dealt rationally with the issues, hashed them all out and over a few days worked something out that was to the satisfaction of both sides.? Er? Bert Fields knows that at least one Scientologist was on the line, right?

Here are some new photos of Katie and Suri during their Sunday morning outing to Whole Foods in their Chelsea neighborhood. As we’ve already seen, Katie reeeally likes her Whole Foods, and it makes a lot of sense (as Kaiser has already pointed out) for her to stay visible on daily outings so that we know she’s still okay and that we should be alarmed if we don’t regularly see her (i.e., if the CO$ tries to nab her). In yesterday’s update, Kaiser also expressed her hope that Katie doesn’t give up any ground to Tom during their supposed “calm” negotiations. Now here’s some good news from Us Weekly, who says that Katie is not giving up on anything when it comes to her demand for full legal custody of Suri. Once again — go Katie:
For the past few days, legal teams for Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have been working steadily in an attempt to reach a settlement for the divorcing stars, but make no mistake: Holmes, 33, is not about to cave when it comes to their little girl.
“She is dead set on keeping custody of Suri,” a Holmes source tells Us Weekly. The Romantics actress — whose future projects include the new film Molly (which she wrote) and a Holmes and Yang runway debut at New York Fashion Week this fall — filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, June 28, and asked for sole legal custody of daughter Suri, 6.
“Katie is not going to compromise on certain issues, all regarding Suri,” the source says. During their nearly six-year marriage, Holmes became increasingly uncomfortable with the bizarre rules and restrictions of Scientology — particularly with respect with how to raise and educate her only child with Cruise. “This is about protecting her daughter,” another source explained to Us.
While Holmes has been highly visible since the news broke, stepping out with Suri near their new NYC apartment nearly every day, Cruise has been M.I.A., reportedly holed up at his L.A.-area home.

Katie’s professional life also appears to be mirroring her personal one. She’s set to begin production next week on Molly, which Katie co-wrote and is co-producing and is about life as a single mother. Ahem.
Meanwhile and as Katie has enjoyed much of her first week of freedom in the public eye, Tom has stayed largely hidden. He has reportedly taken refuge in his Los Angeles home and is (allegedly) freaking out over not being in total command of the situation:

“Tom’s whole life . . . is being torn apart,” the source says of Cruise, who was blindsided when Holmes filed for divorce and full legal custody of six-year-old daughter Suri on June 28.
“He is on the phone with his lawyers 24/7,” the source explains, confirming that the Oscar nominee “is trying to hash this out” — custody, child support and property division — without going to court.
Cruise, whose loyalty to the Church of Scientology and its teachings became a sticking point in his nearly six year marriage to Holmes, “doesn’t want his entire life laid out for everyone to dissect anymore.”

Over the weekend, there was a story in the Mirror, which claimed that Katie and Tom briefly spoke on the phone (for the first time since the divorce filing) during one of the inevitable phone shufflings as Tom wished Suri a goodnight. A source insisted that the conversation was both “brief and civil.” This is certainly a better option for Katie than CO$ marriage counseling (as revealed in a recent recent account from the Running Scared blog) would have been, right?
Finally, here’s a nice gross-out sentiment with which to end this roundup — in a new article from the Mail, a former personal manager (and one time surrogate mother of sorts) of Tom’s, Eileen Berlin, says that she’s surprised that Tom’s marriage to Katie lasted five years because she knew from the very start that it was “doomed.” This conclusion was not based upon any up-close observations since she and Tom went their separate ways in 1983, but she recalls that Tom was very moody and that, at times, his anger would “boil up and explode … in a snap of your fingers.” She also describes how Tom, who lived with her for three months, would often parade around her apartment in a G-string, “flexing his biceps and admiring himself.” She also expresses no disbelief in Tom’s unwavering adherence to the CO$: “He didn’t believe in therapy but he obviously needed help. He just couldn?t have a relationship and I think that was because you have to open yourself up. The world sees this good-looking guy, worth millions. I still just see this little boy.” And now that little boy bides his time by (presumably) throwing his lifts at ceilings during epic temper tantrums.
