There are new photos of Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus out in LA this week, which you can see on The Daily Mail and TMZ’s site. (They?re exclusive to one agency and we can?t afford them frankly.) Lindsay is wearing a sheer black v-neck sleeveless shirt with a bra underneath. Visible bras and bras as tops are actually in this season, but I don?t have the nerve to try to pull that look off, so good for her. I?m not saying it?s a great look on her, she should have taken one look in the mirror and changed her shirt. I do enjoy seeing her fashion and style choices though because she’s so deliberately casual like she doesn?t want us to think she carefully styles herself. Maybe I’m making that assumption because I plan my outfits, but it also takes one to know one.
TMZ is reporting that Lindsay and Ben are house hunting in LA and that they looked at three mansions ranging in price from 12 to 18 million. Real question: would you date Ben Affleck for that lifestyle? Given what we’ve learned about him in the past few weeks especially, I would not. Imagine the ways he would manipulate, lie to and gaslight you. It’s not worth the trade off, although I admit it would be fun for a month tops, especially in the love bombing stage. Ben has an opening he needs to fill and Lindsay is stepping in. He?s been renting a home and now he?s ready to buy. I don?t think Lindsay will be spending more than half her time there though. She has a career in New York and that makes this relationship especially appealing to Ben.
Meanwhile InTouch is reporting that friends are still urging Affleck to go to inpatient rehab. I know that our coverage of their past story on this was controversial as many of you said that inpatient rehab is not a cure all and is not for everyone. We?ve seen Ben at outpatient treatment frequently over the past few weeks, almost as if he wants us to know he?s been going. According to InTouch friends say Affleck?s addictions are ?worse than ever? and that they?re still urging him to seek 30 days of inpatient treatment or more. Another source tells InTouch that Affleck is ?trying to figure out what treatment works for him.? That means he?s trying to do it his way and we?ve seen how that works. I do hope he achieves sobriety though. He is looking more sober lately I?ll give him that.
Given how much flack Matt Damon is getting for continually changing his story on Weinstein and generally sounding clueless, how much do you want to bet that Affleck, a man who has groped three or more women that we?ve heard of and seen, is happy he’s not on the press circuit right now? I bet WB is going to keep him off Justice League promotional duties, or at least severely restrict his press opportunities, for that reason. Remember that this dude is known for trying to censor the questions at press junkets. If Affleck does promote JL, Weinstein and groping questions will be off the table. Just send Gal Gadot out there. We love her and she’s already a huge box office draw. Affleck’s record is spotty.
Oh and Affleck was spotted out at church on Sunday because of course he was. He should just take that husky puppy for walks and dote on it in front of the paps. I think that would be a better strategy. These photos of Ben and Jennifer Garner together are from Monday when they were at their kids’ school for a meeting. For movie stars, I can see the appeal of dating someone who works at Saturday Night Live. SNL people are celebrities but not crazy-famous. They?re well-connected but not the most ?important? people in the room. They?re probably pretty funny too. Ben Affleck is dating a talent booker at SNL. Scarlett Johansson is dating Colin Jost, an on-air talent and writer on SNL. And now Emma Stone has an SNL boyfriend as well!
Emma Stone has a new man in her life: She?s dating ?SNL? writer and segment director Dave McCary, as exclusively revealed on ?Page Six TV.? McCary?s just the latest ?SNL? staffer to date a Hollywood star to appear on the show. Ben Affleck?s dating show producer Lindsay Shookus, and ?Weekend Update? anchor Colin Jost is seeing Scarlett Johansson after she hosted the show and later made a cameo as Ivanka Trump. Page Six exclusively revealed they were caught kissing at an ?SNL? afterparty in May after she guest-starred on the show.
Stone ? who stars as Billie Jean King in ?Battle of the Sexes? ? hosted the NBC comedy sketch show last December, but she also appeared as a surprise guest this month for its season premiere when her ?La La Land? co-star Ryan Gosling hosted. She then attended the afterparty at hotspot Tao. McCary?s worked at ?SNL? since 2014.
The 32-year-old also directed this year?s quirky indie movie, ?Brigsby Bear,? starring ?SNL? comic Kyle Mooney, who?s also a childhood pal. McCary and Stone were spotted together at the movie?s premiere in June. Stone, 28, split in 2015 from her boyfriend Andrew Garfield, with whom she starred in ?The Amazing Spider-Man? in 2012. There was speculation over the summer that they were rekindling their romance, but the purported fling seemingly fizzled.

It?s worth noting that Emma Stone lives full-time in New York, not LA. Emma has an apartment in New York, but she?s not really down with, like, New York nightlife. She?s not falling out of New York Ubers at 3 am, is what I?m saying. She probably doesn?t meet a lot of interesting single guys her age, so I sort of understand how she could have met Dave McCary and something pinged. Also: man, does he seem like her ?type,? right? She likes her men to look a little bit nerdy and a little bit intense. A hipster with ambition, that seems like her type. (She also seems to go for guys with dark hair and dark eyes.)

Cate Blanchett was honored at the InStyle Awards earlier this week. It seemed like a pretty down-market awards show for Blanchett, but then I remembered that she?s promoting Thor: Ragnarok, a film with mass-market appeal. She needs InStyle readers, not New York Times Style section readers! I don?t hate that, by the way – some would say that Cate is ?selling out? by working on a Marvel movie, but Cate has never talked sh-t about studio films or big-budget films. She?s always moved back and forth between indie films and big budget productions, and her kids are probably at an age where she wanted to do a movie that they could see.
Anyway, Cate gave a speech when she received the ?Style Icon? Award. She used that moment to give a lesson in sexual politics and Steve Bannon, saying:
True icons of style, she said, are “women who know how they look is not all of who they are, but just an extension of that. It’s about women who feel free to wear what they want, when they want and how they want to wear it. I mean, you know we all like looking sexy but it doesn’t mean we want to f–k you. No one says to Steve Bannon: ‘You look like a bag of trash, do you want want me to throw you out?’ But the comments that get said about what women wear on the red carpet? I mean, if you troll through those trolls on the Internet ? just don’t.”

I?m including the video below. While it may seem like Cate is making an incredibly obvious point, it?s absolutely worth making that point because in Peak 2017, people are still blaming victims. Victims are blamed for what they were wearing, how they were standing, why they were even in the room. There?s also the ?not that kind of girl? thing that women attack other women for: dressing ?slutty? or not being ashamed of showing off their bodies. It?s worth repeating: many women like to look sexy, and want to be thought of as sexy and beautiful. None of that is an invitation for sexual harassment or assault.

In 2015, Ashley Judd gave an interview to Variety for a cover story about women?s rights, pay equity and sexual harassment within Hollywood. In the interview, she told a story about being sexually harassed by a major Hollywood producer. She didn?t name him, but she gave a lot of details about their encounter, and every person who read that story knew who she was talking about. This month, Judd became one of the first women to go on the record as a named source accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment. Since then, the floodgates have opened, as we?ve seen. Ashley agreed to sit down with Diane Sawyer for an exclusive Good Morning America interview. Here?s a clip:
