In 2015, Ashley Judd gave an interview to Variety for a cover story about women?s rights, pay equity and sexual harassment within Hollywood. In the interview, she told a story about being sexually harassed by a major Hollywood producer. She didn?t name him, but she gave a lot of details about their encounter, and every person who read that story knew who she was talking about. This month, Judd became one of the first women to go on the record as a named source accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment. Since then, the floodgates have opened, as we?ve seen. Ashley agreed to sit down with Diane Sawyer for an exclusive Good Morning America interview. Here?s a clip:

The current issue of Variety has a cover story all about feminism, women?s rights and sexism in Hollywood ? you can read the intro Variety piece here. Yesterday, people were discussing some words said by Gwyneth Paltrow (which I?ll probably cover later), but then Variety dropped an interview they did with Ashley Judd which reads like the grossest, most f?ked up blind item ever. Ashley tells a story about an unnamed film industry big-wig who sexually harassed her and offered to get her an Oscar nomination if she would watch him take a shower. Think about that. He didn?t want to watch HER shower. He wanted to manipulate her into watching HIM shower. After which, she would probably need a shower. Variety describes the guy as ?a mogul from a rival studio? (she was working on 1997?s Kiss the Girls at Paramount at the time). Here?s the main part of her blind item:
I was sexually harassed by one of our industry?s most famous, admired-slash-reviled bosses. I was making ?Kiss the Girls? at the time, and here I was, a declared feminist?and yet I did not recognize at the time what was happening to me. It took years before I could evaluate that incident and realize that there was something incredibly wrong and illegal about it.
In my example, there was no casting involved. This was just twirling the lasso. I think it?s very important to note that I considered myself empowered. He was very stealth and expert about it. He groomed me, which is a technical term ? Oh, come meet at the hotel for something to eat. Fine, I show up. Oh, he?s actually in his room. I?m like, Are you kidding me? I just worked all night. I?m just going to order cereal. It went on in these stages. It was so disgusting. He physically lured me by saying, ?Oh, help me pick out what I?m going to wear.? There was a lot that happened between the point of entry and the bargaining. There was this whole process of bargaining??Come do this, come do this, come do this.? And I would say, ?No, no, no.? I have a feeling if this is online and people have the opportunity to post comments, a lot of the people will say, ?Why didn?t you leave the room??, which is victim-blaming. When I kept saying no to everything, there was a huge asymmetry of power and control in that room.
This will be familiar to all the women to whom this has happened. I have a feeling we are a legion. I was with a bunch of other actors, and it was critical that it was actors: The exact same thing had happened to them by the exact same mogul. Only when we were sitting around talking about it did we realize our experiences were identical. There was a mutual strengthening and fortification of our resolve.
The ultimate thing when I was weaseling out of everything else was, ?Will you watch me take a shower?? And all the other women, sitting around this table with me, said, ?Oh my god?that?s what he said to me too.? In that moment, I told him something like, ?When I win an Academy Award in one of your movies.? He said, ?No, when you get nominated.? I said, ?No, no, when I win an Academy Award.? That was a small moment of power when I was able to contradict him and hold to my reality. And then I got out of there. And by the way, I?ve never been offered a movie by that studio. Ever.

As Lainey says, we know who this is. We don?t need to name him. Even people with a passing interest in Hollywood know who this is. And it just makes me feel especially creepy about the young women who do play along, who become his go-to ladies. As Ashley says in her piece though, it?s not about the women and their actions or lack thereof. It?s about a douchebag with power systematically abusing that power in disgusting and illegal ways. UGH.

Anyway, this is sort of a convoluted story, but let?s power through it. Ashley Judd is a long-time supporter of the University of Kentucky. Over the weekend, she attended a Univ. of Kentucky game. She tweeted something about the Arkansas Razorbacks ?playing dirty.? As you can imagine, the people who live and die by their NCAA brackets took issue with her. Judd got a crazy amount of online hate for daring to care about her team and throwing some shade at another team. Judd was called names (c-word, bitch, wh-re, etc), she was threatened with sexual violence and more. So Judd ? who is currently promoting Insurgent ? spoke about the craziness aimed at her when she appeared on the Today Show. She says she?s pressing charges.

Judd said: “Everyone needs to take personal responsibility. For what they write and not allowing this misinterpretation and shaming culture to persist. And by the way I’m pressing charges?The amount of gender violence that I experience is absolutely extraordinary. And a significant part of my day today will be spent filing police reports at home about gender violence directed at me on social media.”
I sometimes think Ashley Judd is full of it, but I?m #TeamJudd on this one. This is yet another example ? in a very long line of ?examples? ? of how dangerous it is to be a woman online. I don?t know if the answer is to press charges against the online lunatics, but maybe it?s a start.

This is a complicated story that may have a simple explanation. ABC News got hold of a police report, filed by Ashley Judd, in which she accuses her older sister, Wynonna, of placing a tracking device on a vehicle that Ashley owned, which was being driven by someone else. Because Ashley can’t explain anything succinctly or clearly (seriously, have you heard her speak?) ABC News doesn’t know how to report this story other than to repeat the confusing details in the police report. When you read TMZ’s version, they make the situation pretty clear. The car was being driven by Wynonna’s teenage daughter, and that’s why someone placed a tracker on it. Wynonna wanted to know what her daughter was up to. I gather from these two stories that Ashley has custody of Wynonna’s daughter. Here’s TMZ’s version:
Wynonna Judd is being accused of attempting to secretly track her sister Ashley Judd’s every move … by placing a GPS tracking device on her car.
The incident was first reported to police back in November when Wynonna’s daughter drove Ashley’s car to a mechanic … and asked them to check for a tracking device — according to reports.
The GPS device was located … so they reported it to police — and an investigation was launched to figure out who put it there.
According to the police report … when cops contacted Ashley asking if she had any idea who placed the device on her ride — Ashley pointed the finger at Wynonna.
Detectives tried in vain to reach Wynonna … so they contacted the P.I. to whom the device was registered — but they got the cold shoulder.
Wynonna’s lawyer eventually called police — and said the whole thing was a misunderstanding … the singer was just trying to track her daughter whom she knew had been driving the vehicle.

ABC News has more, including the detail that the tracker may have placed on the car by Wynonna’s ex, her first husband, Arch Kelley, not Wynonna. (Although Kelley denies this, and it sounds like Wynonna admitted to TMZ that she was the one who arranged for the tracker.) Kelley has two kids with Wynonna, 17 year-old daughter, Grace, and 18 year-old son, Elijah. (Kelley is not the horrible excuse for a human being who was convicted of attempted aggravated sexual battery against a minor, that was Wynonna’s second ex-husband, her former bodyguard D. R. Roach.)
So instead of realizing that Wynonna or her ex husband was tracking their teenage daughter, Ashley called the cops. This points to a pretty intense family feud. I want to know the details behind what happened, but even if Ashley tells the press everything it still won’t make sense. We’ll have to wade through a word salad so deep that it won’t be worth the effort to get to the truth.

In January of this year, Ashley Judd and her husband, race car driver Dario Franchitti, formally separated? but didn?t file for divorce. I don?t think many people were really surprised by the announcement. I know I was just surprised by the idea that their marriage had managed to hold together for so many years. So, they were separated for most of this year, and then in October, Dario was badly injured in an accident on the racetrack. Ashley allegedly dropped everything to be by his side, and shortly after the accident, the tabloids were full of glowing stories about Dario and Ashley?s tender reconciliation. A source told Us Weekly, ?They are going to give it another try after he recovers. His accident made her realize how much she loves him.” But what if that really didn?t happen? What if Dario was injured, yes, and Ashley did run to be with him? only she was rebuffed by Dario?s new girlfriend?
After race car driver Dario Franchitti got into a traffic accident at the Grand Prix of Houston on Oct. 6 that left him serious injured, his estranged wife Ashley Judd rushed to his side.
The close call made Ashley rethink their recent separation- but Dario, who is dating another woman, immediately spurned her advances.
?She?s heartbroken,? a source tells Star. But all hope is not lost for the couple. Close pals say that while Dario is focused on his recovery and his new girlfriend, ?only time will tell what the future holds.?
Since neither has filed for divorce, there may be a few more miles left on those tires after all.

Ouch. Rough. And I actually wonder if this is closer to reality. It just seems weird and? how shall I say?… typical of Ashley Judd to think that she?s the one controlling the state of their separation and marriage. Like, oh, now she?s made up her mind that they?re going to reconcile so she has her publicist tell the tabloids that they?re back together and she?s bravely nursing him back to health? except that he has a new girlfriend and he?s already moved on. Tell me that doesn?t sound like Ashley Judd? I would love to hear more about this new girlfriend. I bet Ashley is already plotting.

It?s not uncommon for Hollywood romances to end badly, but it looks like Ashley Judd's 11-year marriage may have found new life.
According to a report, the ?Double Jeopardy? dame is getting back together with her estranged husband Dario Franchitti and things seem to be going well.
The 40-year-old race car driver was involved in a collision at the Grand Prix of Houston earlier this month, sustaining injuries to his ankle and back.
And an insider told press, "They are going to give it another try after he recovers. His accident made her realize how much she loves him."
Ashley tweeted, "Thank you for the prayers for Dario, I have only clothes on my back & the dogs but that's all that we need & we are on our way? Amazed by the incredible outpouring of care & prayers. Thanks, everyone. Keeping our heads down here & doing what's in front of us to do."

It was a scary scene at the Houston Grand Prix on Sunday (October 6) when Dario Franchitti's race car went airborne in a horrific crash.
Several spectators and the driver himself were taken to the hospital where his wife Ashley Judd rushed to his side.
As the 40-year-old driver received treatment for a spinal fracture, broken ankle, and concussion, the "Double Jeopardy" star tweeted, "Thank you for the prayers for @dariofranchitti I have only clothes on my back & the dogs but that's all that we need & we are on our way."
The couple previously announced their decision to split back in January, but it seems they have reunited in the face of tragedy as Ashley added, "Amazed by the incredible outpouring of care & prayers. Thanks, everyone. Keeping our heads down here & doing what's in front of us to do."

She decided not to run for US Senate after a brief consideration, but Ashley Judd still felt the Sting of the political process thanks to an unauthorized recording of a meeting in Mitch McConnell?s office.
On the illegally-obtained tape, Senator McConnell and his team can be heard discussing the ?Double Jeopardy? dame in an unflattering light, questioning her fitness for a government position.
A meeting leader declared, "She's clearly, this sounds extreme, but she is emotionally unbalanced. I mean it's been documented. Jesse can go in chapter and verse from her autobiography about, you know, she's suffered some suicidal tendencies. She was hospitalized for 42 days when she had a mental breakdown in the '90s."
The diatribe continued, "She is critical?of traditional Christianity. She sort of views it as sort of a vestige of patriarchy. She says Christianity gives a God like a man, presented and discussed exclusively with male imagery, which legitimizes and seals male power, the intention to dominate even if that intention is nowhere visible."
?She?s clearly sort of anti-sort-of-traditional American family. She described having children as selfish, and she thinks it's unconscionable to breed. She also is critical of, of fathers giving away their daughters in marriage ceremonies. She says it's a common vestige of male dominion over a women's reproductive status when her father gives her away at a wedding."
Regarding the illegal recording, McConnell?s rep told press, "Senator McConnell's campaign is working with the FBI and has notified the local U.S. Attorney in Louisville, per FBI request, about these recordings. Obviously a recording device of some kind was placed in Senator McConnell's campaign office without consent. By whom and how that was accomplished presumably will be the subject of a criminal investigation."

Thank God!! Ashley Judd is NOT going to run for a Senate seat in 2014. Hallelujah! As you know, I?ve been keeping my eye on Ashley?s possible candidacy since the rumors began shortly after the 2012 election. Ashley, to her credit, seemed to be making all of the appropriate motions for a potential candidacy, meeting with the DNC, stopping short of forming an exploratory committee, and she was already being vetted by the party. Republicans seemed eager for Judd to run too ? they were praying that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would have to run against a divorced Hollywood type who mainly lives in Tennessee. Personally, I didn?t want Ashley to be the Democratic Party?s standard-bearer in Kentucky because I think she has mental health issues and I think her candidacy would have been a hot mess. But no more worries, she?s not running!
Ashley Judd’s campaign for Senate is over before it began. After months of speculation about her political ambitions — during which time she met with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Washington, D.C. — the Olympus Has Fallen actress took to Twitter on Wednesday, March 27, to officially announce that she would not, in fact, seek Republican Mitch McConnell’s seat in Kentucky next year.
“Dear Friends,” she wrote in the first of a series of tweets explaining her decision. “Thank you for these months of remarkable support & encouragement, for your voices, exhortations & prayers…Regretfully, I am currently unable to consider a campaign for the Senate.”
“I have spoken to many Kentuckians over these last few months who expressed their desire for a fighter for the people & new leader,” she went on. “While that won’t be me at this time, I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure the needs of Kentucky families are met by returning this Senate seat to whom it rightfully belongs: the people & their needs, dreams, and great potential.”
The star — who ended her 10-year marriage to husband Dario Franchitti in January — suggested she had personal matters to tend to before she could devote herself completely to public concerns.
“After serious and thorough contemplation, I realize that my responsibilities & energy at this time need to be focused on my family,” she wrote.
Included in that family, of course, is sister Wynonna, who told Us Weekly recently that she would support Judd’s decision either way. “I’m going to love her and give her the love of a sister, which is what we all want. And give her the right to fail or succeed,” the singer said. “I’m going to support her and tell her if she needs shelter from the storm — oh, is she going to need shelter from the storm — I’m here.”
Wynonna even said she’d vote for her sister, even though she disagrees “with pretty much everything [Ashley] says.”
“I am for Ashley,” she told Us. “I am for Ashley because…I’ve seen enough movies to know that someday, we’re going to be 80 and 84 and I’m going to look back on our memories. And what am I going to remember the most? Whether she won or lost a campaign? Or am I going to remember that I was there in the wings applauding for her?”

See, now I?m actually excited about Ashley potentially being a power-broker behind-the-scenes. She can still raise a lot of money for the Democratic candidate, and she can do some events in Kentucky too, without getting the personal attacks she would have gotten if she was the candidate. Pundits were analyzing this last night on MSNBC, and the basic gist of the coverage is that Ashley?s withdrawal is no big deal for the Dems. Now the party gets to run someone who actually lives in Kentucky and they get to put the focus on McConnell, who isn?t even that popular in his state.
