“Dominatrix flying squirrel” is just not a good look for anyone. That’s probably why you rarely see anything in the sadomasochistic rodentia family on the red carpet these days.
Anne Hathaway in a Tom Ford gown and vegan leather gladiator boots (no, really) at the Les Miserable premiere in New York. In real life, gladiator boots make you look like you’re a stripper/Li’l Kim/one of those rap guys’ girlfriends, so try these Diane von Furstenburg boots instead:

OH DEAR LORD. These are pics from last night?s Les Miserables premiere in NYC. This post is just for ?the ladies of Les Mis? in case you?re like ?OMG where is Hugh Jackman?!? Because we need to just talk about fashion and how these ladies are presenting themselves and how it?s just so, so terrible. Let?s start with Anne Hathaway, who is pretty much guaranteed an Oscar nomination this year, and from the looks of it so far, she?s in it to win it. Is this the right way for an Oscar hopeful to present herself?!!?!?
Annie is wearing head-to-toe Tom Ford. The dress is Ford, the boot things (?) are Ford as well. At first glance, I liked the dress by itself, but as I examined it closely? no. No, I don?t care for it. The silhouette is good, but the cut is too narrow along the thighs and Anne looks like she might be having walking issues. Plus, there?s the matter of the giant slit (to show off those horrible boots) and the built-in thing on the back. I?m sorry, Tom Ford. This is a FAIL. Also: I dislike Anne?s makeup so much here. It?s too strong.
But is Anne?s look worse than Amanda Seyfried?s? The truth is, I don?t hate Amanda?s Alexander McQueen dress. It?s fine. It?s nothing special, but it?s okay. But does her makeup artist hate her? And does her hair person despise her? What has she done to piss off her style team? I think Amanda is very pretty, but the makeup and the hairstyle emphasizes the wrong stuff about her ?look?.
And here?s Samantha Barks in Stella McCartney. A rare victory for Stella, I think, mainly because she just copied a years-old Ralph Lauren design.

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar campaign for Les Miserables has begun in earnest even though it’s already been fairly evident during her recent interviews that she’s been ramping up for the inevitable weight-loss discussion. Kaiser totally it called during a discussion of Anne’s Access Hollywood interview when she said Anne was saving the big stuff for a better outlet. Now, the moment has arrived in a new Hollywood Reporter interview where Anne begins to reveal more than just cursory details of oatmeal paste. It’s almost amusing how she’s rationing her Oscar-baited goods, so to speak, isn’t it? Here we go:
Anne on securing her role: “There was resistance because I was between their ideal ages for the parts — maybe not mature enough for Fantine but past the point where I could believably play Cosette [Fantine's daughter, later embodied by Seyfried]. And I did what I do when I really want a role: I got fiery and told my agent, ‘Just get me in the room.’”
Anne on her weight loss: She immersed herself in the role, hiring a researcher who led her to books on sexual slavery and losing weight in two stages (she lost 10 pounds over three weeks before the shoot and an extra 15 pounds during production as her character degenerated). “I just had to stop eating,” she says, “all for a total of 13 days’ shooting.”
Hugh lost some weight (and gained) some weight too! Jackman also had to shed weight to portray the gaunt convict seen at the film’s beginning — he dropped 15 pounds before bingeing and adding 30 more to mirror Valjean’s burgeoning success. “I was eating anything I could,” he says. “If ever there are any outtakes, there?s a lot of me burping.”
Hugh on the tough shoot: After a skeletal crew was sent to Gourdon in France to shoot Jackman wandering the mountains, filming shifted to England and the British coast, where a massive early sequence takes place with scores of convicts dragging a ship into port while being doused with waves. “It was 12 degrees, and the water was coming straight off the ocean,” sighs Jackman. “We were there for three days.”
[From Hollywood Reporter]
Hugh doesn’t really seem to be pushing for an Oscar, does he? He’s gained and lost weight for roles before, so this is really old hat for him. I think he’d be fine with winning an award, but it’s not his thing to worry about if and when it happens. Some actors are like that, and I think I’d prefer to be of that mindset than losing self respect just for a gold-plated statuette. Then again, I usually enjoy watching actors dole out the dish in an effort to win votes from The Academy, so there’s that.
Here are a few photos of Anne in London ahead of the Les Miserables premiere. Jeans and flowers suit her much more than that dreadful premiere dress.

I was trying to decide what Anne Hathaway’s shoulderless satin Givenchy dress reminded me of more — Psylocke’s original X-Men costume, or the dress Padme wore to the lake in Episode II of Star Wars, and that’s when I suddenly realized — I’m destined to die alone.

I like Anne Hathaway. A bold pronouncement, I know. I used to not ?get? Anne, but a few years ago, I found myself starting to come around. She?s one of the most talented actresses out there, I think she?s beautiful (I know some of you don?t agree) and I think she?s a lot smarter than the average starlet/actress. That being said, Annie is still flawed, like everyone. Anne sometimes gets on my last nerve, and I think she has the tendency to be too-cute-by-half, and her default personality can at times come off as ?pretentious nerd?. Anne has a new interview with Access Hollywood, and she was asked about her crazy weight loss for Les Miserables. Instead of talking about it ? which is, after all, the point, right? ? Anne actually sounded like she was concern-trolling all of us in the cheap seats.
Anne Hathaway admitted she was on a strict regimen to get in shape to play Selina Kyle ? aka Catwoman ? in ?The Dark Knight Rises,? but she?s pledged to keep mum on how she got un-fit ? and super skinny ? to play doomed prostitute Fantine in ?Les Miserables.?
?I don?t answer that question. Not to like get super serious about it, but just there?s so many people out there that will try something unhealthy to lose weight,? Anne explained, when Access Hollywood?s Michelle Beadle brought up how much she hates the ?weight? question with regards to this film.
?I don?t want to contribute to that. So actually I don?t answer the question,? the actress added.
But Anne was absolutely open about her first post-film meal.
?I had spelt pasta with garlic oil and like a lot of beautiful fresh tomatoes and then I had a twice baked potatoes, with basil sun dried tomatoes [and] oil. It was so good,? she raved.
Anne also revealed that Russell Crowe, who plays Javert in the film, the long arm of the law, was actually a total sweetie to the actress and her post-film first meal.
?Russell Crowe ? don?t let this tough guy exterior fool you ? he?s a big marshmallow-hearted man,? she said. ?He scoured London and found me a vegan chocolate cake and brought me this huge vegan chocolate cake when I was done because he asked me, ?Are you going to have anything sweet?? I?m like, ?No, no, I don?t. We were shooting way out in the middle of nowhere. I?m like, ?I can?t be bothered to go to London to get that!? And he brought it for me? to make sure that I was going to be able to celebrate with something sweet.?
[From Access Hollywood]
On face value, I understand what she?s saying, and I agree. Why contribute to that pro-ana BS? Why talk in neurotic detail about how you shaved off those pounds? And I also think that once she starts talking about it, everyone will ask her about it and it will be a repeat of Natalie Portman?s Black Swan Oscar campaign where everyone was obsessed with her weight and Mila Kunis?s weight.
But there are several problems. One, Anne has ALREADY talked about it ? notably to Vogue (where she explained that she lived on oatmeal paste for weeks). So, it?s like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted. Two, Anne?s physical ?transformation? is a huge part of her Oscar campaign. You know, the whole reason we?re here, the whole reason Anne is talking about Les Mis, her whole Oscar strategy of talking about how difficult it was to lose the weight and chop off her hair (all for the role of a lifetime, she?ll tell the Academy) in between dropping in little personal details about her wedding and how she can?t wait to have babies.
Anyway, I think it?s far more likely that Anne doesn?t want to ?give away? such important and Oscar-worthy campaigning to an outlet like Access Hollywood. She?ll save it for Vanity Fair or The Hollywood Reporter or The Los Angeles Times. She?ll go into more details about her diet with those outlets. Trust me.

| Anne Hathaway: Women 'get pressure to define ourselves by how wild we are' | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Anne Hathaway covers the January issue of Glamour to promote Les Miserables and that Oscar that she really wants. Well, maybe she doesn’t try so hard this time around for that shiny hunk of metal wrapped in 24-carat gold plating. This is Glamour, by the way, and not some industry magazine. So here, Anne pushes clothing and her growing-out hair by looking playful in a Monrow tank and Clover Canyon brief bottoms. She then wears a dreadfully bright yellow Alexander McQueen dress in the editorial. Also, instead of talking about her starvation diet for Les Mis, Anne discusses how she prepared for The Dark Knight Rises. Actually, this interview is kind of dull when one considers that these are the portions that have been released thus far. The interview was actually conducted by author Eve Ensler (The Vagina Monologues), so it’s rather surprising that the discussion turned out so dry. Here are some excerpts:
She won’t shop until 2013: “I looked at my life when I was on my honeymoon, which was gorgeous, and I thought, I need nothing. I’m not buying myself a single thing for the rest of this year.”
She’s a competitive actress: “I like to fight for a job. You feel like you’ve emerged from the scrap, and you’re like, ‘OK, this one’s mine. Did it. Done.’”
Females get a raw deal: “We get pressure to define ourselves as women by how wild we are: How many guys did you sleep with? How drunk did you get?”
On memories: “When I think back to some of the most fun nights in my life, it was just me out dancing.”
On training for The Dark Knight Rises: “I don’t go the soy-meat route; I have a really plant-based diet. So I wind up cooking at home a lot. Kale is amazing. Spelt [a kind of wheat] pasta is amazing. I can’t do the white-flour stuff. It makes me really ill.”
[From Glamour]
There’s not too much to grab onto here, but I guess the best thing to discuss is how Anne feels like the female identity is far too tied into the number of dudes one bangs while drunk. I think she’s saying that she never caved to the pressure or something, but it’s a very confusing statement to interpret (as far as Anne’s motivation goes) without knowing the context of what she and Eve Ensler were actually discussing. Anne has always maintained a very wholesome image, and she even managed to extricate herself from con-man boyfriend Raffaello Follieri relatively unscathed. So I think she’s mostly genuine in her good-girl image, or she’s just got a really good PR team.
Cute pictures. Shame about this awful yellow McQueen dress.

| Anne Hathaway's black gown at Tokyo 'Les Mis' premiere: pretty or unflattering' | Added 12 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Amanda Seyfried, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway at the Tokyo premiere of Les Miserables today (yesterday? tomorrow?). I?ve spent the last 20 minutes looking for a designer ID on Anne?s dress, but I haven?t been able to find it yet. It looks like a Marc Jacobs design, or Marc Jacobs-inspired, so it?s either Jacobs or Louis Vuitton? or maybe Prada. I have no idea, but I’ll update if I find out. Whatever it is, I?m not a big fan. I like that Anne defaults to black dresses a lot, mostly because she looks great in black and she?s tried worse alternatives too, but I?m not crazy about the skirt and the hem on this dress. And she just wore a strappy Victoria Beckham a few weeks ago too, so the top part feels too familiar. I do know Amanda?s designer ID: she?s wearing Brood.
Hugh looks nice? but he always looks nice, doesn?t he? Lost in the buzz about whether Anne Hathaway is going to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress for this film (and whether she?ll win), I think many critics are kind of forgetting to talk about Hugh Jackman, the actual star of the film. I have a theory: since Hugh Jackman?s Broadway turns, he?s become known as a big song-and-dance man. When he delivers the goods in Les Miserables, he?s not met with praise but rather a ?Fine. We knew you could do it. Whatever.? That?s unfair to him. I would like to see Hugh get a nomination too, just because I think he would really appreciate it, and it would be nice to see him on every red carpet this awards season.

Anne Hathaway chopped off her hair for her role inLes Miserables and now she looks like her gay brother Michael or she did when she was filming the movie. Whatever. You know what I’m trying to say.At a screening of the movie last Friday, Hathaway said about her new cut, “When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother.”That comment should make sex real awkward with her husband Adam Shulman. Especially if she started shouting, “How’s it feel to be f**king my gay brother, you queer,” while they were doing it.

I keep reading stuff about Les Miserables and how none of the industry people know quite what to expect with it. Like, Lincoln and Argo are the early favorites for all of the awards nominations, but there are some concerns and questions about Les Mis and whether it will go all Chicago and end up winning the Best Picture Oscar and all of that. I think it helps that Les Mis has a good technical ?hook? ? I?m probably going to take my mom to see it (she?s really jazzed about seeing it), and I?m looking forward to it just because I?m interested in seeing how the ?singing live to camera? hook plays out within the film. I?m also looking forward to seeing it just because I like Anne Hathaway and I know she really wants an Oscar for this, and I suspect that she might get it. Annie really does want it, and she?s willing to pull out all of the stops, talking about babies and weddings and diets and weight loss and her transformation and all of that.
Anyway, the first screening of Les Miserables was held a few days ago in NYC, and many of the actors showed up to officially begin their promotional tour. The Hollywood Reporter has a lengthy discussion of what went down and what the first reactions were to the film ? overwhelmingly positive, by the way. Reports indicate that everyone was very impressed, and you just get the feeling that everyone is really proud to be involved with this film. THR even says Russell Crowe?s musical theater background comes out in the film, and he?s really, really good too. Anyway, Anne was at the screening and she discussed losing 25 pounds and cutting off all of her hair:
She took the brave step of shaving off her hair to play a diseased waif in the movie adaptation of the musical, Les Misrables. But Anne Hathaway wasn?t too shocked when she looked in the mirror after losing her shoulder length hair because she saw a familiar face ? her gay brother!
Speaking at a New York screening of the movie on Friday, Hathaway said: ?When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother.?
It?s not the first time the actress has spoken about her gay older brother Michael. Two years ago she told British GQ that she and her family left the Catholic Church because of its stance on homosexuality after he came out.
Hathaway said: ?The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out. Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother??
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Hathaway was so dedicated to playing the role of Fantine in Les Misrables that she shed 25 pounds from her already thin frame. She lost the final 15 pounds by eating just two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day.
Hathaway said: ?I had to be obsessive about it ? the idea was to look near death.?
[From Radar]
I always forget that Anne has siblings, and that her brother is gay. If I?m being cynical, I would say that Anne name-checked her gay brother to let the Hollywood establishment (gay people and gay-friendly people) know that she too is one with the gay community. Yeah? I?m a cynic! I wonder how her gay brother feels about being a pawn in his sister?s Oscar campaign?
As for the larger discussions about her hair and what a hardship it was for Anne to chop it all off? well, I?m just glad her hair has grown out of that awkward stage. I actually like it so much more now that the top part has grown out some. Now her hair is much more elegant.
