Last week, Anne Hathaway announced her second pregnancy. From the photo she posted, she looks pretty far along as she has a nice-sized bump. Her first child, Jonathan, is three years old and I had always wondered if Anne and Adam Shulman were one-and-done parents or if they would eventually try for another. Anne answered that question in the Instagram announcement, writing: ?For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.? While Anne promoted her new project this weekend the Amazon series Modern Love she spoke in greater depth about infertility struggles and how much sympathy she has for every couple or every person dealing with trying to have a baby:
On her pregnancy: I am really happy. This is something Ive been wanting for a while and Im really happy its happening.
On the ?not a straight line? thing: Its not [always a straight line]. There is a one-sided narrative to this, and of course its wonderful that we celebrate the happy moment when its ready to share. I think there is a silence around the moments before that and they are not all happy, and in fact a lot of them are quite painful. I think that pain is that these women feel like were the only ones going through it. I just knew that somewhere my announcement was going to make somebody feel worse about themselves because and it wouldn?t be their fault that that happened you just cant help it when you want something so bad and it feels like its happening to everyone else but you. And I just wanted that person to know that theyre included in my story too and that my story didnt just have happy moments too.?

?I just knew that somewhere my announcement was going to make somebody feel worse about themselves?? That?s probably true in this situation, but it?s probably true of every situation? I?m not saying this about Anne specifically nor am I trying to criticize Anne or any woman who might feel worse when someone has happy news. But? people are allowed to have good news, or to be happy about their pregnancies without it being about other people, you know? That?s what irritated me about Lena Dunham?s sh-t in the wake of Kylie Jenner?s pregnancy too this idea that women with happy reproductive news need to walk on eggshells in case they upset other women.

Can I just say? I don?t even want to look at the reviews for The Hustle because I just want to believe that the movie is really good and really funny? The promo trailers continue to crack me up. It?s basically the lady-version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson playing the con artists trying to hook rich men. Last night was the Hollywood premiere for the film and almost everyone on the carpet was a lady.
Anne Hathaway looked AMAZING in an Elie Saab jumpsuit Anne seems to really be feeling herself these days and you can tell. Her hair is a great length, her skin looks incredible and I love that she wore pants to this premiere. Stunning. Love her black manicure too.
Rebel Wilson decided on a black look too I dont have an ID on this, but it looks familiar, and like something shes worn before.
Meghan Trainor went for a black jumpsuit too, only this one is kind of unflattering? It?s not the worst, I just think she could have chosen a better look in general. Avril Lavigne didn?t get the ?wear all black? note she paired her black vinyl pants and skull t-shirt with a Pink blazer.

Anne Hathaway is promoting Serenity, that thriller mystery with Matthew McConaughey with a release date that was curiously pushed from September of last year until now. Its out this week and there are no reviews yet, so well have to see what critics and audiences think. Anne is a pro and shes out there hustling for the film. In an appearance on Ellen this week, she explained that she decided to give up drinking last October after enduring a meeting and then a school run with a raging hangover. (She wasnt driving though.) It doesnt sound like she was a big drinker, but she didnt want any more of that misery and she has pledged not to drink for the next 18 years, for her sons sake. Heres what she told Ellen and that video is above:
They filmed in Mauritius for five weeks and were partying
Matthew and Camila took us on a bar side tour of all the best rums on the island. I dont remember [it]. I just cant drink as much as them. I had to go to a meeting the next day [with the director]. Two days later we had another meeting and he [could tell I was hungover again update: she meant he could tell she was hungover the last time, thanks Torontoe!].
I quit drinking in October. For 18 years. Im going to stop drinking while my son is living in my house because I just dont totally love the way I do it. Hes getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the morning. I didnt one school run where I dropped him off, I wasnt driving but I was hungover. That was enough for me.
I quit drinking because I wanted to be a better example and mom, but also because I was sick of waking up feeling horrible every morning. Its been about two and a half years and whenever Im tempted to take a drink I eat jellybeans and try to remember what it used to be like. The fact that Anne said she couldnt keep up with Matthew and his wife, Camila, makes me think she was just a casual drinker who wasnt an alcoholic, but its also possible shes downplaying it. I dont think shes in a program though or she wouldnt say shes not going to drink for the next 18 years. Its one day at a time, right? Plus her kid is three so that means shes not going to drink until hes 21. Good for her though, it takes courage not only to quit drinking but to be honest about it.

Meryl Streep has told one story a few times, about how right around her 40th birthday, she was offered three different ?witch? roles. She talked about how she felt like it was a signal about how Hollywood treats women over 40: they?re either playing moms or witches. Well, Anne Hathaway is only 36 years old. And she?s already being offered witch roles. Which witch? The remake of The Witches, based on Roald Dahl?s famous kids? book of the same name. The original adaptation of the book was made in 1990, with a *checks Meryl?s math* nearly 40-year-old Anjelica Huston in the lead role.
Anne Hathaway has closed a deal to star as the Grand High Witch in Robert Zemeckis and Warner Bros.? ?The Witches? adaptation. Variety first reported that Hathaway was holding the offer for both that and ?Sesame Street,? and at the time, scheduling for both films were holding up dealmaking. With those issues settled, Hathaway is now set to star in the role originally portrayed by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 classic.
Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a 7-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. Warner Bros. had previously adapted the book in 1990 with Huston playing one of the title characters, but sources close to the project say Zemeckis? version will be more rooted in the original source material, while the Huston pic was a loose adaptation. Zemeckis will also pen the script as well as produce with his partner Jack Rapke through their banner ImageMovers, along with Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro.

I honestly don?t remember much about the book other than the fact that I read it a million times when I was a kid. I know I saw the movie at some point too but I guess I forgot it. I imagine that this probably will be closer to the source material (Dahl?s classic book) and I imagine it will have tons of CGI. But I?m still hung up on the fact that Anne Hathaway is only 36 and she?s already getting witch roles.
Oh lord I forgot about her Golden Globes dress.

Pretty much as soon as Anne Hathaway got out of her limo, people were already pursing their lips and calling her the worst dressed. She?s not MY worst dressed, but let?s be clear: this is not a good look. I think Anne probably wanted to do something really different than her usual Armani or Valentino looks, so she went with a designer she rarely wears: Elie Saab. And maybe Elie Saab did her dirty. I don?t know. Is it possible she actually chose this for herself and the people at Elie Saab were like ?really, girl?? All that being said, I don?t mind an animal print. But if you?re going to be bold enough to do an animal print, don?t weaksauce it with this boring AF cut.
Usually, Jessica Chastain gets about five things wrong all at once on any given red carpet. This Burberry look was an exception it?s not my favorite look of all time, but it?s totally solid. The only thing I would change is her hairstyle. She can do a slicked back style if she wants ugh but don?t make it look like you?re channeling Coneheads.
Penelope Cruz in Ralph & Russo. What a snooze, right? It probably costs a fortune to look this boring.

Here?s Part 2 of the Ocean?s Eight premiere photos. The ladies didn?t coordinate their looks, so there were some clashes on the black carpet. I kind of wonder if the ladies knew that the carpet was going to be black as well, because some women chose black outfits that ?bled? into the background. Anne Hathaway?s patterned Jean Paul Gaultier gown was like that a little bit I thought the dress was just too short, but if you look closely, you can see that the dress actually has a black border on the bottom, and it?s actually the right length. Still, I can?t say that I?m completely behind this. She looks beautiful, of course, but? I don?t know, I just would have put her in something else.
Mindy Kaling in Prabal Gurung. This is the silhouette she should do more often: structured bodice, looser skirt and some kind of strap holding everything up. This works on her really well. Is it the most fashion-forward thing ever? No. But she looks great!
Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood. She loves Westwood and Westwood gowns look amazing on her. I doubt this is even a new dress this was probably in her closet.
Awkwafina in Reem Acra. It?s simple and vaguely bridal to me, but nice. I like how ?clean? it looks.
And finally, Gigi Hadid was there, and she wore an awful dress. I suspect that she?s one of the celebrity/model cameos in the ?Met Gala? scenes. Also: Gigi is back with Zayn, in case anyone cares. How many times are they going to break up and make up?

Here are some photos of Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Anne?s husband Adam Shulman at the LA premiere of Colossal. First, let?s get the superficial stuff out of the way: I love everything about Anne?s look here. For years, Anne has been wearing her hair shorter, and I didn?t realize until just now how much I missed her long, curly/wavy hair. She has great hair! It?s so bouncy! So, her hair looks amazing. I also love her Vivienne Westwood jumpsuit. It?s a great look for a more low-key premiere. She also just looks glowing and fabulous in general – great pale skin, sincere smile, etc. Maybe she?s happy because her husband grew some scruff and now he looks a bit more manly.
As for the not-so-superficial stuff, I?ve been reading so much about this movie this week. The plot is strange, but everyone who sees the movie says it?s really good. It?s about a drunk party girl (played by Anne) who flees New York and goes back to her hometown to dry out and get her life together. She reconnects with an ex, she continues drinking and when she drinks and plays in one particular sandbox, she has a giant avatar who sets about destroying South Korea. Reportedly, the film is about toxic masculinity, alcoholism, getting your life together and a lot of other stuff. Sudeikis and Hathaway did a great joint interview with NY Magazine – you can read it here. Jason comes across as a little bit ?what about men?s rights?!? but he backs down and sort of acknowledges his dude-privilege.
To promote the film, Anne also chatted with Rich Juzwiak at Jezebel, and this piece has sort of gone viral – you can read it here. Juzwiak talks about the internet?s history of covering Anne and the cottage industry of Professional Bloggers Hating On Hathaway. Anne talks about how ever since her Oscar campaign for Les Miserables – the birth of Hathahate for many people – she is always asked about ?how does it feel to be so unliked?? There?s no real takeaway quote from this piece, but she comes across really well and? dare I say, more likeable.

Anne Hathaway spent International Women?s Day speaking to the United Nations, which is a pretty good way to honor IWD if you ask me. Anne became an UN Ambassador last June and her cause is paid parental leave, something she focused on after she had her son. Once she realized the conditions under which parents were forced back to work (i.e. unpaid leave, no paternity leave), Anne decided to fight for those who don’t have the means to take parental leave. Eliana Dockterman from Motto interviewed Anne about her new role for the UN as well as her feminism and the all-female cast of Ocean?s 8.
Hathaway on her experiences with resourcesavailableto moms in Hollywood:”I only have one experience so far, and it?s a movie that stars eight women, four of whom are mothers ? which is definitely not the norm. On Ocean?s Eight, kids were welcome on the set. [Before we started] I got an email from Sandra Bullock saying, ?Hey, listen, we?re going to make this a really welcoming place for kids. I know you?re a brand-new mom, so don?t be afraid to bring your son. We love kids here.? Change is going to come, but it?s going to take people like her with the power to make change to demand it.”
On how she became a UN ambassador:”The United Nations reached out to me, and I was very interested. But it took us a while to figure out what my issue was going to be. Then life provided the answer: I got pregnant. A week after I had my son ? I was still fired up on adrenaline ? I had an epiphany: the mommy wars are bullsh-t. They distract from the larger, institutional problem of parental leave. It was an issue that had always been abstract to me. Now it was real.?
On if Ocean?s 8 will become political or attractharassment:”In this movie there are eight women starring, so it may well attract that sort of attention.But good luck to any person who tries to take on Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett because you?re not going to win.?

I am not an Anne apologist, I just plain like her. I don?t understand why ?mommy wars? exist in the first place so I am happy to give Anne a big ol? fist bump here. One of the things I really appreciate about Anne?s message, which you can read more of here, is that it?s inclusive. She wants proper parental leave for both sexes and points out all the ways that current US policy is unfair, such as families with two fathers who aren’t allowed maternity leave. And her first target is the UN itself who does not have equal leave for men and women.
As for Ocean?s 8, I guess I never realized that Hollywood sets were so unfriendly to kids. But reading Anne?s comments, it seems I don?t know very much about Hollywood sets. As to her point about O8 attracting political attention, the comparison made in the interview is the Ghostbusters remake. I understand Anne is trying to be supportive of Cate and Sandra?s directness but I hardly think any of those GB ladies are shrinking violets and they certainly came for them. In addition to answering the questions about attracting attention, Anne made a larger point to say that when she is number three on a call sheet after two men, her character is not political but, ?when I?m No. 1 on the call sheet, it suddenly becomes a ‘woman?s story’ and it?s a statement.? It?s not that I didn?t know this, but Anne explains better than I’ve heard.

When I was a kid, I loved Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. People forget how bizarre and enchanting it was to see Michael Caine in that role, something faux-debonair, comedic and silly, considering his career up to that point was so heavy on the dramatic roles. Caine and Steve Martin originated the roles of two con men trying to woo a young heiress, and while the film is perfect as-is, it seems that everything old is new again and of course they?re going to remake it. I don?t feel the kneejerk of ?they?re destroying my childhood? with this remake though. Mostly because this remake seems increasingly cool. Rebel Wilson has been attached to it for months, and now Anne Hathaway is circling the project too. I mean? that sounds like something I would watch. And it?s called NASTY WOMEN. Please. Take my money now.
Anne Hathaway is on the verge of becoming a nasty woman. EW has confirmed that the Academy Award-winner is in talks to star alongside Rebel Wilson in Nasty Women, a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The actresses will play dueling scam artists competing to con a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune.
Director Frank Oz?s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was released in 1988 and starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as the criminal rivals. Wilson?s involvement in the upcoming version was reported back in August, before the new title was set. The Pitch Perfect star is producing the project with Roger Birnbaum (The Magnificent Seven). Jac Schaeffer, who also penned Hathaway?s upcoming film The Shower, wrote the screenplay.
This is the latest female driven team-up for Hathaway, who is joining Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and more in Ocean?s Eight.

I mean? just the idea of Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway going to head-to-head to try to out-seduce a nave tech guy is bringing a smile to my face. Considering I?m a Hathaway Apologist, I?ve always thought she was an underrated comedic actress. I also think Anne has had some issues getting the kinds of roles she wants and thinks she deserves, so she?s in the midst of some kind of career reboot. There seems to be an emphasis on more ensemble films, more crowd-pleasing comedies and that kind of thing. As for Rebel? I hope this is good.

Anne Hathaway has an interesting newish interview with The Guardian to promote her film Colossal. Colossal premiered at TIFF this year and the consensus amongst critics was that this is a bonkers film, but enjoyable and well-acted. Anne plays a depressed, alcoholic loser who returns to her hometown, and then? well, there?s a sandbox. And when she?s drunk and she plays in this one sandbox, a huge monster causes chaos in South Korea. Spoiler: she IS the monster. Anyway, in this interview she tries to act like she was so ?extra? during her winning Oscar season because she had just gone crazy doing Les Miserables and she was pretending to be happy. Sure. She also has some interesting stuff to say about toxic masculinity.
Playing an alcoholic: ?I have met a lot of addicts in my life who I have a lot of tender affection for. I love when stories present the opportunity to take groups that have been stigmatised or judged and then show the human side. I always look at them and think, ?That?s me in there,? on some level.
Whether this is a film about toxic masculinity: ?I?m glad that you used the word ?toxic?, because it?s very important to say that it?s very different from male energy. Male energy is beautiful. Male energy is welcome. Male energy is necessary. Male energy is half the reason why we?re here. That said, there has been a perversion of the beauty of male energy into this macho ideal that I don?t think services anybody. In the case of Ghostbusters, the thing that made me so sad about that experience was that people seemed to be blaming the girls for the men who chose to hit the film that they were in, and I didn?t think that was cool. In terms of my new movie, what our director was saying was that he thinks this energy really has no place in our world any more.
Whether she?s sick of blockbusters drowning out the smaller films: ?No. But you?re right that things are not working in the way that people want them to and there?s a need to reassess. I don?t take it personally when bad movies get made. It takes so much work to make anything. I don?t know where it?s going to lead to, and I don?t know if this movie is going to have an impact. I?d like to think it might empower people to take risks, but I don?t think we need to diminish one in order to celebrate the other.
Whether she?s seen the newly rebooted Batman movie: ?I haven?t had a chance to see the films yet because I?m feeding a child from my body, and that takes up all my time, but I am aware of the reactions that various movies have had. I just think you gotta remember that no one sets out to make a bad movie and when people do, they?re aware of it.?
The craziness of her winning Oscar season: ?I felt very uncomfortable. I kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadn?t come back yet. Then I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I don?t feel which is uncomplicated happiness. It?s an obvious thing, you win an Oscar and you?re supposed to be happy. I didn?t feel that way. I felt wrong that I was standing there in a gown that cost more than some people are going to see in their lifetime, and winning an award for portraying pain that still felt very much a part of our collective experience as human beings. I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That?s the truth and that?s what happened. It sucks. But what you learn from it is that you only feel like you can die from embarrassment, you don?t actually die.

I thought her subtle shade on Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice was probably the most tactful thing she could say. Clearly, she was proud to be a part of Christopher Nolan?s Batman movies, but no, Zac Snyder?s vision is full of lens flares, stupidity and Sad Batfleck. As for Annie pretending to be happy and that?s why ?I got called out on it, big time.? That?s an interesting rewrite on that situation. I feel for her, because it?s not like she did anything ?wrong? ? she was simply annoying. She didn?t commit a crime, she didn?t bad-mouth anyone, she was totally professional. She just annoyed the sh-t out of everybody and it became a thing that she still has to talk about in interviews more than three years later. Poor Annie.
