Here are some photos from the Paris premiere of ?mother!? Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky were seemingly the only people from the film in Paris to promote the film – Javier Bardem had to stay behind in Venice to promote another film, and I guess Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer won?t be doing a ton of stuff to promote the film at all (to be fair, Ed Harris has done nothing so far). So, what we?re getting is another J-Law fashion show. I enjoyed her J.Lo-esque Versace number in London, mostly because I hoped it was a signal that she wasn?t going to wear endless Dior pieces. But of course she went with Dior for the Paris premiere. Even though it?s sort of bland, I do like this gown. It?s pretty. It feels like it?s a little bit wasted on a low-key Paris premiere though – this would have been a good gown to give to a TV star for the Emmys next weekend.
Meanwhile, as we?ve been discussing for a few months, it does seem like J-Law has a thing for somewhat abusive directors. In her Vogue interview, Jen said that Darren Aronofsky made her keep filming even after she tore her diaphragm. There are stories circulating that he bullied her constantly during filming too. So what does Aronofsky have to say about it? From his Guardian interview:
On the reports that he likes to ?break down? his actors: ?No, no. It?s not about breaking them down. They break themselves down. They?re game. Actors? Sometimes they forget, but I think the original reason they started acting was to be able to cry in front of class. Sometimes they forget that, when they become big action movie stars, because that?s more about modelling than acting. But they love it, really. So I?m always looking for actors who want to roll up their sleeves and let loose and just cry. Javier?s not afraid of crying; he?ll do anything. Jennifer, completely the same. She?s still very young; not jaded in the least. And, yeah, she was scared on this movie, because she knew she was going to have to go for some big emotions.?
Jennifer tore her diaphragm: ?Yeah, she ended up tearing her diaphragm. She was hyperventilating. Because of the emotion.? Is it true that he then immediately ordered her to do the whole scene again? The director snorts. ?Well, yeah. Pull it together. That?s very British, right? Come on, let?s go.? And how was Lawrence with such behaviour? Did she tolerate it? ?No, no,? he says, apparently worried I?m getting the wrong end of the stick. ?I mean, we gave her time to recover. The thing is that she?d been thinking about that scene way too long, and it got all up in her head. So then the emotions flooded her and I saw what was happening ? because I?m experienced ? and was able to get the camera in the right place. The shot was originally on her back and I flipped the whole thing, let her recover and then said, ?Get the camera on her face, right now?, because that?s the kind of emotion that you never, ever see.?

Basically he?s saying that when his lead actress hurt herself because she was so consumed by getting the performance right, his first concern was flipping the camera around to film her in pain and make sure that he captured her true distress. I really don?t understand directors like this, and yes, I know that many brilliant directors treat their actors this way. Stanley Kubrick did it too – driving his actors to madness with endless takes, wanting to see ?real? emotion and pain instead of ?acted? emotion and pain. It just? sucks. It sucks that Jennifer is dating Aronofsky.

Roselyn Sanchez, who played Carmen Luna on Devious Maids, is expecting her second child with husband, actor Eric Winter. The couple, who have a five-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Sebella, have revealed their second will be a boy. They have also spoken to People about how physically and emotionally trying it is to conceive through IVF. Roselyn is 44 and Eric is 41. They didn?t start trying for a family until their mid 30s and were stunned that they couldn’t conceive after three years of trying. Even after successfully carrying their daughter, they struggled again to conceive their son.

?We tried [to conceive naturally] for at least three years [before Sebi] and it was a shock,? saysDevious Maidsstar Sanchez, 44. ?I have four siblings ? my mom is very fertile. I knew that I had endometriosis, but with me, it wasn?t an indication that I was going tohave a problem with conceivingbecause my tubes were clean and my ovaries were clean. It was devastating.?
?All your life you avoid having children and when youwant to have children, it?s so difficultwhen you leave it for late,? adds the second-time mom-to-be, who tells PEOPLE she and Winter, 41, didn?t start trying to have a baby until she was in her mid 30s.
?We did artificial insemination.We?ve done the IVF,? she says. ?[Sometimes], even though I did my whole cycle of shots and I got my eggs, my body would just go haywire. And we didn?t time it properly and I would ovulate, so the whole cycle was lost.?
?We put in multiple embryos and the doctor basically said, ?Look,even with multiple embryos, you have less than 15 percent chance of getting pregnant,? ? Winter adds. ?If anyone told you you had a 15 percent chance at anything, you would never believe it.?
Says Sanchez, ?It?s been up and down ? the journey to conceive [our son] started two years ago, and I have been basically pumping my body with hormones for six years on and off.?
?Even though [I?m] 44, I don?t feel like I?m 44,? Sanchez says. ?I take care of my body, I?m very clean, I?m very healthy. It?s brutal, mentally and emotionally, when you go, ?Whyis this happening to mewhen I take care of myself? What do you mean my eggs are not viable anymore?? ?
?I just wish that [conversations about fertility were] more out in the open,? she says, ?so you can make a more educated decision of when you want to be a mom.?
?[Fertility treatments are] super expensive ? what you put your body through, it?s not easy, and it?s sad,? Sanchez continues.
?If I have any advice, it?s don?t wait until you?re 40-something. It?s not that easy. It?s possible ? we?re doing it. I feel awesome because I?m going, ?You know what? It happened at a point in my life that I?m very mature.? I was ready, I?m fulfilled, I?m financially stable. All those things are great, but it?s not easy.?

I?ve heard similar comments from women about how they spent so much time trying not to get pregnant and then they spent just as much time trying to get pregnant later. I was 36 and 38 when I had my kids. Because we were starting later than most our friends/colleagues, we were surrounded by stories of fertility treatments and struggles. It?s smart to reach an agreement about the amount of time and resources you both are willing to devote to conceive a child. I understand Roselyn’s perspective that she was healthy and should still be fertile. You can be told something your whole life and still not understand that it applies to you. On the other hand, it just sucks that our fertility takes a nose dive after a certain age. Like, I get we need to physically be able to raise kids, but mentally some of us need the deferment, you know?
Roselyn and Eric have written a children?s book that features their daughter, whom they call Sebi (cute), as the main character. It?s called Sebi and the Land of the Cha Cha Cha and it came out just last Tuesday. The couple is active in many charities both in the US and om Roselyn?s native Puerto Rico. So when the book came out, Eric a href=”http://people.com/babies/eric-winter-daughter-sebella-inspired-new-book/”>took the real life Sebi to the NICU at White Memorial Medical Center to teach Sebi to give back. I thought that was lovely.

In “Who cares as long as she?s happy” news, Scarlett Johansson is not only successfully swimming in, but pretty much ruling the dating pool. The 32-year-old actress, who split from husband Romain Dauriac last year, has had some pretty high-profile dates since joining the ranks of “single and ready to mingle-dom.” Back in May, she hooked up with Saturday Night Live writer/performer Colin Jost at one of the show?s infamous after parties. Most people viewed it as two people just having fun, but the pair were spotted smooching at a swanky party in the Hamptons just this past Saturday night. Could this be more than a fling?
In addition to spending time with Colin, Scarlett has spent some time in her social calendar with her attorney, Kevin Yorn. Scarlett was first spotted holding hands with Kevin in June. Since then, they?ve been spotted out together, but their relationship isn?t very cut and dried. A source told People that even though the two are ?openly dating people,? there are some mutual feelings that ?haven?t fizzled? between them. Will these feelings evolve into something more? According to the source, that?s not likely. ?[Yorn?s] not ?the one? for her or anything like that. They genuinely enjoy each other?s company and that will never change.?
Even though their relationship can safely be described as complicated, the two still make time for each other. Says the (chatty) source, ?They?re still seeing each other but are busy and have a lot of commitments, so when they get moments of time, that?s when they make the effort to see each other outside of their work exchanges.? But, whatever they?re doing, don?t call it dating, as ?Dating wouldn?t be the right word for their current status.? Kevin has pretty much plead the fifth on his relationship with Scarlett, keeping ?very quiet about it among friends and colleagues because of how it may appear on the outside.?
After my divorce, I was dating a few guys at the same time, there?s nothing wrong with it if everybody?s on board – especially since it doesn?t look like anyone is in the market for a serious thing. It sure appears that Scarlett?s not hiding either relationship, so I can only assume this love triangle is sanctioned by all parties. There?s plenty of time to settle down, so sow those oats, Miss Scarlett.
