| Mariah Carey to bullied gay kids: 'Just keep believing!' | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

You know what?s weird? I never really think of Mariah Carey as a big gay diva icon. Like, I think of Cher, Barbra Streisand, Liza, Judy Garland, even Celine Dion as the definitive divas that the gays flock to - but Mariah is up there, isn?t she? Why shouldn?t she be? She?s got the voice, she?s got the crazy costumes, the over-the-top makeup, and the whole ?butterfly? fetish - she?s a drag act waiting to happen. Anyway, Mariah is interviewed in the new issue of The Advocate, and she talks about bullying, gay marriage, and whether she secretly dreams of having a gay son:
Her message to young victims of antigay bullying:
It’s horrible that it’s almost 2011 and this is still going on, but I don’t want to get on my podium and say, ?Just keep believing!? - I know that’s clich, and it would be typical of me to say something like that. It’s almost impossible to say anything, really, except you must be aware that dealing with that in high school is a passing place. You have to stay strong, rely on your true friends, and try to get through it, as opposed to drowning in it. Look at how many people suffered during high school and came out of it a better, stronger adult. That’s the thing to focus on.
On gay marriage:
If two people want to get married, it?s their prerogative ? we hope. Everybody should be able to do what they want to do and be in the pursuit of happiness. Ever since I was a little girl, my mother was very open-minded and had many different types of friends, so being gay never seemed wrong or strange to me. Her best friends were a gay couple, Ernie and Mort, and they kind of co-raised me. They were the nicest guys ever, and they would watch my little shows when I?d sing. Today, I guess they?d be called my guncles. Sometimes they?d put us up when we didn?t have a place to go. I couldn?t wait to go stay at their house because it was so beautifully done.
How might you and Nick handle it if your child turned out to be gay?
I guess we?d handle it as best we could in terms of being supportive.
You strike me as one of those people who might secretly hope for a gay son.
[Laughs] I just hope for whoever?s going to be happy and that I can be a great mother to.
On having a lesbian daughter who won’t wear Mariah’s tight hand-me-down dresses and butterfly jewelry:
No comment. [Laughs] No, the thing is that you can’t try to make somebody something they’re not. Everybody’s like, ?Oh, if she has a girl, everything’s going to be pink, blah, blah, blah.? But I don’t think you should go totally overboard on that. You should wait and see what the child wants.
On bisexual rumors:
If it makes somebody happy to say that, then whatever, but that’s not the reality. I don’t have a discriminatory policy of who I’m friends with, so yes, I’m friends with women who are gay - gay, straight, it doesn’t matter to me. So I don’t get upset when I hear that, because it is what it is. I guess I could lie about it to seem more exciting.
On the rumor that Lindsay Lohan tried to seduce her:
No, but I have hung out with her at a club. She was with Sean Lennon, and they came over. I remember he was playing my Hello Kitty guitar, and we were all just singing, laughing, and making up songs. It really couldn’t have been more innocent.
On Burlesque being the new Glitter:
I haven’t seen it, and I don’t feel like sitting in a movie theater right now. I can barely lay in bed and be comfortable. First, I’m going to go see Elf, the Broadway musical, because I’m very focused on my Christmas music moment. But maybe I’ll see it when it comes out on DVD.
On turning her Christmas songs into a musical:
It definitely wouldn’t be about my life; start that rumor and they’ll never lose it, so make sure people know it’s not about my life. Right now we’re working on finding a script. We’ve been in discussions with HBO for over three years now. Everybody’s been very supportive of the project, but nobody wants to accept a script that’s not amazing. Anybody out there reading this who’s a writer or writer-in-training, we’re definitely accepting different ideas right now. Because it’s so important to me, I don’t want to make a mistake and have the script not be as good as the music. I want the script to be better than the music. … A long time ago, the first idea I had was for it to be on Broadway and hopefully become a perennial. Then we spoke with HBO and got into discussions about making a movie musical. So it wouldn’t be a TV movie, because it’s not TV, it’s HBO.
Last year you made magic with filmmaker Lee Daniels in Precious, and now you?ve created another holiday miracle with Marc Shaiman. Not to detract from their talent, but is there something special about gay men that makes them a perfect creative match for you?
I mean, how could I say that there?s not? I can?t generalize too much because straight people I work with will be like, ?Well, what does that say about me?? But it is true that there?s a certain chemistry there. Yes, their talents are gigantic, but they?re also open-minded, and it?s all about the shared references. I really clicked with Marc when we wrote our first song together, ?Christmas Time Is in the Air Again,? because our references were so similar. His are way deeper than mine in terms of standards and older Broadway stuff, but he was surprised that I knew old standards that most people don?t know, because my mom would sing them when I was really little. And Lee?s another one that you just can?t help but love. He?s got his own unique personality, and we share so many of the same references as well. I can?t even think of all the crazy things we quote and laugh about.
[From The Advocate]
See, she?s down with the gays. So why don?t I have the association of Mariah and a gay fan base in my mind? Is it my problem, or does she just treat all of her fans equally, gay or straight, they are all her beautiful butterflies?
Also: I am enjoying SO MUCH how Mariah is already plotting to get herself a really girly daughter. She?s already got a plan to ease her potential daughter into the Pink stuff, by not overexposing a girl into too much girly stuff right away. Mariah has given this some thought!

| Nick Cannon sets the record straight: no twins, no Santa and no heels | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Nick Cannon just killed my dream. My dream was that Mariah Carey was expecting twin girls, and that she was planning on naming them Butterfly Princess Glitter and Rainbow Sunshine Cupcake. But it was just a lie (not really)! Nick Cannon just confirmed to Us Weekly that he and Mariah are just expecting one baby, not two, and that they don?t know the sex yet. Nick also confirmed a few other things too:
Mariah Carey may be staying mum, but her hubby Nick Cannon wants to clarify something: they’re only expecting one bundle of joy.
“That rumor started because she said something about ‘they,” the comic told UsMagazine.com at the Time Warner Cable Launch of SignatureHome Thursday. “Something like, ‘I hope they don’t hate Christmas,” but she was using the word ‘they’ as in, like, he and she.”
And while Cannon said the pair doesn’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl, he is coming clean about something else. Yes, he did whisper to Carey’s belly that there is no Santa.
“I got in trouble for that,” he told Us. “I’m a Santa-ologist. At three-years-old my Dad told me there was no Santa. And my wife is Mrs. Christmas, so I have to compromise on that.”
But he’s not willing to budge on his mandate that Carey stick to flats for the remainder of her pregnancy. “Yes, no more heels,” he told Us. “I’m going to make sure of it!”
[From Us Weekly]
I kind of love the idea of Nick trying to order Mariah to give up her heels. That would be like getting Posh Beckham to stop posing so hard, or trying to get Renee Zellweger to stop squinting. The heels (and the too-tight, inappropriate dresses) are what makes Mariah special. If she isn?t tripping all over herself in too-high stripper heels, what is she?

Gearing up for the Christmas season, Mariah Carey joined Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show yesterday to chat about holiday music.
The ?Always Be My Baby? singer revealed that she feels lucky that her song ?All I Want For Christmas is You? has become one of the biggest holiday songs of all time.
?Watching people grow and to feel like that was their holiday anthem, making the sequel "Merry Christmas II You" became a quest to try to live up to the first one.?
Mariah also noted that her hubby Nick Cannon is already trying to debunk the Santa Claus aspect of Christmas to their unborn child.
?He starts trying to whisper to my tummy saying ?there?s no Santa?- You can?t be with the most festive woman on earth and [talk like that].?

| Did Mariah Carey let it slip that she is expecting twins? | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I think we put this in the links a few days ago, but it?s worth noting again - Mariah Carey MAY have let it slip that she?s expecting twins. She?s being vague, and she wants everyone to speculate, of course. She?s MARIAH. She?s always the most important person, topic, etc. Anyway, Mariah was tweeting something about her pregnancy and her Christmas special (on NBC), and she wrote ?I just hope that they don’t turn out hating Christmas!” Oh, MIMI.
Are there two?or more??mini-Mariah Careys on the way?
The 40-year-old singer, who recently announced that she and husband Nick Cannon are expecting, spoke with Radio Disney’s Ernie D. to promote her new holiday CD, Merry Christmas II You, on Tuesday, and while explaining that she sings songs from her new album to her baby bump, Carey let slip wit an offhand statement that will no doubt launch 1,000 rumors: “I just hope that they don’t turn out hating Christmas!”
“They”? Very interesting. Cannon, who normally is quite active on Twitter regarding personal matters, has been radio silent on the issue … likely holding any big reveals or denials for his own radio show.
[From Celebuzz]
It?s perfectly possible that Mariah is expecting twins - I?m pretty certain that she got pregnant using some kind of fertility drugs or maybe even IVF, both of which can lead to multiples. Here?s a thought: what if it?s twin girls? How awesome and amazing would that be?

Whenever I think of Mariah Carey and Christmas together, I always think of Love, Actually. That scene, you know? That scene that will give you goosebumps no matter how many times you see it. The scene where Joanna, the little American girl - the object of little Sam?s affection - sings Mariah Carey?s ?All I Want For Christmas is You?. And little Joanna kills it? sigh? I?m going to watch that movie again over Thanksgiving. Anyway, Mariah Carey did a show at Rockefeller Center last night - it was all for a pretaped Christmas show for NBC, airing on November 30.
I guess it?s notable because this is the first performance and major outing Mariah has given since she announced her pregnancy - she was pregnant when she performed in Brazil a few months ago, but that was before she announced anything. Personally, I think Mariah looks amazing - I don?t know how far along she is, but I find her radiant and beautiful. This red coat certainly helps - I?m not pregnant, and I totally want it.

Not letting her pregnancy slow down career efforts, Mariah Carey joined Snoopy to celebrate the recording of a "Charlie Brown Christmas" special in New York City on Friday night (November 19).
Held as part of the Rockefeller Center's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the wintertime event will be airing on November 30, 2010.
Meanwhile, in an upcoming interview with Radio Disney's Ernie D, Mariah dished that her new holiday album is for her unborn child, as she said, "I was recording this when I found out I was pregnant!"
As for her plans for Christmas, the Grammy winning singer told, "I usually go to Aspen, but I'm not supposed to go there this year because I can't ski and I can't really do any of that stuff being pregnant. So, I'm just going to have to figure out where else we're going to go."

| Us Weekly: Mariah Carey says 'acupuncture' helped her get pregnant | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Of all the solutions to life?s struggles and tribulations, acupuncture is one of the remedies I am most wary of. I understand the idea behind it - that our bodies have pressure points, and that if you ?puncture? a certain part of your toe, your headache will be relieved, et cetera. I know people who swear by it. I know people who hate needles of all kinds, and get barfy and queasy at the idea of someone sticking something sharp into them. I am one of the latter category. I get barfy around needles. My mother was recently hospitalized, and they couldn?t find a vein to get blood, and the nurse was jabbing at my mom?s arm, and I swear, I started sweating and hyperventilating and I almost passed out.
Anyway, Mariah Carey swears by acupuncture, and she claims - in a new cover interview with Us Weekly - that it helped her in the difficult months she and Nick were trying to get pregnant after their first miscarriage.
After suffering a miscarriage following her April 2008 wedding to Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey cried herself to sleep many nights. But in an exclusive interview in the new Us Weekly (on newsstands now), the singer says she and Cannon never gave up.
Though she dismisses reports that she did IVF, Carey tells Us Weekly she began taking progesterone, a hormone that is often prescribed to boost fertility and support or help maintain pregnancy in women susceptible to miscarriage.
Cannon also tells Us Weekly his wife relied on “once-a-day” acupuncture, “all over her body. I think it helped her quite a bit, because it was a good destressor.”
Seeing Carey’s face when they learned she was pregnant “was priceless,” Cannon recalls. “We definitely cried. We still cry all the time. It’s an emotional journey.”
With their baby due in spring, Carey says it still “amazes” her she’s going to have Cannon’s child. “He’s a great person, and we have more in common than not,” she tells Us Weekly.
“I know people initially were, ‘What? Those two?’ But I think people who know us get it.”
For more - including what Carey thinks about her “weight gain”; what foods she’s craving “in the middle of the night” and how they found out she was pregnant - pick up the new Us Weekly today!
[From Us Weekly]
If it works for her, then that?s great. But do you think she?s lying about not doing IVF? I don?t know, I really don?t. I think it?s perfectly possible that Mariah was on the motherload of fertility drugs, and that?s all.
By the way, Mariah was just on Ellen DeGeneres? show, and she talked about whether she would force Pink onto a possible daughter - it?s really funny. Mariah is already scheming her way into getting either a super-girly-girl or a very fabulous boy.

Things are exciting in the life of Mariah Carey - she and hubby Nick Cannon are having a baby, and she?s also launching a new lifestyle line.
The ?Always Be My Baby? songstress is gearing up for her big HSN breakthrough on November 29th when she?ll unveil a new collection of jewelry, footwear, and fragrance.
Carey told press, ?I never even used to wear jewelry. I used to wear baby earrings, tiny things. When I started to get into jewelry a little more, Joan was working with HSN, and that?s how I met Mindy Grossman.?
Ms. Grossman added, ?[Mariah] is personable, funny and smart and obviously creative and talented, and we just talked about what she is passionate about ? shoes, jewelry, fragrance and her music. I said, ?Why can?t we do it all?? She is magnetic, and I think this has the opportunity not just to appeal to our existing customer base, but also a lot of new customers.?
