Sometimes I really do wonder if Madonna has always been a total moron, and her whole career was just a fluke. I don?t really think that?s the case - I think Madge is a smart businesswoman and a great reader of trends, the latter being one of the most underrated qualities for celebrities today. But for all of Madge?s business savvy, she?s a f-cking idiot about history. Madonna is set to direct her second feature film in a few months. The film will be about - at least in part - the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, or King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. Madge recently gave an interview about the Duke and Duchess and she ended up angering the history buff in me:
Madonna, who is making a film about the Duchess of Windsor, says Nazi slurs about Wallis Simpson were unfair. Madonna’s hopes of enlisting the Queen’s support for a film that she is making about the Edward VIII abdication crisis are unlikely to be helped by inflammatory claims she has made about Wallis Simpson.
“People have accused Wallis of all kinds of things,” she says of her fellow American. ?They’ve said that she put a spell on Edward. They’ve said that she was a hermaphrodite and that he was gay. They’ve said they were Nazi sympathizers. It’s just the usual lynch mob mentality that descends upon somebody who has something that lots of other people don’t have.”
The admiration for Hitler of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, as they became, concerned the government, particularly after he entertained them in 1937.
Mandrake reported in March that Madonna would ask the Queen for filming on W. E. to be allowed in royal palaces.
“Madonna is keen to make the film as authentic as possible and would be very grateful if we are allowed to film at certain locations,” said one of her associates. “She loves the UK and holds your Queen in the highest regard.”
Madonna, who lived in Sir Cecil Beaton’s former house in Dorset during her seven-year marriage to the British director Guy Ritchie, plans to start shooting the film this summer. The singer has long been fascinated by the 1936 crisis, in which Edward VIII’s desire to marry Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American socialite, caused a constitutional dilemma.
The crisis was resolved by Edward’s abdication and his succession by his brother, George VI, who was the Queen’s father. Edward was given the title the Duke of Windsor and he married Mrs Simpson.
[From The Telegraph]
This film that Madonna will direct, it?s something that she?s been researching for years, allegedly. So how is it that Madonna never found any of the extensive documentation about the Duke and Duchess?s true sympathies for Nazis in general and Adolf Hitler in particular? Back in 1937, before the bombing of Britain, and after King Edward?s abdication (in 1936), the Duke and Duchess toured Nazi Germany and met with Hitler. They were photographed giving the ?Sieg Heil? Nazi salute. When the Duke and Duchess traveled to America during the war, Roosevelt had them monitored as anti-Allied spies. There were rumors that should Hitler ever take control of Britain, he would install (or re-install) the Duke as king, answering to the Nazi Empire. There is extensive documentation to back all of this up - so what the hell is Madonna talking about? Something tells me this film she’s doing is going to be a “reimagining” of the Windsors rather than a story with any kind of historical accuracy.

Here’s Madonna’s Mert & Marcus photoshoot for Interview Magazine, and I do notice some rather glaring dissimilarities between how she looks in these pictures and let’s say, this one and this one. Where’s the stringy arms, the bulging veins, the wan complexion? It’s like trying to pass off beef jerky as a nice and tender filet mignon. It might come from the same animal, but one is tough, chewy and dehydrated.

Showing off her sexy sense of style, Madonna appears in the May 2010 issue of Interview magazine looking mighty fine.
The Material girl worked the camera for the spread, shot by illustrious photographers Mert Atlas and Marcus Piggot.
And what?s more, Madge opted to go without airbrushing and retouching of the photos, and displayed her natural beauty.
In the shots, Madonna tugs at her underwear, kisses a crucifix and even dons an eyepatch in an effort to show her range as a model.

For some strange reason, Madonna is the May cover girl for Interview Magazine. The interview is conducted by director Gus Van Sant, also for some unknown reason. The complete piece is here, but I?ll just do the highlights. Madge talks about Malawi, and her kids, but mostly she?s trying to front like she and Gus Van Sant are totally directing colleagues. She talks a lot about the movie she directed, Filth and Wisdom, and her upcoming project W.E., which is supposed to be about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, sort of. Here?s

Stepping out for a good cause, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna were among the stars turning up for the 2nd Annual Bent on Learning Benefit in New York City on Wednesday night (April 28).
Held at The Puck Building, the "Material Girl" was joined by daughter Lourdes after organizing the event with Gwyneth's yoga instructor, Eddie Stern, to raise funds to offer yoga in underprivileged inner city schools.
Not interacting with Madge during the course of the night, a metallic mini-dress clad Miss Paltrow recently told Vogue magazine of her declining friendship with Madonna, "[She] keeps people waiting ? it takes up your whole day... It was too much."
Gwyn later added, "I'm having a situation right now with a friend where I'm feeling pretty angry. But revenge doesn't make me feel good."

Here are some new photos of Madonna with a very young Jonas Brother-looking model, filming a Dolce & Gabbana ad in Harlem. Am I the only one who thinks that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are using Madge in this neverending ad campaign because they?re trying to work out some mother issues? And yes, this kid looks like he?s 12 years old, and somehow

Continuing to spend their precious time in Malawi, Madonna and her family were spotted in the African nation once again on Thursday (April 8).
The ?Material Girl? singer, along with daughters Lourdes, 13, and Mercy, 5, casually strolled along the street and made their way to the local all-girls school.
Madonna?s sons, Rocco, 9, and David Banda, 4, sat this visit out - although they, too, made the overseas trip to lend their help alongside their generous mother.
After adopting Mercy and David from Malawi, Madonna felt compelled to help. Of her first visit to the country, the singing icon said, ?I returned home knowing the future of Malawi was resting on the shoulders of these orphaned children, and I had to act.?

Having a caring heart, Madonna feels especially close to the Malawian orphans.
The famous singer is currently spending time in the African nation with her children, Lourdes, 13, Rocco, 9, adopted Mercy, 5, and David, 4 ? with Mercy and David both being from the country.
During the trip, Madonna is excited to be able to help the young women with the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls school.
In a blog about building the school she wrote, ?On my first visit to Malawi, I was devastated to meet child after child who had been orphaned by AIDS. Having lost my mother at such a young age, I felt a close connection to these children. Their stories had touched my own. In a country of 14 million, a staggering one million children have been left alone with the responsibility of raising each other. I returned home knowing the future of Malawi was resting on the shoulders of these orphaned children, and I had to act.?
Meanwhile, Madonna wants to reunite David and Mercy with their original families, but Mercy?s father, 25-year-old James Kambewa, has left the country.
It is said he may have left because of all the attention he was receiving from accusations saying he got her mother, 14-year-old Mwandida, pregnant ? which lead to her death during childbirth.
However, David?s father, Yohane Banda, can?t wait to reunite with his son. ?I am excited David is coming,? he said. ?I want him to meet his stepmother and new sister and brother.?
