| Gwyneth Paltrow, peasant: 'I?m incredibly close to the common woman' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
I?m trying to remember if I?ve ever used the phrase ?the common woman? in all seriousness. I think I might have written it sarcastically, to make fun of some peasant-shading elitist, but I can?t say that it?s a phrase that comes rolling off the (peasant) tongue for me. But then again, I?m not constantly defending myself against charges of unbridled elitism. To be fair to Gwyneth Paltrow, she was not the first person in this CNN Money interview ? she was asked how she thinks she has anything to say to ?the common woman.? As in, the CNN interviewer asked her that. So? while I?m not giving Gwyneth a total pass, I think she was just rephrasing the question. I also think she truly believes that she has an enormous amount in common with the commoners. Some assorted quotes from Gwyneth?s CNN interview:
The purpose of Goop: “What we try to do at Goop is curate and to edit. We know that a woman’s time is her most precious resource and we want to multitask, get a lot done, and what we want to do is provide the best solutions.?
The common woman: “I’m incredibly close to the common woman in that I’m a woman and I’m a mother and we all are in a physical body with beating hearts with compassion and love we are all seekers?we all want fulfillment, we all want to live our best lives. We want to be healthy and happy and squeeze the most we can out of life. I think that’s all women.”
The perception that Goop is only for rich people: ?I always say that when people make that false assumption, it?s because people haven?t actually gone to the site and seen what we?re selling and seen what we?re about? I think the idea is that we?re going to find the best thing and where it is at any price point.?
Don?t call her a lifestyle guru: “I see myself as an actor and a mother and as an entrepreneur. I don’t see myself as a guru at all. I’m not a guru because I’m the one asking the questions. I’m not purporting to know anything.”
[From E! News]
She certainly has her talking points down ? she said some similar things in her recent Wall Street Journal interview too. Do you really think Gwyneth Paltrow is down with the common woman? I think it?s interesting that she?s trying to seem like she is. I think it?s interesting that this is her new image. She?s no longer the snotty elitist deigning to speak to the common people, she?s trying to say that we are all women and we all go through the same crap. Are you buying it? And by ?buying it? I mean ?$5000 Goop-curated booty shorts.?

| Gwyneth Paltrow in Marc Jacobs for amfAR Hong Kong party: hot or fug? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from this weekend?s amfAR party/gala in Hong Kong. I?m surprised by how many Western celebrities flew to Hong Kong for yet another amfAR gala, you know? I mean, amfAR is a great foundation and every little bit helps. But it feels like everyone attending this event had an ulterior motive, or perhaps they were paid to show up? In any case, the gala raised $4 million. Which was probably the cost of Gwyneth Paltrow?s rather gorgeous Harry Winston diamond earrings.
Gwyneth wore this Marc Jacobs gown in a pretty blue/purple. I was okay with the ?bumps? at the collar, but I?m less sure about the ?bumps? on the skirt. It feels like Gwyneth is trying to channel posh bubble wrap. As for her styling? she looks really pretty. Her hair (which was done by Marco Chan for D&V Hairpieces) looks great and her makeup is simple and pretty. I really do love those Harry Winston earrings too. Goop has really been bringing the jewelry p0rn for big red carpets lately.

I?m also including some photos of the other ladies at the event. Kate Moss also wore Marc Jacobs, as did Naomi Campbell (Jacobs was one of the sponsors of the event). Victoria Beckham is in her own design (and she wants her line to be huge in China). And here?s the kicker: Paris Hilton was there! Gwyneth and Paris totally walked the same carpet. How gauche.

| Gwyneth Paltrow in pink Ralph & Russo at the Oscars: love it or hate it? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I always think it?s funny when someone I ?love to hate? shows up and I give them the benefit of the doubt or I flat-out like their look, and everyone yells at me for not hating it. That?s what happened with Jennifer Aniston ? I genuinely liked her Versace, even though most people believed I should loathe it. And I?m sure it will happen again with Gwyneth Paltrow and her Oscar gown: she wore Ralph & Russo Couture with a big floral arrangement on one shoulder. You know what? I LIKE IT.
The dress reminds me of something although I haven?t been able to place the reference. (Oh, I just got it: Angelina Jolie did the shoulder-flower Ralph & Russo years ago.) I feel like Goop is referencing her own Oscar-winning moment with the color, right? Gwyneth famously wore that cotton-candy Pink Ralph Lauren and I feel like this petal-pink shade is a throwback to that. One thing I?ll give the critics: her hair was not the best. But at least she didn?t do a flat-ironed center part, eh?
People were complaining about her jewelry too. PEASANTS!!! Gwyneth got paid to wear Anna Hu jewelry ? the $425,000 earrings were cabochon Rubellites with white and yellow diamonds, plus sapphires and tourmalines. She also wore a ring made of ?rare 6.27-carat pigeon-blood Burmese ruby, Pink diamonds and brilliant-cut white diamonds, set in rose and white gold.?
And here?s Gwyneth?s BFF (in her mind) Beyonce, at the Vanity Fair party. Beyonce wore Stella McCartney (the dress) with a J. Mendel white fox bolero. I don?t hate the Stella dress, but I?m pretty sure Sam Taylor Johnson already wore it during the Fifty Shades promotional tour.

She?s become a red carpet fixture and Gwyneth Paltrow definitely didn?t disappoint her fans as she attended the 2015 Oscars tonight (February 22) in Hollywood.
The ?Shakespeare in Love? lady went all out for the exciting evening, sporting a fabulous frock as she posed for photos at the Dolby Theatre.
This year, Neil Patrick Harris has signed on as the master of ceremonies, while Jennifer Hudson, Anna Kendrick and Lady Gaga will take turns entertaining the A-list crowd with very special performances.

| Gwyneth Paltrow at the Tom Ford LA event: poorly styled or decent? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Pre-Oscar events are usually pretty well-attended, as stars from around the world descend on LA to get drunk and party ahead of the big show on Sunday. But I swear, I have never seen a more well-attended ? by A-listers! ? pre-Oscar event than last night?s Tom Ford show in LA. Tom Ford called it a ?presentation? of his Fall/Winter collection and all of the A-list ladies came out to support him. And of course Tom Ford dressed all of them. First up: Gwyneth Paltrow. What?s going on with everything above the neck? It looks like she?s having an allergic reaction to something. Is that bad makeup? I know it?s bad hair ? she needs to get out of her flat-ironed, center part rut. As for the dress, it?s okay. It?s a decent little cocktail dress. (PS? Goop is presenting at the Oscars!)
Jennifer Lopez was almost the headliner for this post because OMG BOOTS. At first I thought she was wearing grandma-style knee-high socks, mostly because my mind has been on socks lately because I?m on the East Coast Frozen Tundra. But these are boots. Terrible, terrible boots. The dress is not cute either.
In close-ups, Emily Ratajkowski?s lips are too much. But in full-length shots, she looks pretty hot. I?m not in love with this dress but she wears it well. I think the zebra print would be hotter without the lace, you know?
Naomi Campbell? ugh. Do you guys know that I?m not a fan of the one-sleeve thing? I have a general aversion to asymmetry in general, but one of the worst design tricks, in my mind, is to do one long sleeve and leave the other one completely bare. This dress looks surprisingly sloppy, right?
My biggest fear right now is that Julianne Moore is going to wear a custom-made Tom Ford gown to the Oscars and it?s going to be a total disaster. But? her outfit here is pretty cute? I would have liked it more if it had been a green one-piece, but I don?t hate this at all.
Dylan Penn is kind of snooze here. If you?re a would-be Fashion Girl looking to make an impact at what turns out to be the biggest fashion show in LA, don?t wear a blah little dress.

| Gwyneth Paltrow 'quietly separated' from Chris a year before they 'uncoupled' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here?s the cover of Marie Claire Australia?s March issue, with Gwyneth Paltrow. It?s a bad cover for her, right? While I make fun of Our Lady of Perpetual Goops, she usually photographs well and she?s usually up for a good editorial. Anyway, in this MC interview, Gwyneth admits that she and Chris Martin had actually separated a year before their conscious uncoupling announcement. Which means both were free and clear to fool around with other people, I suppose. Some highlights:
The quiet separation: Marie Claire Australia claims she purchased a house as long ago as 2012 and then went through ‘a year of quiet separation’.
Working with Johnny Depp while she and Chris separated: “Nobody knew what Chris and I had been going through, so I didn’t say, ?Hey, this is what’s happening,’ but I did ask him mostly children-centric questions, like, ?How is it on them?’ and ?How did you do it?’”
On her split: “It’s very sad. You have an expectation of your life, and it’s sad to change that expectation.”
The ?conscious uncoupling? term: “OK, you can make fun of the term or whatever. I didn’t invent it.?
She and Chris are still tight: “We’ve worked really f–king hard to get to [this] point. But we’re very, very close, and it’s so nice. I feel like it’s, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have.”
[From The Daily Mail & E! News]
At this point? yeah, of course she?s admitting it. We knew it already. She and Chris had spent several years living largely separate lives. They barely spent any time together. In fact, they spend so much time together post-split that I bet it sort of confuses their kids.
Other Goop news? Us Weekly had a funny story about Gwyneth bringing her kids to the Grammys and then trying to explain to them the difference between the awards for albums and records. Star Magazine also has a story about Gwyneth and her undercover boyfriend Brad Falchuk. Apparently, they?re still together but Brad wants to go public with their romance and really be her ?official?. A source tells Star: ?At first they were waiting for the hype around their relationship to die down, but now there?s no more excuses. He wants to start walking red carpets hand in hand.? They should totally go to the Oscars together.
Here are some pics of Gwyneth at the Grammys. Her dress was Stella McCartney. I don’t completely hate it, which shocked me.

| Gwyneth Paltrow gently reminds the peasants to steam-clean their 'business' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

We tease/make fun of Gwyneth Paltrow often enough for her elitism and her casual privilege. Sometimes we could possibly give her the benefit of the doubt, but after so many years of her holier-than-thou attitude and her ?advice? to the peasants, the ?benefit of the doubt? well has run dry. Goop.com is a hodge-podge of Gwyneth?s advice about everything from eating (avoid it) to exercise (do as much as possible) to New Age faux-spiritual crap. I swear she gets paid to ?recommend? a lot of the crap she shills through Goop, but this week?s recommendation has Dame Goop boldly going where she?s never gone before: up your vadge. Literally. She thinks that everyone simply must try the ?V-steam? which promises to steam clean your uterus. For real.
Tikkun is the next level when it comes to Korean spas, combining high-tech far infrared heat with traditional Korean sauna therapies. So, if you want to lay down in a Himalayan salt brick tiled sauna, or sit in a Hwangto clay room, you get the added benefit of far infrared heat. And, in addition to the sauna rooms, there?s a long menu of massages and kick-ass body scrubs to complement the sauna time. We?re burying the lede though, because the real golden ticket here is the Mugworth V-Steam: You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al. It is an energetic release?not just a steam douche?that balances female hormone levels. If you?re in LA, you have to do it.
[From Goop]
Steam cleaning your uterus? Sounds?uncomfortable. Like, is the steam HOT? Is anything going to be scalded? And does it work like an iron? Are you de-wrinkling down there? So many questions about such an unnecessary procedure. My take: if your uterus needs a steam clean then you?re doing it wrong.
Apparently, it costs $50 to steam clean your V. That?s relatively cheap when it comes to Goop recommendations, until you realize that you could just boil some water and fan the steam up your business for pennies. The website says there are five V-steams to choose from: ?the signature, the slimming, the infertility, the post-partum and even a signature V-steam for men.? MEN CAN GET V-STEAMED!

These Gwyneth Paltrow stories are a few days old, but they?re worth discussing. First of all, how did Gwyneth?s big promotional push for Mortdecai work out? Not so well, especially compared to Jennifer Lopez?s offering, The Boy Next Door. TBND was made for $4 million and it made $15 million on its opening weekend. Compare that to Mortdecai, which was made for $60 million (WHY?) and it only opened with $4.13 million. The thing is, I?m not sure we could or should put that at Goop?s door. Mortdecai was billed as a Johnny Depp film with a star-studded ensemble. If Gwyneth had been less visible during the promotion, Depp alone would be eating this bomb. But because Gwyneth deigned to get in our faces, now she has to eat it too.
Speaking of Gwyneth?s eating habits, did you know she?s going to write (?write?) another cookbook? Her first two cookbooks ? My Father?s Kitchen and It?s All Good ? were bestsellers and likely made Gwyneth a nice chunk of change. Her first cookbook got a better reception, probably because the food was relatively normal. Her second cookbook was when all of Goop?s elimination diet stuff came out to play and she talked about starving her children of carbohydrates and everyone was like ?Yeah, this isn?t a diet, it?s an eating disorder.? So what does she have in store for us this time?
Gwyneth Paltrow is writing a third cookbook, everyone.
“It’s fun ? I really love doing it. It’s an awesome side project that I get to do, and I feel really lucky that people bought the first one and the second one!” the Mortdecai actress and Goop head said on Rachael Ray Friday morning.
So what can loyal Paltrow kitchen fans like Meryl Streep expect? “Clean comfort food” for the entire family, because she says she always finds herself running out of ideas. Plus, “I think I might do appetizers for a party section because that’s always a tough one. It’s like you’re having a party, and you don’t want to be in the kitchen. Make-ahead trays and stuff you can stick in the oven. ? I love easy party food and kid-family food, and that’s where I am right now.”
The third title will follow 2013?s It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great and 2011?s My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness with Mario Batali.
[From THR]
Clean comfort food and appetizers. So, carrot sticks and soup. Not just any soup, either. Low-sodium broth, probably.
While on Rachel Ray, Goop also told a story about trying to do a peasant version of eggplant parmesan and failing completely:
She dished to Rachael Ray that the worst meal she’s ever made was an eggplant parmesan when she was 18 years old.
“I went to the store and bought some eggplant, a jar of tomato sauce and some really rubbery mozzarella cheese,” she recalled. “I didn’t know that when you cook eggplant, you first have to sweat it to get all the bitter juice out, and I didn’t realize that you also have to bread eggplant parmesan and fry it before. So I put slices of raw eggplant with jarred tomato sauce and mozzarella! And everyone threw up.”
[From THR]
To be fair to Goop, she was just 18 years old when that happened. And she dared to use peasant prep-food like ?a jar of tomato sauce.? She would NEVER do that today. NEVER. She would rather smoke crack than use tomato sauce out of a jar.
Gwyneth?s last Goop-letter was all about recipes too, so maybe she?s trying out some new stuff for her cookbook. She got a lot of headlines for suggesting a recipe for ?Sex Bark? which is not as dirty as it sounds. It sounds like something I would want to try with Michael Fassbender, but in GoopWorld, Sex Bark is just a chocolate with ?Moon Pantry Sex Dust?. In case you?re just dying to know, go here to read. She?s just shilling her friend?s herbs (truly).

| Gwyneth Paltrow in Lanvin at 'Mortdecai' premiere: unflattering or lovely' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The big premiere of Mortdecai was held last night in LA. Scarfy Depp was there (Bedhead will have those photos later), and so were the rest of the cast. What kills me a little is that this film actually did assemble a decent cast: Scarfy, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan Mcgregor, Paul Bettany, Jeff Goldblum, Olivia Munn and more. Too bad the whole thing looks like a really cheap and poorly acted Peter Sellers rip-off. Anyway, let?s talk fashion.
Gwyneth Paltrow wore this blue-green Lanvin Spring 2015 gown. It feels like she sort of phoned it in, right? Like, she didn?t even bother to get these gown properly tailored, that?s how little she cared. This could have pretty if it was a beautifully tailored column, but Lanvin tried to be fancy with that cummerbund thing, which goes underneath the dress in the back. From the front, this Lanvin makes Gwyneth look wide (and she?s not wide at all) and from the back, this is just? not good. I even think her earrings suck. Damn, Goop! You could do better than this.
Many of Goop’s girlfriends came out to support her, including Tracy Anderson. I dislike this outfit, but I think we should just be happy that Tracy isn’t dressed up as an overgrown cheerleader.
And here?s Olivia Munn in Ralph Rucci. Eh. Basic dress is basic. It?s got a nice fit and it looks nice on her, that?s all I?ve got.
Would you likes some Jeff Goldblum? His wife/baby-mama can?t dress for sh-t. But Jeff found Paul Bettany and they embraced like lovers on the carpet, and all was good.
