The annual LACMA Art + Film Gala was held this weekend in LA, obviously. It feels like it came early this year. It also feels like the Art + Film gala was a little bit subdued this year, but maybe I?m misremembering previous galas. One of the big A-list names at this year?s event was Gwyneth Paltrow. Gucci was one of the major sponsors of the event, so most of the women wore Gucci, and Goop was one of them. I will never understand the ?big shoulder? movement in womenswear. Shoulder pads are still a mystery to me and the ?linebacker shoulders? on this Gucci dress are a big ?WTF?? Still, this was by far one of the cutest Gucci dresses at this event, so maybe that was the point. Also: my kingdom for a side-part on Goop.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Gucci. I find this shade of Pink sort of garish, but Rosie can pull off some weird stuff. On almost anyone else, this would be kind of twee and cheap-looking, but she comes close to looking good.
Zoe Saldana and her husband Marco Perego. I feel like Zoe lost a bet with someone over at Gucci, because she clearly got one of the worst Gucci gowns, or she got the one intended for Florence Welch. I could totally see this of Florence and it would sort of work on her. On Zoe? I?m just staring at the snake slithering up from her crotch. Gucci should call this the Taylor Swift-Snake Emoji dress.
Kate Upton came to the event with her fianc Justin Verlander. I like her simple gown ? it looks like Dolce & Gabbana to me.

The look of the day is apparently Gwyneth Paltrow?s lotus dress. _(?)_/
Seriously, so many fashion sites are talking about this dress today. I don?t really get it. Gwyneth made an appearance at Elle Spain?s Style Awards last night, and I guess she was the only A-lister there (sorry, Elizabeth Hurley). Gwyneth has been a big fan of Spain for many years ? she?s traveled through the country extensively and she?s apparently pretty fluent in Spanish. So, I guess it makes sense that she would go out of her way to attend this event, especially since they gave her an award for something.
As for the dress, it?s Gucci. And it has a big velvet lotus flower down the front. Why is this a thing? I mean, is the dress hideous? No, it?s not. It?s just not? Gucci? It?s just not a rich, designer look that I would expect from the fashion house or from Gwyneth.
Also: Gwyneth didn?t go to the event with her boyfriend Brad Falchuk. Is anyone one else wondering if there?s trouble in paradise with Gwyn & Brad 2.0? I think he?s still married. Her ?date? for the event was US Ambassador to Spain James Costos.
Other photos? ordinarily, I think Olivia Palermo has great/interesting style, but not here. Her look is Dior. And I totally thought Monica Cruz was her sister Penelope. Monica wore Moschino and that?s a mess too.

Newly divorced steamed-vagina-haver Gwyneth Paltrow is talking again about steamin? up your lady parts. Gwyneth?s Goop site posted their first (and only) story about vagina-steaming back in January 2015, and ever since then, it?s been something a long-standing Goop joke. I mention it because Gwyneth references V-steaming in her new interview with New York Magazine. The whole piece is worth a read, just because Gwyneth?s default setting is always set to ?believe whatever the $1000-an-hour healers tell her.? There?s a lengthy conversation about Eastern medicine versus Western medicine, but I thought the most interesting part was where Gwyneth basically shrugs off the idea that her focus on expensive, ?clean? makeup and vague ?wellness? programs are only for the wealthy. Oh, and Gwyneth takes credit for making yoga cool. And dieting, and juices. She made it cool to talk about wellness, people. Some highlights:
How she defines wellness: ?It?s an interesting question, because there?s a ?wellness movement? people are talking about. For example, Target has a new wellness mandate. The idea is definitely in the Zeitgeist. In the most broad term, it?s this idea that each individual is striving towards a better-feeling version of their physical life. Wellness is the movement towards health, whatever that means to you. [In science,] there are many ideas about medicine, and so many ways of achieving health with Western and Eastern medicine. Honestly, when it comes down to it, it?s very individual. It?s about what each person is hoping to achieve in their next level of health. It?s looking after yourself, being mindful about how you want to feel, and what you can do to achieve that end.
When she started using the word ?wellness?: ?I don?t know. We?ve talked a lot about health and wellness at Goop. I?ve always been interested in alternative ways of achieving this elusive wellness. I?ve been very experimental and I?ve tried all kinds of modalities, diets, and juices. I kind of like being the guinea pig for it all. I remember when I started doing yoga 20 years ago, and people thought I was super weird and didn?t know what I was doing. It?s the same way with organic food or acupuncture. I was always the one saying ?Hey, this is cool,? and people being like, ?You?re super weird.? And now, yoga is ? [Gestures big]. I?ve always been cutting the path in the exploration of how to live a long, healthy life.?
What she can say to people to convince them of ?clean beauty?: ?I feel like it?s not my job to try to convince. When people start to educate themselves people tend to migrate to cleaner products ? that?s what I?ve experienced. I was doing conventional products for my whole life. Then I started mixing it with clean. It was only really recently where I said, ?Okay, that?s it.? I read the last piece of research and I was like, I?m out?.Yes [I do clean beauty], except for hair. Hair I find hard, but for the most part I?m pretty clean. My kind of vanity is clean.?
Whether there?s a luxury aspect to the clean-beauty/wellness conversation: ?Um ? I haven?t really thought about it. Across all nontoxic products, there are all different kinds of price points. From the supply-chain standpoint, the more that nontoxic ingredients are available and made in bulk, the prices will go down. There?s always a luxury and mass market for anything and everything.?
Whether she laughs at herself when she tries out new things: ?Oh, totally. The first time I tried v-steaming, I was like, This is insane. My friend Ben brought me and I was like, ?You are out of your f–king mind. What is this?? But then by the end of it I was like, ?This is so great.? Then I start to do research, and it?s been in Korean medicine for thousands of years and there are real healing properties. If I find benefit to it and it?s getting a lot of page views, it?s a win-win.?

While I think Gwyneth could and maybe should get credit for destigmatizing some of the diets and fitness crazes that would eventually blow up, I also think she?s humblebragging when she?s like ?I made it cool, yo!? Those classes and diets existed before Gwyneth, she just promoted them. She was a high-profile person and she started following fads just as they were becoming fads. That?s what I always think of Gwyneth ? she?s a person who follows fads. If you tell her about some experimental new diet or fitness craze, she?ll try it, co-opt it and claim she started it and that she made it cool. As for Gwyneth shrugging off the conversation about the price of wellness? yeah. Gwyneth’s idea of wellness and clean-living is only for rich women who can afford it.

I don?t know why we?re only getting this quotes now, but for some reason, a million sites are talking about this story today. Gwyneth did a Q&A session about Goop, conscious uncoupling and raising her daughter surrounded by post-feminist imagery. As it turns out, Gwyneth was also asked about how she?s often at the top of those ?most hated celebrity? lists. Gwyneth acknowledges your scorn and chuckles into a glass of your peasant tears.
Gwyneth Paltrow had a weird 2013. Weeks after People put her on the cover of its annual “World’s Most Beautiful” issue, Star magazine named Gwyneth the “Most Hated Celebrity,” beating out Kristen Stewart (No. 2), John Mayer (No. 4), Madonna (No. 7), Justin Bieber (No. 8), Anne Hathaway (No. 9), Lindsay Lohan (No. 16), Chris Brown (No. 20) and other stars. Speaking to Stephen Sackur, host of BBC News’ Hard Talk, at Cannes Lion, Paltrow said she was confused by the title. “First of all, I was like, ‘I’m the most hated celebrity? More than, like, Chris Brown?’” she asked. “What did I do?”
“I see where you are coming from, but maybe you just make people feel bad sometimes,” Stephen suggested. Gwyneth agreed that it’s possible she puts people off, but it’s never been her “intention” to make anyone feel that way. “All I can do is be my authentic self, and if you know me, then you know who I am, and that I have fun and eat and am so appreciative for my life,” she explained. “But I think there are things about me that make people draw conclusions.”
Gwyneth acknowledged that there is a perception that she grew up “very wealthy” and raised “with a silver spoon” in her mouth?or, as Stephen put it, “a sort of Hollywood princess idea.”
“That inspires a lot of resentment,” Gwyneth said. “My parents did well, and I was able to go to a fantastic school, and we grew up in New York City, but the minute I left my college to try to pursue acting, my father [the late producer Bruce Paltrow] was really supportive. But he said, you know, ‘You are completely on your own.’ So, he never gave me anything. I never had any supplementation, he never helped me with my rent, I never had a trust fund. So the idea that I am spoiled or that I didn’t work for what I have is just not accurate, but I can see how somebody might have that perception.”
Another misconception Paltrow wanted to clear up is that she’s a picky eater. “People tend to think that I eat just seaweed and a bit of air,” she said of her refined tastes. In reality, the actress said, “I have never had a horrible experience with French fries. French fries are my life!”

We?ve often discussed Gwyneth in the context of the saying ?born on third base and thought she hit a triple,? which is very, very true. But let?s also acknowledge that Gwyneth is a certain kind of incarnation of clueless white privilege. I understand her argument, that she supported herself financially after she dropped out of college and that she built her Goop empire by herself. But she doesn?t acknowledge ? meaning she consistently refuses to discuss ? that she was given extraordinary advantages simply by being Gwyneth Paltrow, a pretty, blonde, slender woman, and the daughter of Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner. That she had family connections within the industry, that the name ?Paltrow? opened doors for her, that she never really struggled at all. I mean, ?He never helped me with my rent, I never had a trust fund? is like the embodiment of Gwyneth?s privilege.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been talking about sex a lot lately. Maybe it?s part of her new branding scheme: The Sexual, Sensual Goop In Her 40s. Maybe it?s a late reaction to her divorce. Maybe Brad Falchuk is giving it to her properly. Or maybe it?s a combination of all of the above. In any case, Gwyneth is not content to merely say (odd) words about sex in interviews. This week?s Goop-letter is the first-ever ?Sex Issue.? Sex, Goop Style. The Low-Down on Goop?s Downtown. Becky with the Bad Straw Hair has sex. And she wants you to know about it.
You can see the whole Goop site here. The Sex Issue features an article about an ?erotic theater? in LA, because rich people can?t just watch p0rn in the comfort of their own homes anymore. There?s an article about ?hormone free? technology to improving your sex life. There?s a Goopy article about whether or not your lube is toxic, and whether you should make your own lube at home. There?s an informative and interesting piece about sexual trauma and psychological scarring, and how that affects one?s sex life.
But the piece that is getting the most attention is the Goop Sex Toy Guide. Because it wouldn?t be Goop if Gwyneth wasn?t recommending that you spend thousands of dollars on seasonal, artisanal vibrators. I?ll give Goop some credit ? there are some affordable recommendations on her list, like a $69 feather toy, Ben Wa balls that only cost $25 and $10 ?cleaning spray,? because nothing says romance like Windexing your beav. But because she?s Gwyneth, she has to remind you that only 24-carat gold touches her ?gina: she is literally recommending a $15,000 24-carat gold dildo. There?s also a $535 whip, a $400 nipple-clamp necklace, and a $156 G-spot App. Yes, there?s an app for that. If you?re a peasant and can?t afford a gold dildo.

First of all, the Red Mag styling team and Photoshop team deserves a slow clap for their editorial of Gwyneth Paltrow. This is the best Gwyneth has looked on a magazine cover in a while. It helps that they fluffed up her hair. It also helped that they Photoshopped the crap out of her skin to the point where she looks like a dewy 20-year-old Princess Diana. Anyway, Gwyneth is promoting her latest cookbook, but you wouldn?t exactly know that from her Red interview. She spends most of the interview talking about Chris Martin and how he?s like a brother to her, which is something she?s said before and I always find it creepy. Chris is the father of her children, her ex-husband, her best friend? all of that is fine. But don?t say he?s like a brother! Here are some highlights from the interview:
On Chris Martin: “I think that I’m very lucky in that I have such a willing partner in agreeing with, and teaching me, as much as I taught him. And bringing to me, as much as I brought to him, ideas about how to do it in a really gentle way, so it would be really gentle for Chris and myself. We loved each other very much, and we still do love each other, and we have these two beautiful children together. I thought, ‘I wonder if there’s a way where we don’t have to do that to our kids and we can just carry on having family dinners.’”
Goop plays with the timeline of her split: “We had broken up a year before we announced it, so we would have this time to work through everything. It’s also almost about having to press the ‘override’ button whenever you feel angry or jealous or whatever, broken-hearted. You have to press the button: I’m going back to the baseline of ‘I love this person, he’s the father of my children, he’s a wonderful man. I’m just going to put my s–t aside for right now.’ It really has not been easy for me at times; I’m sure it’s not been easy for him.”
Putting the kids first: “When we said we’re going to put the children first, we meant [it]. If you want to put your children first then why are you slagging your husband off in front of them? So we really tried, [and] that meant, ‘I’m gonna check my s–t at the door, and I’m going to focus on all the reasons that I love you, that you’re like my brother and my family forever and we’ll deal with that stuff another time.’ It’s not always easy, but it’s just the way we wanted to try to do it. I have to say it wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for, but it was our outcome and we’ve really done the best that we can.”
What it?s like to be 43 years old: “At 40, my life changed so much. I think every woman around that time gets this massive software upgrade. You’re just different. You’re upgraded. For me, there were just a bunch of changes I had to make to really be true to myself and really live my happiness. And you have to be brave and make the choice to do that, to truly accept yourself and love yourself and really forgive yourself for your missteps. So, it’s been a long interesting road to get to the place where I feel really content and that I really know myself and like myself. I wish they could teach girls to do this when they are 16 instead of 40, but that’s part of life.”

While I roll my eyes at a lot of what the Lifestyle Blondes have to say about health, beauty and aging, I do appreciate the fact that they are increasing the positivity around the 40-year marker. Even now, there are so many people in Hollywood and beyond who believe that a woman is completely useless/unmarketable/not-sexy after the age of 40. While I can?t speak to the ?massive software upgrade? one gets at 40 (40 is still several years away for me), I can tell you that I don?t feel upgraded. Yet. Maybe it will come.
As for Gwyneth playing with the timeline of her split? eh, it?s convenient to say that now. It?s a way to explain her affair with Brad Falchuk and it?s a way to explain Chris?s wandering eye and rumored affairs.

I keep on having Arrest Development moment with this story. ?Beads.? ?BEES?? Gwyneth Paltrow has been talking so much recently because she?s shilling her latest cookbook, It?s All Easy. So Gwyneth gave yet another interview to the New York Times ? by my memory, this is her third in a month ? and this one is surprisingly not about food or books, but about the crazy sh-t Gwyneth does in the name of beauty. She loves oils: ?In general, I love serums and face oils and body oils. I?m a real oil kind of girl. There?s a myth that oil is not good for your skin. I don?t believe in that at all. So lately I?ve been using my Instant Facial ? it has some gentle fruit acids in it, and you feel it go active because there?s a little tingle ? and seeing great results. There are also some beads in it (obviously not the plastic microbeads), and it leaves me glow-y. I think you?re supposed to use it only three times a week, but I?ve been using it more. Then I?ll use the day or night cream, or our oil, and the eye cream.
Makeup & Apple?s interests: ?I often go out with just mascara and a little cheek. I don?t use bronzer. You need technique to use bronzer, highlighter and BB cream, all these things my daughter tells me about. She watches YouTube. She?s very vocal about what she likes and doesn?t like. I sort of let her do her own thing at home. She loves experimenting. I obviously don?t let her out of the house with a full face. But I think she?s going to be way more into beauty than I am.?

Gwyneth Paltrow is still promoting the Goop collaboration with Juice Beauty, the organic and non-toxic beauty line. So Gwyneth gave an interview to this week?s issue of People Magazine. Unfortunately, the quotes are not as eye-rolly as her recent Glamour Magazine interview, where Goop came across as stuck so far into her bubble of privilege that she could not understand that she wasn?t and isn?t a self-made woman. This People interview is all about how Goop feels ?beautiful? and what she does to feel beautiful.
Gwyneth Paltrow is feeling beautiful and it’s no accident. The 43-year-old star tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue that she relies on balance in her life to keep her feeling her best.
“I think it’s really important to be happy, and I think women get happy by being authentic,” she says. “But I also believe in exercise, eating well, drinking lots of water, sex, sleeping and being around people who make you feel good. And I think that glow that you get in life comes from a combination of all those things.”
The GOOP guru is taking her love for all things green to the next level with her very own skin care line in collaboration with Juice Beauty. Launching March 1, the non-toxic collection comes on the heels of a her recent makeup collaboration with the brand. The entrepreneur and mom of two says that she created the line because she feels that “women deserve to have a really effective, beautifully made product that’s non toxic and organic.”
With a lengthy career, family and GOOP under her belt, Paltrow says aging doesn’t faze her one bit.
“I earned these gray hairs,” Paltrow declares. “I really am not afraid of getting older.”

Just once, I would love to hear Gwyneth say ?You know what? I believe in ?You Do You.?? But that whole idea would cut into her cottage industry of sanctimonious advice. She came close to just saying ?women should be authentic,? but she remembered that her role on earth is to remind every woman that they can?t just be authentic, they also have to exercise, diet, drink lots of water, have sex, get a lot of sleep and be the Queen Bee of a group of Botoxed blonde women. Classic Goop. Achieving happiness is never as easy as saying ?just be yourself.?
Am I the only one who rolls her eyes every time Gwyneth talks about how hard she works? ?I earned these gray hairs.? Did you though?
Fun fact: Both Brad Falchuk and Gwyneth are still married to other people.
