I love Claire Danes. She’ll probably always be Angela Chase to me, but she’s also gone on to do equally significant things as her career progresses. These are photos of Claire in New York City in September to promote the second season of “Homeland,” and her bump was already looking pretty big at that point, so I imagine that a birth announcement shouldn’t take much longer. Maybe January or February at the latest. Then things will probably get pretty real for Claire and Hugh since they’ll be new parents, and she’s tied to a seven-year contract that requires her to spend five months per year filming in North Carolina. It will be tough, for sure, and I guess the plan is that she’ll keep the baby with her, and he’ll visit. Of course, I’m only assuming as much. Maybe Hugh will take some time off for the first round of away time so they can be together as a family.
Now Claire, who is probably thrilled with the new Globe nomination for “Homeland”, has sat down for an interview with Grazia magazine. Among the topics discussed are Hugh, dance parties, and dropping out of college. My feelings on the latter are astoundingly non-critical, and here are some excerpts:
On her favorite people: “Who am I closest to? My husband, which I’d say is probably good news. He definitely trumps everyone else, although I’m pretty close to my parents, Christopher and Carla. I haven’t been spending a lot of time with Hugh lately because we’ve been in so many different places with work, but he is the person I tell absolutely everything to. I trust him more than everyone else.”
Date nights are short to come by: “A couple of weeks ago I went on a date night with Hugh, who I hadn’t seen in a long time because of work. We went out to a restaurant in New York and I had a big bowl of pasta. I was a little overwhelmed with joy to be with my guy, eating lots of carbs. It was heaven.”
She’s still fun: “I can get a dance party started pretty much anywhere and anytime. I’m shameless and I’m motivated in this cause. I love to dance.”
College wasn’t really for her: “In an ideal world, it would have been nice to have graduated from Yale University. But, in the end, I didn’t really need to go further than I did (she dropped out of her psychology degree after two years). There are also a lot of shoes that I probably did not need to buy. I’m not being obnoxious, I am just excessively self-critical. It has served me well in a lot of ways, but I think I rely way too heavily on it.”

It’s easy to scoff at Claire’s statements regarding not finishing her college degree, and at one point, I might have jumped on that bandwagon. However and as time wears on, my feelings on the higher education bubble have grown into a slow burning of resentment. We’re all told that, at minimum, and undergraduate degree is an indispensible asset, and I think it’s a sham unless you’re majoring in something very practical like engineering or pharmacy or the something else that is truly in demand. At this point, I feel like higher education is a tool to keep lots of people employed while running universities, and while that’s obviously a good thing (especially in today’s economy), the bubble will ultimately burst, and it will be a complete disaster.
Perhaps I’d feel differently if I’d had a totally free ride from my parents, and I would truly feel that the “enriching” experience of a liberal arts education (and professional school) was worth my time and energy. But it’s definitely not worth the money (I had one professor for two courses who actually taught me anything about writing, and the rest came from Amazon.com), and since I’m one of those people who will be paying off my education for (at least) another decade, I can safely say that investing in college was an utter waste. In that regard, I can no longer shake my head at Emma Roberts or Claire Danes for feeling like their acting (or modelling) opportunities are more important than a piece of paper.

Claire Danes covers the September issue of British GQ to promote the second season of “Homeland,” and she looks absolutely stunning and skyscraper-esque on the front of the magazine. Claire is, of course, now pregnant with her first child with husband Hugh Dancy, and she talks about how hard it is to spend five months per year away from him while filming the show in North Carolina. She even signed a seven-year-contract for the show, so if it continues to be successful in the ratings, that away time is going to be an ongoing issue and quite a challenge when the baby arrives. I wonder how she and Hugh will juggle their newfound duties, but I suppose they’ll manage. People always do.
Anyway, Claire sounds utterly in love not only with her hot husband but also her “Homeland” character, Carrie Mathison, the bipolar, brilliant CIA agent embodied perfectly by Claire herself. Here are some excerpts from the GQ interview:
On her “Homeland” character, Carrie: “She’s like my kinky superhero alter ego now. Because as disturbed and troubled as she is, she?s always f&%#ing right. Which is so nice because I so rarely am. To be honest I never expected [the show] to get picked up so I wasn?t sure what it was going to be like, but it’s fun. It?s like, ‘Oh, there she is again!’ I like her a lot.”
Why she turned down Titanic: “I had just made a romantic epic with Leonardo — it just seemed redundant to me.”
On being a child actor: “The problem is that I always took myself too seriously. Now I realise I should have lightened up. I was a serious kid to an absurd degree. I was overwhelmed with responsibility, trying to play grown up. I overdid it. [My friend] was a PA on a movie I did when I was about 16 and she was horrified by how old I seemed. She was like, ‘You’re a grandma and you’re 16. You?re f#%*ing weird, stop it.’”
On working away from Hugh: “It sucks. Seven years, it?s a long-ass time. But every year I?m going to have something really compelling to do. I remember [the script for Homeland] came up on the weekend I had to read for the secretary role on J. Edgar and I was like, ‘Do I want to play the secretary to some compelling person — or do I just wanna play the compelling person?’”

To this day, I always think of Claire as Angela Chase from “My So-Called Life,” and it’s refreshing to see a relatively rare former child actor who didn’t descend into drugs and debauchery. Let that be a lesson to all the Lohans out there, right? As talented and down-to-earth as Claire seems, however, I’m glad she didn’t end up playing Rose in Titanic. She’s right that it would have been awkward to play another love interest to Leo immediately after Romeo + Juliet.

Small screen?s greatest stars gathered together at the 28th annual Television Critics Association Awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday evening (July 28).
The lovely Claire Danes accepted the Individual Achievement in Drama Award for her hit thriller ?Homeland? while donning a gorgeous black dress at the famed Beverly Hills Hotel.
The 33-year-old expecting actress? successful show also took home Outstanding New pProgram, while other winners included ?Breaking Bad? for Best Drama, whose star Bryan Cranston hosted the awards, ?Downton Abbey? for Best Mini-Series and ?Game of Thrones? for Program of the Year.

My first reaction upon hearing the happy news that Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child: ?OMG, Will this affect Homeland?!?!?? Because, yes, I LOVE that show and if you watched the first season you know that it would be very wrong and weird to introduce a pregnancy for Claire?s character. Of course, it could happen. OMG IS IT BRODY?S?!?!?! No, I won?t go there. GAH! I can?t wait for the second season of Homeland. Those bitches are making us wait until September 30 for the second season. I don?t know if they?ve finished filming the season yet? It could be that Claire just announced the news as Homeland wrapped? Perhaps.
Her so-called life just got a little happier! Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
?There?s definitely a chance, no plans yet,? the Homeland star, 33, told PEOPLE last fall when asked if a baby could be on the way shortly. ?But yeah, that?d be fun.?
Danes, who won a Golden Globe in January, wed Hannibal star Dancy, 37, in a private ceremony in France in 2009.
While there was no official comment from Homeland?s production company, Fox 21, a spokesman says that Danes? pregnancy is not expected to impact the production of season two ? which premieres on Showtime Sept. 30 ? in any way.

Weird sidenote: I?ve been getting strange vibes from Claire and Hugh over the past year or so. Yes, he?s British and rather posh and fancy, so maybe it?s just a cultural thing, but I really thought they were on the verge of splitting. That was the vibe I was getting, so I didn?t expect this. I think it?s unfair to assume that this is a Band-Aid Baby, though. I don?t really know what?s going on in their marriage. Maybe they?re fine. Hopefully they?re all good. He?s in an acclaimed and award-winning Broadway play (Venus In Fur) and she?s getting nominated for every award out there for her ballsy and amazing performance on Homeland. Maybe they?re just two of the best actors out there, procreating quietly. Congrats!!

In the midst of celebrating America?s independence, a rep for the beautiful Claire Danes announced that she is expecting her first child.
The 33-year-old star and her husband Hugh Dancy revealed the news to People on Wednesday afternoon (July 4) and are thrilled!
Back in the fall the ?Homeland? actress told the publication, "There?s definitely a chance, no plans yet,? when asked if she had plans for a child. She added, ?But yeah, that?d be fun.?
Miss Danes wed her 37-year-old beau back in January of 2009 during a private ceremony in France.
In career news, a source said that the blonde beauty?s pregnancy is not expected to impact the production of season two of her television show, which premieres on Showtime September 30.

Hard at work on one of her more ?exhausting? roles, Claire Danes kicked off the week on the Charlotte, North Carolina set of her Showtime series ?Homeland? on Monday (June 25).
The beautiful blonde actress looked professional for her role as a CIA agent in an all-navy ensemble, complete with heels that she could be seen running through the streets in.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Danes admitted that she was ?apprehensive? to accept her role as Carrie in the series, saying, ?The pitch she's on is so high, and to maintain that hyper-vigilance is exhausting. But it's fun. I like her - she's smarter than I am, and definitely more bad-ass than I am. It's fun to wear her cape."
Though the 33-year-old is happy with her choice, she dished that there are still times when it can be tough, explaining, "The good thing is that Carrie's under pressure a lot of the time, so if I'm under pressure it's useful. But still, there are times when I just want to jab a pencil through my ear."
Season two of ?Homeland? will premiere September 30 at 10pm et/pt on Showtime.

She's one of the most adored ladies in Tinseltown, and Claire Danes has brought her magnetism overseas by taking over the cover of the June 2012 issue of Harper's Bazaar Russia magazine.
The 32-year-old actress looked elegant in a bright body and coat from Prada on the Mark Abrahams shot front page while showing off a racy range of looks in the accompanying spread.
The cover issue comes as Miss Danes has been situated in Israel to film the second season of her hit HBO series "Homeland" as of late.
Calling the country a "wonderful" place, Claire added that Tel Aviv is ?the most intense party town? of which she explained by saying, ?I realize, because it is very stressful there, you know, it?s rather fraught and people are kind of tense and they need to blow off some steam - and they do.?
Meanwhile, fans of Danes can look forward to seeing her back on the small screen when "Homeland" returns on September 30th.

Stepping out for a mid-morning fitness session, Claire Danes was spotted taking a jog along the West Side Greenway in New York City on Wednesday (April 25).
The "Stardust" actress looked sporty in black workout pants, a white Under Armour zip up and sneakers as she worked up a sweat while listening to some of her favorite music.
Miss Danes has been keeping quite busy hitting up multiple events the past few days. As previously reported by GossipCenter, the 33-year-old actress attended this year's Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere of the movie "Hysteria" on Monday night (April 23).
Following the festival, Claire made an appearance at the TIME 100 Gala the next night, as the annual event happened just one night before the publication released the full list, which honors some of the most influential people in the world.
Other attendees included Tim Tebow, Rihanna, Kristen Wiig and Hillary Clinton.

At last night’s Time 100 event, Claire Danes opted for more color than the ladies in white. As such, she wore a red Lanvin shift dress made of material that can only properly be described as resembling a Fruit Roll Up. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though because it’s not like she’s pulling a Katy Perry Sweet Tart look and pretending to sit on clouds and poop gum drops. And I do like Fruit Roll Ups even though I rarely indulge (not for weight reasons but because I’ve become quite obsessed with dental health lately). So this is a good (and just daring enough) look for Claire, who accessorized with diamond stud earrings and metallic gold Lanvin platform sandals. Her hair and makeup are appropriate and lovely as well.
Also, this is a great tan trenchcoat that is very flattering to Claire’s coloring and figure.
Rihanna also attended the event but was only photographed outside her NYC hotel (by our photo agencies, anyway). Pacific Coast news notes that Rihanna was “dressed to kill in a hot Pink gown and black cape,” but it looked more like she was wearing a fushcia prom dress and a spare coat borrowed from one of her bodyguards. At least she covered all of the necessary parts though, which is really saying a lot when it comes to RiRi and equates to a relative “fashion win” by those standards.

Claire Danes was on hand at the Tribeca Film Festival for last night premiere of Hysteria, which stars her husband Hugh Dancy as Mortimer Granville, the doctor who invented the modern electromechanical vibrator in 1880 (or so). Maggie Gyllenhaal, who stars in the film, was not present because, presumably, she’s getting some much needed rest while heavily pregnant with her second child. So we’ll have to get our female fashion fix with Claire, who wore a hot Pink and black shift-type Narciso Rodriguez dress, which was slightly daring in its color choice but quite strange in the boob area. The top part of the dress squishes Claire’s girls and makes her look really flat, which she totally isn’t. I think this look is supposed to be “edgy,” but Claire pulled off that vibe a lot better in last year’s metallic blue Oscar de la Renta gown. She still looks quote lovely though even if her eye makeup is a bit too severe.
Hugh Dancy was there too, of course! He and Claire walked the red carpet separately — I guess because it’s his film, and Claire’s Pink dress would’ve distracted from the red carpet’s rightful focus. Maybe. All I know is that Hugh looks like a British dreamboat.
Christy Turlington and Edward Burns were in attendance as well and dressed down for the event. Ed looks like he’s totally over this and would rather be a few steps away in his own Tribeca apartment. Can’t say I blame him.
