In 2013-14, Amanda Bynes had a psychological breakdown. I don?t know how to describe it really, but a lot of it was public. She was abusing drugs, likely because of her mental health issues. She ended up in a conservatorship, with her parents and grandparents acting as conservators. For years she was pretty quiet she was in recovery, she was getting the medication she needed, she went back to school and even graduated from a fashion academy. In 2018, she spoke about being sober and clean for four years. About thirteen months ago, she was able to legally terminate her conservatorship after nine years. Many of us had high hopes that her recovery would stick. This week, Amanda Bynes was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold.
Amanda Bynes has been placed on a psychiatric hold after she was found roaming the streets naked and alone TMZ has learned.
An eyewitness tells us Bynes was seen walking near downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning without any clothes. Were told Bynes waved a car down, telling the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode. Amanda herself then called 911.
Our law enforcement sources say Bynes was taken to a nearby police station, where a mental health team determined she needed to be placed on a 5150 psych hold.
Fortunately, our sources say it doesnt appear Bynes was hurt at all during the ordeal, though things couldve been much worse given the area where she was found.
A source close to Amanda tells us shes currently hospitalized, and will likely continue to receive care for several days. Typically, a psychiatric hold only lasts 72 hours, but it can be extended.
It was almost one year to the day when Amandas 9-year conservatorship was officially terminated. Amandas mother was her conservator starting back in 2013 when it was clear she was having issues with her mental health she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After a series of bizarre incidents including one where she set her neighbors driveway on fire, almost engulfing her dog in flames she was sent to a psychiatric ward for treatment.

There are several pieces of good news here. One, Bynes recognized that she was coming down from a psychotic break and she asked for help and called 911 herself. Two, she?s not starting from scratch she?s spent the last nine years in recovery, she?s built a life for herself, she understands the path she needs to take now. There is some reporting that Bynes went off her meds and that?s what led to this. Could be.

Following a few years of struggling with mental illness, Amanda Bynes is finally in a place to begin thinking about the romantic side of life.
The ?She?s the Man? actress, who is still under her mother?s conservatorship, is said to be stable enough to start looking for a boyfriend. An insider told press, ?It?s still one step at a time for Amanda in many and she?s been extremely hesitant about dating because she?s had such heartbreak in the past.?
"But she's now reached the point where she finally feels secure in herself and her friendships. Getting back onto the dating scene without any dramas would spell the full turnaround in her road to mental recovery. Amanda?s problem has always been moderation and managing her expectations - she?s an all or nothing type of character with no filter, which is what got her in such trouble in the first place," added the pal.

Here is Amanda Bynes walking with a Starbucks iced tea while smoking a cigarette in Los Angeles Tuesday.
Bynes sported a long, white sleeveless T-shirt, a pair of striped black Adidas leggings, sneakers, sunglasses and bleached blond hair, a style she’s kept for about a year.
The meds she is on sometimes cause weight gain. She is still beautiful, just a little heavy. Hopefully she will find some meds that work best for her. It takes time. Wish her the best.

Amanda Bynes has been on the loose in LA for more than a week, after she was discharged from a psychiatric facility just days after her parents had secured a conservatorship over her financial and medical situation. Amanda says she was diagnosed as bipolar and manic-depressive, but she also said she had a microchip implanted in her head at one point.
There are some concerns about how Amanda is living while not being institutionalized or taking any kind of help from her parents. Well, it?s complicated. TMZ says that Amanda?s parents were trying to control her spending by giving her American Express gift cards, usually in the amount of $50 or $100, and that?s how she?s been paying for her expenses, which are mostly hotel and restaurant bills. TMZ says Amanda?s parents give the gift cards to Amanda?s lawyer and the lawyer parcels out the cards. This is all in an attempt to get Amanda to hit rock bottom because her parents are apparently ?burnt out? after dealing with all of Amanda?s drama. But it looks like her parents are the ones hitting their rock bottom:
The parents of Amanda Bynes are throwing in the towel … they’ll file legal docs in the next few days handing over the conservatorship over their daughter to someone else, and then they’re moving to Texas … TMZ has learned.
Sources familiar with the case tell TMZ … Amanda will now be under the thumb of a mental health professional who specializes in handling people with severe mental illnesses. Her parents will ask the judge to transfer conservatorship powers to that person.
We’re also told the parents have made arrangements to transfer power over financial matters to another person … presumably a money manager.
The parents are leaving California and will move to Texas to be near their older daughter.
Both parents are saying they know they’ve struck out with Amanda and don’t have what it takes to effectively control her. They’re hoping once someone else controls Amanda’s finances, she’ll stop lashing out at them and they can have a relationship … even though it will be long distance.
[From TMZ]
Well, that?s one way of handling it. I mean? I can see why Amanda?s parents are feeling like they can?t do any more for her. It?s really difficult to try to look after a family member ? I?ve done it, and my situation didn?t involve caring for someone with a profound mental illness. And I still got burnt out. Quite honestly, Amanda?s parents might be doing the best thing for her by handing over her treatment/situation to professionals. She IS a public health risk and the state of California needs to start treating her as such.
People Mag also had coverage of this, and their sources basically say the same thing only they’re trying to put a happier spin on it. Lynn is relinquishing control of Amanda’s conservatorship because she cares about Amanda so much. the plan involves getting Amanda some live-in conservator, which is basically what Britney Spears has with her father. Her father lives with her and controls every aspect of her life. Something tells me that Amanda isn’t going to like this arrangement any better.

When we last checked in with Amanda Bynes, she had been released from a psychiatric facility on Thursday and she?s spent the last four days wandering around LA, talking to herself, eating a lot of food and trying to check into various hotels. Amanda?s parents got a conservatorship over her finances and medical care last week, but as of yet, Amanda still isn?t back in a psych facility. Then, last night, Amanda got on Twitter and tried to explain what?s happening:
Amanda Bynes announced that she has been diagnosed as bipolar and manic depressive and is taking medication. The former All That star revealed the news via her Twitter account early Tuesday morning.
“I was diagnosed bi – polar and manic depressive so I’m on medication and I’m seeing my psychologist and pyshchiatrist weekly so I’m fine ,” she tweeted. In a series of tweets, Amanda continued, “I’m not living with my parents. I’m not legally obligated to. My lawyer said if I comply with the courts and take my meds and see my psychologist and pyshchiatrist weekly then I will get unconserved. Thank GOD.”
In October, Amanda posted tweets alleging her father had verbally, physically and sexually abused her. She quickly retracted her claims and deleted the tweets. “My dad never did any of those things,” she wrote. “The microchip in my brain made me say those things but he’s the one that ordered them to microchip me.” She deleted that tweet, too. Shortly after, Amanda was hospitalized on an involuntary emergency psychiatric hold.
A conservatorship hearing was held while Amanda was hospitalized. A judge ruled that Lynne will have control over her financial and medical decisions pending a hearing set for Feb. 24, 2015. “I need to get an apartment and my parents won’t give me access to any of my funds,” Amanda, 28, tweeted Tuesday.
Amanda also tweeted that her parents have put her on a $50 a day stipend, but she has since deleted that post. “It’s really annoying,” the Hairspray star wrote of her alleged allowance.
[From E! News]
To be fair, just this morning Amanda tweeted: ?I was at a friends apartment last night and one of my friends tweeted my phone , sorry guys !? Which might mean she?s about to delete all of the tweets about her bipolar diagnosis and claim that someone else wrote all of that stuff. And she might even be right ? I?m sure one of the ?friends? in Amanda?s head did write those tweets. I have no doubt that Amanda was diagnosed as bipolar and manic depressive, but I have EVERY doubt that she?s on her meds right now.

As we discussed on Friday, Amanda Bynes was ? somehow ? released from a psychiatric facility on Thursday and she was seen wandering around LA, talking to herself and generally seeming unwell. This was a strange turn of events because just a few days prior to that, Amanda?s mom and dad got another conservatorship over Amanda?s finances and medical care. Upon her release, Amanda took to Twitter and once again claimed that her father had abused her, plus she tweeted some stuff about the microcysts under her eyes and how she was going to go to court to fight for her freedom. Freedom from her parents, specifically. You can go here to read Amanda?s Twitter feed.
In any case, Amanda?s parents did go back to court to sort out what is turning out to be a massive clusterwhoops, or what could be seen as a microcosm of how our country deals with mental illness.
A judge has denied Amanda Bynes’s attempt to wrest full control of her life back from her mother. On Friday, the actress sent a lawyer, Art Santiago, to appear in court on her behalf to contest a temporary conservatorship placed by a judge earlier this month that gives her mother control over her medical and financial decisions until at least February next year.
With both of Bynes’ parents, Rick and Lynn, present in the courtroom, the judge ruled that Santiago could not legally represent the star because he is not her court-appointed attorney, thus striking out her bid for legal and financial freedom. Saying he’s been in contact with Bynes for the past two weeks, Santiago told the judge he “convinced her to voluntarily take her medication” and has been “following her progress.”
“I’ve been dealing with her for the past two weeks and believe I’m the only one she can trust,” Santiago added.
The actress was released from a psychiatric treatment facility on Thursday, three days after a judge ruled that she needed to spend at least another month there. Bynes, 28, contested her involuntary treatment three days after the court ruling in a mandatory hearing at the facility, during which a hearing officer deemed her stable enough to be released.
Bynes’s mother, Lynn, was granted a temporary conservatorship on Oct. 22, allowing her control over the star’s medical and financial decisions, but not her psychiatric treatment. After leaving the treatment facility, Bynes was spotted roaming the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles late Thursday night wearing a dark coat and large sunglasses.
She also returned to Twitter, posting erratic Tweets that insulted her family’s lawyer, her father, and sometimes-manager Sam Lutfi, who played a role in getting her into treatment. Adds a source close to Bynes: “She said she was going to fight her parents in court because she didn’t want them to control her life.”
[From People]
Okay, so the court sort-of confirmed that Amanda?s mom does have the legal standing to be the conservator over Amanda?s medical care and finances. Sure. But where is Amanda? One of the last sightings of her was apparently Thursday night, when she was turned away from a hotel. According to TMZ, Amanda grabbed a wad of cash and threw it around the lobby. WHERE IS SHE?

She?s been under constant observation at a mental health facility since October 10th and on Thursday (October 30) Amanda Bynes was released from her involuntary hold.
According to TMZ, the 28-year-old unstable actress immediately went back to her strange behavior, roaming up and down the Sunset Strip and dining at a Sunset Boulevard restaurant.
Bynes contested her involuntary treatment and a hearing officer reportedly determined that she was stable enough to make her own decisions.
Still, Amanda?s mother Lynn has temporary conservatorship over Bynes? medical and financial affairs as she "poses a substantial risk to herself, to others, and to property."

Good lord, this is not going to end well. Earlier this week, media outlets announced that Amanda Bynes? 5150 psych hold had been extended for one month, after the initial 72-hour hold had been extended for two weeks. The one month extension was just verified on Monday! Which was around the same time that Amanda?s parents were once again approved for another conservatorship over Amanda?s finances (and possibly her medical care too). Now TMZ reports that Amanda was let out of the psychiatric facility yesterday. WHAT?!
Amanda Bynes has been released from the psychiatric facility where she’s been held for more than 2 weeks and was roaming the Sunset Strip Thursday night … TMZ has learned.
Sources familiar with Amanda’s treatment tell TMZ … she went before a hearing officer at the psychiatric facility Thursday, asking to be released. Amanda has been on her meds and sounds lucid, even though doctor’s say she is seriously mentally ill.
The hearing officer felt Amanda was stable enough so she could NOT be held involuntarily, so he ended the 30-day hold that had been granted last week and Amanda walked out the front door.
Amanda walked down Sunset Blvd., searching for a place to stay. She then went to a diner where she ordered a ton of food which she devoured — fried chicken, salmon, caesar salad with guacamole, and a house salad with Italian and ranch. She was chit-chatting with the waiter and said she was shy because she had a procedure on her face which required a bandage.
She was alone in the diner and was talking to herself. We’re told Amanda has been looking for a hotel room but she had been turned down at several places.
[From TMZ]
This is one of the biggest problems of profound mental illness ? a mentally ill person can be lucid and functional while on medication in a structured psychiatric environment, so the person gets released because they are not exhibiting any danger to themselves or others. Then as soon as they?re released, they go off their medication and the structure is gone and there is a significant ?relapse.? It breaks my heart that this one guy decided that Amanda was ?well enough? to be released, especially since it seems like her parents had gotten all of their legal ducks in a row to ensure Amanda was locked-down at this facility. Sh-t, man. Let?s see if someone can get her back into treatment.

The last we heard of Amanda Bynes, she had flown to LA and was immediately ?tricked? into checking into a facility where she was placed on an involuntary psych hold. This trickery was orchestrated by Amanda?s parents and Sam Lufti, of all people. Once Amanda was under a 5150 hold, sources claimed that Amanda?s parents were once again looking at their options. A guardianship/conservatorship would be more difficult this time around because Amanda seems to blame her parents for much of her current situation. Sources said it was possible that Amanda could get an ?LPS Hold? which would mean at least one year at a lock-down facility where she would be forcibly medicated. That?s the last we heard, that her parents were looking at her options and that Amanda?s mental health was and is so frail that a 72-hour psych hold was extended to two weeks. And now it?s been extended again:
Amanda Bynes is in such bad shape … her doctors secretly got an order from a judge that allows them to hold her for another month … TMZ has learned.
We’ve learned Amanda’s doctors asked a judge Monday for a 30-day extension to her involuntary commitment. She’s been in a psychiatric facility for the last 17 days, and if an extension wasn’t granted she would have walked out the front door yesterday.
But Amanda’s shrinks made a convincing case … she is “very ill” and in no shape to care for herself. The judge agreed to the extension.
What’s unclear … whether Amanda’s parents will go back to court to regain a conservatorship over her. Initially we were told they would seek another conservatorship, but our sources say they’ve had a change of heart. Amanda feels betrayed by them for having her committed, so controlling her would be a Herculean effort. The likely scenario is that the psychiatric hold will be extended for a long time.
[From TMZ]
Well, it?s good that her doctors were on the case and that Amanda was not released into society. I feel sad that we?re using language like ?forced? and ?lockdown? and ?without her consent? because that kind of terminology is so loaded, nevermind the fact that she is just a young woman with significant mental health issues that could conceivably be dealt with in some sort of outpatient way. I partially blame Amanda?s parents too, but not the same way she blames her parents. The parents have been in denial about her mental health issues for too long, and they spent much of the past year claiming that Amanda?s problem was merely smoking weed. It?s not the weed. I hope they realize that now.
Oh, and this was announced late last night – Amanda’s parents were granted a conservatorship for Amanda’s finances. Her parents told the judge Amanda had spent “alarming amounts of money by purchasing jewelry for strangers.” Amanda has a net worth of about $5.7 million, most of it real estate, and that she’s blown through a lot of her liquid assets in the past few months.
