Preparing to depart the Big Apple, Eva Mendes checked out of her hotel in New York City on Thursday (April 18).
The 39-year-old actress looked cute in a peach sweater, cropped black pants, and brown ankle boots as she casually walked with her hands in her pockets.
After meeting her real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling while filming the crime drama "Place Beyond the Pines," the two decided to collaborate on another project.
Written and directed by the "Notebook" star, "How to Catch a Monster" follows a single mother who is swept into a dark underworld, while her teenage son discovers a road that leads him to a secret underwater town.

A week ago, Page Six had an interesting story about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes? relationship and their behavior towards each other at the post-premiere party for The Place Beyond the Pines. Apparently, an acquaintance of Eva?s yelled out ?hey baby!? and Ryan proceeded to freak out and get in the guy?s face. Page Six also claimed that Eva and Ryan barely spoke to each other at the party. At this point, now that they?ve been together for more than a year and a half, I?m just not sure if they?re bringing out the best in each other. I feel like Eva is the one pushing this thing to work and Ryan is probably a moody bastard. I don?t know, it?s just a general sense I get and I could totally be wrong. In last week?s Us Weekly (print edition), there was this bizarre story about Ryan and Eva too:

The longtime friends have now been dating for more than a year and are ?very much in love,? says an insider.
?They don?t shout from the rooftops, but they cherish what they have.?
The duo also don?t see the need to move in together, adds the insider. ?There?s no rush. What?s his is hers already, and likewise.?
Mendes has confided to a friend that her special relationship with Gosling?s mom, Donna, is her secret weapon. ?Eva says that?s what sealed the deal with Ryan? they?re going to make it.?

Sketchy? Or just typical tabloid nonsense? Eh. I?ve always thought Eva is leaking information to the tabloids, especially when it?s Us Weekly. And I have no doubt that Eva is in good with Ryan?s mother ? I think Ryan?s mom adores Eva. I think Eva played that part beautifully, especially for a mama?s boy like Ryan. But the stuff about how they don?t really live together? You know what that reminded me of? Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel! Justin kept his LA ?bachelor pad? until they were married (and he still might have it, come to think about it) and yes, he stayed at Jessica Biel?s place a lot, but he still got to do his dude things (like screw around) in his own space. Some guys are like that ? they need/want their own cave. And it seems like Eva is making excuses for it.

These are photos of the NYC premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines, and Eva Mendes could have made an impressive turn (this is her “big star” moment, right?) in some serious fashion. Instead, she chose this long-sleeved, orange Prada dress that follows the recent orange trend, but the look as a whole is kind of awful. It doesn’t make much sense as a red-carpet ensemble for a leading lady — there’s soo much fussiness with the sheer fabric, frou-frou bodice, and holy crap, the encrusted butterfuly nonsense going on at the waist. Those shoes are really ugly too.
Overall, this is an underwhelming dress although her hair and makeup look fine. There’s no real drama here, and Eva is fully capable of bringing the drama in more ways than one. I’m not anti-Eva like many of you. She seems pretty harmless as a Hollywood player even if I can’t stomach the fact that she uses a shock collar on her dog, and she has no fashion sense of which to speak.
Ryan Gosling wore a black velvet suit that gives me the heebie jeebies. I would never be able to date a dude who wore this suit and was serious about it, but I’m not a Gosling die hard devotee. He seems so overrated and kind of full of himself, and I don’t find him physically appealing either. Maybe that’s why Eva doesn’t bother me that much.
I’m including photos of Bradley Cooper (looking like a Muppet serial killer and trying to rock the Brad Pitt World War Z hairdo) as well as Ray Liotta’s amazing Botox forehead and the revolting Terry Richardson … being revolting as usual.

Here are some photos of Eva Mendes out and about in New York this week. Eva isn?t important enough to do, like, breaking-news coverage of her street style, but I still enjoy looking through the photos. I really don?t think Eva?s street style is as great as she seems to think ? the ankle booties are unfortunate, her prints are too busy and that white dress makes her look like she?s the bride at a shotgun Texas wedding.
Eva?s been everywhere this week because she?s promoting The Place Beyond The Pines, which? I?ve seen some reviews, and they make it sound like the film is completely boring, overwrought and Lifetime-esque. So, chalk up another bad movie for Eva! This shall be one of many bad Eva Mendes films. I know it?s mean to say, but she?s really not anything special as an actress. She?s pretty, she has great hair and she?s sexy and she’s a complete dud as an actress. But in Eva?s mind, she could be just as good as Jessica Chastain, if only someone would hire her!
Eva Mendes is so jealous of Jessica Chastain?s success, she?s ordered her high-powered agent to go after the same roles, according to a Hollywood insider.
?Eva?s been almost obsessed with Jessica since she played the part of Maya in ?Zero Dark Thirty?, a role Eva wanted for herself,? a close friend told The Enquirer. Jessica won an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for the role, and now sources say Eva wants to pursue more serious parts instead of just banking on her sex appeal.
Eva, 39, is taking advice from boyfriend Ryan Gosling, who?s convinced her to chase prestigious parts that can bring her an Oscar. Since Ryan and Eva began dating in September 2011, friends say Ryan has given her a ?complex? over her career.
?I think he is very controlling and tells her he thinks she can do better,? said the friend. ?It is as if Eva lives to please Ryan and is desperate to impress him.?
To further boost her career, Eva listened to Ryan and signed on with super-agent Hylda Queally ? who also represents her rival Jessica.
?It?s no coincidence that she?s now with Hylda? aside from Jessica, Hylda looks after Cate Blanchett and Marion Cotillard, so she knows her stuff. Eva told Hylda to send her to whatever auditions Jessica attends. She?s tired of being typecast as the love interest and wants to be a leading lady. But Eva?s problem is she?s just too sexy. She?s got a real mountain to climb to really get away from bombshell roles.?

This is the same problem that I had with Jessica Alba too, remember? The ?I?m too pretty to be taken seriously as an actress? problem. There are plenty of beautiful women who manage to ?make it? as serious actresses. Many serious actresses are sexy, attractive, accessible, and enchanting. The problem isn?t that Eva Mendes (or Alba, for that matter) is ?too pretty? or ?too sexy? to be taken seriously, it?s that when they?re given the opportunity to develop their questionable talents outside of the standard, one-dimensional ?pretty girl? roles, they fail miserably. Besides that, no one forced Eva to take those ?bombshell? roles or to take modeling contracts or to play up her sex-bomb image for years and years.
As for the idea that Ryan is pushing Eva to become more of a ?serious actress?? I believe that too. Ryan seems like that kind of guy. He can?t just date a hot girl and own his superficiality (?I?m dating her because she?s beautiful and amazing in bed?), he wants to think that his girlfriend is super-talented too, and that he?s genuinely disappointed in her because she doesn?t have a career like Jessica Chastain.

Stopping by to promote her new movie, Eva Mendes filmed "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" in Manhattan on Wednesday (March 27).
The 39-year-old actress looked gorgeous in a cream sleeveless dress with leather-heeled boots while carrying a Pink jacket as she posed for photos outside the studio.
On Friday, you can catch the lovely Latina in her new movie, "The Place Beyond the Pines," with real-life boyfriend, Ryan Gosling.
However, it was another castmate that really inspired her. In an interview with Fox 411, she shared, "There's stuff that didn't make the movie but Ray Liotta really challenged me in the best way possible. I'd love to do another film with him."

Last year, I wrote what I thought was an innocuous story about Eva Mendes based on some new-at-the-time photos. I remember that day ? it was super-slow and I thought it was interesting that Eva was running errands around LA with her giant dog, but that she hadn?t put her dog on a leash, so she ended up half-choking her puppy as she walked with him from a building to her car. That whole situation was somewhat familiar to me ? I don?t take my dog out for errands without putting him on his leash (because he?s a bad dog who runs away), but I?ve had occasion to clutch my dog?s collar tightly, assuming the half-choke position, just to control his movements for a short time.
Anyway, when Eva was on The Late Show last week (sorry I?m just getting to this now, I didn?t know if I wanted to cover it), Eva talked about her Belgian Malinois Hugo and how ?All he wants to do is prove his love to me, you know, all he wants to do is kill for me. It’s so sweet.? Again, I sort of know what that?s like. My dog can be ferocious ? 100 pounds of snarling dog ? but only with, like, groundhogs and rabbits. When deer come onto my property, my dog actually cries. I?m serious. The deer upset him! So, what is Eva solution for her dog?s killer instinct? She told Dave, ?I’d feel terrible if he hurt a little thing so I try to get in there and I use — people always get mad at me for this — but I use a shock collar on him? And I have the remote. Even though I hate wearing makeup, I?m still kind of curious about it. I?m particularly curious about the foundation and concealers that are designed specifically for HD (high-def) cameras, like the kind of makeup actors and actresses use when they know they?re going to be on camera. I?ve heard that while the makeup is designed to look natural on-camera, if you caught sight of the person in real life, the makeup would look rough.
I?m reminded of this while I looked through these Eva Mendes photos. She was spotted at LAX yesterday, looking a bit like Carmen Sandiego. The Daily Mail is making a big deal about Eva ?overdoing? the concealer, but I wonder? maybe her makeup was designed for something else, and the flash of the paparazzo?s camera just makes her look so weird? I?m not even convinced that she?s wearing that much makeup honestly.
Meanwhile, did you hear that Eva?s boyfriend Ryan Gosling just cast her in his directorial debut, How To Catch a Monster? It?s true. Ryan wrote the screenplay and he?ll begin filming shortly. She joins a cast that will likely include Matt Smith (Dr. Who), Christina Hendricks and Ben Mendelsohn. Eva will be playing a character named ?Cat? who is a member of a gang called ?the Big Bad Wolf Club?. You can read more about the plot here. Um? I?m worried. Not so much about Eva, but about Ryan. I?m not sure this will turn out to be his best career move. But I?ll hold off on judging for now. As for casting your girlfriend in your movie? that says a lot! I?m telling you, I wouldn?t be surprised at all if Eva nails this thing down with a pregnancy.
