Ten years ago, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were finishing the first phase of filming for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They would spend the summer apart (as Angelina traveled around with Maddox, while Brad filmed Oceans 12 in Europe while Jennifer Aniston came along for the ride), then return to LA in the Fall of 2004 to complete filming on MAMS. That film changed everything, at least gossip-wise. It was also the biggest film of both of their careers at that point ? it made the most money, it debuted at #1, and it was a well-needed hit for both of them. But it also made them a couple.
Ten years later? they?re still together, they?ve got six kids, they?ve accumulated Oscars and other blockbuster films and they?ve managed to do it all without ever working (on screen) together ever again. Unless you count A Mighty Heart, which Brad produced and Angelina starred in. They were supposed to do Ridley Scott?s The Counselor together, but Angelina dropped out (probably because she was undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery). Still, it?s unusual that they haven?t managed to find a project that they could do together in all this time. So, of course, Angelina wrote something for both of them.
Here is a film that instantly becomes the one every studio will want on their slate. Angelina Jolie is in early talks to star with Brad Pitt in an original script that she has written. It?s in the early talking stages and nothing is solidified, but I hear it?s happening. I don?t know a lot more at this point.
The film hasn?t locked distribution, but it will team Jolie and Pitt together for the first time since 2005?s Mr. And Mrs. Smith. That film displayed an intense chemistry onscreen, and this was before they became a couple offscreen. Jolie is working on post-production on Unbroken, the adaptation she directed of the Laura Hillenbrand book. Universal has set a December 25 release for the harrowing survival tale of Olympic track prodigy-turned-WWII POW Lou Zamperini. It?s expected to be right in the Oscar mix. Unbroken was a hotly contested directing project, and Jolie won the job with a presentation that wowed the studio, where Donna Langley also was very impressed with her directorial debut, In The Land Of Blood And Honey. She next stars in Disney?s Maleficent, which opens May 30 with Jolie playing the title character in the revisionist version of the fairy tale.
Will reveal more when I know it. Pitt is coming off 12 Years A Slave and most recently wrapped the David Ayer-directed WWII tank movie Fury, which QED produced and Sony is releasing. Stay tuned. She is repped by UTA and Media Talent Group Pitt by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment.

I need to know the plot. Is it a romance? A comedy? Doubtful. While I polish my Brangeloonie badges regularly, I don?t think it?s a Brangeloonie Catastrophe to suggest that Angelina probably can?t write comedies. So, it?s probably a drama, maybe something with some romance. Maybe it?s about war and refugees and?? God knows. But I am glad that they?re going to work together again. It?s sweet.

I?m including some newer posters for Maleficent in this post, in case you missed them. Maleficent is due for a wide release on May 30th ? less than two months away. I?m expecting Disney to spare no expense in promoting the film, and I?m expecting that Angelina Jolie (and the entire Jolie-Pitt family) will be on full promotional mode, especially in May. Is it too much to hope that Angelina and Brad will be at Cannes for a non-competition premiere of Maleficent? Please? That would make me so happy, and it feels like something that really could happen. Angelina has gone to Cannes before to promote kids? movies without having anything in competition.
Anyway, there are rumors. Bad rumors. Rumors that Disney analysts and other industry professionals are worried that Maleficent won?t be able to find an audience. Apparently, analysts think Maleficent is just too terrifying for little kids, and that tweens won?t want to see it:
Disney?s dark fantasy film, ?Maleficent,? starring Angelina Jolie as the title villainess, may be too dark and scary to be profitable, one Wall Street analyst wrote in a report on Monday.
The $130-million-budget movie, which tells the ?Sleeping Beauty? tale from the perspective of the evil Maleficent, is set to debut May 30 and will likely result in Disney being forced into a write-down, Wells Fargo?s Marci Ryvicker wrote in a report.
?[E]xpectations for a ?Maleficent? write-off seem relatively widespread,? she wrote.
With more than eight weeks to go before ?Maleficent? unspools, few on Wall Street are ready to take such a bold stance.
?It?s definitely in the ?not a sure thing? bucket,? a second analyst said of the re-imagined fairy tale. RBC Capital?s David Bank is penciling in a total US haul of $150 million.
The movie appears to be pitched at young adults rather than at the more traditional audience for a Disney princess movie: small children.
Jolie appears in the movie with enhanced sharp high cheekbones and headgear with horns. The actress struck a deal with fashion designer Stella McCartney to create a capsule collection for children aged 4 to 14 based on the movie.
It?s hard to deny strong interest in the movie ? or perhaps simply Jolie. An official trailer posted March 18 has gained 4 million views on YouTube. A January trailer garnered 13 million views. ?Maleficent? has 1.8 million Facebook fans, more than any other non-franchise film with a 2014 release date, according to Jason Klein, co-CEO and founder of Listen First Media. Whether that translates into a big box-office number is anyone?s guess.
A write-down, while very much an open question, could slow the momentum of Disney, whose ?Frozen? last week became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

Obviously, I?ve been wrong many, many times before about what?s going to be a hit and what?s going to bomb. A recent example: I really thought Noah was going to bomb. How did it NOT bomb? All of the elements were there for that film to be a car crash, but it didn?t happen. So, I have no idea what will happen with Maleficent. I think there?s a lot of interest in it and I think it?s amazing to think that this is Angelina?s first time in front of a camera since 2010.
I have another theory ? this might be part of a ?tamping down expectations so those lowered expectations can be blown away? strategy. Lots of studios do that these days ? they get some analysts to low-ball the estimates so the studio heads can later say, ?Wow, we beat our own estimates, we?re got a crazy-successful hit on our hands!?
Also? yes, Angelina is probably going to frighten children. I can?t wait! LA JOLIE DRAGON.

Several years ago, Angelina Jolie did a photoshoot with Vanity Fair where she wore something like hot pants, revealing her toned thighs. That was notable, but even more so because there seemed to be a never-before-seen tattoo on her right inner thigh. There were some conspiracies and long story short, the Brangeloonies believe that Angelina?s thigh tattoo reads ?Whiskey Bravo.? As in, W-B for William Bradley (Pitt). So, it would seem that Angelina already has Brad inked on her body in a significant (and charming) way. But Radar?s sources think Angelina and Brad are going to get more significant ink ahead of their wedding:
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are getting matching tattoos for their upcoming wedding, Radar has learned. The superstar couple are deciding ?with what and where they will ink themselves to mark their long-awaited marriage,? a source told Radar.
?Brad really wants to do something special, and frankly, a little weird to mark the occasion, and they want to get the exact same design, in the exact same spot in their bodies.?
Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 38, share a love of body art, but according to the source, the actor?s fascination with tattoos ?took a big leap? once they finally got engaged in 2012.
?Brad is like a teenager again as he and Angelina decide on their matching tattoos,? the source said. ?He?s let Angelina help him pick out tatts in the past but this time it?s a real collaboration. Don?t expect it to be something that?s visible when they?re out day to day. They might just acknowledge to the press that they did it, but keep the actual content of the tattoos as their love secret.?
The 12 Years a Slave actor and producer reportedly has at least nine tattoos, including one of Oetzi the Ice Age caveman on his left arm and Jolie?s birth date in written in Khmer on his stomach.
Jolie has more than a dozen examples of body art, including the geographical coordinates of their six children and a tiger tattoo on her lower back.
Pitt has begun bringing tattoo magazines into his Los Angeles office, ?and leaving them in the lobby when he?s done with them, just so he can see if any designs capture visitors? imaginations,? the source said.

What I?ve always liked about Angelina?s ink in particular is that she generally puts some thought into it and ? especially over the past eight years or so ? she?s gotten ink that is really significant to her, like her children?s birth coordinates or the ?M? tattoo (which is probably for her mom and/or Maddox) or the Whiskey Bravo tatt, which I still think is super-cute. Brad?s tattoos are blah? so I hope he doesn?t get to pick them. He should just let Angelina choose.

As I promised yesterday, here are some photos of Angelina Jolie and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague during their day-and-a-half long trip to Sarajevo, Zenica and Potocari. Jolie and Hague had a lot on their docket after they left London (where Hague had a drinks reception for Jolie, then a private dinner, then he took her to Downing Street for breakfast). Jolie and Hague flew in to Bosnia last Thursday, where they met with Bosnian leaders, rape survivors, and the NGO workers who try to find justice for those survivors. This was all part of Hague and Jolie?s years-long campaign to put a renewed focus on warzone rape. Here?s more from The Guardian:
Angelina Jolie has paid tribute to the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre after urging the international community to stop the use of sexual violence as a war weapon. Jolie was accompanied by the British foreign secretary, William Hague, while on a trip to Bosnia. At the Srebrenica memorial centre museum, Jolie and Hague met women who were raped during Bosnia’s 1992-95 war, as well as women whose beloved ones were killed in the massacre.
Dressed in black, with a black headscarf to respect customs of Muslim women when they go at a cemetery, Jolie laid a wreath in front of a stone monument for the victims. She then walked alongside a wall on which the names of more than 8,000 people who were killed are written.
After capturing Srebrenica on 11 July 1995, Serb forces executed more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys. More than 6,000 massacre victims, whose remains were found in mass graves, were laid to rest at a memorial cemetery in the town.
Earlier on Friday, Jolie and Hague took part at a conference in the Bosnian capital on sexual violence in war, organised by the Balkan country’s defence ministry. Jolie, whose 2011 directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey dealt with violence against women during Bosnia’s war, urged peace missions around the world to make combatting sex crimes a priority.
“The use of rape as a weapon of war is one of the most harrowing and savage of these crimes against civilians,” Jolie told the conference. “This is rape so brutal, with such extreme violence, that it is even hard to talk about it,” said the 38-year-old, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).
Jolie and Hague are due to co-host a high-profile summit on the same topic in London in June, which is expected to be the largest ever gathering of its kind, according to the British foreign minister. Hague said that today “sexual violence is used deliberately as a weapon of war” in the conflicts in Syria, Central African Republic and South Sudan. He said: “I hope we can all work together to prevent the horrors seen in this region from being repeated in future conflicts anywhere in the world.”
About 20,000 women, mostly Muslim, were raped during Bosnia’s inter-ethnic war in the 1990s, according to local estimates. So far only 33 people have been convicted for the crimes by local courts and 30 by a UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Jolie and Hague were also there to praise Bosnia?s new initiative to include sexual violence prevention training in Bosnian military training (which, frankly, America needs to do as well). Angelina cried during some of the meetings they had, so it?s nice that her new boyfriend was there to comfort her. You know I?m only joking, but I do wonder what Brad thinks of Angelina?s close friendship with a man like William Hague. I also kind of wonder what Hague?s wife thinks too.

I know I?m a broken record on this, but I love Zahara Jolie-Pitt?s style. I love how she puts together her ensembles. I love that she?s not afraid of color, that she favors pinks and purples and teals, that she loves a good animal print or, failing that, something with an actual animal on it. I love that she cares about her footwear. And I?m into the fact that she digs sparkly Hello Kitty stuff.
Anyway, these are new photos of Angelina Jolie, Zahara and Maddox at LAX on Saturday. They flew in from London. Angelina must have left them in London while she and William Hague flew to Sarajevo for their awareness-raising campaign to end warzone rape and sexual violence. Incidentally, we have some new photos of Angelina and Hague in Bosnia too, which I?ll cover in a separate post tomorrow. Those photos are pretty dark ? Angelina is crying in several of them, because she had been meeting with rape survivors. So, let?s hold off on them for another day, OK?
Right now I just want to look at these cute photos. Seriously, why can?t Zahara dress her mom? Angelina is basically wearing an oversized poncho, proving yet again that her style always defaults to ?SACK.? You know what amuses me though? Look at the way Maddox is dressed ? that?s how Angelina used to dress when she was in her early 20s. Maddox is the one who got his mom?s style (and Shiloh got Brad’s style). Maybe Maddox?ll grow into a love of sacks as well. Last thing: good God, Maddox has gotten tall!

Angelina Jolie is on the move! Again. Angelina flew to London Wednesday, then she flew to Sarajevo with British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Thursday. Hague and Jolie are BFFs at this point ? he seems to be a full-on Angeloonie and she?s always flying out to support their shared interests. They?ve traveled to Africa together, and he invited her to speak at the G8 summit last year too. Hague has cited Angelina?s film In the Land of Blood and Honey as a catalyst for his awareness campaign to end warzone rape and sexual assault.
Apparently, Hague invited Angelina to a ?drinks reception? at the foreign office in London Wednesday evening, followed by dinner (romantic!), followed by breakfast at 10 Downing Street (with Prime Minister David Cameron?!?). Apparently, Hague arranged for a six-motorbike police escort to Downing Street and they even closed off the street for her, which they usually only do for, like, the Queen and an American president. Wow, William Hague knows how to impress a lady, doesn?t he? I?m only half joking, probably because I know the headlines are coming: ?Angelina in intimate tte--tte with British diplomat, Brad Pitt cries.? After the breakfast with the prime minister (rowr), Hague and Angelina flew to Sarajevo together. Damn. I bet it was a government plane too. Do you think they sat side-by-side? Or did they sit across from each other so he could stare into her hypnotic eyes as he poured her a glass of champagne?
Once they arrived in Sarajevo, a champagne-buzzed (joking) Angelina and William met survivors of sexual violence and some NGO workers trying to help those survivors seek justice. The point of this whole multi-day excursion was to bring awareness to the ?huge backlog of sexual violence cases? in Sarajevo (and, I would imagine, at the International Criminal Court).
Hague and Jolie will reunite once more in June when she co-chairs a summit in London focusing on ending warzone rape. Hague will try to make his move once again. Brad who?

Here are some photos of Angelina Jolie looking angelic in Las Vegas. Who ? besides Angelina ? is capable of looking this angelic in the city of sin? Also: this is the most sack-dressy trouser suit I?ve ever seen on anyone younger than 70. Seriously, this looks like a costume from the Golden Girls (which makes me love her even more).
Angelina was in Vegas to do some early pushing for Unbroken ? she gave a speech at CinemaCon for ?The State of the Industry: Past, Present and Future and Universal Studios Presentation.? I don?t know if she screened any footage from the film or not, but? it?s still very early. Unbroken won?t be released until December. There?s plenty of time, and I doubt Angelina is even halfway through editing the film anyway.
Angelina did talk about her boyfriend Louis Zamperini during the speech, and how his story inspired her: ?I wanted to make this film because in the end its message is one that we all need now more than ever. It?s the journey of man finding his way through the darkness and into the light.? Lord? is there anyone better at the Art of the Hustle? Angelina makes it seem so effortless. She doesn?t have any angst about promoting her work ? she only works on projects she believes in, and when she?s on the promotional trail, there is no one better.

Yay, a new Angelina Jolie interview! CB sent this to me ? apparently, Angelina gave another new, exclusive interview, this time to Hello Magazine. These quotes sound new to me, although Angelina did talk about some of the same old things in a few places. But the stuff about Brad sounds particularly interesting. Hello got all up in her relationship with Brad and to her credit, Angelina answered all of those questions and then some. Some highlights from the interview:
She can?t do it without Brad: ?He?s always encouraging me and willing to assume a lot of parental responsibilities. When I had the twins, it was very exhausting but Brad just stepped right in and made sure that the other children were getting their breakfast and going off to school on time. He loves being a father. That?s one thing I?m most proud of about him.?
Brad with the boys: ?With a large family, you need that support. But it?s much more than that. Brad?s such a wonderful teacher and guide for the boys. He?s always had this special bond with Mad, which has really been important to Mad. He has grown up fast and started to show how much he has learned about the world.?
Comparing her personality to Brad?s: ?Brad likes to plan things and proceed in a very deliberate and methodical way. That?s why he has been successful as a producer. He learns as much as he can about a project and what needs to be done and then he makes sure things run as smoothly as possible. He likes to be able to get things done properly. He?s much cooler and calmer, whereas I can be more impulsive and outspoken. But these different qualities bring us closer together and it?s beautiful to find a partner who balances you like that. It?s very reassuring to know there?s this very solid, generous man in your life.?
Balancing alone time with mom time: ?You get used to having this huge commotion around you. I?d always been the kind of person who enjoyed being alone but once our family grew larger I discovered that I?m truly happy surrounded by the children. I let them come in when I?m taking a bath of lying down on the sofa or the bed. Sure, you might enjoy moments by yourself but then you feel so much joy when your children jump around and want you to play with them or to see what they?ve drawn or listen to something they want to tell you. It has been surprising to me how much I love all those moments.
Alone-time with Brad: ?You learn to reserve certain nights either to go out or just be together without the kids. All couples need to make time for that and even though it can be tough with six kids ? especially after I had the twins ? things have settled into a more natural rhythm.?

?He loves being a father. That?s one thing I?m most proud of about him.? That?s awkwardly worded, but I get her point. She?s happy and proud that she ended up with such a stand-up guy and a family man who enjoys being a dad. Although I?m hesitant to give Brad a gold star for, you know, just being a hands on dad who feeds his children and makes sure the nannies take them to school. I get that Angelina is trying to praise him and acknowledge the support he?s given to her emotionally, but it also feels like? oh, how special, Brad loves his children. Breaking news!
Angelina also lied a little bit when she was asked point-blank about how, last fall, Brad was in England working on Fury while she was working on Unbroken in Australia. Angelina did her same line, the one she always uses: ?Brad and I never work at the same time and always take many months off when we?re at home with the kids.? I mean, it?s not the end of the world or anything that they were both working on separate continents for several months, but I would have expected her to acknowledge it rather than just give the same old talking point.

To do some early promotion on Maleficent, Angelina Jolie gave a lengthy interview to Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, but she also gave a short little interview to USA Today specifically to promote the new teaser in which we get to see Maleficent?s magnificent wings. To film the stuff where Angelina is flying around, Angelina was obviously rigged up on wires (controversial theory: maybe she can fly in real life?!). To do all of the wire work, Angelina had to get stronger. Which is why we get this wonderful confession:
?Angelina Jolie reveals what it was like to fly with her wings in in the classic tale’s reboot ? and the workout she begrudgingly agreed to. Hooked up on rigs in full costume (yes, even those horns) on set at Pinewood Studios, “you’re almost like a puppet with all these people moving (beneath you),” says Jolie. “When you go to the left or the right all of you have to move together. It’s a big dance with a lot of people.”
How did she pull it off? Well, through a regimen Jolie admits she eschews. Jolie’s longtime stunt coordinator Eunice Huthart (a close friend, who is also godmother to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt) slowed down and intensified her workouts. “She made me do yoga. And I have no patience for yoga,” says Jolie. “It’s not something I do easily, because I’m not a still person. But I was forced to do yoga because (to fly) you have to have your core strength to be able to hold yourself.”

I feel like Angelina is aware enough to know that Jennifer Aniston is all about yoga and that Aniston talks about her love of yoga in pretty much every interview. Do you think that entered into Angelina?s thought process at all here? ?I have no patience for yoga.? I can see that. I bet Angelina would prefer to box, lift weights and maybe do some martial arts. That seems more her style.

Entertainment Weekly published the full Angelina Jolie cover story/Q&A online a few days ago, and I would recommend it to every Brangeloonie who loves to obsess over every little Jolie detail. It?s actually a really nice Q&A and you can tell that the interviewer (Anthony Breznican) was fan-girling like crazy over Angelina (who wouldn?t?). Angelina and Anthony actually do a fist-bump at one point. Fist-bump and an explosion. Angelina fist-bumps. This is news to me! You can read the full Q&A here (it?s lengthy), and here are some more highlights:
Malficent?s darkness: ?She has a darkness. And how do you make a film about someone who curses a baby and make them relatable? It?s like the worst thing you could possibly do! But I think the script that Linda [Woolverton (The Lion King)] wrote, has quite a deep understanding. The exercise wasn?t how can we have fun with a villain? It was: what turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel. What could have possibly happened to her that would get her to that moment in the christening? She wasn?t invited, so she?s pissed off??
Malficent?s elegance: ?Maleficent was always so elegant. She always was in control. And to play her was difficult. I worked on my voice a lot. She?s bigger than me. She?s on a different level of performance that I have never done. She?s very still. She?s very sure of herself, but I couldn?t figure out her voice, I kept playing with these different types of British voices, making my voice darker and scarier. I was giving my kids a bath, and I started making up other stories about Maleficent ? and they weren?t really paying attention to me, as children often do. You can bore them to death, until I started to mess around with this playful [sing-songy] voice.
On Elle Fanning (she plays Aurora): ?I think she is magic. You can?t take your eyes off her on screen. I?d like to think that I?m a calm and sweet person. I tend to be very playful at home with my children, but in life ? we have to fight our battles. Our work battles, our political battles, our personal battles, and we?re focused. So I tend to be someone who can be very private and in my space, not in any way trying to be rude, that?s just how I walk my way though life. When I?m outside my home, I can be somewhat serious. Elle, the first time we met each other, she ran across the hallway and hugged me and jumped on me and we joked later like it was like being attacked by a thousand cute gorgeous bunnies. I was just frozen. I never had someone see me like that. When she sees me, I?m like a mom, a friend, a girl, and she just wants to be another girl. She?s just full of love and happiness and cuteness and belief and sweetness and when I was her age, I was the complete polar opposite ? quite dark at that age. So, it?s kind of a perfect match. It?s a part of the film that?s interesting, the struggle to deal with this light and love that she is, because Aurora is so strong in her light that it?s a difficult thing to fight. I adore her.?
The awkward horns: ?It was pretty funny, because I kept on hitting my horns on things, the framing was very strange. They were actually kind of heavy. There had to be [lighter weight] ones that you could ride horses in because if you fall with something [heavy] attached to your head, that?s it ? it could break your neck. There were softer horns for the fights. The harder ones were magnetic so I could actually clip them off and walk around, but then I looked like a little bear. It did not look half as cool. When they weren?t the magnetic ones, I did almost knock myself out quite a few times. It?s not just that you?re a foot taller on top, you?re also in five-inch heels so you are really big. I was out of whack for a bit. Definitely, it took me a while to become graceful with her.?
What Brad thought of Maleficent: ?I don?t know! You know, I never asked him. He thinks she?s cool. I loved being Maleficent. I was quite sad to put my staff down and put my horns away because somehow, she just lives in a different world. But I did have to take my staff home to practice walking with it in my cloak, and then I would go outside and scream at the bushes to expand my voice and play with my voice. So, mom was a bit nutso for a period.?
She?s due to have one more surgery: ?There?s still another surgery to have, which I haven?t yet. [Jolie is also genetically at risk for ovarian cancer, which is what took her mother?s life at age 56] I?ll, you know, I?ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I?ve been talking to, to get through that next stage.?

Angelina was also asked about her haters and Hater Culture in general, and she gave a lengthy and interesting answer. She basically said that she doesn?t pay attention to any of it (I don?t believe that) but that if you mean well and your ?choices come from an honest place,? everything will be fine in the end. Then she says that there?s real hate and inhumanity in the world that she sees all the time and she basically doesn?t have time for all of this high school BS.
Does anyone else love the idea of Angelina bringing Maleficent?s staff home so she could practice walking with it while doing that crazy voice? Also: Elle Fanning is now a Jolie-Pitt, basically. Angelina approves! Elle ?jumped on me and we joked later like it was like being attacked by a thousand cute gorgeous bunnies.? That?s so funny.
