Getting back to her formative years, Katy Perry showed up at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, California for a very special performance on Friday morning (October 25).
The ?I Kissed a Girl? songstress sang ?Roar? as part of a live broadcast on ?Good Morning America,? as well as ?Walking on Air,? and ?Firework.?
Perry chose Lakewood for her morning concert after they won her ?Roar? contest- a competition for high schools to show their spirit by lip-synching to the single and submitting a video.
As an added bonus, Katy was celebrating her birthday! She told Sam Champion, "I'm 29 and I feel great! I still feel like I'm 13 sometimes. Obviously, you can tell by my music and my spirit!"

Her brand new album Prism hit stores yesterday, and last night (October 22) Katy Perry celebrated with a very special shindig in Los Angeles.
The ?Roar? singer joined host Mario Lopez on stage at the iHeartRadio album release party, and during her interview she made some interesting admissions.
When asked what she keeps in her purse, Katy confessed, ?The first time I was at the Grammys, I shared a dressing room with Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift
Tea Leoni. I asked for a lock of hair from each. I put little bows around them and put them in my empty purse and carried it around with me. That was really creepy, but awesome. And that?s my secret. And I?m a freak.?
And it turns out, the ?Hannah Montana? actress? digits are the most high-profile in Katy?s phone. ?She?s the most famous person in the world right now.?

Katy Perry’s abundant rack covers the November issue of W magazine to promote this week’s Prism release. The album will do very well, and most of us won’t understand why even it’s selling so well — even though “Roar” is growing in earworm status for all of us. W crowned Katy as “America’s biggest export” who “sings the language of sex and empowerment.” This is certainly a strange declaration about a pop star who recently stated how she’s “always getting kicked and rising from the ashes or something.”
Even though Katy is an empty vessel as a subject, this photoshoot is strangely mesmerizing. I don’t like sweaters (too itchy) or Pink (too stereotypical), but I kind of love how Katy is wearing this Pink sweater.
Not to mention this particular sweater. Katy looks so glamorous here. Let’s do some excerpts, shall we?
On the meaning of “Roar”: “I do love a good innuendo. Mom and Dad know what this song means, but just sing along, kids–you won’t know what these lyrics are about for another 10 years. This song is about sticking up for yourself. People talk about bullying, but you can be your own bully in some ways. You can be the person who is standing in the way of your success, and that was the case for me. I was having a great professional streak, but personally, I was really immature, so I had to balance those things out.”
“Roar” is about Rusty: “If you are not happy with something, you should change it. So I went to a lot of therapy, and finally, I am able to speak up for myself: You are going to hear me roar!”
Her favorite song ever: “‘Killer Queen,’ by Queen. I was 15. Of course, I had heard music before that, but nothing had really struck a chord with me until that song. I was hanging out with my friend Morgan in Santa Barbara, my hometown. We were over at her house–she was that friend, the one that you idolize and maybe even have a weird obsession-slash-crush on. We were standing on her bed, wearing her clothes–because her clothes were cooler–and she put on ‘Killer Queen.’ My world froze. It was a very cinematic feeling, and it opened up this lyrical world.”
Her own teenage style: “My style icons were Gwen Stefani, when she was in No Doubt, and then Shirley Manson in Garbage.”
Is she religious now? “I try and keep my connection with the G-O-D or with a power that’s bigger than me. It?s important–otherwise, you don?t have any kind of accountability. If you think, Hey, at the end of it all I am just going to be dust, or I have no soul or whatever, why not just be a menace to society? For me, accountability works.”
On her early record-contract days: “Yes. I was a little entitled, a little bratty. I was living in Beverly Hills, and a big famous producer had taken me under his wing. I was getting a monthly allowance–I had a Louis Vuitton key chain for my Jetta! I thought I was the bee?s knees. But it didn?t last: I got dropped from my record label. And the Jetta was impounded. And I couldn?t pay my bills. I suddenly heard no more often than yes. As cheesy as it sounds, the rejection built a lot of character in me. It takes strength to stick around in this business. And I have always been highly ambitious.”
Does she want to be a movie star? “Yes, but I hate mornings. So I told some executives who had asked me whether I wanted to act that if you want to start shooting at 11 a.m., then I?m your girl. Otherwise, I?m not interested. I live a rock-star kind of life where I don?t go to bed until 4 a.m. I?m very nocturnal. But I always say that if Ridley Scott wants to hire me for Blade Runner 2 to play Rachael, I am absolutely available.”
What movie makes her cry? “The Notebook. And Titanic. And I always cry on planes. My boyfriend [John Mayer] and I call them ‘deprivation tubes’: You have a glass of wine, and you?re watching a movie, and then, wahhhh.”
Who’s her crush? “I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time, and it just so happens we fit together great.”
Did she like being married? “Of course. I really loved it. It was a new, fun, exciting journey. But I like how I am now, and I think all things happen for a reason.”

OMG, Katy actually named John Mayer as her crush in this interview. What a way to feed into the douche ego. Dare I say that Katy could do a lot better than John Mayer? Yeah I said it. Katy deserves a lot better than him, but it is excellent news that she doesn’t really want to be a movie star as previously reported.

Here is Katy Perry leaving London’s Shoreditch House on Sunday night. She dressed up for a night of clubbing in a black corset, sparkly skirt and thigh high boots.
Katy was celebrating her successful performance on The X Factor results show earlier on Sunday and was joined by her pal Anna and boyfriend John Mayer as they partied into the early hours of Monday morning.

Stepping out for a swanky date night, Katy Perry and John Mayer visited Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in Chelsea, London on Friday (October 18).
The "Roar" singer looked pretty in a pale Pink knee-length dress and matching purse while her man suited up for the occasion.
Currently, the 28-year-old pop star's upcoming album, PRISM, is being streamed in full on her official website.
Stoked for the release, Katy tweeted, "I'm really excited to share these songs with you all...I'm so proud of them. Will u let me know what u think & how they make u feel please?" PRISM hits record stores on October 22nd.

Showing some love to her English fans, Katy Perry headed over to The London Studios on Thursday evening (October 17) in London, England.
The ?I Kissed a Girl? singer looked gorgeous in a silver and black patterned floor-length dress and matching black boots as she joined fellow guests Paul McCartney, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and James Corden on ?The Graham Norton Show.?
Katy has been a busy lady as of late given that her new album Prism is slated to drop this Tuesday, October 22nd.
Ms. Perry is also celebrating her new gig with CoverGirl cosmetics- she tweeted, ?BEAUTIFUL news to share w/you all. Today is my 1st day as a @COVERGIRL! See what happens when you let the light in? #COVERGIRLKATY.?

This is Katy Perry’s new ad for Cover Girl. It’s very pretty, right? She may be airbrushed to hell, but she does look quite natural and ethereal in this photo. At least she looks a lot less orange than she does in her “Roar” video. God, so much orange.
I think right now we should all be a little bit grateful for Katy. She may be total pop tart, but her new Prism album comes out next week. I’m interested to see whether or not she will dethrone Miley’s Bangerz from the top of all those charts. I bet Miley is worried about it. Katy’s gimmicks might be annoying in their own way, but at least she’s not selling records with cheap nudity and her tongue.
With her release in sight, Katy is hustling something fierce. Just when I think she’s thrown Russell Brand as far under the bus as far as she can, she goes a little further. Most recently, Katy talked about how Russell’s divorce filing made her suicidal. Now she’s talking up the “higher power” that saved her from the depths of Rusty despair:
Katy Perry says a “higher power” saved her from depression.
The 28-year-old singer believes something helped guide her in the right direction when she was overwhelmed and heartbroken. And she credits this force with changing her life for the better.
“Everybody asked me how I got through that and I would say my friends, working out, vitamins and supplements,” Katy told Entertainment Tonight. “But I think there was just a higher energy, a higher power that was helping shoot me in the right direction. In a more positive direction.”
Katy admitted she was plagued by suicidal thoughts following the end of her 14-month marriage to Russell Brand in December 2011. Russell allegedly broke up with Katy via text message, and she poured her feelings of betrayal and hurt into new album Prism.
“I came out of a small depression by writing this record,” Katy revealed. “A song called By The Grace of God, which is a very vulnerable song, you know. One line talks about me laying on the bathroom floor, looking in the mirror and deciding to stay. You don’t have to really read between the lines of, kind of heavy material there. It’s one of the darkest songs on the record.”
Katy goes on to explain that despite her immense pain and suffering, she is a survivor. She also insists that despite the hardship she endured, it taught her about herself. Katy revealed the experience made her self-reliant and strong.
“I did a lot of self-reflection and that relates to Prism in some ways,” said Katy. “I did a lot of self-reflection in spring of this year and this is where a lot of the songs from Prism came from. I kind of just did a lot of work on myself and gave myself some time and healed up some spots that needed to be healed, and did a lot of self-therapy.
“That seems to be the theme for me… of always getting kicked but coming back up, rising from the ashes or something.”

I sort of get it. Not really, but I see how Katy has marketed herself as the effervescent woman, the “Firecracker” who shines no matter what happens. She threatened to go dark with this album but thought better of it. This interview is just Katy using her evangelical background to talk up her latest girl-power anthems.
The funny thing is … Katy has no intention of giving up the bad boys who inevitably do her wrong. The Mail claims to have inside word that marriage will happen between Katy and John Mayer: “Everyone knows it’s just a question of when John will propose.” God, that is going to be such a disaster.

I’ll be totally honest and admit to writing about this topic because I wanted an excuse to talk about Katy Perry’s various outfits at Paris Fashion Week. All of these outfits (except for the one above, which I like) are pretty awful. Katy seems to favor warring doily patterns and unflattering Pink numbers now. I know, I should just be happy that her booty isn’t hanging out like it was last year. I like how she makes Karl Lagerfeld laugh. Who knew that was possible?
