At last night’s NARM Music Biz Awards, Katy Perry (who won the “Artist of the Year” award) decided to go for the gothy, hardcore look that she also tried to pull off (with slightly more success) during Paris Fashion Week. Katy donned a black, sheer-panelled dress that looked fine on her body, but it just wasn’t Katy at all, and dark lipstick is nothing that she should attempt ever again. Perhaps I’m being too cruel here, but this look is suspicious to me in light of Katy’s recent declaration that “my music is about get real f&#*ing dark.“ So Katy’s look is very calculated here, but I guess that’s par for the Perry course.
Now I might have liked this dress a little bit more if it had ended as a miniskirt and dispensed with all of the panelling underneath. Katy could’ve actually rocked this look with a much shorter skirt and an updo. Instead, Katy looks like a slutty, pop-tart version of Morticia Adams who just colored her own hair in the high-school locker room.
Even Katy’s studded Louboutin heels fit the ill-advised, faux-gothy theme of the night.
In this closeup, you can really see how little Katy’s plum-colored hair compliments her coloring. She really needs to go back to black hair, but even the blue was preferable to this.
Lisa Marie Presley showed up (in pants?) with her husband, Michael Lockwood. His hair is shorter now and looks much less “Tom Petty” these days. She’s still got the best bitchface in the business.
Brandy Norwood was there too and wearing an uncomfortable looking little black number. She’s got such a hot body, but the hair is a little bit too much for the entire ensemble.
Here’s Haley Reinhart (she was one of the top three on “American Idol,” season 10) in a kicky little dress. She must have thought she was attending the CMAs.

Katy Perry was at Coachella again for the second weekend in a row, and she had a new “boyfriend” in tow. I put that word in quotes because it seems far too soon for Katy to actually have a boyfriend. Not that she shouldn’t move on after her divorce — Russell Brand certainly has done so with several women already — but this dude wasn’t even around with Katy during last weekend’s Coachella jaunt. Also, one would think that Katy would be reluctant to hook up with anyone after Baptiste Giabiconi tried to get with her for her musical connections, right? Now it seems that Katy is already dating another relative unknown, and they were photographed holding hands and embracing all over during the weekend’s festivities. This guy’s name is Robert Ackroyd (no relation to Dan), and he functions as the guitarist and backing vocalist for the London-based Florence + the Machine. So Katy’s getting with another English dude, and he’s very … tall:
Love is in the air AGAIN for Katy Perry!
Life & Style can exclusively reveal that the pop songstress is dating Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd.
“Backstage at the Artist Lounge at Coachella last weekend, Katy kept saying her boyfriend was the guitar player for Florence + the Machine,” a source tells Life & Style. “She and a bunch of friends were supposed to go see Dr. Dre together, but Katy said she was waiting to watch her boyfriend perform!”
And it seemed that they couldn’t get enough of each other at the music festival — the two were spotted holding hands (see photo above) while they watched Katy’s BFF, Rihanna, perform during Calvin Harris’ set on April 15. Days later, Robert even started following Katy on Twitter.
He also referred to her by her initials in a Tweet on April 17, writing: “Best Coachella ever. Scratch that, best weekend ever. Dre, Snoop, Pac, Nate, Fiddy & KP.”
This relationship comes nearly four months after a judge granted a divorce to Katy and Russell Brand. It becomes final in July after the six-month waiting period required by California law.
Since her split from Russell, Katy has also been linked to French model Baptiste Giabiconi.

So what should we make of Katy’s new man? He’s very bland looking but has a decent body. He’s also an up-and-coming musician, which sends out warning flags that he could be interested in Katy for reasons other than mere romance. Hopefully, she’s aware of this potential (since she considers fame to be so disgusting) and will keep this guy in line. Of course, I’ve described Robert as a “relative unknown,” but that only applies on this side of the pond. In the UK, Florence + the Machine has enjoyed much Top 40 success with their two albums. Maybe this guy really digs her and isn’t just looking for stateside publicity. It must suck for Katy to have to worry about being used like that when moving on from a divorce, but maybe I’m mistaking her for the type to dwell upon that sort of thing. What really bugs me though is that this guy doesn’t wear socks with his Nike sneakers.
Let’s talk about Katy’s outfit for a moment, not that it really matters. This midriff-baring number is okay, and Katy certainly has the figure to pull it off. She also looked slightly classier than while wearing last weekend’s see-thru dress and granny panties. That hair is icky though, and Katy should get rid of those extensions because they weigh down her locks. She’s cuter with a shorter, peppier ‘do.

I knew this day was inevitable — Katy Perry has been bitten by the acting bug and decided that she’s got the talent and wherewithal to be an actress, possibly even a “serious” actress. Never mind that the acting skills demonstrated in Katy’s “Part of Me” video (the one where she joins the Marines) was laughably lousy; but in her defense, no one ever expects Oscar-caliber stuff in a music video, right? Well apparently, Katy is taking herself seriously on that note, and her ego has also been bolstered by a cameo in Get Him to the Greek (in which she made out with not-yet-husband Russell Brand) and a role as the voice of slutty Smurfette in last summer’s The Smurfs.
I guess since Katy is now participating within her own 3-D concert movie, perhaps some producers are getting the bright idea that it’s not that big of a stretch to toss her into a romantic comedy and see if an audience shows up to put their butts in seats. Indeed, Katy was even almost hired for a role in The Help, and she was “upset” that the role didn’t work out due to scheduling conflicts. Can you imagine? Well Katy can definitely imagine, and according to this week’s Enquirer, she’s now begging Kristen Wiig to write her a perfect script and help her get started as a true Hollywood ingenue:
Quirky singing sensation Katy Perry is planning to hit a new high note in her career…as a movie star.
The songbird known for her wild fashion style and revolving hair colors has already branched out by being a spokesperson for Proactiv skin care products, and she now wants to add “leading lady” to her resume.
“Even people who don’t know Katy’s music know her form her Proactiv ad campaign,” said a close source. “With her photogenic face, producers are confident she’ll be able to make the jump from the recording studio to the big screen.”
To accomplish her new goal, Katy has enlisted the help of “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig.
She’s betting that Kristen, who’s also won raves for her acting and scripting of the movie hit, Bridesmaids, can help katy reinvent herself in the wake of her split from comic actor Russell Brand, say insiers.
The “Part of Me” singer and the “SNL” funnylady have been fast friends since Katy hosted the late-night comedy show in December.
“Katy is plotting a huge image and career makeover,” revealed the source. “Coming off a painful divorce from Russell, she wants to start fresh. She feels like she’s reached her full potential as a musician. She is looking for new challenges and is begging Kristen to write a comedy for her.”
The 27-year-old pop idol has already had some minor screen roles. But with Kristen’s help, she’s hoping to make movie magic, and if a role calls for showing a lot of skin, Katy’s all for it.
“Although Katy is a real-life preacher’s daughter, she’s not shy,” said the source. “She’s never had a problem showing off her ample assets.”

This will probably happen in some shape or form even if Kristen says, “Sorry, no dice.” All that movie producers really care about are dollar signs, and acting ability matters very much in the grand scheme of starting out in Hollywood. However, once people realize that Katy is merely a “pretty face” (and a very made-up one at that, she’ll be a goner after one or two movies. In other words, Katy probably shouldn’t give up her mindless music anytime soon. Yes, she is very pretty though.

Here’s some photos of Katy Perry at last evening’s ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Hollywood. Her hair isn’t bad here, and it looks like the brand-new violet hue has faded a bit with a few (presumed) washings. The dress is Temperly London in white lace, and it’s a gorgeous gown in and of itself. However, this is Katy Perry we’re talking about, so just she had to trash it up a bit by letting the left shoulder strap fall by the wayside and, in the process, risking a major nipple slip. With a rack as big as Katy’s, such a move even risked her entire boob falling out too.
Here is the moment when Katy “discovers” that she’s about to go topless in front of the world:
I have to wonder whether Katy did this on purpose or if it was merely an accident. We’ve already seen how she often wears dresses that, while lovely, don’t flatter her girls, and it’s truly like she doesn’t know what to do with them. Or are these suspect fashion choices all part of her plan? Personally (and my rack is above average but not as big as Katy’s) I’m always very conscious about any potential wardrobe malfunction and go to great lengths to prevent such an accident from occurring. So I’m sort of wondering exactly how Katy could let that strap dangle without even noticing her error until it was almost too late. Her good-girl-gone-bad image seems too calculated for such a red-carpet appearance to not be entirely mapped out. She totally planned this, right?

She?s always up for a good shindig, and last night (April 18) Katy Perry was in the house for the 2012 ASCAP Pop Music Awards.
The ?I Kissed a Girl? songstress showed up at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, sporting a beautiful art deco-style gown as she posed for the press.
And it was a big night for Katy, who nabbed a trophy for her hit song ?E.T.? as did her producing trio of Max Martin, Ammo, and Dr. Luke.
Speaking of Max Martin, the Swedish hitmaker took home the coveted title of Songwriter of the Year.

Over the weekend, Katy Perry was one of many celebrities to attend the Coachella Music Festival in Los Angeles, and she chose to use the event to show off her brand new hair color. However, the element of surprise was very important for some reason, so here’s Katy on Friday in two separate outfits as she made her way to her tour bus. In both instances, she’s covering her head under the guise of protecting herself from the rain, but let’s not fool ourselves into believing that because Katy could’ve easily found some lackey to hold an umbrella for her. She was really just hiding her hair because she wasn’t yet wearing one of her “adorable“ quirky outfits.
Now before we discuss her official Saturday concert-going outfit, here’s the big reveal on the violet-purple hair (with some new extensions too):
Katy Perry can’t seem find a hair color that suits her.
Perhaps that’s because she chooses unconventional shades, like the dark purple color she debuted at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, Calif. over the weekend. The singer, 27, most recently rocked a bright blue hue.
In the past year alone, Perry has dyed her hair black, blonde and bubblegum pink. After Perry unveiled her cobalt coif in January 2012, her colorist Rita Hazan told Us Weekly: “She wanted to go this particular color blue for a few weeks now. Katy is the ideal client because she loves to be creative and unpredictable with her look.”
It’s been a year of change for Perry, whose husband Russell Brand filed for divorce in December 2011. The British comedian, 36, recently surrendered all rights to the $6.5 million Hollywood Hills home he shared with his ex-wife, according to a quitclaim deed. They purchased the sprawling seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom pad in June 2011.

Is it wrong to admit that I actually liked the blue hair better than this violet hue? At least blue played up Katy’s eyes a bit, but the dark purple seems to wash her out. Perhaps it’s the longer length that does so as well because I prefer her with a shorter, kickier hairstyle. At least we know this color and style won’t last long, for Katy doesn’t like to settle down with just one look. The purple is much better than the recent Pink though.
As far as Katy’s outfit goes, she tweeted that “Today’s lewk is sponsored by Courtney Love, virgin suicides & fern gully #nymph.” Nice quirky misspelling there, right? But the outfit itself — a transparent, flower-child like dress, leather lace-up boots, and very visible bra and granny panties underneath — isn’t very flattering at all. Much like Katy’s recent mint-green, butt-flashing number from Paris Fashion Week, this is a very “look at me” sort of outfit.
By the end of the evening on Saturday, Katy added a studded, black leather jacket to her ensemble.

Katy Perry covers the May issue of Teen Vogue, and yes, she’s still semi-rocking that ubiquitous hair color. As far as the photoshoot goes, Teen Vogue had a blast playing up Katy’s blue hue. I’m amazed that she’s hung onto the same tint job for so long and am wondering if she’ll go violet next. These clothes are cute enough though, and at least Katy’s rack isn’t hanging out all over the place. So that’s some serious editorial restraint on the part of the magazine.
Within the interview, Katy discusses the smash success of her latest single, “Part of Me” (which I still believe is about Russell Brand no matter what she says to the contrary) and her alternatingly avant-garde/trashy and faux-hardcore fashion sense. Also — get this — Katy insists that she’s so tired of being famous because she’s, like, just all about the music. Seriously.
Was she excited about her 7th #1? “Of course! I’m not like, “Ugh, number one again.” It’s funny, though–my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited. But for me, I don’t need to grind it into anyone’s head that I’m popular. If you like my music, great, and if you don’t, whatever. I’m going to keep making it either way. This does feel a bit like the record that never ends. But I wanted to release The Complete Confection for the hard-core fan who wants everything: three new songs, the remixes, and it’s all in a cute little package.”
On acting: “There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help–just a small part, I wasn’t going to be Emma Stone or anything–but I couldn’t because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record. And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film. Not that I need to do drama first, but I do want to do something that makes a strong impression. You don’t really get off the hook being a musician first … I feel like the stakes are really high.”
On glamour: “I don’t like to take fashion too seriously. I love it, and I am so grateful when big brands want to associate with me, but mostly I just want to take chances and have fun and truly live. And sometimes that means wearing some ridiculous, cat-inspired outfit rather than whatever happens to be in this season.”
Her style influences: “I love Agyness Deyn, Chlo Sevigny, Daphne Guinness, Natalie Wood, Judy Jetson, and Wonder Woman. They have the ability to adapt and evolve and change. Like, I’m still doing the pinup thing, but now when I do it, I want to be the pinup of the future, like Rachael in Blade Runner. But I’ve always been quirky–it probably started when I was nine years old, and my father used to wake me up at seven every Saturday morning to take me to garage sales. I couldn’t afford the clothes that the other girls at school were wearing, so instead I looked for things that were unique to me.”
On fame: “I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature– it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible–when I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, ‘Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.’ But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.”

Bloody hell. Can you imagine if Katy had actually been featured in The Help? We’d never hear the end of it if she actually was part of an Oscar-nominated production. Otherwise, I can’t believe Katy’s actually complaining about fame since her team’s business model seems to solely consist of famewhoring through the quirkiest means possible to reach the maximum possible exposure. How on earth can one shoot whipped cream and firecrackers from their boobs and still complain about the annoyance of fame? I doubt that Katy’s trying to be ironic with her comments and has probably actually conned herself into thinking she’s a true artist. You know, a true artist who plants herself next to a hot male model and encourages a fauxmance just to generate publicity.
During the rest of the interview, Katy also talks more about her ill-fated 3-D movie, but I didn’t include that excerpt because it didn’t seem like many of you were interested in the trailer. Here’s the rest of the photoshoot, which really isn’t that bad at all.
