| Julia Roberts in a Givenchy onesie at the SAGs: pretty or unflattering? | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A lot of people loved Julia Roberts? Givenchy ensemble as soon as she came on the SAG carpet last night. I just picked up on the sillhouette at first, and I did like it. I like Julia in a sleek, tailored, menswear-inspired look. But I thought this was a slim-cut suit and it?s not. It?s a ONESIE. So? no. I don?t like this on principle. Can we make this a rule? No onesies on the red carpet. Please? But! There is some nice stuff to say. For one, Julia isn?t doing that horrid blonde shade anymore and the red looks gorgeous. Her hair overall was the best it?s looked in years. Her makeup was amazing. And the Givenchy showed off the perfect amount of cleavage.
By the way, did everyone enjoy how Julia made presenting an award all about the most important person in the room, Julia Roberts? You know why? It?s because she lost her award. Julia Roberts deigned to do a TV movie and no one has given her any awards for her efforts! So when she got up there to present Best Actor, she had to remind everyone that her costar, Mark Ruffalo, won and that she worked with him and he probably wouldn?t even EXIST if not for Julia Roberts, and it was like she knew we were all desperate to hear how Julia Roberts felt about Mark Ruffalo winning an award.
Meryl Streep barely posed on the red carpet, because let?s face it: Meryl has no more f?ks to give. You might even say that the awards shows were trolling her with all of her nominations this year, just trying to prove a point: that Meryl Streep will literally get a nomination for ANYTHING. And at this point, Meryl is tired of getting all dressed up and trying to ?work? a carpet. Besides, she knows she?s not going to win this year. So Meryl wore this completely normal and uneventful Lanvin dress. Full disclosure: I would love to own this dress. I love a wrap dress with sleeves. But this looks like something Meryl already had in her closet, and like something she?s worn to at least four other events (this year). Hey, at least she got to hang out with JULIA.

| Julia Roberts: 'I?ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
I?ve mentioned this before, but I?ve believed for years now that Julia Roberts had some work done. I can even pinpoint the time frame of the alleged work: it was around the time she was promoting Mona Lisa Smile (circa 2002). I remember seeing her on Oprah around that time and her face looked so different. Her eyes were suddenly tight and everything just seemed very ?refreshed.? For what it?s worth, I think if she did get work it was either injectibles or something surgical that has since ?settled.? But since Julia has never publicly admitted to getting anything done, that?s as good as never getting anything done, right? One goose honk for ?yes,? two honks for ?no.?
Julia Roberts has stepped into the controversy over the pressures on women in Hollywood by claiming she may have risked her career by opting not to undergo a facelift. The Oscar-winning actor, 46, made the comments in an interview with You Magazine to promote her role as a beauty ambassador with Lancome.
?By Hollywood standards, I guess I?ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift,? she said. ?But I?ve told Lancome that I want to be an ageing model ? so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I?m over 50.?
Roberts, whose comments came in the wake of a media furore over 45-year-old Rene Zellweger?s new look, said she had found peace in middle age by ?studying yoga on a more conscious level? and removing the clutter from her life.
?It?s about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally,? she said. ?There?s a lightness to my life now ? an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That?s happiness.?
[From The Guardian]
God, you have to love how patronizing Julia can be. Yes, she?s a 47 year old woman fronting a major beauty campaign for Lancome and good for her. But the campaign has come under fire repeatedly for the excessive Photoshopping and airbrushing on Julia?s face. The Lancome ads were even BANNED in the UK because they were promoting false advertising, that?s how bad it was. Who needs plastic surgery when Lancome is spending thousands of dollars in post-production to make you look like a dewy and radiant 29 year old? As for the rest of it? I get the feeling that Julia probably does live a pretty clean/green/healthy life. Filled with lots of laughter. Because she?s laughing smugly at all of the tacky peasants. Ah, sweet elixir of youth: the goose-honk.
PS? The UK outlets are trying to make this into a ?Julia vs. Renee Zellweger? thing. It?s possible that Julia is throwing shade on Renee, because that would be completely in keeping with Julia?s character, but I tend to think Julia gave these quotes before last week?s Zellweger photos even came out.

| Julia Roberts in a blue Elie Saab mini at the Emmys: exhausting or adorable? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

SO MUCH JULIA. Julia was one of the few ?movie stars? who deigned to appear at last night?s Emmys. And much like Matthew McConaughey, Julia lost her Emmy race (to Fabulous Kathy Bates) and her sore-loser face made me laugh and laugh. And then there was some instant-karma when I made my sore-loser face when Benedict Cumberbatch won and he wasn?t even there. So, karma is a bitch. Noted. Plus, Julia got a chance to look smug when The Normal Heart won Best TV Movie. So, the night was not a complete loss for her.
Julia wore this short Elie Saab dress which is? okay. I didn?t hate it, I didn?t love it. Julia has moved into more matronly, mature looks over the past four years or so, but she still likes showing off her legs when she can. Even though this look is ALL LEG, I find it too conservative. I wonder if I would have liked this better if it had still been a short/minidress but with a straight skirt rather than a ruffled/tiered look. I think a straight skirt would have been really sexy here, right?
As for Julia?s whole shtick where she?s the most important person in whatever room she?s in? it gets on my last nerve, but what else do you expect from her? She managed to make Best Actor in a Drama Series all about her as she prattled on and on while on-stage. CB thought Julia sounded drunk. Yeah, drunk on her own self-importance! She?s always like that.
And just for some sharp relief from The Julia Show, here?s Mindy Kaling in Kenzo. I have to give it to Mindy, she?s the model of professionalism. She was notably snubbed as a writer and as an actress ? even though The Mindy Project was killing it last season ? and she still showed up to hustle and present. Good for you, girl.

| Julia Roberts on social media & modern celebrity: 'It's the sport of ugliness' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last week, the Today Show kept talking about and promoting their exclusive interview with Julia Roberts. For days I was like, ?What? What is she promoting?? It took me forever to realize that she appeared on Today and The Tonight Show simply to campaign for her Emmy Award. She was nominated for her work in The Normal Heart, which I think will probably end up winning many Emmys. My money is on Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer, out of all the actors. Julia was good, but? I don?t know, any decent actress could have done it, you know? I feel like Julia just wants to remind everybody that she deigned to do (gasp!) a TV movie. Anyway, I?m including the Today video below and here are some highlights:
Whether her kids understand that their mom is a big movie star: “They understand that … people that I don’t know might know who I am.?
Her dream costars: “Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson? Anthony Hopkins, because he’s my movie crush ? who else? Chiwetel Ejiofor … George Clooney. Brad Pitt. I think I’ve made more movies with … Brad Pitt than I’ve made with anybody. So I’ll just keep going with Brad.”
On social media & modern celebrity: “I don’t think I’d survive? It’s just too nasty. It’s the sport of ugliness. I’d pull out of it. I wouldn’t have the stomach for it.”
Leaving her kids at home for the first time to make August: Osage County: “Hazel refers to it as ‘the dark time.? As my husband says, I had to at some point have that experience and know what it was like. And I was just lucky that on the other side of that experience was this dream job.”
[From Today]
She also talks about motherhood and what it meant to her to take time away from Hollywood to just be a mom and I actually buy what she says about not needing that constant validation of Hollywood stardom every day. Of course, everybody still kisses her ass, so it?s not like she would ever have to deal with the nightmare scenario of ever being anything other than A-list. I also believe what she says about social media ? she wouldn?t be the star we know today if she had come up in the era of social media and internet-fame.

| Star: Julia Roberts 'is petrified Danny will cheat so she treats him like a child' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This sounds serious! But it?s only Star Mag so it?s probably not true. Still, if I told you that I was having some weird feelings about Julia Roberts? marriage, wouldn?t you say to yourself, ?I bet she?s right?? Julia and Danny Moder have never been big on the public displays of affection or anything like that. Have they ever walked a red carpet together? I don?t think so. Not that public displays are indicative of anything, I was just sitting here trying to remember if we?ve ever been like, ?Oh, they seem so in love.? So they?ve made it 12 years together, they have three kids and now Star is saying that it?s pretty much over.
The warning signs have been there for years: countless public squabbles, questions about fidelity and serious tension with the in-laws. And now, after almost 12 years of marriage, friends fear that Julia Roberts and Danny Moder are finally ready to call it quits.
Trust has been an issue with the couple since they first got together ? in large part because Danny was married to another woman when he and the actress first got together.
?Julia?s whole M.O. is to keep Danny by her side, because she?s petrified he?ll cheat,? a source tells Star. ?So she treats him like a child, checking his phone, looking for emails and texts from other women and monitoring who he socializes with and when. She rules the house with an iron fist and uses the fact that she brings in the bulk of their income to control Danny.”
The drama at home couldn?t come at a worse time for the August: Osage County star. Her half sister, Nancy Motes, committed suicide in February, and reportedly left a suicide note bashing her famous sister ? and Danny didn?t agree with the way Julia treated Nancy, either.
?Nancy?s death really made Danny realize how heartless Julia can be,? an insider explains.
Still, image maintenance for Julia means that the couple may not be able to split right away, and for the sake of their three children, Danny has been sticking around.
[From Star Magazine]
Star also says that Danny wanted to do some work on a documentary about ocean pollution and Julia?s first response was “I’m not funding it.” I don?t know y?all? doesn?t this sound like Julia? I have no problem believing that Julia keeps Danny on a tight leash and that she?s in charge of everything, and when Danny tries to do anything apart from her, she?s not happy. But does all of that mean ?divorce?? Or does it just mean they have a crappy marriage? A Low Vera indeed.

| Julia Roberts in Dior at NYC 'Normal Heart' premiere: lovely or unflattering' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from last night?s NYC premiere of the HBO movie The Normal Heart. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in attendance, but they?ll get a separate post. This post is for everybody else! Believe it or not, Julia Roberts is wearing a straight-from-the-runway look from Dior. Seriously! I was annoyed because I thought she was just wearing some summer dress and had decided at the last minute to put a heavy blazer on top of the dress, but no. This is the original Dior look. While I think the blazer saves the look from being ?too young,? I really hate that blazer. And I dislike Julia?s hair too ? she?s too old to wear it half-covering her face.
Here?s Liv Tyler in Dolce & Gabbana. It?s cute, I don?t even hate the ?coin? design. I would have taken the lace sleeves off though.
Wait, is Sarah Paulson dating Prince Oberyn (Pedro Pascal)?! I think she is. Damn, Paulson is a baller.
And here are some of the gentlemen from The Normal Heart: Matt Bomer, Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons (with his boyfriend/partner Todd Spiewak) and Taylor Kitsch.

| Julia Roberts on celeb culture: 'There is a dehumanization that goes with fame' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Does anyone else think this is quite possibly the loveliest Julia Roberts has looked in years? I usually hate when she?s doing this blonde-with-roots look, but this Wall Street Journal photoshoot is amazing. So pretty. Anyway, you can read the full WSJ piece here ? WSJ has really stepped it up with their celebrity interviews over the past year or so, and this piece is one of the most intensive Julia interviews I?ve read in a while. It?s a good piece, and it probably helps that Julia is promoting a project that she cares about: the HBO movie The Normal Heart. Some highlights:
Living in Malibu since 2007: “We’re just grateful for the sense we have of being like any other family down the street. I don’t question it, frankly.?
Time away from Hollywood: “By the time we had kids, I had accomplished things and felt secure about that part of my life. I was so joyful moving into the family phase of my life in a sincere way.” As a result, “for a long time,” she says of her children, “they weren’t even aware I had a job because I was home so much. Now they get it.”
Acting in a wheelchair: “It was the most actor-y I’ve ever been. But you don’t want to be bumping into walls and doorjambs and scraping your knuckles on things. I thought being in a wheelchair would be so easy and quiet, but it was actually quite tiring.”
She?s happiest in ensembles: “My preference would forever be ensemble. It’s where I started, and it’s what I love. It’s just fun and interesting to see what your fellow actors are coming up with. Mystic Pizza was like that, Steel Magnolias was like that. It’s like being in a big family.”
Working with her husband Danny Moder: “I find it nerve-wracking in the best schoolgirl kind of way, and he knows that and is a good sport,” she says. “I am usually hoping he’s not looking into the camera and thinking, ‘What is she doing?’ We have worked together a lot and whenever we get there, I think, ‘Why are we doing this again?’ But it’s great, and it allows us to travel together.”
On the current fame game: “I think there is a dehumanization that goes with fame, especially in the present culture of it, which isn’t the culture I started off in. There wasn’t this analysis of every iota of every moment of every day. Nobody cared about what you wore, nobody cared what haircut you had, if you had on makeup or didn’t?it’s become this sort of sport.”
The old fame game: Roberts is nostalgic for the Hollywood of her early career, where having arrived meant a dinner invitation to agent Sue Mengers’s house and “there seemed to be a method to it,” she says. “You had your job and you got paid $1, and you got your next job and got paid $2. It made sense to me? It used to be that you could build from weekend to weekend and people talked. Now, if there have been two showtimes and it hasn’t sold 10 bazillion tickets, you’re dead in the water. I don’t consider myself a celebrity, [at least not] how it is fostered in our culture today. I don’t know if I’m old and slow, but there seems to be a frenzy to it.”
Her sister?s death: “It’s just heartbreak. It’s only been 20 days. There aren’t words to explain what any of us have been through in these last 20 days. It’s hour by hour some days, but you just keep looking ahead. You don’t want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world. But [as with] any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family. It’s so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family.”
Not having any projects on the horizon: “It’s nice. We have the rest of the school year. The thing about being a parent is that as your kids get older, Fridays start to get super exciting again, and Sundays start to get melancholic. Spring break is exciting again.”
[From the Wall Street Journal]
Ah, I remember Sue Mengers. Sue Mengers was old-school ? one good word from Mengers could make a career. One bad word and you were done in Hollywood. Mengers was still trying to play the game until the end ? I remember reading an interview with her in the late 00s about how Jennifer Aniston is the biggest, brightest movie star or something.
As for Julia?s quotes about her sister Nancy? I don?t have anything to say. It?s a tragedy and I like that Julia and her family handled everything very quietly. Julia?s quotes here sound rehearsed, but I don?t blame her. If she said anything more about it, her words would be parsed ad infinitum.
Julia also talks a lot about how she prepared for The Normal Heart, where she plays a doctor with polio who is fighting for more HIV/AIDS awareness ? she says this was the most she ever prepared and researched for a role, which confuses me because she?s played some complicate characters in the past. It?s like Julia is saying that she phones it in most of the time.

| Julia Roberts in black lace Givenchy at the Oscars: widow-fug or sort of cute? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

OMG, I thought Julia Roberts was one of the worst-dressed women of the night. I also thought that she probably didn?t give a crap, and I have to give her a slow-clap for not making everything about JULIA. Julia attended the Oscars because she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Julia hasn?t won anything this whole awards season, so she went into the evening knowing that she wasn?t going to win the Oscar. So, this dress is sort of ?I?m just here because I?m nominated and I wanted to be comfortable.? Also, she?s blonde now. That was like the last thing I noticed, that?s how hideous this dress is.
Still, this Givenchy was bad. Really, really bad. The black lace is very ?Italian widow? and it?s also really derivative of what Dolce & Gabbana was doing a few years ago, so once again: Riccardo Tisci is an awful designer. The peplum ruins everything it touches, and there?s no built-in support in the dress, so Julia?s boobs look sort of? blah, whatever. The whole thing just looked really cheap, which, obviously, is how most Givenchy gowns look these days. What in the world is happening to the House of Givenchy? Lord.
I also thought Jessica Biel ? in Chanel ? was one of the worst-dressed women of the Oscars. It could have been a boringly average glittery tube dress (there were 20 million of those on the red carpet), but it really felt like the dress was unfinished. The lining seemed budget. And what was with the stupid ruffle on the top? And why did it seem like it was just a fraction too tight on her? And why was she even invited to present?! Last thing: her limp hair kept falling in her face and she touched her weave more times than Duchess Kate. Which is never a good sign. Even a blah chignon would have been better than this nothing hairstyle.

Many questions remained after her sudden death on Sunday (February 9), but on Tuesday a suicide note was found at Julia Roberts' half-sister's residence.
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner, a suicide note or notes were found at Nancy Motes' home.
A spokesperson for the office confirmed that an autopsy was completed, but toxicology results are still pending and could take up to 10 weeks.
On Monday, Lt. Fred Corral shared, "There were prescription and nonprescription drugs found at the scene. The role the drugs may or may not have played is not yet known."

Julia Roberts really is a monster. Reports are coming in that Nancy Motes, who committed suicide by way of overdose last Sunday, left a five pageletter. Shockingly, three of those pages were dedicated to how much of an asshole her sister Julia Roberts is and says that she was the one that drove her to kill herself.
Then there was one page telling her mom how much she loved her and one more page apologizing to her fiance, John Dilbeck.
The letter isn’t the first time she went off on Julia either. In a tweet as recent as Jan. 20, Motes wrote about how cold Julia is. “So my ‘sister’ said that with all her friends & fans she doesn’t need any more love. Just so you all know ‘America’s Sweetheart’ is a B—-!!’”She later tweeted, “Do you want to be a fan of someone so cruel? She’s not even that good of an actress. Happy you totally F—ed with me?” And then, “(M)y own family has abandoned me.”
The tweets have since been scrubbed from Motes’ Twitter account.
Roberts is known in Hollywood for being a bitch but this suicide note really drives the point home. I mean, she wrote five pages and three of those were about how much she hated her sister. Jesus. I’d be surprised if they don’t find a notebook filled entirely with scribbles that read “Die Julia!” I bet if Julia even shows up to the funeral, her eulogy would go something like, “Hopefully Nancy is at peace now. And just think about all the weight she’s going to lose!”
