True story, I?ve always found Chloe Sevigny sort of annoying and full of herself, but the general ?90s nostalgia has made me reassess her. Like? maybe she genuinely is very cool and sort of misunderstood? She should get credit for her commitment to independent film and working with up-and-coming filmmakers. She should get credit for truly loving fashion and celebrating fashion. She should get credit for being an underrated and even underappreciated actress. Anyway, I?m here for the Sevigny Revival. She currently stars in Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, where she plays CZ Guest, the famous style icon/designer and writer. To promote the show, Chloe recently chatted with Rolling Stone about style, reality television, late-motherhood and more. Some highlights:
She doesn?t watch the Real Housewife shows: ?I have never watched a single episode of a single Housewife. I don?t know who any of them are or any of their things going on. Didn?t one of them do something for a college application? [she was thinking of Lori Loughlin of Full House] Oh, she wasn?t a Housewife? Shows how much I know. OK. I?m not really much of a TV person, period. I used to be really into Project Runway, but this was pre-baby, pre-husband, single life. I?ve never watched a Kardashian episode. It?s been a while.?
Whether she has gossip-heavy lunches with girlfriends: ?I used to have these girls? nights where I?d only have girlfriends over and we?d drink martinis and talk sh-t, but that hasn?t happened as much now that the small person is always around my house and never leaves. [Laughs] One of my New Year?s resolutions was to start carving out more time for friends.
Her infamous New Yorker profile by Jay McInerney turns 30 years old next year: ?It was so odd to be written about before you were even famous for anything, you know? That was the hard part about it for me: I didn?t really understand why it was happening. In retrospect, I think it?s interesting to follow a girl who?s coming into her own, but at the time I didn?t feel it was justified. I was like, ?Why do you even care?? I was like, ?Why am I even doing this?? [Jay] promised to buy me this dress and my father read The New Yorker.?
Having a baby at 45, during the pandemic: ?It?s amazing just to have a baby. I didn?t think it was going to happen to me, and then to have this thing? I can?t imagine life without him. And like I said, he just never leaves. He?s always around here. I had a doctor that specializes in these ?high-risk? pregnancies, and there was a pressure to induce for the sake of the hospital staff because if you induced you could get a Covid test, and then the nurses and the hospital staff would feel more comfortable if you were negative, which is so crazy that that was something that was being encouraged. It?s such a complicated thing to talk about in the press because it?s such a personal thing. I hope people will be happy that it happened for me, but I also don?t want them to think it?s the be-all and end-all. I even have friends that were like, ?I have a great career. If I didn?t have a kid, then it would have been fine.? I was like, ?What?!? Like, wow. But I had tried other avenues and not had luck with them, so to naturally conceive at that age is kind of a miracle.
The best advice she?s ever received: ?I don?t really have an answer for that. I think there are things you learn as you go along, like comparing and despairing and how unhealthy that is, and running your own race, and they?re all truisms but feel trite to say out loud, so I?m always kind of ugh.
Style advice: ?Style is so personal. There are people that say, ?Less is more,? but I don?t know if that?s necessarily true. I think whatever is true for you and makes you feel best.
Her friendship with Natasha Lyonne: ?We carve out the time to see one another. She came away with me for my 49th birthday recently. We have a similar attitude toward certain things about life and the business. We met when we were both roommates with Mike Rapaport. She was his roommate in L.A. and I was his roommate in New York, where we were both living with him for free even more than being roommates. He introduced us and we were very like-minded.
Whether she was boxed into doing indie work or whether she made that choice: ?I think it?s a little bit of both. Early on, it was by choice. And later, I?d kind of dug my own niche that I was then boxed into. I do like to think that I?ve maintained that across TV as well. I like working with, dare I say, auteurs ? Ryan Murphy, Portlandia, Louis C.K., Russian Doll, and even Big Love, to an extent. Doing these TV projects with strong showrunners and writer-directors. But as far as studio pictures, I don?t know where those are. Most of my work has been incoming calls, and a lot of that has to do with living in New York and not L.A. My father died when I was 20 and I never wanted to be far from my mother.
The change in street style: ?Now, everything is intermeshed. When I was younger, you could tell who was a punker, who was a hardcore kid, who was into hip hop. And now, everybody looks like they?re just into fashion. It?s hard to dress in a way that identifies you in a certain rebellious milieu. I imagine it?s harder for kids to feel like more of an individual, I would assume? I don?t know.?
Whether New York has become a city for the rich. ?Yeah. The athleisure and the dogs are taking over, and that?s really unfortunate. Everybody?s in Lululemon and has a fking dog and it?s driving me crazy. I?m sorry, dog lovers. There are too many of you. I?m not going out to clubs in Ridgewood so I?m sure it?s there somewhere, but I?m not experiencing it. I hope there are places for people to go when they want to. I miss the megaclubs and the accessibility. I would like to know that they were there [in Manhattan] and not in Ridgewood, which seems very far. At the same time, the city seems closer as far as going out to other boroughs with Uber. We would do car services and it was harder to access areas because of subways and buses not going to certain areas.
[From Rolling Stone]
It?s kind of crazy to think that ?New York is a city for the rich? complaint has been happening basically since Rudy Giuliani was mayor, so for 25 years, there?s been this constant argument of ?everything is so expensive/unliveable/not cool/not artsy.? But yeah, I believe that ?everybody?s in Lululemon and has a fking dog? is the current thing. Her story about Michael Rapaport is completely wild too Rapaport has a place in New York and a place in LA and he let two young actresses crash with him in each place? Then he introduced them, knowing that they would get along? As for her indie work? I think she probably was boxed in, but it?s weird that no big-name director was ever like ?hey, I bet Chloe would be great in this big-budget movie.? I wonder if she was really never offered anything like that.

I?m going to make a bold suggestion: after the lockdown, maybe FaceTime interviews should stay? I?ve read a few long-read interviews done with celebrities in lockdown, and the interviews are just better and more substantive than regular old celebrity profiles. So it is with this Chloe Sevigny piece for New York Magazine. She?s just weeks away from her due date, and she?s a long-time New Yorker. She wanted to chat about everything that?s happening in New York, and how crazy it is to be pregnant during this time. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
She hates videochatting: ?It?s always so terribly unflattering. I have friends who are younger than me, like in their mid-20s, and all they want to do is FaceTim. I?m like, What is wrong with these people? But I guess they?re really young, and they always look beautiful, so it doesn?t matter.?
Worried about possibly not having her mom or her doula there when she gives birth: ?I talk to her and my other close friends on the regular, and then my mother. The hardest part has been not seeing her, because she lives only 45 minutes away and we?re quite close. She wants to be here. That?s been hard, and then the day I was told that Sini?a, my boyfriend, might not be allowed to come to the delivery. I had a super-panic attack and was crying uncontrollably. I have a doula, and she called me really panicked. She?s supposed to be the calm in the storm, so hearing her really irate made it even more scary.
She?s crushing on Andrew Cuomo: ?I?m also one of those crushing-on-Cuomos. I know we?re not supposed to be. I know his history is very spotty. But I will say, tuning in to those press conferences every day has been very calming for me. There?s just something about his perspective, and the way he lays out the facts, and uses some sense of humor and personal anecdotes, I don?t know, I find it very relaxing.
She?s worried about her single friends: ?Right now, my heart goes out to all my single girlfriends ? not having that outside stimuli, like flirting, or whatever, to help push you through. I keep asking like, ?Are you sexting with anyone?? because that can really help as far as the dopamine release.
Whether there should be changes in the fashion industry: ?Like my boyfriend works in the art world ? do people need to fly to these fairs around the world all the time? Their calendar is worse than the fashion calendar. The nature of both of those businesses is so excessive. Of course, people are tactile and they want to see things and experience things. I?m going to sound like a total ahole, but going to a show and seeing the garments is very different from going on Vogue.com. I love the escapism of it all. I?m very sold on a story and a lifestyle. I can buy into that very easily, and I think a show is a big part of that. But I also think there?s gotta be an alternative way. Scaling down is necessary and a very positive aspect of what?s happening, in my mind. Maybe people will just reassess how they?re living. Maybe less people need to go to the fashion shows? Maybe there don?t need to be as many? I also just think there?s too much product. There?s too much turnover in terms of people wanting what?s new all the time. I?ve been wearing vintage and consignment my whole life, and I?m so glad it?s become more of a thing.
On the New York economy collapsing: ?How does one navigate something like that, especially in New York ? a city that?s so expensive? I feel like the rich are just going to get richer off of all of this?. But will this weed certain [negative] aspects out? Maybe they?re overly optimistic. But ? Maybe? I had a friend say that he might come back to New York. He was like, ?All the yuppie scum might flee.? I?m sticking it out with New York. I?ve been here since ?93, so I?ve seen a lot of things fall by the wayside that I loved and have to mourn. I feel like it?s a constant mourning. But then we celebrate new things.
[From The Cut]
It?s something I haven?t thought about much, the idea that this will mark a major change for how the fashion industry operates. I agree that there can easily be alternative ways to show work, and I also agree that perhaps we can cull the amount of product. Some of those changes will be organic, meaning? there are designers and clothing companies which will go out of business because of this. I remember reading something maybe on Bloomberg? at the beginning of the lockdown and the argument was basically that if this lasts as long as people think it will, the shift for major cities will be a lot like ?New York in the ?70s.? Meaning, cheaper housing, more crime, more artists, fewer rich people, more unemployment in the cities. Also, I?m still worried about all of the pregnant ladies giving birth in hospitals during this time.

One of the few happy gossip stories of 2020 is that Chloe Sevigny is pregnant with her first. Chloe is such an odd duck, really the indie It Girl who never seemed to grow up, except she sort of did? In recent years, she managed to retain her indie spirit while still making some more corporate career choices here and there. She?s still retained her weird fashion sense too, which is fun and stupid and interesting. Basically, I really like Chloe and I wish her well, and I love that she is pregnant at the age of 45.
These are photos of Chloe out with her boyfriend Sinisa Mackovic in New York this week. I feel like she wearing that cutesy maternity blouse ironically! She?s probably like ?oh, I will wear gingham and pastel stripes and ruffles but it will work because people will assume it?s vintage Chanel!? Chloe and Sinisa were actually out shopping at a maternity clothing shop (Seraphine) in these photos. She must be having a ball with this.
Also: can someone who knows how to pronounce Slavic names please spell out how her man?s name is pronounced phonetically? Is it Sin-eesa Mack-oh-VICH? Is it Sin-Eye-Sa? I would genuinely love to know. Also: Sinisa?s PANTS. LOOK AT THEM.

Over the years, I?ve developed some feelings for and about Chloe Sevigny. I used to think she was kind of impossible, but my hate-respect grew into genuine respect over time, and at this point, I think I?m a Sevigny Stan? Do those people exist? I love that she exists sort of a throwback to the ?90s, the cool indie kid who grew up to still do weird projects and try her hand at directing and fashion designing. She still lives her life on her terms. And now Chloe Sevigny is going to experience something new: motherhood. At the age of 45.
Chloe Sevigny is about to go on the ride of her life motherhood, cause shes expecting her first baby!!! The American Horror Story star and her man, Sinisa Mackovic, were spotted out Monday in NYC showing PDA and looking really excited about their first child together. They held hands, kissed, laughed and Sinisa even rubbed her belly for good luck or possibly because of love and stuff.
The Oscar-nominated actress who just wrapped on the upcoming HBO mini-series, We Are Who We Are is about 5 months into what is, technically, considered a geriatric pregnancy. For those not in the know, that sounds worse than it is. Doctors slap that label on most expectant moms over 35. Chloes 45, but thats not nearly as risky as it used to be. Remember, Janet Jackson was 50 when she gave birth for the first time.
Chloe and proud papa-to-be Sinisa the director of Karma Art Gallery in NYC have been together for more than a year.
[From TMZ]
Isn?t it crazy that Chloe Sevigny kind of set up a TMZ photoshoot to announce her pregnancy? Look at the photos, below. That?s a set-up! The camera is so close. This pregnancy photoshoot comes on the heels of Michelle Williams? pregnancy/engagement rollout last week, where Michelle went dramatically off-brand and did a set-up photoshoot with People Magazine. The Indie Girls Are Not Alright!!! Anyway, congrats to Chloe and Sinisa I was not expecting this, and I?m genuinely happy for her.

| Chloe Sevigny: Having babies in your 30s 'unfortunately ages women' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Chloe Sevigny is 41 years old. Is it wrong to say that she looks her age? Well, with the certain kind of makeup and styling, I think she could look early to mid-30s. But to me, she looks her age, no shade intended. I like that she?s not Botoxed, filler?d, plucked and tucked into oblivion. She?s always had a quirky, avant-garde style which she doesn?t exactly carry the same way after two decades in the spotlight, so that?s throwing things off too. And I believe she?s probably pretty fun, meaning she?s spent years partying, drinking, smoking and probably not taking great care of herself. I bring all of this up because Chloe has a new interview with W Magazine about beauty, aging, skincare and more. W Magazine says Chloe never ages, and Chloe takes the compliment and runs with it? right over a cliff. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
Why she looks ageless: ?I think it?s not having had a baby yet. Because I think the baby wear and tear and stress on your body is part of the reason why people say, ?Why do you still look so young?? I really think that that unfortunately ages women, especially when they have children in their 30?s, not in their 20?s. So I think, first and foremost, it?s that and genetics. And then I?m really into all the things they tell you to do, like moisturizing. I go to Dr. Colbert, who is this fancy dermatologist. I haven?t really gone the Botox route yet, but he does lasers and very expensive facials and stuff like that? I do lots of moisturizing, lots of water. I don?t do a lot of caffeine. But once I hit 40, I feel like things are starting to happen now that aren?t very exciting, and I?m starting to get a little scared.?
Whether she?ll get proactive about anti-aging: ?I don?t know that I?m more proactive. I mean, what do you do? Do you let it happen? Or do you start the preventive measures? It?s kind of terrifying. The under-the-eye thing, there really isn?t much to do for that. I also always slept on my side, and now I?m trying to train myself to sleep on my back for these lines [she gestures at her face] and these lines [neck and dcollet]. And with the pillow height, so it?s more with those kinds of things. I mean you?re in bed for what, seven or eight hours a night. That?s a long time! So I?m trying to shift things like that, which are difficult. But it?s hard after 40. Everyone says that once you hit 40. I mean not only that, it?s sort of different things, like the knees.
Her knees: ?I mean I was asking Dr. Colbert, ?What can you do? I heard Demi Moore had some sort of knee thing.? And he said, ?Oh, don?t be crazy Chlo.? But I?m kind of known for my legs. So it?s kind of a terrifying time, but instead of being scared I?m just trying to enjoy it. Because I have lots of friends in their 50s and they say, ?If you?re like that, it?s only going to get worse.? So just being confident in your 40s. It?s a big mental thing.?
Whether she would go back to having bangs: ?I have. I mean, I?ve had so many hairdos over the years?some good, some bad, some wild, some whatever, some recovering from parts. I don?t think I?m a bangs person. I have to say, I did the show Hit & Miss and I had black hair in it. Going back to blonde was like so hard. We did a bang and this Louise Brooks bob, and all of a sudden all of my outfits looked so great. I feel like when you have a real haircut?especially being a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl with my texture?I could wear almost anything and it would look cool. But I?m trying to go for something softer now.?
[From W Magazine]
She also goes on at length about perfume, why red carpets suck these days (the photographers are too close & high-def cameras), why sitting in hair & makeup is demoralizing and how she?s still trying to get the perfect ashy blonde. It was actually a really enjoyable (if superficial) read. As for Chloe?s opinion that pregnancy in one?s 30s is why women don?t age well? I always thought that the pregnancy and post-partum hormones made women look better, regardless of age? And I feel like Chloe isn?t aging any better or worse than her contemporaries who have had children. If anything, Chloe just has more time to obsess about her looks? and how she?s known for her legs? Is she really known for her legs?

| Chloe Sevigny describes being sexually harassed by various directors | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
Here are some photos of Chloe Sevigny in Cannes this week. She?s been promoting various projects, plus she?s just been attending premieres and having fun. On the red carpet, she?s been wearing all Chanel, and many of the pieces are things that she owns, not borrowed. I was going to write about Chloe earlier this week when I read her Guardian interview, but other stuff came up and I sort of forgot about it. Her Guardian piece was good ? go here. She talks about how long she?s been working, and how she?s grown to loathe ?auteur? directors and the preciousness that comes with working with self-described artistic geniuses. It seems like Chloe is feeling particularly gossipy these days, because in her sit-down with Variety, she ended up talking about all of the times directors sexually harassed her or said inappropriate, unprofessional things to her. Some assorted quotes:
Directors crossing the line: ?I?ve had the ?what are you doing after this?? conversation. I?ve also had the ?do you want to go shopping and try on some clothes and, like, I can buy you something in the dressing room? [conversation]. Just like crossing the line weirdness.? At another point, the actress remembered, a director told her, ??You should show your body off more. You shouldn?t wait until you?re as old as this certain actress who had just been naked in a film, you should be naked on screen now?.If you know my career, I?ve been naked in every movie.?
Other actresses might have had different reactions: ?If you?re young and impressionable and really want the part, it might be a tempting avenue, but I hope not??
Was it sexual harassment? ?I would consider it Hollywood. Was it sexual harassment? It?s such a fine line.?
Men vs women: ?When women on set become a little emotional, or impassioned even, they?re labeled as hysterical or crazy and have a hard time getting hired again. The double standard of the man being the wild, crazy, mad director is so embraced. We have to allow women to act out? and just be ourselves.?
She believes actresses are saddled with inferior material, and name-checks the flop ?The Huntsman?: ?It has those three great actresses and then the male lead [Chris Hemsworth], but I was just like they should have had better material for those ladies. Now that movie probably, I don?t think is performing well, and then will they make another movie with three great powerful women after that??
She still stands by The Brown Bunny: ?I?d probably still do it today. I believe in Vincent [Gallo] as an artist and I stand by the film. It was a subversive act. It was a risk. And I think it was a way of me staying outside the business in a weird way, but also doing what I want to do in the business.?
[From Page Six]
One could probably write a master?s thesis on the sexism around The Brown Bunny ? while Vincent Gallo?s career never really recovered, Sevingy is the one still getting questions about the film all of these years later. Gallo seemed like a pervert who used his ?art? to take advantage of women, and yet? Chloe has always maintained that she went into the project with her eyes wide open, and those were her choices as an actress. It?s legitimately complicated.
As for the rest of it? I think some of her stories do constitute sexual harassment, but I also understand what she means about the fine line. While there?s an inherent power inequality with a director hitting on a young actress, some of the time it might just be considered ?flirtation? or genuine interest/attraction by both parties, and it’s a mutual choice. But the whole “I’ll buy you clothes” thing… gross.

She never seems to go out of style, and Chloe Sevigny cleans up quite nicely for the Spring/Summer 2016 campaign from Jimmy Choo.
The ?Big Love? star works the camera in a variety of pumps, platform wedges and sneakers against the backdrop of retro hotel rooms, bars and trucks.
As for her favorite shoe from the shoot, Chloe gushes, ?I loved the white LUC pump with the ankle strap and the red vinyl at the toe cleavage. These shoes would be great with jeans or a sexy dress. They reminded me of white pumps I?d wear in the 90s, with everything. I love a white shoe, it?s a bold statement.?

| Chloe Sevigny gets why people are 'afraid of vaccinations. There are unknowns' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Chloe Sevigny has a new interview to promote American Horror Story: Hotel, and she looked fantastic in these premiere photos. Her bod never stops. Chloe plays a vampire on the show, and she’s become friends with Lady Gaga as they’ve bonded on the set. That’s not too surprising. Both women fancy themselves artistes, and both are correct in a way. Chloe sat down with Vulture to talk about her favorite vampire movies and her thoughts on the anti-vaccination crowd. She dislikes Twilight but loves classic vampire movies like Nosferatu (good call), and she thinks television is too violent nowadays:
On tv: “The Walking Dead has gotten so violent! There’s more violence this year than ever before. I watched the one the other night with the home invasion before going to bed, and I couldn’t sleep that night. That’s the first time that’s happened. The idea that someone’s behind the door, that’s what’s terrifying. Home invasion and assault are the most terrifying things in the entire universe.”
Her musings on anti-vax stances: “Because Alex shares her ‘virus’ to try to save the boy with measles, now the vampire virus has spread like wildfire among all these children. You could read all these things into it about the anti-vaccination movement, but there’s also the sense that this is just the beginning. The Countess does not want her children creating more children … But viruses and vaccines, that’s such a big thing. Ryan has two young kids, and it’s such an issue right now. It’s topical, and he likes to do that as well. I don’t have children, so I haven’t really had to face that yet. I can kind of see it from both angles, especially with all the autism now being so prevalent. I could see people being afraid of vaccinations. There are many unknowns.”
Her thoughts on the occult: “I saw The Exorcist when I was quite young, like when I was 10 or something. Too young to see it. And I went to my priest and I said, ‘I saw this movie, and I’m so terrified.’ And he said, ‘I’ve sat in on exorcisms, and if you ever play Ouija, or practice witchcraft, you’re inviting the devil into your soul.’ So I never did for most of my adult life. I had an experience when I was in eighth or ninth grade, and I looked at a book about witchcraft and had a strange experience with a cat who was sleeping in the bedroom at that time. The cat … became active, and frightened me. So I put that book down and never read about witchcraft again. But I have played Ouija a few times. I hope I’m not inviting the devil into my soul!”
[From Vulture]
Chloe’s thoughts on the anti-vaccination crowd will rile people up no matter what she says. Both sides are passionate about their beliefs, so I won’t voice my opinion. Her thoughts on the violence of television are interesting though, especially since American Horror Story has its share of blood and shocking mayhem. Chloe can’t really distance herself from her job, but I find it funny that she’s commenting like violence on tv is shocking. This is nothing new. Producers are simply upping the ante to create buzz.
